[Q] Note 4 lollipop downgrade/rollback - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So woke up yesterday to an update. Lollipop. Thought why not. After upgrade my android looks like an iOS. Yuk. Vile. Is there any way to shift the horrible whiteness. Can I roll back my device without rooting or voiding my warranty. Surely there is a setting or something. My battery seems to last half as long now too. If I wanted an iOS I'd of bought one. Fact is iOS is ****e hence why I came from apple to a note 2 to a note 4. What were android/Google thinking.
Thanks

You can download the 4.4.4 firmware from sammobile and flash it via odin. I'm not sure if that will trip Knox or void your warranty (it shouldn't though if you're not modifying recovery, kernel, or rooting).
Flashing full, official firmware should be fine (although I'd probably document my steps with pics and/or video- that way of there's any question about it if you bed to file a claim, you can show them what you did to go back to kitkat and they have proof you did it in a legit way). I personally have never destroyed my warranty by rolling back on official firmware, but I root my devices the day I get them so... but yeah that's the best, most official way to roll back

[Q] Samsung firmware upgrade policy annoys thousands

coming from an iphone 4s which was frequently upgraded worldwide
Why doesn't Samsung do this on its unlocked phones its not carrier depended?
Very annoying
The only option void the warranty truely unacceptable
I wouldn't say it annoys thousands.
Those "thousands" to begin with, must be aware that there is a newer version of firmware available.
To be aware, you must have visited a place like this at some point. Since you visited this site, you should be able to see at least a sticky thread in the development section called "N7000 All stock ROMs + install + Root guide All at 1 place".
What does that mean you ask? It means that if your country's latest firmware is let's say KK5 (just like my case), you could easily flash back to a stock KK5 firmware after flashing LA4, for warranty purposes. Doing so does NOT void your warranty, since those are stock official roms. Rooting voids your warranty, just like jailbreak.
If you can't be bothered to all that, just wait. Samsung rolls the update to 1 country at a time, for stability and testing purposes. Currently Germany gets the updates first. Samsung rolls the update there and checks for bug reports from consumers. If all is good, another country gets it. If not, Samsung works out the bugs, and pushes the update with any improvements they developed to a new country as well as the first one. It wouldn't be nice to have a nasty bug caused by an update in all the phones.
Can't blame you for not knowing that, but don't blame a different update policy only because you didn't search on how to work around it
Update official firmware via odin no issue i have uk unlocked, couldnt change the csc and was stuck with no la4
Solution download dbt la4 version and flash with odin. . 4 mins later fast unlaggy phone latest firmware AND I can now change my csc i didnt do anything with the csc and the upgrade shows me all cscs now!
Do it its worth it

First of all, it seems obvious to me that you are trolling. Seriously? Knock it off...
Secondly, to answer your question, Samsung takes whatever time it needs with its firmware updates in order to make sure everything works properly, including region specific things like RTL. It's a QA thing.
Thirdly, Samsung has a LOT more devices, with different hardware, to keep up with as far as updates are concerned.
Fourthly, to think that voiding your warranty is your only option as far as updating is concerned, is very ignorant; you obviously don't know what you're doing. I'm not going to teach you either, because you have no excuse for not learning on your own; it's easy.
Finally, you say that thousands are annoyed? Well, considering that Samsung pushed out 35 million phones last quarter alone, a couple thousand is a small percentage of people compared to an overwhelming several million.
The 4s has technically had 1 update since its release. 5.0.0 was on the phone when it released and then 5.0.1 was done to fix battery issues (which it actually made worse for a lot of users) The international note was released kind of around the same time but has had multiple released. Your argument is completely invalid and you are indeed a troll.
Thousands where? Must be you
Yes, apple does a GLOBAL push, but don't forget, all their devices had battery issues, heating issues, and a TON of bugs. So what would you REALLY rather have? A small controlled group of people with bugs? Or EVERYONE having bugs? I think Samsung is more intelligent in that sense. I'd rather have one country pissed off at me than the whole world saying "HEY! ALL OUR DEVICES SUCK NOW!" But of course, that NEVER happens because Apple NEVER has bugs or issues, right? hahahahaha.
I like the way Samsung does it now Incremental pushes if you can wait, otherwise, flash it, it's all the same. They give you that freedom.
Both of your illustrious 2 posts are both negative. Do the board, Samsung, and Android a favor. Go back to in line duck walking with Apple.
Convert Iphone3g,3gs,i4 then Gal Note. No comparison.
When you do not read, update, mod and tailor your fully customizable Android to your liking you will never be happy.
Go back to the spoon feeding from Apple, you and a few others will be better off. Or before you post anything moronic, do some more reading, and maybe modding, if its not above your realm.
Please note that this is just my view for your consideration.
If the previous post is correct that means Samsung chose one or two countries to be beta testers without asking them and not telling there will be bugs etc.
Surely a better way like every.other it company would be to offer beta versions for download and feedback.
That would offer a win win solution as power users can mess around with the new features and give feedback.
Just my thoughts as I don't really want tp root my new phone but yet I have no idea when I will get the update. I wonder will they be doing the same with ics as that's due in approx 7 weeks

You don't need to root to update your device. All you need is Odin which requires no root. I just think you need to read and educate yourself more. First stop comparing what apple and Samsung do and things will be a lot easier.

I think for ICS release they will do worldwide and just block your IMEI from getting it
(now if this isn't a really funny troll, none is)
doesn't apple have testers who run the latest software to test for bugs. and don't those people pay for that service.

[Q] KitKat?

I got my VN3 a month or so back and decided to wait on rooting until KitKat was released, allegedly in march. I got tired of waiting and went ahead and rooted, using Kingo 1.1.5.xx (MJE).
I imagine that KitKat is still forthcoming for this phone(?). I've installed a few root apps (Titanium, Mobile Odin, etc.).
Questions:
1. If and when KK is available for the VN3, will I need to unroot the phone?
2. What method should I use...Kingo, Odin?
3. Should I take it easy on how many root apps I install until I know if I'll need to unroot?
4. Will it be worthwhile (or even viable) to install KK, or will most rooted users stay with 4.3?
Thanks,
Sam
i wouldn't worry about that. Our Note 3s will be old news by the time verizon gets around to kitkat. They are bust pushing the new Galaxy S5 right now. But don't despair...Kitkat isn't an exciting leap into the future. I had an AOSP (or AOKP?) on my LG G2, and in the state it was in, I ended up going back to, and being deliriously happy, with 4.3. After running 4.4 with all its issues, when I went back to 4.3 there wasn't a single 4.4 feature I missed.

Sorry I somehow missed this. I have to agree. I actually kept GB 2.3 (build EL26 & 29) on my S2. Bumping it up a time or two for various updates, but always Odin'ed back to EL.
The fact that Vzw was alleged to release it in March prompted me to wait and see if I wanted it. But I'm rooted now and will be fine where I'm at. Absolutely fine, in fact.
One irritation with my S2, however, was that I kept having to deal with the update nag.

Unless your like a lot of people with multiple modern samsung devices that enjoy not having many cool features until kit kat. My Verizon N3 can't get kit kat soon enough. My gear fit and tab pro are being held back on functionalities waiting for my Note!

Having had a Moto X that was destroyed by 4.4 (I left it for the Note 3 before it took Verizon years to get it 4.4.2) and a Nexus 7 that got 4.4, and quickly 4.4.2 after that ----- I can live with 4.3. I agree with the comments that there really isn't anything must have about 4.4. On my Moto X - 4.4 destroyed battery life. My Nexus 7 2013 got much better battery life with 4.3 than it gets with 4.4.2 with greenify.
And yes, I got all caught up in the 4.4 KitKat hype, bought the bars, and believed every word of the "redesigned, less footprint, more battery life" hype that never came true. lol.
Edit: To answer OP's question: The only way I'm considering 4.4 on my Note 3 is if one of the Rom devs here offer it - more specifically CleanRom. Otherwise, happily running 4.3 till I can afford the Note 4. lol.
i didnt care at all UNTIL i got a Tab Pro and Gear Fit that were designed to work with Kit Kat. i have ran into many things that requires Kit Kat on my N3 like the latest S Health for Fit to work fully or Sync 3.0 for sharing files from N3. there were a few more as well.
so to call it useless depends on what you may need it for as i could really use it now.
As Fletch33 states, some people have a need for KitKat. As for me, having stayed with GB for so long, JB 4.3 is quite the upgrade (as is the N3). JB on my S2 just didn't cut it. I can live without KK as long as I have to, but really, it's all academic at this point, since Verizon has passed their timeline of 'sometime in March'. And from what I'm hearing, it may take quite some time to see it happen.
That being the case (and with the seemingly prevailing opinion re:KitKat), I'll just go ahead and setup my now rooted VN3 as I need it to be and reject the KK update offers.
I havent seen a vzw note 3 kitkat yet. Even the devs seem to be waiting for big red. Root and safestrap are great but a locked bootloader has us hamstrung WRT kit-kat.

You happen to know if Verizon even has a KitKat build they are testing for the Note 3? I just want it for certain apps that require 4.4, plus it's nice to have a OS with the latest API levels.
A coworker of mine is testing it on vzw but there have been issues with, you guessed it, signal strength, so this is why we haven't seen an update yet. Shouldn't be too long as she told me that is the only issue being reported

i had the galaxy nexus on vzw before the note 3 and they skipped an update and on the next version release vzw would update the nexus. i'm hoping the note 3 is the same. at this point i'd rather wait for the next release and skip kitkat.

Tab Pro 10.1 update to Kitkat 4.4.4 and Lollipop

I have the Tab Pro 4 10.1, Tab 3 7" and the Nexus 7 2012. My Nexus 7 2012 had gone through all the updates to Lollipop but none of my Samsung devices have any updates for months while the Nexus 7 the oldest of all the three have all these updates that just keeps on coming. I'm getting frustrated with Samsung because until now my Samsung tablets are stuck at 4.4.2. If Samsung can release a new phone/tablet every 3 months with the latest OS then why can't they update the OS of the older ones at the same rate? Why do we ever bother reading the news about Android's latest Lollipop if we can't even get them on time? All I see is - it's coming, yeah right! What kind of software developers or engineers they have in there? Maybe they only have one guy working on it that's why it's taking so long or never at all. With all that money that they have, they can't even do this simple things. I guess that's why they couldn't beat Apple at their own game. Anyway, I'm out. Thanks for reading!

Just what do you see on Lollipop that makes you want it so bad.
I have purposely turned off OS updates on my N7 as don't want it. The device has not enough power to operate more and more memory intensive OS.
I let my N4 get updated and now regret it. Had no problems prior but now the battery drains overnight if left on standby. I used to let it go for several days before charging now I have to ensure it is plugged in and recharged nightly. This battery drain is being experienced by others. I don't want to have to do a complete factory reset and load everything again which is what some people recommend when doing these updates. Lollipop to me offers nothing that I want and it removed the ability to quickly close all apps which now must be done individually a pain. That plus the chance of other problems makes me want to leave my tab as is.
Google makes the Nexus line.
Google makes Android.
It's to be expected that a Nexus gets the Android updates first.
I'm under the impression the TabPros are getting Lollipop in Jan/Feb sometime with the rest of the year old devices, is that way out to lunch? If they aren't, I will be jumping to CM12 way sooner than later!

Just for laughs I backed everything up and loaded touchwiz back onto it cause its been awhile, i put cm11 on it like a week after I got it. Anyways, I loaded touchwiz back onto it and I couldn't believe how bad it sucked, and I had it debloated, rooted and finevtuned! My advicemis... Screw stock LP and just upgrade to cm12

Whats so good about lollipop..... wellllll, on my phone after lollipop update I went from a 32k antutu to a 48k antutu, after lollipop im getting noticeably better performance in browsing and gaming, after lollipop im getting MUCH better battery life, after lollipop my phone runs like I want it to. As for being more memory intensive better look again. In its initial release lollipop had a memory leak, that was fixed so now it is easier on your device than kitkat. As for the close all in recent tasks which has been renamed...its still there. As always brand specific features will overwrite stock features though.
So in short why would someone want lollipop? It is simply better in almost every way. One of the few updates I have thought worthy of taking.

Dude, yes. This a hundred times. I was going to return this stupid tablet (10.1) because the TW ROM is so horrifically bad and sluggish. With CM12 it flies.
Yup, it'll either be out this year, next year, or the year after that. Trust me. Don't worry about it. Keep buying Samsung tablets, they're great.
I see a thread just like this one on every single device I've ever owned. A spoiled baby crying that they don't get updates right away. If you want updates so fast why would you get anything but Nexus? Go install CM12 & be happy.

lol seriously? 4.4.2 is just so out of date, it makes sense everyone is complaining.
not to mention, there's so many dumb bugs on the official GTP 8.4 firmware that it's pretty obvious this model is an "afterthought" for samsung
i actually don't expect ANY further updates for this model, it's pretty clear that when a company replaces a product with a newer product just 4 months after the product comes out (Tab S) they consider the first product a failure and don't care about it anymore

It is not that out of date cmon man. If/when 5.0 drops you will see a new thread dedicated to how bad it is on the tablet & asking how to go back to kitkat. If you want loli so bad why not play with cm12? If updates are such a priority to you why did you get this device? It has been like this for pretty much every non nexus device. Some get updates pretty quick, but most have to wait months.

in CM12 for tab pro 10.1 if you set an unlock pattern. does it appear on the first screen after pushing power button(like stock) or do you have to swipe for it to appear? (which means additional screen/step before unlock)

Are you really happy with that Lollipop on your Nexus 7 (2012)? I also own a Nexus 7 (2012) which became useless after Lollipop update.
Guys, go and visit the Nexus 7 sub-forum here and see how frustrated are those people after they got Lollipop.
I am really happy with my Samsung's (especially with 8.4), I wouldn't trade my milliseconds lag for a 30 seconds Lollipop lag and I will wait some good time when the update will become available.

Post all information about Note PRO getting or not Android 6.0 Marshmallow here!

Hi everyone! I created this thread to collect any info about getting a Marshmallow update on our beloved Note PRO.
Did Sammy say anything about it?
Greetings!
Boy that would be nice for it to be updated to 6.x but I'm not holding my breath. I read an article that said our tablets are considered old and outdated as the came out Feb 2014... Nice.
FYI just updated Nexus 7 to 6.0 and it's from 2013.

Considering the tablet is less than two years old, and Samsung has a pretty good track record of providing OS updates during the first 2 years, I'd say chances are good. But, it'll probably be next fall when the "N" release is ready to drop. haha
With that said, the one factor that I think works against the Note Pro is the fact that it probably didn't sell very many units. It was incredibly expensive, and most people simply didn't want a tablet that big.
Time will tell.
I doubt it we haven't even got lollipop yet so the chance of marshmallow is 0%

I'm not sure what you mean, I'm on 5.0.2 right now, which is lollipop. The only feature I care about on Android M is Doze. My tablet drain about 20% overnight or when not in use for a day and I feel like Doze can bring that down to 5% or less so it's comparable to Ipad's standby time. I've tried Greenify and other similar "sleep" applications and they end up not saving any battery.
Idk our hardware is quite similer to Note3 hardware which wont get M !!
Just dont get your hopes so high guys since this company wont listen or even care about us loyal customers !
Trust me i've been in a situation like this before with my Note2.
Anyway i don't use my tablet as a social media device as they are the most reason to drain battery so quickly especially viber also turn off location completly.
So i really dont care about google so called doze or whatever sorcery they keep throwing at us as some marketing s**t !!!

Still on 4.4.2 here in the UK so no we still havnt recieved lollipop yet and 2 weeks ago Andriod L was realesed a year ago most google devices are using marshmallow now If you take Samsungs time scale as a factor google will have upgraded all there machines to 8.0 by the time we would recieve 6.0, so like I said I doubt very much they will upgrade an old tablet that didn't sell well to Marshmallow. If by some miracle they do, it will be 2 years out of date so again no real point to.
I've been researching about an update for my Verizon p905v for several days now because I switched to T-Mobile a few months ago and they don't sell this tablet so I didn't trade it in. I just added it to my account and put T-Mobile's sum card in it but the tablet won't recognize the sun card and still thinks it's a Verizon tablet, but that's off topic, just said that to explain why I couldn't update through the settings. Anyway, through Kies I was able to update to 5.1.1 a week or two ago. I read somewhere why researching this that the p905v WILL be getting the 6.0 update! It listed a few Samsung devices and the Note Pro 12.2 was the last one on the list to be getting it. I'll try to find where I read that and post a link here if I can find it again. FYI, you can't judge the update or timeline by comparing to any Nexus device, that site also said all Nexus devices will get the update first since they are Google devices. Hope this helps answer some questions, again I'll post a link to that site if I can find it.

Verizon is CDMA and TMobile is GSM. The two are not compatible. It will not work unless the tablet has both radios. Not sure if the note PRO has a GSM radio. If it does, then you will need to turn the radio on. Probably by loading a custom ROM.

Well, I got the OTA update to Lollipop (5.0) two weeks ago. I am in Poland.
So IF we'll get the 6.0, it will be probably muuuch later than anyone else. My Nexus 6 hasn't got it yet.

if you check firmwares and countries , you will see that the 100% samsung is not updated while the "sponsorshiped" one is updated...
i discovered that with a generic 4g sm-p905 that is "registered" south-africa-unlocked...
Maybe some people will gonna cook M rom as custom rom. Anyway, i beleive, not many people know what is new in new version of apps, iOS, they just want be one step back. "New version of .........." they click next, next, like a secreteary in offce with computer.
i think you mean a word i created , in french , that is "MesFessesAussi" , translatable by " My A$$ Too" . that sounds like M$Office and targets those dumb&lazy Girls...cool joke ;']
the mobile is my first one and mostly for GPS , but i never take again any G8gle-Android or samsung product .
this is pure **** for os and drivers updates , plus warranty . samsung being the biggest mother****er i have ever seen , it forces users to buy its products with its os where no drivers can be added ...and all is using free code....
G8gle being not "aware" of the way its "os" is used and delivered to customers...sucks as well as the chinese or even more...[ i understand why chromeos had no success...]
they are BANKSTER$ , turning something well working and free into a private and :silly: thingies..
to sum it : android by samsung is like posting a reply here with "g8gle chrome" : IMPOSSIBLE
when it come to check the "Robotologie"...image Verification pop-up not showing....Verification expired...
android - g8gle$a$$ung too : bunch of has-been
posted with FireFox...the one that made browsing the web free : POSSIBLE...
beside that : anyone uses the addblock-browser made for android$ ?
addblock , a nice extention that makes browsing " free of g8gle"$ add$ "....

Boy that would be nice for it to be updated to 6.x but I'm not holding my breath. I read an article that said our tablets are considered old and outdated as the came out Feb 2014... Nice.
FYI just updated Nexus 7 to 6.0 and it's from 2013.

I just bought the galaxy note pro 12.2, barely used for a good price. Even thought it's old, it should do what I need. I would hope to get at least 3 years out of it and the update to marshmallow would be nice. This is my first samsung tablet. I had previous iPad. Is it not likely Samsung will update this tablet? What's the big difference between lollipop and marshmallow anyway? Maybe it won't really matter.
Everyone tells me I should buy the iPad pro instead because of newer tech.
I think that the only way we will get Marshmallow for this tablet is if a dev cooks it up for us. I'm also wondering why there is no news of a new version of this table (or any Note tablet) in the works. I'm wondering if Samsung has abandoned the Note series of tablets. If they have that would be a shame. I use an iPhone, but the handwriting and multi-screen are of importance to me (so no change to an iPad).

I too am wondering why there isn't news of a new tablet. I was in the market for one, and didn't want another iPad. I have an iMac as my computer, but don't like apples phones so have galaxy note 3 and thought my iPad was limited in function so wanted a galaxy tab. I had to buy used. I know with CES being around the corner, if there is something in the works, they should announce it then. But I couldn't wait. I hope to at least get 2 years out of the note pro.
if nothing else, maybe someone will make a cyanogenmod 13 rom for it. that would be really nice.
Techradar marshmellow
"Android Marshmallow update: when can I get it?"
They mention the note pro.
I think it is a good idea for Samsung to do this asap as the market for large screen stylus powered devices is growing quickly with the iPad pro and tablet 4. The already with the note pro have a foothold device in that sector so they can launch off the back of it. Keeping the note pro relevant is important for now.
BTW, I've used both the iPad pro and windows 4 tab at work and still prefer the Note pro 12.2 even though it is a year old and less powerful. At the price point of the Note pro it is a fantastic device.

To root, or not to root? - WAS-LX2

Hey.
First of all, I apologized for such a newbie question because I never root any phone before (been interested to do so but scared if spoilt the phone).
Second thing is, i have sign up for the EMUI 8.0 FUT project but haven't got any reply yet .
I'm using WAS-LX2 and out of warranty recently.
So....
Is it advisable to root the device? I mean how does it improve if compare to stock. Is it stable enough?
Can I still do the beta EMUI if I root it?
Or its better if I wait up for the beta oreo to ends then only root it?
Thanks in advance.
Cheers!
How the hell do you have a phone out of warranty after ~1 year? As far as rooting goes, no OTA updates, in any shape, way or form, and if you do the wrong things, you can even brick your device. So, as far as i am concerned, root, but don't come back to complain after you've bricked it.

Some countries have one year warranties as standard. Not many companies go beyond the minimum unless you pay for it (eg extended warranty service).
