Looking for a root for the Cricket branded Galaxy Grand Prime (SM-G530AZ). Although all the root methods I have found pertaining to the Grand Prime say they are compatible with the SM-G530H and all it's variants, I can't get it to work. Every time I try flashing through ODIN, I get a failed message, and the phone freezes. Battery pull is the only way to reset it.
Android Version 4.4.4
Baseband Version: G530AZTUU1AOC1
Build Number: KTU84P.G530AZTUU1AOC1
I have seen one member on previous Grand Prime root threads that claims to have had success with the Cricket version. If anyone has any insight, or has had any luck, please let me know.

What is the failed message that you're getting?
Does the G530AZ variant have Custom recovery? if it has you can just flash supersu zip thru cwm or twrp. I have G530H it works for me.

root found for g530az cricket
Hi im a new user in this forum and i like to help providing information that others are trying to get...good news if u havent already rooted ur cricket g530az there is an app called kingroot search it on google that app have an official site go to it and download android version install it and run it
I tell u this because i have the same phone and same model i have been searching
For like a week or so and found it
Hope u enjoy it
UPDATE - SUCCESSFULLY ROOTED SM-G530AZ!
Please read this post carefully if you wish to root your SM-G530AZ Cricket branded Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime phone. The file linked in the original post of this thread does NOT work with this particular model number!
Note: I cannot post links yet since I have not yet hit 10 posts (this is some kind of anti-spam measure I assume) so the link to the file I mention is (please fix the URL by removing spacing; the URL has no spaces in it): http : // download1031 . mediafire . com/1gu77v6t67sg/8mn3f1ppmkxk94b/SM-G530H-4.4.4.zip
Anyway, there was no answer to my question, as I'm impatient and cannot wait longer than a day, so I took the plunge and decided to try the root flash file listed here. The "1_cfroot_sm-g530h_mohan.tar.md5" provided in this thread did NOT work. Odin reported the following:
Upon power-cycling my phone by way of battery removal and insertion I found that the device would not boot. Thankfully, prior to trying this, I had done quite a bit of searching and remembered an alternate root image for the Grand Prime G530H called "SM-G530H-4.4.4.zip". It is available at (see link in NOTE above; you can also find it by Googling it I believe). At this point I figured it could not hurt anymore to try another image so I launched the device back into Odin mode and used the CF-Auto-Root.tar file included in the ZIP file.
I stopped yelling and screaming in anger because -- it worked! After updating the firmware Odin then restarted the phone three times. During the restarts, the pane in Odin's window above the "ID:COM" pane was grey and was labeled "RESET". After the third reboot the phone launched into Android. I then went into the Applications window on the phone and found "SuperSU". The phone was indeed rooted! Shortly after I launched SuperSU, the "RESET" label in Odin turned from grey to green and changed to "PASS!". I unplugged and plugged back in my phone so that I could use the Android SDK "adb" tool in Mac OS X (I ran Odin 3 from a Windows 7 virtual machine in VMWare Fusion) and launch a shell on the phone. To confirm all was well with my root access I typed "su" in the shell, confirmed authorization for the process when SuperSU prompted me, and there I was -- root!
And, for completeness, here is the Odin v3 output of my successful flash using CF-Auto-Root.tar located in SM-G530H-4.4.4.zip:
In summary:
The particular SM-G530H root firmware file linked by the OP in this thread will NOT work with a Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime SM-G530AZ model phone ("Cricket" wireless company branded). Instead, use the CF-Auto-Root.tar located in the SM-G530H-4.4.4.zip located at (see link in NOTE at top of this post).
Anyway, thank you for the post OP, and to whomever created both the firmware images (even though the first one failed on me!) for all the hard work you put in. You are the lifeblood of this community!

Hi, there.
My phone is failing the root also, I'm not able to get into my phone at all.
I will get an triangle with a message saying it failed and I need to contact my phone provider to operate my phone. I went to the CRICKET store yesterday, theygave me a new SIM card but it still won't work. Currently, my phone say it's downloading and don't turn off target. It been like this for some hours. It's really frustrating, it wouldn't happen if I didn't click on software update. Can anyone help me or doIneed a new phone?

You're good. Just sounds like you are stuck in download mode. Try pulling your battery out. If that doesn't work, do a battery pull, and instead of powering up normally, press Volume Up, Home, and Power at the same time. This should allow you to do a factory reset.
If that still doesn't work, you're looking at flashing stock firmware through Odin. Very simple if you can follow instructions. There are many guides on this site that walk you through using Odin.

SM-G530AZ fix
I had the same problem with galaxy sm-g530az.
Put the phone into recovery mode.
Connect the phone to computer usb
Update phone with adb at the same time as you open Samsung kies.
If both are done at the same time Samsung kies will get a huge update. After it is done you should have Samsung kies lite. Use the firmware upgrade and initialisation process. It might still tell you it can't recognize the phone the first time or two. Just keep trying a couple times it will recognize the phone and complete the process.
Good luck

Hi All,
Firstly SORRY for posting here. This should be in the dev thread, but I have no rights there.
I am unable to post to post in the developer thread (being newly registered) and I am hoping Chainfire can provide a root for the Galaxy Note 4 SM-N9100 China model. He has requested that the recovery.img file from the phone model's stock ROM be attached. He has already provided the root for a few other files but I see in another post, he didn't do it for this one because he couldn't download the firmware easily. I have downloaded the stock firmware and extracted the needed file.
If someone with dev posting rights can help post the attached file to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1980683&page=55
I would be super super appreciative :fingers-crossed:
Many thanks.
For thanks in advance to Chainfire, I have just made a donation.....
.... now praying.... can't use my apps purchased on Google Play on this phone without the root.
http://download.chainfire.eu/564/CF-Root1/CF-Auto-Root-trltechn-trlteduoszc-smn9100.zip
thanks chainfire!
tried it on mine but it didn't work. had a flash write failure...
Maybe Locked Bootloader
First, big thanks to Chainfire for the super fast action!!
But yeah, I've got the same issue. The recovery.img was from sammobile for n9100, so I don't think that is the problem.
I am suspecting it is a locked bootloader. Unfortunately I'm not at the moment able to detect this as while adb is working fine, fastboot is not recognizing the device. If anyone else knows how to easily check if the bootloader is locked (and has a good way to unlock without using fastboot), everything would be great.
Fastboot not supported for n9100
Ok tried fastboot on a different PC. Doesn't work for n9100 either. Can't detect devices in bootloader mode. Adb is ok. So likely not usb issue, must be simply not available on n9100 and from searching about seems Samsung likely doesn't support fastboot for many devices.
Troubleshooting
After further research, not too sure about the bootloader being the issue. Actually the SM-N9100 is not carrier branded or locked that I could tell. If the other models' roots work, then it makes no sense for this to be the issue here.
Chainfire, I see you posted that you may replace the ROOT you made for this model. If it helps in troubleshooting, here is what happened.
1 - Downloaded the stock firmware from here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=36308
2 - Posted to you the recovery.img file from the ROM - not sure if that was the one you used. But after soft bricking my device by trying the root, I can confirm that I could reflash with the stock firmware and all went well.
3 - When trying the root, it starts no problem, but then there is a Write Fail error in Odin. If needed, I can repeat the process to provide all text and screenshots. There was no Red Android icon. The bootloader screen has some failure message and the Android icon remained green.
4 - Phone would not restart stating there was a firmware issue and that I should perform a recovery in Kies.
5 - I did not perform a recovery in Kies, but rather I reflashed (using Odin) the stock firmware. This worked ok.... but of course, I still have no root. Since the reflash worked, then I can only assume the recovery.img file is fine for my SM-N9100
I have used your Autoroot in the past for my Note 2 N7100 model, and it worked with absolutely no issue whatsoever. So I don't think the problem is that I am not following the Odin settings correctly or that I have some USB issue.
Thanks.
Further Details
I've added a screenshot of the Odin failure.
BTW, I noticed someone posted a rooting video in YouTube with this CF AutoRoot for N9100
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXpPSjlzrok
Funny the video stops right before the failure and you don't see the "PASS" result in Odin!
So I don't know if anyone has been successful with this root at all!

Hi
I rooted my SAMSUNG GT-N9100 with Cf-Auto root via Odin everything was ok process was passed and phone took a restart i checked the apps there was superSU but when i opened it, it just waiting and happened nothing. since you buy N9100, so i consider u can read a few chinese (if not u can use google translate to help u)
i've seen in chinese forums they can root N9100 without problems, so i give u a few links to help
here is the step by step for root :

in here it said u need to flash cwm first..this is the link for recovery

and then after that u need to put supersu.zip to ur sd card, so this is the link for the supersu.zip

hope this can help root ur device
or actually u can download root apps in chinese, there are a few root apps that u can use for root the phone

Q&A for [Guide][Root] Root Samsung Galaxy Core Prime G360H
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer.
Before posting, please use the forum search and read through the discussion thread for [Guide][Root] Root Samsung Galaxy Core Prime G360H. If you can't find an answer, post it here, being sure to give as much information as possible (firmware version, steps to reproduce, logcat if available) so that you can get help.
Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
Rooting SM-G360H
Thank you very much for the SM-G360H guide.
This is my experience:
I downloaded #1 Odin v3.09 and #2 Root Kernal. After doing everything in the video, the Odin program showed Pass, but at this stage I wasn't rooted. I downloaded #3 iRoot (the .exe for Windows not the apk) and ran that, and I was then rooted (eg, I could use Titanium Backup). Great, Thank you.
Issues:
1. When rebooting my phone, on the screen that shows Samsumg Galaxy Core Prime during reboot, I have a red exclamation mark (!) in the top left corner. This disappears as the boot process continues. Can you tell me what this is... is it an indication that the phone is rooted? There are many threads on how to get rid of it as well as a red triangle, but is it necessary?
2. As mentioned above I downloaded 3 programs. I'm not sure which one caused an additional program to be installed which took over my browser preferences (IE and Firefox), which I could not eliminate via normal program removal. The home page changed to ww,omniboxes, com and seemed to be stuck somewhere in the registry. I had to revert to a previous image of my Windows OS. So watch out for this.
Suggestion:
May be you could include links to the best place to download the 3 files/programs in order to avoid virus/registry entries on PC.
Do you know if there is a CWM or TWRP for our SM-G360H phone?
Thanks.
the red warning mark shows that your system and device has been modified....
means warrany is void ..
but you can flash stock rom via odin and warning mark will be gone.....
and ur phone will be unrooted......
cwm
kindly make cwm
It worked for me .
but a little red exclamation mark appear when I turn on the phone .
Anyway , it seems Universal unroot doesn't work to unroot this device
rooting sm g360h duos
why is step 2 and 3 necessary?
do i need to uninstall the extra's that are installed on the phone by iroot? (as mentioned in other videos? see: How to Root any Android Device in less than 5 minutes with IROOT [HD] on youtube)
are there any risks on leaving those files installed?
thanks in advance!

Hey do you know if that works on G360F too? I'm guessing it would but since im kinda new to the whole rooting the phone thing i'd be far less concerned if i could get the opinion from someone who has actually done it before
no it will not work for sm g360f.

samsung galaxy core prime sm-g360t1
Hi ! Have been a student of xda dev a long time. New to this though, thanks for all your previous help. I just bought the new Metro Samsung Galaxy Core Prime sm-g360t1 running lollipop 5.1.1. The phone comes with options to unlock bootloader and another to jailbreak the phone from metro. This is something I have not seen before, have you? I still can not find a root method or app that will work, any help there?
OK so I went around the web and to see if there were rom(s) available for Samsung galaxy core prime. I couldn't find anything! :crying: I bought this phone so i could escape the whole 'no rom(s) for my device' problem. I mean its a samsung phone. How can a samusung phone not have custom roms. I couldn't even find its stock. The only thing i could find close was a lollipop update but that wasn't even there for my model. So i request many(or all!) rom makers to please start making roms for this model or its other versions. I mean i bought a samsung to escape the whole stock shindig and now this. If you find or make(or decide to make) a rom for this phone please tell us. If possible please reach out to top developers as well such as Cyanogen or omni or others! PLEASE make this happen

Root for Core Prime
Hello all,
Were you guys able to find root access to the Galaxy Core Prime? If not, find the kingoroot apk and download and run. You dont need a pc to do so. If youre looking for a custom recovery i suggest TWRP. They have a build for the phone. Let me know if you have any other questions. I am currently running lollipop on a friends phone with it as I told her she needed root and of course she ended up soft bricking it....which is no big deal which is why i have this phone temporarily.. Im searching for an AOSP rom now. if i find one other than my lollipop upgrade ill report back.

5. Open KingoRoot on your PC and connect your phone. When a pop-up appears check Always allow box and select Grant.
6. If Kingo cannot apply ROOT by Safe method, it will prompt you. If you don't want to mess with warranty, please discontinue. Otherwise, continue to ROOT.
7. If rooting was successful, there will be a SuperUser app installed. Verify ROOT by Rootchecker from Playstore.
8. You can uninstall the Kingo App (not the SuperUser app).
P.S.
1. If you are running Jellybean , you may be able to get ROOT access without tripping the KNOX counter (Warranty Intact).
2. Do not flash any SU binary update other than from inside of kingo SuperUser app, as it will DEFINITELY void your warranty.
3. You can also try the KingoRoot phone app without a PC.

have you been able to do anything with it? I have the same phone but is stuck on the cricket screen, i made the mistake of editing the build.prop and cant seem to be able to sideload or use odin to replace it... samsung wants me to ship it to them.....not sure what to do yet.
Flash firmware?
Does it go into Download Mode? If so flash stock firmware, link available in thread by Shiny Side or Bogarrty. Worked great for me. You will have to re-root, re-TWRP, ECT. There are step by step instructions too.
Thanks agai to Shinyside and bogarrty for their excellent work.

Sorry, I really not worth a thing before coffee! The firmware in thread is for sm g360t1. Firmware is available from Samsung tho.
TWRP and root for G360H
TWRP has one for SM G360H
twrp-3.0.0-0-core33g
There's an IMG and a TAR.
I can't remember where I downloaded it but if you search Google I'm sure you'll find it. After that install SU. Easy as pie. I've done it on mine and there is no problem.

After following the directions to root a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Verizon - SM-N910V from this thread: Easy Guide for How to Root Verizon Galaxy Note 4 I noticed I could no longer see my SIM card and also had no cell signal. Then I noticed my IMEI was blank and CSC and other Information in the 'About phone' > Status was missing. I followed the direction in the above thread carefully as I'm not new to all this and know the details are critical when rooting and flashing. I read through many threads here referring to solutions and found many referred to restoring nv_data.bin, .nv_data.bin and so on. None of those existed on my phone. Interestingly none of those files existed on other rooted Samsung phones I have where they were said to be even though those phones had no problems and had good IMEI numbers showing, cell phone working and so on.
In the process of trying to find a solution one involved using the Service Menu which can be accessed on rooted phones by various means - normally using *#0011# in the dialer and following up with some other key input to access it. On my phone all I saw was a big BLANK with no Menu showing up. It seemed everything I tried was a dead end. I tried the Dr. Ketan's IMEI Tool SGN4 with no luck either. Some of the solutions suggested that if you had DOWNGRADED a ROM the fix was to flash a newer Modem firmware. But in my case I had not downgraded - I had upgraded from LL 5.0.1 to 5.1.1. But when I looked closer I realized the directions that helped me root this phone did not upgrade all the firmware. The modem was still 5.0.1. So even though I had upgraded rather than downgraded I decided there was a good chance that upgrading the Modem might be the solution - at least for the IMEI. To my surprise it fixed all the problems.
Note that you should always do backups (preferably a complete backup with TWRP or similar) before flashing anything new.
So if you have any of the above problems the solution was actually fairly simple and easy. Get the updated modem firmware - in my case the BPA1 version (which you can find a lot of Galaxy Note 4 firmware in a thread here on XDA) and flash the newer Modem firmware using the latest Odin into the 'CP' (old term was Phone) slot and upon reboot you should see your Service Menu reappear, your IMEI will show again, you can see your SIM card and your Cell service will work once again.
I got my firmware from links in this post by hsbadr: https://forum.xda-developers.com/no...mware-firmware-kernel-modem-recovery-t2902574
Make sure you know how to use Odin and look around here on XDA for help with that or how to access the Service Menu. You don't need to access the Service Menu to fix the above problems but having access to the Service Menu can be helpful for many purposes.

so wait.....you had a note 4/with the original KitKat firmware on it still? i don't understand why you were attempting at 5.0.1 the root method was intended for 5.1.1 bpa1 but it would probably work at a lower api. but that still doesn't explain why u were rooting at that point unless this is way old and your just now posting thread .

No this did not have KitKat on it. It had Lollipop 5.0.1. This is what I did just in the last week or so - not old. I followed directions by Tripper511 as that was the only way you could root this verizon Note 4. Do you know of some root method for 5.0.1 - I couldn't find any anywhere and Tripper said you HAD to be on 5.1.1 for his method to work. It did work so all was good. You aren't confusing versions are you ? Kitkat = 4.4.2 and 4.4.4. Lollipop = 5.0, 5.0.1, 5.1.1 and so on.

I remember we had them new for 149 now (new was thinking i should get another) but I didnt realize the firmware was still what it rolled out with. Not sure of the history of the phone - it had broken S-pen sensor but other than that looked totally new - no wear at all - no screen burn, no nicks or wear anywhere. Bought it used from a guy on CL. I was surprised also that it only had 5.0.1 on it.
I followed Easy Guide for How to Root Verizon Galaxy Note 4 as well but I already had root. That allowed me to skip the root process and get full TWRP and TB backups. It all went smoothly except I had no IMEI, wouldn’t see the SIM card, same symptoms as OP when finished. I restored EFS and then modem from TWRP but it didn’t help. I went back to 5.0.1 and everything worked but got a backup of 5.1.1 first.
Droidzer, the modem firmware you link to is for T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (N910T) and I don’t see 5.1.1 anywhere. Is this a mistake? I’d like to do the same as you and restore the modem.
Edit; I found the sm910v modem firmware. I'll give the upgrade another try soon.
I have an AT&T Galaxy G950u with my most recent firmware being g950usqs7dtb1. I flashed a combination file (g950usqu7ask1) to turn on OEM unlock so I could install Havoc (I know now, I didn't have to do all that,) but now I can't get Odin to flash any stock ROMs back to install TWRP. The main error I'm receiving in Odin is FAIL! (Auth).
I've tried all kinds of ROMs but I can't find my original ROM anywhere except some shady site that definitely isn't legit.
When I boot into Download/Odin mode the numbers next to RP SWREV are B7(2.1.1.1.1) k6 S7
The error on my phone is SW Rev Check fail: (ab)) Fused 7 > Binary 1
I realized I probably need a carrier free (XAA) or ATT firmware that is binary 7. The problem is it's so recent I can't find any binary 7 firmwares out there. I've searched Updato and couldn't find xaa firmware for binary 7
Working with patched/modded Odin 3B v3.14.1
If anyone can help I would be so grateful.
Edit: I've tried Frija and it says ATT not supported, and it says it can't find anything for XAA. I've also searched Updato thoroughly and can't find a binary 7 file.
Edit 2: I found a ROM.

Well first off you can't flash any custom ROMs on this device it has a locked bootloader. Oem unlock doesn't matter. It's useless. Garbage. That's all for that. Flash any other carrier firmware and flash the oyn csc not home. It will repersonalize for att as the firmware are actually multi carrier. Att included.

Thanks for the input. I'm trying to flash twrp as a custom recovery but it gets stuck on "waiting for device". I've updated all drivers and have no error in device manager

Hey there @TheMadScientist not following you! haha. Just came across this thread as im researching what elliwigy and jrkruse have done.
To @uberdad search for anything s8 SM-G950 by jrkruse and elliwigy here and you should have a solution if your device is still on 7. Wont be twrp but will be safestrap twrp. You can install a custom rom then.

There are no custom roms. You can only have root on a 7.0 stock system img. Please research more before beginning to pass on information. As well this thread is now old no need to dig up old stuff. I helped out with some of the stuff on this device I know what it can and cannot do. Here wanted to install a los based rom. which is a big no. Add I said to begin with

Then he was trying to flash twrp. Which is a big no. Please don't go dragging up a bunch of old threads we have dealt with. This leads to confusing people

Hi. Yes you are right I should have said Slightly Cooked Rom or Modified System Image. However preferred to put Custom Rom due to the fact the amount of new Customization Enthusiasts here on XDA to make it simpler. Also sure yes USER Root on XDA only obtained on 7.0 (at least public). Little off topic but our team has a *working* root along with our own SuperUser which means for repairs pretty much but if time was put into it could become possibly a semi to full user root. I have used Magisk SU older versions along with our root and had a semi working user root on past Galaxies.. Anyhow we don't really have time, especially myself, to work on an actual user root for every device i/we work on.
In the world of forums threads never really grow old they just go into a deep sleep eventually....Until someone wakes it up with the thirst for knowledge. It's how the internet works when it comes to these here BBS/Forums/Blogs etc. =]
What he asked could be something someone else might ask or attempt trying (he shouldnt have even got as far as he did unless on international variant which makes the Q odd.. haha eh? however i felt the need to straighten it up for anyone who might read and get confused. See what im saying..? along with the previous statement about data no become stale.
The more ya know the smarter you become. Information makes the world go around. .. IMO Always best to keep it flowing constantly added to.
