Do you think it's a hardware problem or software?
The picture is made when the device it's starting up.
Other behavior: it's not power on display from deepsleep even if it calls.
Thanks in advance for your opinion!
Hard to say, but 1) give it back to warranty fix if your phone still has warranty, 2) if not, then try to reflash rom, you can try original one and cyanogen mod or some other, 3) if it doesnt help - hardware problem.
1. I have Knox 0x1, will see...
2. I was on Alexander ROM, reflashed but nothing changed.
Saved everything on SD card, pulled out, restarted to download mod with terminal (the only solution to enter there or recovery), flashed factory ROM but to make a factory restore to avoid bootloop was almost impossible becouse the display say like in the picture. I manage to boot then I made a factory restore from setting becouse many processes had crashes. A strange behavior occurs when I intruce sd card (whit the phone on), the display wasn't turn on and after pulled out the phone made a hot reboot. Now will see if the problem it's solved but I'm doubt, it's strange that an SD card can make a issue like this.
Case solved!
The phone is back from service center, they changed the display on warnity with Knox 0x1 (4), but sendet with stock, unrooted, vodafone branded firmware !

Hello,
I have a problem with my i9505. The phone had been rooted with stock ROM. I've installed Avast Antivirus and decided to install Anti Theft feature. Installing it requires reboot. After confirming rebooting the phone beeped twice and rebooted. And this is where my problem begins.
After reboot the screen is black. It shows nothing. The phone boots, LED shows charging, connecting and disconnecting charger makes phone beep, but with few seconds delay. Connecting to PC shows content of phone memory.
I have managed to get to recovery. Odin had seen the phone so I've flashed official Samsung ROM. It didn't help.
Surprisingly after few hours with battery removed the phone started to work normally... until the next reboot.
And now it works until the reboot. After reboot the screen is black. After about 30 minutes without battery it works again.
The phone never got dropped or damaged in any way.
Before I get my phone to the service (hoping that they'll fix it under warranty) I'd like to ask you, if somebody had similar problem and knows how to fix it.
Thanks in advance.
Same problem on same phone
Hi,
I too had this problem, and fixing it wasn't difficult, however I used the TWRP recovery which @ingvarr_zaag probably doesn't have installed (seeing as they had stock firmware). Nevertheless I can confirm this identical problem on my own i9505.
I was using a CM10.1 nightly build for my i9505 and attempted to install the AVAST Anti-Theft feature using the root install method. On the first attempt at installation there was a free-space error, in which the amount of free space shown in the /system partition had overflowed and showed negative free space. To work around that error I filled up my /system partition until there was only 100mb free and then the install worked. All went well until I did a reboot; the phone hung at the i9505 screen.
I tried rebooting the phone and removing the battery for a short while, but nothing worked - the phone still hung at the i9505 screen. However, all other functions worked, so I just reflashed CM10.1 after wiping /cache, /data (but not /data/media), /system, and the Dalvik-cache (though that is in /cache AFAIK so pretty redundant). All was fine after that reflash, other than the annoyance of having to set everything up again (didn't make a backup recently).
Obviously the Anti-Theft wasn't very secure if it could be removed by a simple reflash. But to be fair, I highly doubt any software can protect itself from a format!
Anyway, just letting people know that I can confirm this this problem exists, and how I fixed it on my phone.

I had Clockwork Recovery installed but I couldn't use it, because after reboot the screen was black. I managed to get to android recovery and flashed stock Samsung ROM by Odin. It didn't help.
After 2 weeks in service it's possible that today I get my phone back. Finally, because two weeks with Samsung Galaxy Advance were miserable.
Actual status on service's page says, that they replaced main board in my phone.
BTW: no Avast Anti Theft ever again.
So yesterday I was attempting to play with some ROMs on my phone, and tried a couple of the Google Edition KitKat ROMs. The install process went normally, but after bootup, both ROMs I tried were giving an error repeatedly for com.android.phone after the phone booted up. So I OK'd through the error messages whenever it would pop up, and eventually force closed through app manager, and put the phone into airplane mode so it would stop popping up so I could check out the ROM. Volume was working at the time because I remember notification sounds while I was messing around. Once I had my fun, I went back into CWM, wiped, and restored to my normal ROM which is PAC Man 4.2.2. Restore process seemed to go fine.
Now this morning I attempted to turn on Pandora as I was getting ready for work, and it kept auto forwarding through each song and was acting weird. So I tried Google Play Music, and it force closed and gave a DSP Manager not responding error. So I tried Apollo, and same thing happened. Rebooted a few times, tried to reinstall DSP, Music, and Apollo, and the same thing was happening. I also noticed I had no notification sounds and if I try to change my sounds, I cant hear the preview. Finally, if I try to make a call by clicking on the Phone icon, I can see my call history, contacts, etc, but if I try to call out, the screen goes black. The call does go through though, but there is nothing on the screen and I cant hear anything.
So I went back to an even older restore I had saved, and even a STOCK GS4 rooted restore I had, and the problems persisted. So for the hell of it, I tried to restore back to stock unrooted image but then I remembered I couldnt because of Knox, and the phone got stuck in download mode while trying to ODIN. Eventually I was able to get back to my latest restore of PAC Man but the problems persist.
What could the issue be? Its happening no matter what ROM Im using. But I do not think its a hardware problem or I likely wouldnt have all the quirky things happening on the phone apps (I dont think?). Is there something in the firmware or bootloader that would make the volume/phone functions not work? When it got stuck in ODIN download mode could that have screwed something up? Any help is apprecated.
I dunno if u void ur warranty but i think yes, but this isnt important now (take a look in your download mode knox 0x0 (ok) or knox 0x1(void). I think the best u can do:
- Download one ROM (flashable in RECOVERY) that no **** ur warranty if ur KNOX still 0x0 (in the case KNOX is 0x1, download any good rom for your device)
- Copy it to your External SD card
- Go to CUSTOM RECOVERY
- Wipe all
- Install the .zip file
- Enjoy!
I already know the warranty is voided and I'm not concerned with the Knox stuff, I've already been through all that. I accidentally upgraded to 4.3 bootloader in the past but thankfully had a custom recovery already installed so I'm OK with that. I'm just trying to figure out what may have caused the volume and app issues and how to resolve.
Any other ideas? I'd really like to avoid getting a new phone that might have Knox installed out of the box and be stuck with a stock phone.
Just realized it will not play youtube app and Chrome browser videos either, just crashes, and the handsfree camera feature screws up taking pictures so I have to disable that feature. Something isnt right.
OK to start off i am not a noob at this, i have read though the forms and cant seem to find out why my phone will not come out of this bootloop. This started happening 2 days ago when I went to install a new rom on my phone. I powered down my phone, put it in recovery (Twrp), I wiped everything but internal storage. I then processed to flash the new rom. Everything went great. My phone rebooted and worked fine for the first 1 min, when i tried to pull down the notification bar the phone stuck off and went into a bootloop. I then tried to go back to my old rom and had the same problem (notification bar would not pull down). So i went to plan B and used the Back To Stock Form to restore the phone back to stock. The process went smooth as well not a problem at all. When the phone started up it allowed me to set up the voice navigation and name of the phone, as i went to update the prl and profile the phone shut off again, when it turned back on it starts normally and the goes to the lock screen where i am unable to make any iterations with the screen at all besides when it turns the blacklight off, as i try to use the knock on the LED light turns white but the screen will not turn back on (not even with the power button). Then it reboots to the lockscreen again and continues to do it until i manually force it off. I have tried everything from redownloading the firmware files, tried back to stock 3 times, hard factory reset, and reset in recovery mode. My phone is back to stock but i am unable to do anything with it unless i factory reset and go though the set up again, but even then i cant get a connection (even with wifi) without the phone shutting off and rebooting. Everytime the phone reboots the time reads 12:00am and switches to 12:01 really quick. I cant get a connection at ALL (I EVEN TRIED REMOVING THE SIMS AND AND PUT IT BACK IN AFTER BACK TO STOCK PROCESS.)
Im not sure if the application Dr.Web could possibly be making my phone do this. I did have it installed and did not remove before I tried to switch to the new rom. The anti-theft part was active.
SOMEONE PLEASE BE MY HERO AND HELP........I REALLY WOULD HATE TO DEAL WITH LG ON THIS ISSUE IF I CAN FIX IT MYSELF

I did make a backup before flashing the rom. when i tried to go back to it i had the same problem with it rebooting after a few mins. i tried flashing furnace 0.0.8 kernel after installing a fresh rom but same problem. I am back on factory recovery atm is there anyway to flash twrp back to the phone without it being rooted? i tried to get the computer to communicate with the phone when it turns on but it wont seem to connect unless im in download mode or recovery.

I had the same problem except with me, i was just trying to change fonts manually. It went into a bootloop and i stressed dover it for hours until finally i found out that you have to use the lg mobile support tool (you can find it in one of these threads on the lg g2) and revert it back to stock. That fixed it perfectly fine. Its a lengthy process but simple. If that doesn't work you have to do what the lg mobile support tool does semi-manually with another program lg flash tool which is longer but just as simple if you follow the directions given in the thread to the letter.

I tried the lg flash tool and it put my phone back to stock but still have the same problem. I also tried lg mobile support tool but it will not recongize my phone. I did happen to get into settings and seen that both my imei and baseband are unknown. Could this be causeing the proble m? is there any way to fix it?

Yes my phone turns on but doesnt stay on for long it will freeze and reboot i noticed my imei and baseband are unknown. Any idea what can be causeing that to happen? Could it cause the phone to reboot like it is? I am back on stock firmware again,. I did try debugging but still no luck, i was even luck enough to root it again before it rebooted but still didnt help.

they have coders there, I'm sure if they really want to know they can figure it out. If you send it in to get it fix out of your own pockets (meaning you pay them) then i'm sure they dont care, but if you want a replacement due to warranty then it may be a different story.

I eneded up restoreing my phone back to stock and took it into my local sprint store it cost ne 75 dollars to replace the phone not under warranty (if u have sprint protection its free) i told them i took and ota update and it started rebooting itself. If you do get a replacement make sure u back up your efs files to a safe place on your phone. Theses files can become corrupted by flashing roms and kernals.

Not under warranty? Doesn't it have a 1 year manufacturer warranty? The G2 wasn't released on Sprint until November last year so it should have been covered.

Yes its still under manufacturer warranty but when i made a repair order with lg it said it would take 2 to 3 weeks to get my phone back and if they found out it was due to being rooted and flashing roms im sure lg would of charged a arm a leg to repair it. With sprint i got a new phone in 2 days or ordering it.
Hey guys
Just got a S5 (previously owned a S2 and S4 Active, which I have rooted and put custom ROMs so many times. Hence I'm familiar with Odin, Recovery, etc etc).
About a week ago, I installed Shohat v5 ROM, everything went fine. I was quite happy with it.
I installed back my app from my S4 Active through a big update.zip (backed up with Titanium paid version) thanks to custom recovery.
And just now, when my battery was like 5% left, I decided to make a hard reboot (as Xprivacy warned me that I needed to restart to have my changes into effect).
I charged my phone and THEN I push the reboot button (not the hot boot).
While charging, the screen went normally black, but stayed black with the blue LED notification ON (not sure if that info is important).
Then, black screen stays forever:
- no logo
- no download mode
- no recovery
- When phone is connected through USB to my laptop, I hear the usual "tadaam" sound from Windows, but no "USB notification".
It seems a JIG would be the solution, but no idea if that would work for a S5 (I guess Samsung has now worked to avoid that solution)
Well, if anyone can help, that would be cool
Obvious I know but you have pulled the battery for a while and tried again right?

Hello
Indeed, I just removed the battery for a few hours a tried, no success.
But is it normal that a hardbrick can occur 1 week after installing a custom ROM?
Right now I can't bring it to Samsung store for repair...
(Adding a new post as editing is not working properly)
Isn't there a way to use ADB with commands through Windows (as there is the "tadaam" sound when I connect it through USB)?
A friend of mine bricked his Nexus tablet and went through such solution to remove the brick ...
OK ............
Here's the magic
After removing on and off the battery many times, trying to boot in recovery or download (trying about 15 times)
Now I managed to boot in recovery (I was like "huh?" and "wooohoooooo")
Did Wipe cache
Did Wipe Dalvick
No Factory reset
Fixed root (seems like I lost it, no idea why)
Let's see if I can reboot it
I think maybe the issue came from the huge update.zip created from my S4 Active (i9295) with Titanium backup (I was in Android version 4.2.2).
Maybe the reinstalled apps, messed up something as the ROM was in version 4.4.2...

OK ... bad news again
I performed a hard reboot to check that everything was stable, and phone rebooted fine.
then I turned off and removed to battery to put back the SD card and the SIM card, and now the phone is not being turned on again.
And now the phone is not able to be turned ON again...
What's going on, any idea?
*** EDIT ***
I managed to reboot in custom recovery totally randomly after playing with the battery (removing, putting it back, trying to boot)
I made a full factory reset and reinstalled the custom ROM Shohat.
After rebooting, it went directly to ODIN as it was displaying error messages "ddi: MMC_read failed"
I guess the internal SD card is dead.
Questions:
1/ Is warranty OK if
- KNOX counter is at 0 (no idea why it is at zero)
- Current Binary is set to OFFICAL
- BUT SYSTEM STATUS is set to "CUSTOM"
2/ Can a custom ROM do this or is it a hardware failure?
Did you try with another sd card did you have apps installed on this sd card for me this sounds like a dead sdcard issue with some apps on it. I had the same issue with my X8 when a lot of apps ware running from the sd card btw sd cards are totally unreliably for storing important data as they usually die after some writing on them.
Change the SD Card and I think your phone will come back to normal.

I don't know if this helps but I had an GS-900H (S5 octacore version) and struggled with it for a week trying to debug this problem, ordered new memory cards, installed different ROMs, etc. only to find out that the card reader was bad.
In my case it would corrupt the card every time so that my PC would need to 'repair' it before I could begin using it in the PC.
Maybe the card reader is a common point of failure?
EDIT: I also had issues with different cards working and not working based on the speed of the SD card (different S5). I know for a fact that it will switch you over to main memory when taking pictures that require advanced features -- I got a popup telling me that my memory card wasn't fast enough.

Hello guys
Thanks for your input.
Unfortunately I do not have an external SD card, the issue is with the Internal memory
So i can not request new ones or try to replace it, or work on the card reader...

Hello
Well, not sure that ODIN will work as the internal MMC is not recognized, so where would that be installed?
Furthermore, I'm waiting for the feedback from Samsung (as knox counter is at 0, Binary is set to OFFICIAL and only status is set to Custom).
I did not want to change these counters with manipulating ODIN.
If Samsung gives it back to me with a new one, then wooohoooo
If Samsung says "f*** off, you manipulated it, warranty is off", then I'll use ODIN with STOCK ROM from Samfirmware + PIT file (they are ready for use on my computer)
If you can't get to download mode how do you propose to use Odin to flash stock ??

Thats not normal. I recommend sending/bringing it back to the store you bought it and ask for a RMA
i seen some issues too. but they tried factory reset and they said it wont restart any more. so i tried it also but still
Just return it to the shop you bought it. Its warranty
Make sure the battery is fully seated. Sometimes if its making intermittent contact, it can appear to be doing restarts. Its actually loosing power for a split second and starts back up when the battery moves back into contact. Had a buddy's phone do this, and reseating the battery fixed it.
I had the same problem with the stock rom but i flashed another rom and no problems so far !
