Factory reset before updating to Lollipop? - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hearing a lot about bugs and battery drains after lollipop update. Read somewhere that factory resetting after the update solves a lot of problem. I was thinking about factory resetting my note 4 both before and after the update. But I've already downloaded the update, now question is will the update be deleted if i factory reset the phone before the update? Anyone?

I haven't reset before installing after downloading but I'm going to assume it will delete the downloaded update. And yeah factory resetting after installing is a good idea, as I haven't had any memory leak issues people have complained about.

if you do it in recovery it should not delete internal storage however just to make sure copy it on pc and save the directory on your phone so you can install it

[Q] Android 4.3 Update for S4

Hello guys, I have a S4 and I just received the OTA update for android 4.3. However, since this update, I have been getting lag spikes when I use my phone even if I am only using whatsapp. This only occured after I updated my phone. Is there any fix out there and will there be a fix by samsung?

It must have just been a bad flash. Have you tried resetting to factory settings?
Or alternatively, since you are on stock, use KIES (the Samsung software) to restore the firmware.

Just backup with Kies. Also try deleting the cache partition

I had a similar issue after the 4.3 update. I simply let the update finish, pulled the battery with the power on, powered up, rebooted and all was good.
just to tell everyone i did a factory reset and it worked so i guess that is the only fix ya

[Q] Nexus 4 shuts down at night for no apparent reason

OK, This is my problem. I own a nexus 4 which is rooted with the Wugs Nexus Root Toolkit. All the proper drivers are installed according to the toolkit. I updated the phone to 5.0.1 and re-rooted the phone successfully. Now with that said the phone works all day and when I go to sleep at night it shuts itself down and takes holding down the power button for a while before it will turn back on. 2 nights in a row now. I am not super tech savvy so if any one knows why this update has brought on this issue please clue me in. While searching for answers most people think factory data reset and that is no guarantee and seems to be a bit drastic. Google has to be aware of this issue because you can google the problem and it has a lot of entries about Nexus 4 shutting itself down after 5.0.1 update.

It's not a shutdown. It's a freeze. That's why you have to simulate a battery pull (hold power button longer) to restart it.
You could flash the factory images if you'd like. It's like a factory data reset, but it also re-installs the system itself. You are rooted, so you can backup your apps and data.

I have most everything backed up but what should I do? If Google isn't going to fix this should I factory reset or is there something else I should do.? My phone is rooted and there is a setting to "Factory Data Reset" on the Backup & Restore setting. Or should I do the reset through the WugFresh Nexus Toolkit? However I do it isn't the 5.0.1 update going to be installed if I do a Factory Data Reset? It won't go back to 4.4.4 will it?

Okay so
1. There's probably nothing to fix. Your system just developed a bug that can be fixed by reinstalling it. I don't have any problem. It's not universal.
2. By flashing the latest factory images, which are Android 5.0.1 ( https://dl.google.com/dl/android/aosp/occam-lrx22c-factory-86c04af6.tgz ) , you will basically delete all you data on the phone, which is factory resetting, while reinstalling the system at the same time. And no, you won't go back to 4.4.4.
A factory reset by itself does not reinstall the system. It simply deletes your data.
Here is a guide on how to flash the factory images:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/general/how-to-how-to-flash-factory-image-t2010312
And then you can use the toolkit again to root.
Same happens to my phones and flashing or restoring is not gonna help u in any way. Roll back to 4.4 and that solves the problem for me.
Download safe charge from the play store, mines stopped doing it ever since!

[Q] sm-g9001 WIFI problem after Lollipop.

I have a Galaxy s5 sm-g9001. After updating to lollipop, I have a problem with WIFI.
It is still connecting and remains stable however I can't browse the internet. I can only open the modem settings page 192.168.1.1.
Does anyone know what the issue can be?
Factory resetting after updating from KK to LP is highly recommended, KK leaves behind rubbish files that cause problems, resetting usually fixes most of them

Battery issue, drained overnight on idle

My op2 was at 48% before I went to sleep.
Woke up to find that the battery was completely drain and off!
Also this: 6 hours for 78%!?
Is this a software issue?? Any ideas?
It's not a software issue. Send it to service centre
Right now, in three minutes it went from 70% to 67%!
In 3 minutes! Is that normal??
Its not a hardware issue. Your stats are reporting that the screen is on all the time even when its not. Make sure you're updated to the latest OxygenOS 2.1.1 and then perform a full factory reset and restart everything from scratch, dont even do a restore from google backup after that. See how it all goes.
I'd be a bit lost if I don't backup from Google...
Nevertheless, I'll try doing all that.

If even a full factory reset doesn't solve the problem, then install BetterBatteryStats (Root required to do what you need to do to check for wakelocks) then leave the phone running for 30mins or so. Then open the app and see what app is going rogue. Once you narrow down which app(s) is causing the problem, the easiest solution would be the uninstall it. If you really need that app though, see if there is a setting to potentially keep it from waking up the phone.
quick solution to this:
factory reset, and wipe cache partitions. Should fix it.

It shouldn't matter regardless, even if you were to do it twice, both before and after. The factory reset itself also wipes those caches in addition to your internal storage.

Updated my nougat and now my phone keeps rebooting after a minute of use

Hello. I have a Sprint s7e. Yesterday I updated my phone to the Nougat Beta and everything was going good. This morning I got a notification that an update was available so I accepted and it once it finished my phone keeps rebooting. It will fully load and within a minute of use, it will reboot. Even if I don't use the phone after the reboot, it will reboot in about a minute. Anyone else experiencing this? Possible fixes? I tried Safe Mode and it still rebooted. One mistake I made was I have items disabled with EZ Disabler which I forgot to re-enable. Ive done this before on Marshmallow and it never gave me any issues. Could this be the problem?
Is there a way to revert back to the older Beta Version, or even Marshmallow? Thanks
I would try a factory reset

I would either try a factory reset or clearing the Cache. The last option would be a factory reset back to Marshmellow and then re-download the beta.
This happens on my wifes s7 edge. I assume its because of the (snapdragon 820) bootloader not liking root. Factory reset didnt solve issue for me because it threw up dm verity argument errors. Only thing that worked was flash combination firmware to completely wipe.
I had a similar issue. I would wipe data and clear cache. Start fresh. Android 7.0 vs 6.01 might have had compatibility issues or data corrupt caused bootloop. This is just my opinion. It sucks redoing everything, trust me. I had the Note 7 then got the s7 edge on Thursday, set it up on the stock 6.0.1. Then Friday found the Nougat beta and did my 1st download. It keeper rebooting constantly after It had finished set up.of course. So, I had to reset it up. I was able to go a day then reboot stuff happened again. So I data wiped and did it all over but this time I did not restore apps. I did fresh install and happy to report no issues thus far.
Sorry for long drawn out personal response, was just trying to share my experience in the event that it is useful to you.

Has anyone had a problem with "Android Wear has stopped"? It started with the last update to PL3. I've tried clearing app cache and data as well as clearing cache from recovery. Hopefully the next update will fix it, but I've been wondering if anyone with a android watch has had a problem.
