Using Cyanogenmod M12
4.4.4
Have been using cyanogenmod since a year. Updated to M12 a month ago
Phone was working perfectly when the signals stopped. I restarted the phone and signals came back. This happened once more, then I couldn't get signals.
Then I took out the sim card, reinserted it, turned on the airplane mode and then turned back to normal mode. Signals came back but then signals started dropping until they disappeared.
I haven't been able to restore signals until then.
No recent updates /damage
I tried the sim card with other phone, sim card was fine.
I have been using phone since I bought it slightly used in 2012
I have also checked with my country's telecom authority, phone had not been blocked.
Any suggestions?

Hey everyone,
Had the Galaxy S2 since Saturday, unlocked the device, everything was working great. Out of no where, yesterday the phone still shows the H+ logo and full signal, yet i cannot send, receive text messages, initiate a data connection or make/receive phone calls.
In order to get all that ability back, you either have to 1) reboot the device, or 2) turn airplane mode on then off.
This only works for roughly 10 minutes before it all happens all over again.
I tried swithing to WCDMA only, but issue still persists, even tried some menu codes I found on another thread to disable H+ but the same thing happens.
This is currently happening on the bell shipped rom with no root or anything of the sort.
Has anyone experienced this?
I've searched for hours but can only really find complaints of data connection loss only. In my case it's everything. Data / SMS / Cell
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I feel your pain, even though I have an XEU unlocked GS2, I've updated it with every update from kies hoping the issue would resolve.
Even with the latest KF3 update the issue persisted, however the phone could be used on Rogers with no issues, on Telus data drops constantly.
Disabling fast dormancy didn't do much to help.
However since updating the phone to KG3 2.3.4 yesterday I have not had the issue happen again. For the first time since I got the phone it no longer drops the data connection on Telus.

Thanks for the quick response. Was it only your data that disconnected, or everything else?
Also, may you please link me to the update? I suppose I could use that as a last ditch effort before exchanging the device before its too late.
My issue has changed over the past couple months, originally the phone would report that it dropped the network and when it came back data wouldn't work until airplane off then on or a reboot.
Lately things seemed fine with occasional data drops until yesterday, when it had full signal but I couldn't use data, sms or make a call. It was basically a paper weight until I updated it. The link to the file which has everything you need to update from samfirmware.com is below.

*edit - I'd make sure you have a back-up of your current firmware in case you need to flash back and return the phone.
I have the exact same problem. Bought a bell gs2 unlocked it and now with telus. My data dropped constantly and now I'm using the newest litening rom and now it only drops maybe once or twice a day so a huge improvement

If it's any consolation, I ran my Virgin SIM over the weekend (just to burn up the data I had to buy for a 1 month) and the same thing happened on stock firmware.
In my case, it would put me in "emergency calls only" mode, saying I wasn't authorized for the network (i.e. it wasn't recognizing my SIM). Tried the usual stuff (re-seating SIM, using the Telus SIM, reboots, cache wipes, network WCDMA/GSM selection etc), and nothing fixed it, it just seemed to come back on its own when it was good and damned ready no matter which SIM I used.
Flashed to "Frankenstein" KG3 on Sunday, and neither the Virgin or Telus SIM has lost network since then, in the same areas. WiFi seems to be working better too.
Hey guys,
So I’m having a bit of a dilemma. Here's my situation, my Xoom had been updated to 4G already. My issue is that I can't diagnose when exactly a loss of data connectivity occurs when swapping sims with my Thunderbolt.
Here is what I’ve found so far.
-Upon receipt of Xoom back from Moto I,
1. Flashed recovery-Tiamat-R4c-100611-1150-cwm.img
2. Flashed Universal root method.
No problems with Wifi or Data until I attempted to swap Sim card with my Thunderbolt. Then complete loss of data and WiFi. I tried restarting and removing sim, Power cycling with Vol-up/Pwer with no results.
-From here I hard reset back to stock.
I then Reflashed recovery-Tiamat-R4c-100611-1150-cwm.img.
Root was still intact so I flashed Android Honeycomb 3.2.2 - Stock & Rooted, which put me at HLK42B. I had 3g/4g however no WiFi. At this point I tried sim swapping without powering down and after a force restart was successful in using the TB sim card. My Verizon updated to my unlimited plan and all on the Xoom home screen.
I however decided to try and fix WiFi so I without wiping flashed HLK42C provided by SemperAndroid. This restored all WiFi connectivity and 3g/4g remained intact. I also flashed the "Tachi" kernel and OC'd to 1.4. I experienced no outages of data all last night and today.
However this afternoon I attempted to swap my sim card and after a forced restart was met with no data connectivity but working WiFi. I power cycled several times with no result. I then powered down and pulled the sim, put in the Xoom sim and restarted with no results. However after approx 3-4 times of powering down and pulling the sim I received about 20 seconds of 1x connectivity and then a short while later I noticed I had 3g showing but when I went to connect to browser it disconnected and I received a page couldn’t be loaded.
I also tried to restore a backup I had to HLK42B but it did not restore any data.
So it appears that so far we can only swap sims successfully on HLK42B however we lose WiFi connectivity as a result. Anyone have any other findings to share?
Thanks for your time..
Dave
Update:
Alright some more trial and error. I'm can't completely confirm it yet but so far it really seems that the manner in which you swap the sim card is what might cause the loss of data.
Last night I reverted to a backup of HLK42B which didn't initially store data but after troubleshooting a few times I learned that putting the settings into CDMA only and restarting seemed to reattempt the activation to the network.
Anyways, after getting back data, I decided to swap in my TB sim again. This time I pulled the tray out waited about 15 seconds for the "Please insert sim card" popup and plugged my TB sim back in then restarted via the popup.
Viola, 4g connectivity, I had lost root due to restoring my backup of HLK42B so I flashed recovery and universal root and data checked ok. I then flashed HLK42C over HLK42B and still retained data while on the TB sim. Backed up and flashed Tachi kernel and still maintained data. I then pulled the sim tray in the same manner allowing 15 seconds or so and reinserted the Xoom sim and restarted via the popup. Again no issues with data connectivity.
My only issue I can see was the manner in which I pulled the sim card out initially yesterday. In an attempt to trick the system I pulled the Xoom sim and immediately popped in the TB sim without allowing the device to popup with the notification of "No sim card inserted" After that I experienced the loss of data..
Again these aren't backed up with any technically "real" proof, just trial and error.. If anyone has anything else to share please let me know..
Dave
You just picked the wrong time to swap cards. VZW was having connectivity problems yesterday.

My N4 got here today and put my t-mobile sim card in, but I'm not getting any service at all. Even with the sim card inserted, it still says "Emergency Calls Only." I tried connecting to tmo manually in the mobile networks page, but it just errors without connecting. What's strange is that on the phone status screen, my phone number and IMEI are displayed correctly so I don't think my sim card is the issue.
It shipped with 4.2.2, so I tried reverting back to 4.2.1 since I saw a couple comments about how the 4.2.2 update was causing reception issues, but still nothing. Tried flashing different radios/kernels/roms, but can't seem to get anything to work. I'm not having any other connectivity issues (wifi, bluetooth, etc) either. Could anyone shed some light on this issue? I'm stumped.

Did you get the N4 from Google Play or T-Mobile? If not, check that the IMEI is not blacklisted.
http://www.t-mobile.com/verifyIMEI.aspx
Is this a MicroSIM, or a cut down MiniSIM?
Cut SIM's known to have issues.
When you reverted to 4.2.1, did you flash the radio image as well?

Unless you need LTE, I would re-flash JDQ39 and re-lock the bootloader

If T-Mobile shows in a network scan, you should be able to connect. Visit a T-Mobile store to swap SIM's, otherwise you may need to RMA it.
I bought it on ebay. Checked to see if the IMEI is blacklisted but according to T-Mobile the IMEI is clear for use.
I am using the same sim card from my galaxy note, but I had it cut at a t-mobile store. The guy even verified that it was cut properly by putting it in his galaxy s3 and it worked fine.
When I reverted to 4.2.1, I tried using both radios 0.48 and 0.33, but neither did anything.
I'll try your last suggestion and report back.
Thanks
The N4 is super picky about cut Sim cards
Even if it works on another phone , it probably won't work in the Nexus .

Make sure the gold contacts on the back are all getting touched , you should see lightly indented lines on the back from putting it in your slot , if it doesn't work try to get a precut micro sim from T-Mobile

I was on Cyanogenmod 10.2 without any problem for couple of days.
This afternoon I got a call and the phone just froze when I answer the call.
I reboot the phone and the service is not working properly (it was still working but kept shutting itself off)
I could not make a call unless I disable mobile data (3g) or connect the wifi and call by wifi calling.
Searching on the Network operators just kept getting error. I tried to flash stock 4.2.2 (rooted) but it did not solve the problem
My brother has a Nexus 4 so I tried to switch the sim cards but it works just fine on his phone but not on mine
So I flashed the factory image using Nexus 4 toolkit I'm on 4.2.2 JDQ39 and now all services are not working at all (3g&call)
I switched the sim cards with my brother's nexus 4 again and its still working on his phone.
Is this a hardware problem? What can I do to solve it? Network operators kept giving me errors again.
PS I bought the phone from US Play Store but now I am not in the US anymore so I cannot return it to google and I've had this phone for several months already.
Thank you in advance :good:
Hi,
Ive mentioned this on another couple of threads, but thought I would start a thread for this issue.
My unlocked, unbranded Note3 (UK, on Three network, UK) had an issue where when it lost signal (eg if I went in a lift/elevator) it would not correctly re-log onto my home 3g network (Three). It would connect to another (unknown) network, and stay in 'emergency calls only' mode, even when I returned to an area with a known strong signal.
Sometimes putting it in aeroplane mode and off again jumped it onto the correct network, but rebooting the phone ALWAYS reconnected to Three.
Setting it to only connect to three (rather than auto select network) seemed to help a bit, but it still happened.
I went in the Three store, and they swapped the sim card, which appeared to help, but in fact didnt after testing for a week.
Today I swapped the unit for a new one (in Car Phone Warehouse) - and am now going to be testing this over the next few days.
Ive heard of this happening on other Samsung phones (i think it was the galaxy 3 or 4) from a cab driver I once used...
Has anyone else had this issue?
Ill update this thread after proper testing
I had noticed that my Note3 sometimes shows 'emergency calls' only but had assumed mobile network signal from my normal operator (Vodafone UK) was too low. Never noticed this on Note2 but will keep ultra aware now!

Hi
Early indications with the new handset are good. I'm in the place where it always happened , having gone in the lift and it jumped straight back into H mode with good data...
Won't call it for a week though but I'm hopeful it was just a one off faulty unit
