[Q] Should I upgrade to the S5? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone!
I currently have a galaxy S4 and don't feel like spending $600 or being on a monthly payment plan via AT&T and was considering just buying a used, last generation phone. I was looking at the Galaxy S5, the LG G3, and a few other ones (maybe Sony's Z3 and HTC's M8). One thing I really like about the S5 is the USB 3.0 charging, which the other phones don't have. However, the specs! I had a few questions that you guys might be able to answer:
1) Are you happy with the G3?
2) If you were looking to get an older generation phone now, would you get the S5 or another phone?
3) Are the bootloaders locked in the S5? (The S4 had the bootloaders locked in an update so I want to ensure that if this is an issue, I get one that hasn't been updated to a locked bootloader).
If you guys don't mind helping me make the right decision with an upgrade, I'd appreciate it. Thanks a lot!
-Jay

[Q] about the 3g & 4g versions.

hello everyone
i recently decided to buy the galaxy note 3 but now i am having to make a decision between the two variants.
i have to options at the moment:
option 1: buy the note 3 (octa-core) from my country which will cost me about 900$
option 2: buy the note 3 (snapdragon800) from another country which will cost about 800$ including the shipping costs, and of course, there will be no warranty for this option and it might be region locked.
so the i have some questions which will hopefully make the decision easier.
Q1: which one is faster and doesn't lag?
Q2: which one will have better development support?
Q3: which one will be easier to be modded? knowing that knox is on the way of doing so.
sorry for the long post.
thanks in advance

thank you for your reply, I've already watched the video but there was nothing mentioned about the lag.
thank you anyway, i guess that i am going with the snapdragon one as i was exploring the android dev section of the forum and found that the sd have more support.
i have 3g and it doesn't lag and i am sure 4g doesn't lag too.
imo 4g will have better development support
better development support means better modding

[Q] S5 vs S5 Plus (SM-G901F), Worth the wait?

Hey,
I want to buy a new device.
Most likely the S5 Plus, however It's not released yet in my country.
Neither do I know if it's gonna be released soon.
Does somebody know when it's officially coming to Europe? (Netherlands)
Greetings,
Meltina
it is already on sale in France
and there's some firmware available for netherland @ sammobile (vodafone ,t-mobile and PHN firmware !?)
https://www.vodafone.nl/shop/mobiel/telefoon/abonnement/samsung-galaxy-s5-gold.shtml?&abonnement=red-essential-d-2jr
S5 plus is worth waiting... i would spend a fortune for it but its not available here
Better CPU, and better LTE .. Don't think that's a lot to wait for though?
Would rather get pay a bit more and get note 4?
Hi. You can buy it also in Germany. Dont know where you live in the Netherland, but Nordhorn is directly by the border. You can get it there. Cheers
I would wait for the S6 by now. If you are a rooter you might wait for ever for proper tools. That happened to me with S4 4G version
I dislike QHD ;w;
More of an performance guy.
you can root g901f and there's one custom rom and one cwm based recovery
Hi. S6, Note4, Z3....all are maybe better....but also a bit greater. I have big hands but 5.1 or 5.2 i for me not easy to handle with hand.

I got it via Marktplaats (should ring a bell for you)
Rooted it, put CWM on it
Mine came with some T Mobile rom, I downloaded a Vodafone NL rom for it, flashed it with Odin, and that didn't have any branding
I did however remove some bloat apps, and even if you can't uninstall them you can still hide them
Send me a PM if you need help

[Q] Getting around SIM lock in Galaxy Note 3 purchased in Philippines

Hi everyone,
My brother brought back his Galaxy Note 3 from the Philippines (Smart network), and I was hoping to use it on the T-Mobile network. I asked this question in the T-Mobile-specific forums, but I didn't get any responses: Can anyone suggest a reputable merchant from which I could purchase an unlock code?
Also, I've done a bit of reading re: rooting my phone, and I'd be lying if I could make any sense of even most of what I've read. But, from what I gather, it's currently not possible to root the Galaxy Note 3 and not trip Knox?
I am considering rooting my phone to get around having to find somewhere to buy an unlock code, but I'm concerned about bricking my phone because of my overall nubishness.
Tell me my friend what's your ROM version.

Would you buy it now?

I'm looking to change my iphone 5c. I know the performance of the two phones is almost the same.
This would be my first Samsung. I'm a bit scared of switching because friends of mine had S4 (not mini) variants with major issues including replacement of mainboard).
The reason I am looking at this phone is that I want something with more freedom and future proofing ( removable battery, sdcard, nfc, IR ) and a bigger screen, while being around the $150-$200 price range
So:
Would anyone recommend buying it today?
Has anyone used this phone more than a year or two? I'm looking for a phone to last me at least 2-3 years, as I don't change them that often.
How is the rom availability and performance and stability of the available custom roms?
1) If you want it new, sure. But if you are going to buy it second hand, I would try and get a more recent flagship, something like S5 or G2-G3.
2) I got mine new in november 2014. used it for a year and a few months now. No problems for me.
3) The GT-I9505 variant has the best development support. If you are going to get an S4, get the GT-I9505. Avoid getting any rebranded models. Carriers like Verizon and Sprint rebrand their phones. Verizon even locks the bootloader, making flashing roms a nightmare.
do they have such a thing as shops that sell 2nd hand phones where you are ? I think you would stepping down from a 5c to an S4, you could probably pick up a really good 2nd hand android that meets most of your requirements and buy a new battery.
it's an OK phone but I wouldn't buy it again today given the choice.
the Qualcomm i9505 version has pretty decent rom kernel and mod support, but that is dwindling a little with developers moving on...

[Q] Buy S4 today?

Hello,
I am considering if I should buy new S4 costs 200 € or if i should choose another one and spend few tens of bucks to xperia z2, lg g3 or something else?
S4 is nowadays quite old phone but still as good or better as newer ones at same price.
What do advice me you who probably own this phone?
Now I have xperia Z which i am going to give my wife. I dont need big upgrade maybe just camera and display, but in build quality I will definitely downgrade with it wont I?
Buy Note 4 or S5 or Nexus 5/5X. S4 is only good if you run custom rom, but its showing age
The S4 (the GT-I9505 model specifically) can still handle anything you throw at it pretty well.
And rom development is still strong.
And I don't think Samsung became the top smartphone manufacturer for nothing.
