Best Rom for i9505? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What rom would you guys suggest is the fastest and best performing with no bugs or crashes? I don't care about customization really. I just prefer stock android or cyanogenmod, no touchwiz. Thank you for your help! :]

Danvdh's GPE ROM, TeamUB ROM, or AICP. Which is best is a matter of preference and all people can give are opinions.

Danvdh's GPE ROM or GPE by jamal for me

Dan's GPE is very stable indeed. But CM12 or CM12.1 roms (at leas the ones I tried) feel a bit snappier.
Another disadvantage if Dan's GPE is that there is no ktoonsez kernel for it. It's the best kernel in my opinion.
The only other roms I have used are CM12 optimzed builds and SaberMod CM12 and CM12.1. Those should be the best performing since they are optimized. And optimized should mean better performance.
If you're gonna flash an AOSP rom then I recommend using ktoonsez kernel.

It depends on the settings you use and kernel.
With Hulk kernel I don't have any music skips. But I also have an class 10 SD card and that should also make a difference.

[Q] Deciding between a few Lollipop ROMs. Suggestions / user experience?

Currently running CM12, but I've been thinking between XenonHD, RastaPop, Euphoria OS, Terminus and LiquidSmooth.
Any experience about these ROMs? Most of these seem pretty same if you look at the features. But does some of these stand out?
Just start flashing and find out what you like the best.
sent with my Nexus 4.
As much as I hate CM I quite like the xenon.
Very stable and doesn't require too much micro management.
Well I had to install better battery stats but my battery problems might be down to a dodgy app.
I haven't tried them all but so far my favorite is my setup now...boostpop 2.7 with Franco sabermod kernel, overclocked to 1.7ghz max 192mhz minimum. Rro layers running giving the black look I liked on slimkat. It's as fast as I've ever felt this phone.
I've tried liquidsmooth v4 and a recent paranoid android and cm12 I think. Those are the only recent LP ROMs I've tried.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Free mobile app
Frank Rom and Rastapop both great 5'0'2 Roms with all latest optimizations like RRO etc

[Q] I just got my S4. What should I do?

I just got my S4 (GT-I9505) from my dad. I'm really excited but I don't know where to start. What should I do first now that I have it? Should I root it first? What is the best Rom and Kernel for this device? Any advice would be much appreciated!
If I were you I will perform a factory reset first This model has many ROMs, you may try each of them and find out your favorite one.:cyclops:

I have i9505 though. I don't think it's compatible?
Once you're rooted and running custom recovery you can multiboot it, (run multiple custom Roms) all information is in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2864469
Alucard's kernel should give you good perfomance.
Or Hulk kernel. With hulk you can overclock the up to 2.1 Ghz. But I feel like Alucard gives you better performance (when running 1.9).
As for the roms, they are all pretty much the same.
I've tried Sabermod CM12.1, Resurrection Remix, AICP 9, FlexOS.
They pretty much have the same performance (judging by the UI speed).
Haven't tried the SlimLP builds yet.
I also tend to return to the GPE rom. It's 5.0.1 though.
The reason I keep coming back to GPE is that I have pretty much no problems with it. Very stable.
In benchmarks you will get the same score on all roms. I got an average of ~32000 on all the above mentioned roms.
So, in the end it will come down to how the rom feels (fast ans smooth or slow and laggy) to the user.

Any experience with CyanogenMod? When I click the ROM tab, CyanogenMod is listed first so I'm thinking that it is the most popular right now. Do you have any info on how good or how stable the mod is?
Also, quick question. When flashing a rom, I know that I wipe the cache and dalvik cache before flashing. But should I also wipe these 2 after wiping?

Not necessary but yo can
ooer! woa there cowboy! It's new. Take your time to explore and understand how it all works then once you get that feeling that you're sure this or that could be better that's the moment when you can think about rom flashing.
I loved the phone when I got it. I then thought hey, I'll flash cyanogen on it. That worked well for a time (and they're getting better and better with each version).
I then went a while with a danvdh's excellent google edition rom (imho a very good compromise for the minimalist).
I finally came full circle back to a TW based rom (for info the Imperium v9) with which I am most happy.
Through all that I discovered that what I wanted most was an excellent camera, good video player and good battery life, all of which come included in TW roms.
The Imperium or other roms bring nice tweaks and optimisations all of which came from that famous itch that every geek has for making things that bit better.

In bechmarks both roms give the same scores. So there isn't much to say about that. CM does feel a bit faster in my opinion. But I don't know if it offers any noticeable advantage. Unless you're willing to run android 5.0 and ktoonsez kernel (which offers CPU and GPU overclock and Is only available for CM).

What is the fastest ROM out there for D802?

Hi,
I went through several ROMs with my G2, and the only one fast enough so far (with LP) was BlissPop. But the latest builds of BlissPop have random reboots in them, and I can not afford to wait with a useless phone. My phone performs fine in benchmarks, but the feeling and overall snappiness is just trash with most ROMs, because I do a lot of multitasking. I tried these ROMs, and they were not sufficiently fast enough:
Stock LG LP
Stock LG LP + Dorimanx Kernel (tried all the profiles)
CloudyG3
Ressurection Remix
SlimLP
No name 420 DPI
CM 12.1 Official
Maybe I should switch back to KK, before BlissPop developers solve the issues? Or is there a fast LP ROM I did not try yet? And if so, which one?
Thank you for your answers in advance.
Cloudy was getting way too laggy for me too, so I switched back to CM12.1 a few days ago and now I love my phone again. I did a lot of multitasking too, Chrome and Messenger at the same time would cause issues on Cloudy, but no problem on CM. Battery lasts longer too.
I found it, I'll take a look, thanks. But more tips are welcome.
You should try Xceed kernel immediately!
Recommended stock based rom+ xceed kernel .. It will make you phone like Lamborghini
Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk
temasek's unofficial cm build is really fast and you will get 5 hours+ sot with ultra speed without any kernel and customizations. just install and use
Stock LP from + dorimanx gives me 6 hrs SOT and its pretty fast
That is what I do not understand. How? How does it work for you, but does not work for me as well? Stock LP and CloudyG3 were HORRIBLE with Dorimanx! How is it even possible?

Yeah, Lollipop Cloudy is horrible with dorimanx. But pretty good (imo best g2 experience) on stock kernel, but i haven't tried xceed yet. Dorimanx was fast and stable on kitkat, now it isn't. It has horrible slowdowns.
Btw. I broke my g2 today
have you tried tesla or tipsy. they were fster on my s2. then the rest..
The fastest rom is stock CM.
Try cm12.1 unofficial temasek realy amazing and very very good battery life
I'm trying out stock CM 12.1 and it isn't bad, but it is definitively slower than BlissPop, so, is temasek's build faster?

Yes give it a try u will love it
SRKG2-3-00_droidth_20151004.
+ Xceed
Can't blame if you want LG experience. Working just great for me.
I know exactly what you mean. The multitasking performance and ram management of G2 stock roms is horrible - doesn't matter which one and which kernel you use.
No comparison to HTC Sense for example.
With CM12.1 and BlissPop you already have the cherry picks.

how long stay the battery ?
So I tried the official CM 12.1 and it was no better than the others. Heavy multitasking is impossible (Messenger, Firefox, CG Transit, Apex, Google Play Music + Viper and Opera just can not run at the same time, and the could in BlissPop).
I'll give a try to the unofficial temaseks build, but I doubt it.
Aosp is obvious faster than stock, but u are daying goodbye to a good camera, a good voice recorder, probay u are going to have a lower sound volume/quality (happened to me with aosp roms) also qrremote and a lot of lg goodies,
Since i use a lot the camera and i sing with guitar and voice, i need a good camera and a good voice recorder, so i stay with cloudy g3.3
It isnt that slow imho, just slower than aosp, this doesnt mean slow itself, stable no reboots no problems and the battery last a lot, equal or better than aosp

Stock lg lollipop gives better performance than custom roms based on stock?

Hi guys. Just wondering something, I'm really not new to the flashing scene, I have been flashing roms since I got my Samsung nexus s some years ago and had a lot of devices. For some reason, on my d802, every custom rom I try based on stock lollipop from LG (cloudy 3.3, no name rom, etc) they all lag significantly more than stock lg lollipop(the flashable one on d802 section, v30f). I have always assumed that custom roms gave me better performance so I didn't even bother to try stock lg lollipop. But I flashed it yesterday and it is a lot better than any custom rom(except CM). And I didn't even flash any kernel, it has stock kernel. It seems that custom roms based on lollipop mess something up on my phone and get lower performance. And I'm flashing the proper files(bootstacks and such). Anyone noticed the same?
Where can I find this stock Lp that you mention?
I believe LG haven't launched the update for d-805.
About ROM, i'm using BlissPop, CM based and it's great. Maybe you can compare with this stock one.
You might want to try AICP

anyway, CM and blisspop and CM based roms are the smoothest android experience for sure, i was using cm 12.1, but unfortunately the sound is quite bad, as well as the camera. If you want a fluid UI without any lags and dont care about sound quality and camera, CM is the way to go.
What surprised me was that this flashable stock rom had better performance than custom roms like cloudy and no name rom

not really, i have tried miui too and it lags...the best way to see it other that normal usage is scrolling on the facebook app. Only CM roms are completely smooth. The 2nd best for me is actually stock LG lollipop. I only use it because CM still has bugs. Cloudy and no name rom lag even more than stock LG.

Got your idea, compare only between Stock based roms.
Having a better performance with all the lg bloatware it's really strange, never heard about it on any phone.
Buuut, if it's working better than the others, let's use only the stock one f:highfive:

i dont know why, but its not placebo for me. Its very noticeable...Maybe it has to do with the porting from lg g3(like cloudy rom). I recently read dorimanx complaining about users who use his kernel on g3 ported roms, which causes some issues with some apps, causing users to have freezes. He specifically said his kernel is for stock rom only(not ports, even though it works on ports). Maybe it has something to do with that, i dont know...

i think of the 4.0 uix. thats why it lags i think ihad the fastest in stock rom not aosp, was 30f debloated. but mine the signal bars will change from full bar to 2-3 bars never dropped signal but it wasnt stable. when i first installed cloudy i had signal drops, then flashed 30f baseband, and full bars. on my d800.i wanted to keep using stock but could not find an answer to the signal bar changing constantly whn other roms ans same flashed band used 30f work ok but not on this particular rom. d8oo 30f slim. but maybe cause they add the 4.0 uix.

I never flashed a kernel, so can't affirm this is the issue.
But if the developer of the stock based don't recommend a kernel... we can assume you don't need a different one to have all the potential of the rom.

Stock sammy ROM gives the best battery life and performance in games. However, stock ROM may experience slowdowns over time which may be resolved with a clean flash. If you want AOSP, Resurrection Remix is a good choice, but you will have to sacrifice some in-game performance and camera quality.
As for which kernel, it is generally best to stay on the included kernel unless you absolutely need features like fast USB charge and sound modifications.

Other than nolimits, the ROMs you've mentioned are quite dated. For official stock ROM, download the unbranded firmware from sammobile or from updato. Samsung has stopped updating their firmware so it is highly likely that ROMs based on stock will be discontinued as well.
Flash using ODIN.

Pretty much all of the ROMs I've mentioned previously are the best in my experience. With the AOSP ROMs, ensure you have the latest bootloader and baseband otherwise fingerprint sensor will be disabled.
