Ok my fellow nexus one lovers... I had a Nexus one for about a month, and upon first opening the phone, there was dust, so I immediately got a replacement. I thought it was cool that next day when I show up at work, they had sent me my replacement so I was quite suprised on the service. Anyways, the phone was great, loved every aspect EXCEPT when texting, it wouldn't register my delete, and instead, a stupid smiley... in a way, I was getting pissed cause google was "smiling" at me when I was trying to do something else.
So my question is, I really want to go back, or wait for the HD2, but I feel the nexus is a better fit, especially when I use almost all the google features... but the texting/screen issue is a factor... I know people all over have this issue, and there isn't a resolution yet (that I've found) so what do I do? Wait? Suck it up and get it again? What are your suggestions???

It took me 3 phones to get all my issues fixed. If you're worried about fast customer service, get a phone that is supported directly by a carrier (Mytouch3g, droid, etc).
I have a good friend who just got a droid after being a huge crackberry fan. He loves it.
The nexus one is a pilot program so there will be growing pains to endure.
In terms of the touch issues watch your other fingers around the edge of the touch screen. I notice whenever my screen goes wonky a finger that shouldn't be touching the screen is.
Keep in mind you can get other keyboards than the stock that are agruably better anyway.
Good luck and thanks for supporting Android.
Didnt realize you were talking about screen issues, since using Cyanogen I havent expierenced them, but I dont know if they've been fixed for regular users.
hmm I didn't pay any attention to it after I rooted/flashed cyanogen... guess I'm going to have to think about this one a little bit. but overall I loved it. Do you guys think it will be fixed.... someday?
Well its an issue that theyve been made well aware of on their support forums so I would assume theyre working on a solution, I dont know why they wouldnt be.
just curious, but are you using the stock keyboard?
No, im using better keyboard right now and use smart keyboard and swype from time to time, just like to mix things up every once in a while, I type so fast on this thing now that smart keyboard and better keyboard have pretty much made swype useless to me. Smart Keyboard is free in the market and Better Keyboard is like 2 bucks and is pretty similar but is theme-able which I like. I also dont use auto correct or suggestions or any of that stuff so I dont know how they work for those.

Smart Keyboard and Better Keyboard are really just the stock keyboard with minor differences and more customization (but nothing innovational), if you really want to enjoy your typing experience - I suggest installing the HTC_IME, the typing creation cooked up by HTC for their Sense UI phones.
Nothing really beats it, I don't see how anything could. Swype though, is lovely.
I still feel like I type faster on smart or better keyboard, it could be I just havent gotten used to HTC IME yet, i used it all the time on my mytouch but ive just gotten so use to these keyboards that I dont even have to look to type, like typing this whole thing for example. I guess in the end its all just personal preference.
whats the "htc ime" ? link? seems interesting

While I like the phone, love the SAMOLED and the new S-Pen features, I have many complaints about it:
The Touchwiz looks like the one I had on my old Galaxy S, not like that on my Galaxy Tab2 (which is excellent). Why the hell did they put only four rows of icons? Sometimes it looks like a visually-impaired option. I set the font to really small and still is quite big. Looks like this has even less personalization options than the tab2. Meh. I don't mind the huge size, really, but this looks like it's an enlarged phone. The extra real estate is not used effectively.
GPS is giving me many disappointements. Jumps next to building and can't track properly in trams and public transport. Again, on Tab2 it was excellent.
I am not a fearful modder, but no excellent rom is out and I will probably lose some of the s-pen features.
I am skeptical, after the bad experience with the Galaxy S I would like a phone where the hardware (i.e. GPS) actually WORKS. I shelled out some 500euros+ for this, I don't expect to see GPS jumps with ingress.
I am seriously contemplating selling it and getting an S4 or other good phone with SAMOLED, giving up the s-pen (which is more a treat than a must).
I would like to hear some opinion from other users, if you share the same feelings about it.
Thanks
Cheers
You're basing this off something you can replace in two clicks? Do you have any idea how ridiculous that is?
Ditch Touchwiz. Get Apex or Nova. Problem solved.
Agree with shadow.. install nova and add more dock icons. . If you still feel it looks to much like a "phone"(LOL surprise it's supposed to be a phone) you can change the dpi, I have dpi set to 320 and everything looks great

But do I keep S-Pen functions then?
Because if I then lose the s-pen, what's the point of keeping the Note 3 vs S4? Beside 1 GB more of ram that is...

Regarding "Phone"
Perhaps I was not expressing myself clearly enough. I am comparing to the Tab2 (7", so not so far actually), which I have and it's great in every aspect on stock. I see the design effore there. Here, it looks just a rescaling of a normal 4" screen "Phone" rom. (not Phablet, as the note should be, if you want)

S-pen functions are not dependent on the launcher. When people here say something is based on touchwiz, it just means that whatever function they're referring to is based on the touchwiz framework present in the rom, not actually using the TW launcher. I use Nova launcher & my s-pen functions are fully intact. You would only lose s-pen functionality if you flashed an AOSP/CM rom.

You can change the screen DPI to make it look more like a "phablet", but you'll need to be rooted because the apps that can achieve this need root access to work.

All Spen functions are intact. They're not part of the launcher, they are their own apps on top of a launcher.

First thing I did was replacing the launcher. I got so used to a non stock one that this was the first To do for me. Why on earth would I want any company to tell me what I can do with a product I just dropped 700€ for?
After 3 days I really missed the volume rocker to skip tracks option. So a root was what was next. You can tweak your phone to whatever you need it to be. And if you look at Samsungs touchwiz, it's for sure just a blown up UI of a phone. Well, like others already stated, it is a phone. My phone is actually a library, magazine reader, gaming machine, on the go multi language translator, camera (the best camera you can have is the one you have on hand when a good opportunity arises), and so much more. I'd actually go so far to say that my phone is an awesome pocket PC with which I can place phone calls (maybe 2-5% of whatever I use it for the rest of the time).
Did I say that it makes an awesome music player for in car use when you use tasker to automate things like gps for speed based volume setting, skipping songs with volume rocker (eyes free operation)....
Oh, sorry. i got carried away. This phone so far provides the best GPS I had so far. What's the issue with yours?

On Apex Launcher now. MUUUUUUUUUUCH better, like, another planet. Makes me not wanna sell the phone just yet. I still have to investigate the unroot/unKnox thing before rooting. I still want to keep the warranty for a month-ish. Again, coming from a satisfactory stock Tab2 7" I was hoping not to have to root, but still, if everything works the only thing becomes the GPS.

My feeling is that they screwed up the antenna again, like in the Galaxy S. I have a Tab2 7"and it has great accuracy everywhere. In particular, while on public transport (trams) it follows me readily. This Note 3, today lost lock several times on the tram and was always jumping around. A fiend with S4 has perfect lock on trams. Yesterday the GPS was also jumping on the open, I was simply walking next to a big building. (I play Ingress)
In the GPS thread someone said that they sent in the phone for repairs and they got a better GPS afterwards, but I am skeptical, ppl were saying that also for the first SGS, which eventually, just had a crappy GPS antenna. What's your experience>?

My razr HD took ages to get a lock. Never had the issue so far with my N3, but then, I didn't use it for navigation so far. Just speed based volume bc my current car is lacking this feature.
For my razr HD I used GPS test, an app from play store. Go to settings and try "update agps". This brought the fix time down on my razr HD. Although it took ages when I started the feature while moving. It's just so much better on my N3. Maybe your unit is faulty. Have some one with another N3 to see if there's a difference? Would be a good try. Although, most people I know just find the note much too big. So in my circles, there wouldn't be a second N3 to verify. Maybe a carrier or dealer?

The locking is indeed fast. Maybe faster than the Tab2. But then the accuracy sucks. It will be hard to explain or prove that it it a malfunction, I don't know if I would get a really better functioning one. Here in Switzerland they're not so big on customer support, but I suppose I could try. Maybe I could try writing to Samsung or so. :/ I will anyway check the accuracy with the GPS test asap.
I put nova launcher on my phones first thing when I get them. Much better than stock overlay. Also, my first note 3 had a bad gps antenna and wouldn't even lock on to any satellites. The new one locks on quick but I haven't tested nav yet.
Sent from my SM-N900V using xda app-developers app
With Apex Launcher and Holo Locker, the phone is starting to look OK.
I still regret that I can't have the security pattern on with the custom lock. (all the other lockers I've found with security make it a two-steps unlock [custom unlock -> stock pattern unlock], which I find annoying, if you know otherwise please let me know)
GPS
Looks like there is an issue here, but is related to the compass rather than the GPS antenna. Yesterday I calibrated the compass and then I had perfect reception in trams, then today suddenly it lost lock, the compass was pointing wrong, and the GPS Test told me 1 satellite in sight for like 5 minutes, at which point it snapped back into a correct view, had 21 satellites in sight and locked quickly, with fair precision.
I will still experiment more and perhaps post a screenshot. Any suggestion is gladly welcomed.
Well after a week-ish I would say I am way past any doubt that this is a great device.
Regarding my initial Touchwiz perplexities, Apex Launcher solved it. I still would like to change the dpi in the menu, device, etc. But that's minor, now.
The GPS issue is also greatly reduced. Still, my Galaxy Tab 2 7" has WAY faster locking times and accuracy. I still think that the antenna is better, but it's also a larger device. It happened already with Ingress that I was sitting in a spot with friends, and nobody got a lock but me with the Tab 2. To mantain proper lock, it's important not to let the compass go crazy. Sometime it's pointing in a bad direction, then it's enough to rotate your wrist a couple of times and usually it switches back in place. Can't really whether this is software-fixable, but once you know it becomes a minor issue.
Beside, I am really starting to enjoy the S-Pen. Multitasking is great. The machine is simply -powerful-. Blazing fast in everything.
It's the fist time that stopping by an iPad test post I do NOT think "ok Apple suck but it definitively looks smoother than my android devices". On the contrary, it felt way more sluggish.
So, no, I won't sell it for the moment. I just hope that Samsung will make a reasonable software update within the next 6 months.
With the Tab2 7" they were doing a great job, I also bough it when JB got out and they did upgrade it after about 6 months, fixing most of the obvious TW shortcomings, and it's not even a flagship device.

Yes, losing lock and accuracy while in movement in places with non-optimal (but not bad) reception. At the same time, the compass would flicker and point in wrong directions.
Hey, everyone!
I, for one, am sitting on the fence with the decision on whether or not to buy the G4. Since there are so many threads talking about the various issues with the G4, I thought that I would ask those of you who don't have any issues. Let's balance the arguments so that more of us can decide on whether we want to buy the phone or not.
So... Who is perfectly happy with their phone and would you recommend it?
Yes i am pretty happy with this phone.. No touch issues for me 10 fingers are registering nicely.but sometimes 2 or 3 times out of 100 knockcodes says wrong but taps are registering i think its my fault that i enter knockcode incorretly.
Right now i m using lg keyboard and no lag at all..
Battery is seems ok to me i m using games skype fb viber intertnet browsing all day and i got 4 hours of screenon time with brightness level 75%.

By far the best phone I've ever purchased. Very happy with all aspects of the phone. I do no notice any missed touches or incorrect knock codes as long as I'm going at a reasonable speed. Everything works wonderfully. The camera is amazing and I am incredibly impressed with the OS. 100% satisfied here!
Me too. Best phone ever. Camera is amazing too

Absolutely zero issues. Perfect screen, touch is responsive, no heating up, no lag, camera takes gorgeous pictures.
I get occasional lag, but for all I know is it's an app (I'm a techie so I'd like to think all of my apps are legitimate but who knows).
No hardware issues, etc.
I voted "Yes" because I have some issues but those are so minor that I don't really care about them too much... It's a really great phone and I highly recommend it...
Great phone
My first post but I wanted to chime in on this thread. I have read this forum a lot since I am interested in root access. I feel like there is a vocal minority that hates the phone, primarily because of lack of root, and wanted to offer perspective from someone who's mostly a regular user.
I mostly love the phone. I previously had a Galaxy S4, and have had this for 3 weeks. There are many little things that make it overall a great piece of hardware.
- No buttons on the side. I can't tell you how much of a design improvement this. Never accidentally press anything, hold it how you want, put it in any clip-type mount, no issues. It takes about a day to get used to using the back controls and then it's joy.
- Phone feels great in your hand. It's the perfect size, shape and weight, and you can switch the on-screen navigation buttons so "back" is where I was used to it on the S4 (the right side). I never really felt comfortable holding the S4. Would often flip it out of my hand while trying to one-handed operate it.
- Beautiful big screen. The slight curve feels perfect in your pocket.
- The default launcher is actually very nice. Some nice little things like you can shove 7 across on the task bar and it will shrink the icons to fit them; good folders implementation; apps/widgets tabs. It's unintrusive and gets most stuff right.
- The IR blaster actually works.
- Mine is Verizon and annoyingly they disabled some features, but the only thing I really cared about I got back with a shortcuts (native phone number blacklist). And access Lock, vital.
- Shortcut to camera with volume-down button, nice. (And of course the camera is stunning)
- Battery life has been fantastic for me. I've gone two days on a single charge with moderate use. I don't keep the screen incredibly bright, though, this is definitely the biggest power sucker.
- No overheating issues. This was infuriating on the S4, I couldn't run Waze on a summer day without it literally shutting itself down half the time.
- And of course the whole reason I got this instead of an S6 in the first place... removable battery and my 128 gig of storage
I haven't had any touchscreen issues. I did install the OTA update which was pushed to my phone the same day I got it. (I hope I don't come to regret this w.r.t. root...)
So while I wish I could root it, the lack of root access isn't actually making my life miserable in any way. The only reason I rooted the S4 it was because of the lack of SD card write access under Kit Kat, and because Verizon pushed an update that actually broke the S4 causing random reboots which was fixable by removing Knox.
The SD card is not an issue with Lollipop. That said, once I had root access on the S4, of course I installed the Xposed Framework and played with stuff, like adding flashlight to my reboot menu (hey, this is already on the pulldown menu built into my G4!). But there is really nothing I couldn't live without.
So I'd love to be able to root this thing, but here's exactly what I am missing without root compared to the S4:
1. Full ad blocking (I can block over wifi with a proxy, so it's just an issue for cellular data)
2. Greenify that has native access to stop apps.
I have since just started using Greenify as my screen-off button and this is satisfactory (though I still see some apps like Skype that like to just resurrect themselves randomly, not much I can do here). The ad thing is not really that big a deal for me. I don't spend a ton of time reading ad-heavy web sites over cellular data, while I've certainly noticed ads a little more than I used to, it's not making me crazy. There's no dealbreaking functional issue such as I had with the S4 that makes me feel like I will cry if I never get root.
So there you have it, very happy LG G4 user.
I remember reading here on XDA a way to have adblock on cellular. I think you need to create a new APN and add a proxy to that APN I tried this on my s6 and it worked.

I did find a description of a method to do this while researching the issue, but I don't think it's possible on this phone. The methods described involved options that were not available. (No proxy config, can't create new cell data profile). I looked for shortcuts that might expose hidden options but couldn't find anything relevant.
Anyone elses g4 mistake a swipe up gesture for a tap when scrolling? Ill be scrolling xda or any other app and i swipe to go farther down and the phone will mistake it for a tap and click on reply or photo or something, pretty annoying but just wondering if anyone elses g4 does this
Sent from my LG-H811 using XDA Free mobile app
I have the H815 verison and besides double tap to wake sometimes needing 3-4 taps to wake up, the phone is flawless (as it should be for what I paid for it lol).
I voted no problem, but I have a small issue with double tap to wake.
It seems that occasionally the phone is locked and at the knock screen even when several Smart Unlock conditions are met (location, connected to bluetooth, etc.). If I double tap, it doesn't wake because it's still locked and expecting a knock code. This double tap wakes the phone, but doesn't always turn on the screen. The second double tap usually unlocks the phone, but occasionally it only wakes to the knock code screen. If I pause for a moment, it'll usually Smart Unlock and all is well.
I seem to have less of a problem with this if High Accuracy Location Mode is on. In GPS only mode this was happening all the time. Hopefully there will be an update to prioritize Bluetooth for Smart Unlock.

Wow. Thanks for the replies, people.
The poll results seem neck-and-neck right now but it's great to know that there are several people with no issues. Software issues can always be fixed so that's an upside.
Interesting how there are people that say they have no issues other than swipes not registering correctly or double tap doesn't work all the time or there is something often lagging....

It feels like a small software issue.
If you check out the horror stories in this forum, you'll see how people are really giving this phone bad press. Compared to that, a couple of taps not registering for Knock On doesn't seem so bad.
I got the priv and it's my third day using it and man do I miss my s5, most importantly TOUCHWIZ. I had Samsung since 2010 so it's so weird to me. But my s5 was getting really laggy and slow. I'm kinda regretting the priv because I miss switching batterys, I hate being connected to an outlet and I miss having root. Would the priv be able to get root at least? I wanted something new but this is not my cup of tea. If there's no root then I'll just end getting the note 4 with removable battery and SD slot.

I am also hoping there is a non tethered root method discovered for the Priv. I think there might be but I know it will be difficult. Many well known devs have already commented even before the Priv that root access will become more difficult with MM.
Just curious but what exactly are you missing about touchwiz? I have a several Samsung devices & one of the first things I like to do is rip touchwiz out & either leave functions disabled or replace it with an alternative solution. I just never liked the cost of lag that running pure stock left you with.
If you let us know specifically what your missing we may be able to offer 3rd party solutions you might actually find superior to what you get with touchwiz.
I like the weather and clock all in one and how everything is more simple. This BlackBerry android is really complicated and boring. I never really liked stock Android, Nexus and so on.

The weather and clock combo is a simple fix. You can take your pick of hundreds of options in the PlayStore.
The simple maybe a bit harder. Samsung really did dumb things down on their devices. (apple of Android)

Not sure what you're trying to communicate here but I especially love the fact that BlackBerry is actively trying to bring the best they have in smartphone tech to the Android platform.
I don't find it complicated at all. In fact I find out exactly the opposite. The shortcuts they add to the launcher & keyboard alone have saved me tremendous amounts of time. I admit I send allot of emails & text messages but I actually like to work on my phone [emoji1]
I think you hit it in the spot when you pointed out that you never really liked stock Android which is not really a BlackBerry thing. Sure they could have done more to customize the interface like Samsung did with Touchwiz but until the Note 5 came out I really hated how slow & laggy Touchwiz made my past Samsung phones. It made my a Note 4 upgrade to lollipop so slow I had to wipe the phone & go back to kitkat.
I'd also recommend getting Chronos widgets from the Playstore. They have a great time, date, calendar combo widget.
Don't get me wrong because I think the Priv is far from perfect. I would have really preferred the following items
* removable battery
* fingerprint scanner
* DTek software that could actually block application permissions so that I have total control over my personal info
* more control over the launcher functions like the bottom screen gestures
* more control over the edge screen options & functionality
* more control over the productivity tools
* Developer Edition Priv hardware with unlocked bootloader & root access so XDA can help fix the things preventing the Priv from being the must-have smartphone device it can be!
* the rest of the missing BB7.1 & BB10 missing features & gestures [emoji1]

Nvm youre right, Im starting to get used to this phone but theres alot of stuff I have questions for. Do you know where the screen shots go because I can not find them on photos. I just really wish the phone had a removable battery and it wouldve been perfect but oh well I just ordered a Auckey portable charger and Auckey fast charger and Ima see how that goes. Also is there any way to leave the back, home and clear apps always up instead of it dissapearing?
I feel like this phone is going to be one good ass phone for awhile either way.

You can view screenshots through Photos. Click on the three lines at the top left and then you can change the view to device files. You'll then see your screenshots.
I don't think you can set the home and back buttons to always on which is probably a good thing the next time you go watch a video or some other action that might have those in your view.

Not sure what you mean here. Mine stays up unless I am in an app that does full screen mode like YouTube or the Gallery in full screen picture mode.

And even if you're in an app that's full screen, if you swipe up/in from the bottom of the device, the buttons appear again for use.

So far, it's a great improvement on all fronts, of particular note, the issue with multiple keypresses on the PKB has been resolved, so now I can truly touch type again at speed without fear.

I don't know of a way to do exactly what you're looking for but what I have done as a work around is use an app called All in One Gestures to setup gestures that I use to initiate a Home, Back, Last App navigations by swiping the edges & corners of the screen

Ah, I wasn't directing my comment at you, it was for the original person you responded to. It's a native Android function since... I think kitkat to do the swipe in from the bottom edge of the screen to bring up the softkeys whenever you're in fullscreen modes.
Hi
I love the note 4, and always regretted the upgrades I got, the note 4 was my swiss army knife and the hardware features really went down year on year.
So, I'm going to ditch my Note 20 Ultra and return to the Note 4.
But, like everyone I want the Holy Grail - a fast modern ROM that also has all sensors and functions working like UV sensor, barometer and IR blaster.
I'm working long hours with the health service on Covid projects and don't have time to eat never mind wade through the ROM section.
Is there such a thing, or is there a non-rooted way to pep the device up without hammering the battery life?
I say non-rooted as I have to keep some apps that detect root and so unless there's a truly reliable method of concealing it I need to keep away from the pleasures of root.
Thanks
Joe
had the afternoon off, I can't see a single custom rom with uv sensor support. I've tried 2and a manual install of the apk to use it but it doesn't work.
is stock the only thing i can use? any debloaters that are good?
Hya Joe Bongo. I have been on the quest as well for a ROM - not a PERFECT ROM - but PERFECT FOR ME ROM. I have been messing with CrDroid and straight up Lineage 17/18.
The good news is that I use the IR blaster all the time! In fact I have kept thru TB a static copy of the PEEL remote control app but also using aSmart Remote app. I find good sucess with both roms but CrDroid is a little bit more customizable but otherwise very similar. I am runing a Sprint N910P and really the only problems I am having is SMS over LTE and FitBit sync but can't be too critical becuase I think it is a 3rd party problem more than a ROM problem.
Let me know how your search goes!

Well I've looked some more and can't see anything that will let me use the UV sensor. This may be a fool's errand living in the UK cos the weather is so rubbish, but I wanted to make sure I could use all the toys on the phone.
I've gone back to a stock BTU rom on the 910F. It's definitely slower than Lineage and the other one I tried, but the UV sensor works. On the custom ROMs I tried the 3rd party UV app by moletag but it crashed so I figured that meant thre needed to be something in the ROM to enable its use.
Really frustrating, it looks like I might need some form of stripped out stock ROM or something to achieve my goal.

May I ask what you mean by UV sensor? I wasnt thinking and thought you meant the IR blaster but I am curious what or how the UV sensor is being used.
