From all the leaked screenshots we can see, android 5.0 looks exactly like the kitkat LG UI. We are not getting the pure, stock lollipop(like white drawer etc). So, if we are going to loose unlocked bootloader, do we really need it?
Nobody is forcing you to upgrade. If you don't like the theme LG is using then stick with what you're using now.

If I understand you right there is two questions in what you wrote:
1. is LG keeping their signature UI design in the upcoming upgrade Android 5.0?
Answer: yes because this is always how it has been and will continue to be, valid not only for LG. Exception of course Play editions for some makes. Pure Google/AOSP UI look without LG launcher/apps will always be via custom roms.
2. Will I loose my Bumb/unlocked bootloader if I take the official upgrade?
Answer: not sure that will work either, but ya one could loose ability to bump bootloader after flashing official update. As soon as the upgrade is official some stock rooted roms will pop up ready to be flashed. There is even a leaked android 5.0 around now

There's more, MUCH more, to 5.0 than just the UI. To be honest, the visual changes are actually secondary to the system changes as far as I am concerned. I'm far more interested in the power management updates, camera enhancements, etc... Material design is basically window dressing.

Why did you think LG s going to release a AOSP looking L ?
Most of what you see in stock is just the Lollipop Now Launcher, which is limited and to my eyes ugly as sin. All that white is just horrible.
Most of the rest in the G3 is similar to the same as stock. Either way ill be using Nova, so its fine.
They will be changing it a bit

[DEV][REF]How to add root support to LL boot.img
As long as you dont install the new bootloader, you can keep TWRP.
They figured out that the new boot.img could be bumped and flashed in the old bootloader.

This wasn't the case with the note 2. The update to 4.3 bootloader blocked going back to an earlier stock version of android.

Also, although @autoprime has confirmed the release of Android L for the D855 does not implement anti-rollback, this does not mean that other variants will not implement something to keep us from going back to previous software versions, then you may be stuck with Android L but no root or TWRP permanently

Prevent factory reset for short passwords in CryptKeeper
Since patterns and passwords can't be shorter than 4 elements, we shouldn't count them against attempts to unlock the device. If we do, we risk resetting the device due to stray input.

Yep.
Gah, 5.01 is out and I am still waiting for Lollipop on my LTE model. ?
I wasn't getting the OTA update for 5.0.1 but had already flashed 5.0 myself. Still running stock unrooted.
This AM I unlocked my bootloader which wipes the system. During the initial set up after wiping it updated me to 5.0.1 OTA.
Just a heads up.
I'm puzzled.
Even though I had the Google SystemUpdateService$Receiver disabled, I just received the OTA update for 5.0.1 on my 2013 N7.
My device is rooted. What will happen if I choose to install the update? Will I lose root? Will I have to reinstall my apps?
I'm quite satisfied with 4.4.4 and feel no real need to upgrade.
My N7 wifi still hasn't received plain old 5.0 and you guys are getting 5.0.1 already? ugh...

You won't get 5.0. You will get 5.0.1. They stopped 5.0 because of an issue, 5.0.1 is the official update. It will take weeks for everyone to get it.

Just curious, I hope chiefs here don't mind about this question, but I really want to know why would you guys downgrade from Lollipop to KitKat? What's the problem about the update?, what's the things that you don't like?, is the performance of the device affected in a bad way? Or what issues does the update has?
Thanks in advance! :good:
Why should update at the end?
What's new in the Lollipop which could be useful to users, that is the question!
I mean, if you do not know what is new and revolutionary, why take a chance? Curiosity about?
P.S. before we get to the process of updating, changelog for Android Lollipop for the Samsung Galaxy A5 with important changes, will be useful.

Unfortunately Samsung doesn't not provide change logs for firmware updates.
The reason why people are downgrading from KitKat to Lollipop is probably because of bad RAM management in Lollipop, buggy, not compatible with Xposed Framework, or perhaps not used to the new interface and prefers the KitKat interface instead.

In fact for me was like a NEED, because having these device with 4.4.4 was like odd. I'm truly happy with 5.0.2 but I have found a lot of people like complaining about this and looking for the downgrade.

Yeah, maybe. But honestly I found really fast and lag free my device with 5.0.2. The only thing I could complain is about 'iPhone style notifications' but there's always chance of 'cancelling' them, so it's pretty easy indeed

Just got the update. Don't know yet what's new.
Nothing visible so far, maybe some optimization and fix for the screen bug.
Only difference I can spot is that the network type (H/4G/LTE etc.) is now placed on the left of the reception bar instead of above it.

That didn't change for me though. I'm on E5803 Malaysian firmware. All I noticed was that the animations are faster and the apps are opening faster. That's it. Also no issues with auto brightness so far

I just upgraded too.
The default SMS app now has stickers(You actually have to download Sketch from the play store)
and there are some new quick share options at the popup menu that appears when you share a file.
Also, it says something about a revamped camera ui but I see nothing different....

I hope this fixes the wired and bluetooth audio stuttering.
In Lollipop you couldn't get system software updates OTA if you were rooted, but I just got a notification that this version is ready to install... I'm running rooted 32.1.A.1.163. Will I lose root if I install? Will it install at all? Thanks in advance if anyone knows.

I tried updating with root and it failed. I also want to know if root is possible with thia update.
I'm using a rooted phone myself - while I use the DRM key emulation I know OTA updates will most likely fail so I will perform the upgrade manually.
Would anyone please check the Android security patch level?
If you go to System Settings - About phone. One entry says "Android security patch level" which is February 1st on the .163 version. Did this one increase maybe?
If so, it would be worth the hassle with Flashtool and rerooting and such for me to upgrade.
Quite a few regions rolling the firmware out today.
Apparently has "bug fixes and improvements" and "improved handling of bluetooth connected devices".
hello
can we just install the OTA on a rooted phone?
or i will need to root the new kernel again?
There are reports that the new firmware works okay with the .224 kernel - so you could install the OTA and reflash old kernel to retain root. It is also possible to use Rootkernel to patch the new .253 kernel but this will break TWRP until it is updated
yea that wat i was reading,
i still have my .224 kernel ready so will be easier
but curious to know what change in the two kernels

I like dt2w and i want to use it but screen opening in my pocket, proximity check on dt2w not included in this update yet, this subject talked in sony forum and here but i think sony not listening users, i used samsung,lg and sony devices, i think Lg best about this because they are including user's customizations in the world with update.

You can go back by flashing the original firmware. You'll only have DRM issues which can be fixed/worked around by flashing a patched kernel.
