Z1 Lollipop and QX10/QX100 with PlayMemories Mobile, freezing? - Xperia Z1 General

Are anyone else using a QX-device with Z1? The performance wasn't good with KitKat to start with, but now with Lollipop it is almost not usable, the preview keeps freezing. Anyone with the same problems? Any solutions for making PlayMemories work better?

No connection between Xperia Z1 Android 5.0 and QX10 with PlayMemories Mobile
Hi,
Since upgrading my Xperia Z1 to Android 5.0 and PlayMemories Mobile 5.2.3 (PMM) I have not been able to establish a connection between the Z1 and my Sony QX10 lens. The QX10 is detected in PMM, but every connection attempt is eventually abandoned. Any suggestions of how to fix this will be gratefully received!
Additional comments:
a) I carried out the "upgrade" from Android 4.4 to 5.0 by installing Sony's update when it became available.
b) Since publishing my post above, I deinstalled and reinstalled PMM (v. 5.2.4), but it did not make any difference.
c) My language preference on my Z1 (model C6903) was set to German, but even after changing it to English (UK), the problem persists
d) As soon as PMM detects the QX10 lens, it tries to connect automatically, but after 30 sec. it gives up.

I have had problems when using NFC for first time connection. For me it has been faster using regular WiFi direct and enter the QX's passcode.

No problems for me, qx10 and z1 lollipop...

Did you just updated to LL or full wipe before?

Thank you, I understand from your comments that one should not rely on Sony's upgrade / full install routine, but needs to do a manual full wipe of the the Z1 and then a manual istall of LP - is that right?

Yes, even though sony is generous enough to not wipe our data mercilessly when doing software upgrade, but full wipe after backing up your important data is the best way to enjoy the upgrade experience

I am not sure about stock but all CM and AOSP roms seem to have no issues.

Thanks to all who replied to my post. The problem is now resolved. Instead of trying to connect to the QX10 lens via PMM, I allowed the Z1 to connect to the lens before opening PMM. That worked.

im new to Sony devices, coming from Samsung Galaxy S3. Is it ok to update OTA when rooted? Bootloader is still locked and im on stock rom. On sammy devices i recall some issues with accepting OTAs when rooted.

My Z is SIM free but I still have the bootloader locked!
Sent from my C6603
That's the thing, if the OTA update patches the exploit used to root it then you won't be able to re root. But as Rashkae said OTA updates seem to retain root. Worst case scenario, flash back to .350 with flashtool and root again

Update has a baseband and kernel update so don't expect it to come OTA.
You lose root after updating, but the current root exploit (for locked bootloaders) still works. Just re-root after updating
Re: new firmware arrived for xperia z c6603
So, any news from sony what's new in this update?
I assume it takes care of those sudden deaths... anything else?, cause i have this bug when i turn on the wifi, it continues to use 2g/3g network even it's connected to wifi.
It's not a big deal as i have to disable data before connecting to wifi(i'll rather have this than wifi dropouts. ), but still would like to get this fixed
Updated to .434 , I'm in Spain and OTA did'n find nothing, only with Companion.
.434 reloads again all GAPPS, Sony Boatware, Mc Affee, etc.
Same rooting files works in this one
Stamina fails again
Titanium Backup works fine, no restarts after deleting system apps

First observation: horrible Orange boot logo
Second observation: No significant differences.
1. Carrier name in notification bar
2. MASSIVE amount of Orange bloatware
3. A few new wallpapers and changed default theme lockscreen wallpapers.
Because of the low revision number (last number in version) I suspect this is a version with minor bugfixes and adjustments exclusively for Orange FR.
Not worth updating for, especially if you don't root since it really has a gigantic amount of unremovable bloatware.
New lockscreen default wallpaper for Amber theme:

Once again, no significant changes, probably Orange-specific.
I expect the next major update to arrive in October or November and it'll bring the new H2 system style (Z Ultra/Honami). After that we'll be updated to 4.3 near the end of 2013. (Personal estimates people!)

Hi.
I believe you can almost root it like you did with v.244.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2386405
[ how-to ]
Download the three files from the download section below
open FlashTool and flash the XperiaZ_C660X_KernelOnly_10.3.A.0.423_Generic_NL.ftf - 7.12 MB file, this is JUST the kernel of an older firmware which was rootable
now once flashing is done reboot device and connect to PC in usb debuggin mode
CLOSE FLASHTOOL <<< VVVIMP STEP
extract the file DooMLoRD_Easy-Rooting-Toolkit_v18_perf-event-exploit.zip to root directory on c:\
execute runme_ file corresponding to your OS on desktop PC, this will execute a SPECIAL version of my easy rooting toolkit <<< VVVIMP STEP
the above step is crucial! if you use any older version of the toolkit then IT WILL NOT WORK!
after rooting is over the device will restart
you can verify if device is rooted by checking for SuperSU app (it is the newest version)
once thats done now power down device and open FlashTool again
now flash XperiaZ_C660X_KernelOnly_10.3.1.A.0.244_BE.ftf - 7.17 MB file to get back to the true kernel for the firmware
thats it after flashing is done just disconnect and power on device and enjoy rooted phone!

Instead of using XperiaZ_C660X_KernelOnly_10.3.1.A.0.244_BE.tft you can make your own KernelOnly of the new ROM using FlashTool.
Thanks a lot mate, but I just reinstalled an old fw back to get the root access

Not necessary if you downloaded the full FTF of Ambroos. You can simply flash the original kernel again from that FTF (just exclude everything else and don't wipe anything).

You can't update through OTA anyway if you're already on a rooted phone. I'm also on NUT's rooted firmware and received the OTA notification and the update won't work due to root or custom recovery.
So what if I want to update?? Can I? (rooted xperia z1...)
Have also just got the update through, it's a very small update, kind of reluctant to update, but it's so small I can't see it removing root either way.

If you are rooted using NUT's package then you can update following this

Just clear the icon, it's not going to be installable if youre on a custom rom, so monx = no, i'm guessing most of the other rom's will be the same too.
Just go to settings / apps / all / update service and update centre and stop notifications.
Gets rid of it but obviously the update is still there.

So as I dig into this more...
Currently on 266, Customization 1294-9984 R5A and going to Software Update shows I'm up to date. But, if I go Settings, Diagnostics, it says "New Software Available" with a ⬇ to the right. I press that and it takes me to the Software Update screen that again says Software Up To Date.
My wife also has a Z3+ but hers is on 272 Customization 1294-9651 R11A

Check PCC.☺
anything about dual version?
Edit: oh I see it on xperifirm.., I'm working in my ftf cause my CN doesn't have update yet.... is good because I want to do a clean instalation anyways....
Got the update in india. The performance difference is too great. I finally got the smoothness i was craving for. And folks don't check via internal Software update it is not available via OTA as of now check via PC Companion app. It should be released internationally not region by region as far as i know.
Any improvement on battery life and heat issue?
Can't imagine my first summer with this phone

Just use xperifirm program and download the ROM from another country. I Will use the RU instead BR one. It's valid and legal. Not void you warranty.
