Yes it's but they don't support the versions available for us end users. Odin available here and there is a leak of the Samsung Odin which leaked some years ago and then developers have added a windows UI to it and made it available for us. No but I think it's the same here, some guy found a leaked Sony tool and then made a new one himself to suit the needs of us users. This is just my thoughts about Flashtool thought and not sure if it's true.
Edit: I had right, Sony is offering a Flashtool them self. http://developer.sonymobile.com/services/flash-tool/ so he/she didn't even need to get inspiration from a leaked one, but an official tool made by Sony.
Well you do it your way, but I'm offering this as a help to users that both want to unbrand or save their device from a semi brick.
But it's up to the user.

I don't know actually I guess that the root exploits that exist works on that version too and otherwise you could backup TA partition unlock bootloader, root with an su.zip then restore ta and wola a root that works on all versions and you'll still have locked bootloader and drm keys

does this also apply to me? I'm currently on .253 firmware, locked bootloader, root, CWM+TWRP dual recovery, navigation bar mod, frooze or deleted some bloatware apps.
Root will be lost I assume and the mod? Will the bloatware be back but everything else like apps, save games, pictures, music, settings be retained? Is there root yet for locked bootloader and .423 4.2.2. firmware?

I think we should leave all the discussion related to the new firmwares here I'm closing this, since the purpose has been achieved.
Hello all, my phone just recieved updates via PCC (I was previously on 4.2.2). I upgraded and found that the build number is also 423, however more smooth system, espicially the album lag seems to be fixed.
I provide you the ftf link of new .423 HongKong Firmware. This is not uploaded by me (damn speed), but a friend from another forum.
http://pan.baidu.com/share/link?shareid=3475709745&uk=4079996535
This link is from China and I am not sure about the speed.
According to some findings by Applo, it seems that the new release does not fix anything.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43292324
while other users find upgrading do fix the album issue. its strange, you can make a backup and try yourself. hope it works

Sorry for being off topic, but, for the love of God, it's LAG with no plural. Just like you wouldn't say two glasses of waters.
It's not a real firmware update, just an update of the customization. Your customization version will have changed from 1270-5695_R2B to 1270-5695_R3B. This just means that Sony has changed something to the bundled apps or the customized settings.
Some weeks ago, this happened to the 'Generic NL' customization too. After updating, the Box app was pre-installed.

You're welcome
The core firmware (basically everything except the bundled apps and the resource overlays) stays the same as long as the build number doesn't change. Only the parts that are specific to the 'Generic HK' customization can be changed by the update.
If you look at the update XML file for 'Generic HK', you'll see that the latest firmware image (for Sony PC Companion and Sony Update Service) is swVersion 10.3.A.0.423 with cdfVersion R3B, while the latest delta update (OTA update) is still swVersion 10.3.A.0.423 with cdfVersion R2B.
I just downloaded this FTF (Generic HK 10.3.A.0.423 R3B) and compared it to the previous version (Generic HK 10.3.A.0.423 R2B).
These are the only differences:
build.prop: 'ro.semc.version.cust_revision=R2B' changed to 'ro.semc.version.cust_revision=R3B'
vendor/overlay/android-res.apk
vendor/overlay/com.android.browser-res.apk
vendor/overlay/com.android.providers.partnerbookmarks-res.apk
vendor/overlay/com.android.providers.settings-res.apk
vendor/overlay/com.android.settings-res.apk
vendor/overlay/com.sonyericsson.capabilities-res.apk

vendor/overlay/com.sonyericsson.setupwizard-res.apk
vendor/overlay/com.sonyericsson.trackid-res.apk
vendor/overlay/com.sonyericsson.wappush-res.apk
Only some resource overlays have been changed, all the rest is exactly the same.

First observation: horrible Orange boot logo
Second observation: No significant differences.
1. Carrier name in notification bar
2. MASSIVE amount of Orange bloatware
3. A few new wallpapers and changed default theme lockscreen wallpapers.
Because of the low revision number (last number in version) I suspect this is a version with minor bugfixes and adjustments exclusively for Orange FR.
Not worth updating for, especially if you don't root since it really has a gigantic amount of unremovable bloatware.
New lockscreen default wallpaper for Amber theme:

Once again, no significant changes, probably Orange-specific.
I expect the next major update to arrive in October or November and it'll bring the new H2 system style (Z Ultra/Honami). After that we'll be updated to 4.3 near the end of 2013. (Personal estimates people!)

open FlashTool and flash the XperiaZ_C660X_KernelOnly_10.3.A.0.423_Generic_NL.ftf - 7.12 MB file, this is JUST the kernel of an older firmware which was rootable
now once flashing is done reboot device and connect to PC in usb debuggin mode
CLOSE FLASHTOOL <<< VVVIMP STEP
extract the file DooMLoRD_Easy-Rooting-Toolkit_v18_perf-event-exploit.zip to root directory on c:\
execute runme_ file corresponding to your OS on desktop PC, this will execute a SPECIAL version of my easy rooting toolkit <<< VVVIMP STEP
the above step is crucial! if you use any older version of the toolkit then IT WILL NOT WORK!
after rooting is over the device will restart
you can verify if device is rooted by checking for SuperSU app (it is the newest version)
once thats done now power down device and open FlashTool again
now flash XperiaZ_C660X_KernelOnly_10.3.1.A.0.244_BE.ftf - 7.17 MB file to get back to the true kernel for the firmware
thats it after flashing is done just disconnect and power on device and enjoy rooted phone!

Instead of using XperiaZ_C660X_KernelOnly_10.3.1.A.0.244_BE.tft you can make your own KernelOnly of the new ROM using FlashTool.
Thanks a lot mate, but I just reinstalled an old fw back to get the root access

Not necessary if you downloaded the full FTF of Ambroos. You can simply flash the original kernel again from that FTF (just exclude everything else and don't wipe anything).

I'm on a custom 4.3 ROM, but was thinking of trying this out anyway. How did you get your update? I'm not sure if I can use PCC with a custom ROM.
I tried the Sony Emma flashtool earlier but it only had the 4.1 (.344) version

It was through PCC mate. I had my tablet connected this morning with no update, so it's obviously only been out for an hour or so.
Just installed, and I'm actually rather enjoying it! Alot better than what screenshots have shown.

Thanks. I'll try Emma again soon. Ironic really - Emma is a Sony developer tool which is meant to give updates a bit sooner than the usual methods
For those of us that are on Cyanogen, is there any way of finding out if the FTF has any important firmware updates in there?
I can rename the .370 FTF to ZIP and see all the sin files, but the vast majority I am unsure about.
Otherwise, I can always nandroid and do it that way

Relock your BL or wait for a ftf.
The problem is not using a custom rom and update with pcc (the rom doesn't matter but the kernel yes), it's when your bl is unlocked you can't update via SUS/PCC no more.

Emma has the 4.2.2 version despite the fact is says 4.1.2. I used Emma and it worked fine for me, though I didn't get my correct region (I'm in Canada and it gave me a UK firmware)

Once the FTF is out and about is there a way of knowing what we need to flash (and perhaps how) to not affect our existing custom setup?

When you flash a ftf file with flashtool, deselect DATA in the wipe section (box in top right corner). That will preserve your data when you flash.

Ok, sounds like a good compromise
When someone uses PCC to download the firmware, is a local copy stored?
Just wondering what the chances of getting this file are!
I like everything is this update, except the recent apps tray. Swiping away should always be 'swipe across' not 'swipe up or down'.
Few new features might have been nice, but can't complain. At least it's arrived!
It also has the thumb keyboard!

Make sure you read the service information of the update and make sure it says 10.3.1.C.0.136. If it doesn't then its not 4.2.2.
