Hello
My wife's stock & unrooted S4 started to turn off when she returned for a vacation (she didn't use the network for 3 months; only wifi). From what she is saying and what I witnessed, it looks like an issue with the network : when she turned it on after a flight, it started to turn off itself after a minute. When she came home, I tested it and noticed the same issue. She wasn't getting any network signal however.
When I activated the wifi (don't think it's related but who knows), it started updating apps & everything and after a while, the network finally turned on and the phone stayed on for a full night. Phone calls & texting was working.
I thought it was settled but the phone turned off itself again after she got one of my message this morning; note that it's turning off without rebooting.
Is it a known issue ? Is there a fix or a test procedure I should go through ?
Phone is up to date.
Thanks !
My device: Samsung Galaxy S4 with 4.4.2 (Sprint)
My location: 60193
My issue:
1) In February I received the 4.4.2 OTA update for my Samsung Galaxy S4
2) After that and while in 60193 randomly but takes no more than one hour my phone will lose internet (3G and LTE), must restart the device to get the function back for a short period of time before having to restart again.
3) Also randomly but takes no more than one hour my phone will lose signal and will be unable to make a call, must restart the device to get the function back for a short period of time before having to restart again.
4) Additional information on making calls: phone will sometimes show signal and will just say dialing when making a call (indefinitely), when I press end it will freeze the dialing screen but you can still use the phone (just no internet or phone calls). Must restart the device to get the function back for a short period of time before having to restart again.
5) I have performed all trouble shooting options with Tech both in store on the phone.
6) I have hard reset phone.
7) I have exchanged phone.
8) Still experiencing the same issues.
9) When I am far away from 60193 I do not experience issues.
10) Sprint continues to give me a run around.
I can't post a link, but here is a post that details the run around: Go to the Sprint community forums and search "Samsung Galaxy S4 4.4.2 Network Issue" to see the run around I have received...
Can you help me???

They are working on the towers in your area. You will just have to be patient until they are done. Could be over a month. The behavior you are describing is definitely tower related.

The thing is... The whole senerio that I described is only happening to people that have an S4 and updated to the 4.4.2 with Sprint. So it is the area, but it is also connected to the Sprint S4 with the 4.4.2 update (no other phones are impacted). Thoughts?

I agree with cruise350. If you have tried a different phone, it's likely the towers in your area. FWIW, I am having similar troubles: dial a phone number, my dialer hangs; send text messages and they fail; dropped calls, etc, though I don't have to restart my phone. And, I'm on the original MDC stock ROM, 4.2.2, though rooted. I spent at least half an hour on the phone with tech support yesterday. She had me do ##72786# which initiated a fresh hands-free activation, updated my profile and PRL (which didn't change). Then she started looking at the towers in my area of Minneapolis, and said Sprint was working on 3 of them. Hopefully, they'll be fixed sometime in April. The whole metro area is a mess. Sprint has been promising us LTE for months, but when driving around, a lot of us experience dropped calls, and failed calls. Sometimes you can't even get 3G, though you wouldn't realize it unless you're running an app that will tell you what your signal is. I use Signal Check lite, Advanced Signal, Network Signal Info, and Sensorly, if you're interested. Sometimes I'll actually get a 4G signal. I consider that a blessing. I mostly turn on Wifi when home, otherwise I might not have any data at all. I'm staying with Sprint only because of unlimited data. I'm not a huge user of data. I don't stream stuff very often. But even so, I've used close to a GB of data in 3 weeks. I'd hate to be with a carrier that has a 2GB limit or that slows you to 1X is you go over a their "limit."
Hey yall, Recently got my new s5 from t-mobile. SM-G900T. i love this phone, but i have one issue that is very very annoying. At complete random it will say 4g or 4g lte <depending on where im at in my town>. i will show almost full bars but completely loose cell and data reception. unable to load web pages, and unable to make calls. it normally takes a power off let sit and turn on to fix. but that can last anywhere from 5 minutes to 3 days.. stayed in a hotel with Full lte. my S4 worked perfectly in the exact same spot. my S5 constantly droped out and would not load anything or call anyone untill i reset. all apps are the same thats on my s4. wifi seems to work when the phone network drops.. Has anyone else experienced this? its highly annoying and irritating. no error messages other then <you are not online> even tho my lte says full signal. <put my sim in my s4 to see it work perfectly in same area>
My ATT S4 broke (just went dead and could no longer be started up despite trying different batteries--I hadn't change/flash anything. If I take off the battery and plug it in, on occasion it would show the bootloader for a few seconds but shutdown right after). Anyway, I have a T-Mobile international i9500 version lying around. I installed LineageOS on it and put in my SIM card. Data works (but no LTE because i9500 doesn't support it) and everything is fine, except the time/timezone is off by a few hours and is wonky.
On my ATT S4, I've always enabled using network time and network time zone without issues. I want to use these settings on the T-Mobile version as well for time accuracy and auto-account for daylight savings (does disabling network time and manually choosing the appropriate time zone also auto-account for daylight savings)?
If I enable both network time and time zones, it will most likely result in the time off by a few hours. Even if it's initially correct (which is rarely), it appears to change back to being off by a few hours. I also tried restarting the phone. I wish I'm getting consistent results--only thing that is consistent is that the time/timezone is off.
I'm not sure if this has to do with APN settings and/or ATT SIM card that works with LTE and is now having trouble on a phone that doesn't have LTE.
Any help is much appreciated.
Alright guys, I am done with this. I am at unlocked international/UAE S10+ (SM-G975F on Exynos) which is kept uptades as soon as OTA comes out. Now I am on Build PPR1.180610.011.G975SFXXSASH1, baseband version G975FXXU3ASG8. Sometimes (like 2-4 times per day!!) I got this issue, where my signal is lost, and network gets disconnected (Screen 1 & 2). At the same time, for comparison, my iPad LTE is still connected, without any network issue (screen 3). iPad uses same carrier as SIM 2, SIM 1 is different, but as you can see, both are disconnected. Once I turn on & off the airplane mode - everything comes back to normal just in a second (screen 4). I tried wiping cache, wiping network settings, but it's not helping! The issue is, that once it's disconnected I have no idea how long it keeps this way, and nobody can call me during that time, that pisses me off. It seems like a software issue to me?
