lollipop update stopped picture texts - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Sprint note 3 that is on page plus. The phone is non rooted but encrypted. A week ago I did the lollipop (5.0) update and it has caused my phone to stop sending or receiving picture text messages.
Andriod messenger will crash straight right after I click on it. I have cleared its data/cache and have reset app prefs with no luck.
The other stock app "Messages" will work but will fail to send or download pictures.
I have tried a 3rd party messaging app but would really like to keep one of the stocks ones. Does anyone know any solutions?

+1

Backup everything and wipe data factory reset with stock recovery. Probably it will fix.

I hoping someone else has problem, and has a solution, I like this firmware and don't really wanna flash again and have to restore all my apps.

Has no one else had this problem since upgrading?
I have JPU (but in the form of darky's rom v5.2) and the phone rings fine, so I'm not sure if the problem lies in the jpu rom (but maybe it was a bug that darky fixed in the rom, not sure). Unfortunately, I don't know how one would solve this without flashing, but if you are gonna flash, then I really recommend darky's rom, it's one of the best out there atm.
I flashed the low level package with ODIN and phone calls have been fine. Actually asked someone to call me to make sure lol, been a quiet weekend....

I can only guess you have a bad app or you have old settings left from other firmware.
Its nothing wrong with jpu firmware.
**Using my own JPU kernel, z4mod, 339MB Ram and ext2 filesystem**
I hope you are not using setcpu .. i had this kind of problem when using secpu ..
Well I've re-flashed now, and didn't restore system data and everything is great now.
P.S. anyone know how to stop 2 notifications every time I get a message, one comes through Handscent and one through the the standard messaging app.

That sounds like it's something that you have to change with your provider. I am with 3 aus and switched off the option to be sms reminded every missed call and it's unnecessary especially seeing as though the phone has that functionality and if you have voice mail you should be sweet to go. Good luck!

You need to go to the stock samsung Messaging app, then press Menu button to go into Settings, and scroll all the way down to 'Notification Settings' and untick the Notifications option. Now you should only receive it through Handcent only.
My friend had the same problem.
Here is the solution:
1, flash XXJPU
2, do a factory reset and wipe data + cache from recovery menu
3, do not restore system apps from titanium backup, just the 3rd party softwares.
That's all, the phone app will work.
The problem is, the old phone app leaves some cache and other crap and the new phone app doesn't works. That's way the solution is factory reset and wipe data + cache.
I hope it helps you. You do not need to flash again the phone, etc. Just do what I wrote.
Not a FW problem
Hi, this happend to me with XFJP7 FW. It started after I did several things:
1) did fix permissions in CWM
2) tried stock lockscreen (didn't work the several times, but finally worked)
3) restore with TitaniumBackup
I had backup of /system/framework directory, but restoring it didn't help. I ended up with flashing again with selective restore. Didn't try stock lockscreen nor fix permissions yet.
HTH
Mody
Probably same source here which also causes the "No-Vibration-Issue".
In most cases this is being caused by using a Lockscreen-/ Extended Power Menu-/ Circle-Battery-Mod that wasn't originally build and modified especially for your firmware. There's only a limited amount of ressources available for the system.
In some cases they first -seem- to work fine.
But in the backgound they (mostly) disable or block other functions because your new firmware wants to use the same registers or adresses (which the "wrong Mod" uses) for other os-functions.
In the end, I just re-flashed and only restored apps instead of system data + apps and now its working fine. Bingo!
When I receive a call, first the lockscreen shows up on my screen (instantly) for like a second and then it changes and I can answer the call. I have stock android lockscreen and 2.2.1. Do you think I have the same problem as others here or is this a different one?

Samsung Galaxy SMS Notification

Hi
I have a Samsung Galaxy S i9000 running 2.2 and just did a factory reset on the handset as I had an issue with the screen lock.
That has all been fixed with the reset but now everytime i receive an SMS I receive the sms notification in the top bar with another notification saying there is a new msg. This will not go away unless u clear it every time which is quite annoying. Anyone had the same problem and know how to fix it?
Cheers!
May be you've installed more than one messaging apps in your mobile like handcent sms/chop sms. You can disable that notification in the settings of each messaging app installed.

flash your rom back. will solve the problem
yehs thats what i've been told to do, flash the rom back and it should work fine. being the noob i am would you be able to point me in the right direction or to a link with instructions on how to flash the phone and which rom would be suitable for me?
Last time I attempted something like this I bricked the phone >,<
Cheers
Before you flash do a factory reset after deleting any SMS apps then reinstall them .

By any chance do you have a proxy set on your APN's? Jot it down and erase it, including the port number.
If you have normal internet working - then it must be a problem APN-wise.
You can isolate it down to the hosts file, but if you use apps like Adfree or ad blocking software, then it really eliminates it down to your APN settings. For ad blocking software to work, proxy and port number must be removed. Try placing a proxy back if it's gone.
Thanks for the answer.
I have no clue what to do reading and rereading your post...
It's too technical
Update
This happens only when i press the refresh button on the widget. And only on mobile data.
Solved by wipe data.
However this wiped all sdcard contents
Really bad.
The wipe data also fixed a problem I had with delivery reports not working.
Although enabled both on stock app and gosms.
But but but...
...after some days the delivery reports again stopped working.
So please I have read one million posts about this delivery report issue.
Can you help and suggest any fixes?
Thanks
I also have the problem with the SMS delivery report.
Still don't know how to fix?
No luck no fix yet.
What device you have?
Android version?
I have gosms and mightytext apps that may be messing
Do you have any of those apps?
Only by diagnosis we may reach something
My device is N9005, stock 4.3.
I don't have GoSMS nor mightytext app, but I have installed HushSMS and also the its Xposed module.
I'm not sure if it may cause the 'SMS delivery report' problem. Tried to uninstall HushSMS and its Xposed module but the problem still persist.
I think factory reset may help (as I don't have the problem when I first bought the phone), but I don't want to factory reset
Factory reset will not help
For me it fixed it for a couple of days only
Nobody jumps into this thread
Which means that from millions of note 3 devices we are just a few with this issue ?
Most people don't have the sms delivery report enabled.
(the majority of western-world mobile users doesn't use sms altogether anymore.)
Check with your service provider, there may be a network related issue.
And does the problem also persist if after a reset you don't install any apps, particularly sms ones?
Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk 2
It worked after factory reset until I enabled mightytext app.
The app was restored with titanium backup but not set up yet.
After I set it up and used it then no delivery reports anymore
Coincidence? who knows
Of course I uninstalled mightytext but the delivery reports still were not working

Not sure what you mean by "1 piece" and what does NHA stand for? Other than that I recommend you clear cache and clear data in your applications manager and try again. If that doesn't work uninstall your messaging app and download and reinstall a fresh version.

Ok, I didn't recognize NHA, there has been so many versions of the firmware on this phone in the past couple of months that it is hard to keep track of. Anyway, sometimes clearing cache and data in your app fixes a problem like you are describing. If that doesn't work uninstalling the app and re-installing an updated version of that app (in this case the messaging app) will fix the problem. If one of those two actions don't solve the problem then try a different messaging app. Are you rooted? if so did you freeze or delete any apps that came as part of the firmware?

Hmmm, not sure what the issue is. If the only files removed was bloatware then that shouldn't cause a problem. The only thing I can think of at this point is to ODIN the latest firmware from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...ment/stock-collection-kernels-modems-t2842069. You will loose root but at least you have your phone back to fully stock with factory firmware installed. You can then re-root. The link I provided gives you a link to the factory firmware that you can flash in ODIN (the exact same firmware that came on your phone). Just a suggestion.
make sure when you reply is only to a 10 digit number ie. 1234567890 NOT +1234567890 etc.. other than that seems odd but to me sounds like a numbers input incorrectly on a reply

Not receiving text messages

I have a XT1625 running stock Nougat and have not been able to receive text messages without clearing cache/data in the messaging app.
-Using the stock Android Messages app.
-Best date I can pinpoint when this started is March 30.
-Phone was unrooted when the problem first started. Have tried a factory reset, and also unlocked the bootloader and rooted with Superuser at the same time. Also Elemental kernel.
-I got a new SIM card yesterday from Verizon, and it did not affect the issue.
-Software version is NPJS25.93-14.7-5.
The only thing that seems to work is uninstalling all updates from the Messages app and not allowing it to update. And I'm not confident that I have been testing this theory long enough to be sure it won't fail me.
Anyone else having this issue or know what i can do to fix it?
