Attention Devs - KIND REQUEST - Pure AOSP Rom - Galaxy S 4 Mini General

To all the devs.
First off, would like to compliment you on the great work you do, and putting in all the tme and effort for developing your roms.
I would please like to request, if you are interested, to develop a PURE AOSP ROM, either kitkat or lollipop, like you get on stock Nexus.
I think a lot of people would be interested in experiencing the stock Nexus look and feel.
I am adding a poll, so for all those interested please vote.

i can't see the point at all .......
you have CM11 (the last nightly is good ) ......and then CM12 .
Cyanogenmod is already "simple" and enought "pure" with lots of interestings things , really not difficult to understand why this rom work...........and very ergonomic !!!
CM is not like others customs with all theirs "frills" like Pie ,omniswitch ,exotics personalizations ......more or less useless for a standard use .
=> with that , i really don't think at all that a dev want to "spend energy" to make a "poor" AOSP pure ... and too many peoples are really not interrested by this sort of rom

Dont know why but has just always interested me. And Im too uneducated and dont have the resources to build myself. Pure aosp has just look interesting to me.

I second this , i would love to see a pure AOSP rom.

A pure AOSP is a pain in the ass ( u have to pick to many patch from caf), a CAF version will be easy or CAF based too like DU, SLIM

personally think it would be worth it though to truly use android at its purest (no bloat, slowdowns or crap). and people who do want some customisations on this rom the xposed framework is available to lollipop now.

To be honest I prefer TW to AOSP am I the only one?

I thought TouchWiz is a "heavy" ROM compared to CM. How does it give performance for gaming?

Well, that is the case atleast on my s4 mini. The thing is i do not always run my s4 mini @ full 1.7 ghz
While gaming on stock rom i set cpu @ 1.3 or 1.2 ghz and plays it just fine. I play subway surfers, dead trigger 2 and asphalt 8.
All run smoothly @ low graphix settings. But on custom roms like cm I have to set cpu @ 1.4-1.5 GHz for same fluidity and
obviously battery drains a little quicker.

[Q] Best ICS Rom with the best performance Settings

Hey Guys,
Sorry for my bad english i'm german....
Can anyone tell me which ICS Rom on Gt540 is the best and which Settings in performance.
thanks for every Awnser
ICS roms are all bad in performance.
either you really wanna go for ICS (not recommended), then you may have a look on miroslav_mm's CM9 or rishab_raj37's AOKP
or you go for a very good performance and many many working things: AOSP 2.3.7 by miroslav_mm
i had AOSP 2.0 by Miro but after one week i have many performance problems it was only lagging and so on :S
can you tell me the best performance settings in AOSP 2.0 by Miro? it must have a good performance and a acceptable batterylife
Tell me what kind of performance you are looking for and roughly how much battery life you are expecting
that apps like whatsapp open really fast and that scrolling is without lag
the battery must hold with 3 hours whatsapp and standby one day
dude are you living in a cave..?

our LG gt540 is a (probably was a ) a entry level smartphone . so you can't expect to play dead trigger or most wanted on it...and talking bout games and performance its only a myth for our phone.talking by todays standards our gt540 is best only for light android usage, browsing ,small games and chitchat with gf's..so i must recomment you to STRICTLY USE ONLY RISHAB RAJ's ROMS cuz he takes best Roms out there and makes em even better.CHOOSE AOKP ICS BY RISHAB RAJ.no match for this if you want ics

From your description er... Stock 2.1 anyone??
when you install 2.3.7. on the GT540, will apps automatically be installed pn your sd card and not on your phonestorage?
If not, how can you deal with that problem?
AOKP was the best ICS for Swift

[BENCHMARK] Android evolution from 2.3 to 4.2

Hey people!
This afternoon I got bored so I decided to find myself the best ROM and to learn so Nexus S history. I've tried everything so I'll just go thru from 2.3 to 4.2. Not just performance wise but with design, smoothness and speed. Hope It'll be useful I had fun doing it! Let me clear that I put the ROMs I liked the most in each Android version! Except Jelly Bean 4.1. In every version I'll just start with raw numbers in apps and games then UI, browsing and usability along with design. I'll post Antutu scores in a zip file at the end of the post.
Let's kick off with Gingerbread then. I'm putting Pure Bionic from Team Whiskey helped by Morfic's Trinity kernel at 1,32 ghz.
Antutu score: 4945 (OMG)
Avarage FPS in Modern Combat 4: 47
Avarage FPS in Backstab HD: 52
UI speed and design: Very simple nothing fancy just how I remembered. But the phone is damn responsive. Instant navigating, no lag at all but I just can't feel the smootness of 4.x.
Browser experince: Very fast loading time but laggy scrolling as expected. Without hardware acceleration It's just a half armed goliath.
Overall, Gingerbread (with Bionix) is lighning fast but you have to sacrifice everything fancy. If you're using your phone for gaming and you don't care about fancy UI then I'ts your best choice I assume. Or If you need a phone which reacts instantly that's it. I can't recommend it for every day use.
Let's go on the Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich. Bugless Beast latest release with trinity kernel at 1,32 ghz.
Antutu score: 3634 (maybe because of the GPU, I ran it several times, just could not get more than 3600 pts)
Avarage FPS in Modern Combat 4: 32
Avarage FPS in Backstab HD: 39
UI speed and design: It feel like It's a hybrid between 4.1 and 2.3. I can feel It' smoother but definitely not as fast as GB. Let me clear that none of the roms felt laggy, I'm just compairing them. It looks way more better but.. for the cost of performance.
Browser experince: Finally HW ACC! Way more smoother than GB. Avarage loading time, not a big deal, but very much usable.
4.0 was a great start. New UI and a feel of smoothness, but can't really recommend it for anything. Maybe for someone who wants to play games which doesn't run on 4.1+ (lack of RAM even with high bigmem)
And here we are at Android 4.1 my personal best. I'm trying to stay objective. There'll be 2 ROMs. Pure CM10 and Rascarlo's Rasbeanjelly with alpha12 kernel clocked at 1,32 ghz. I'll take a closer look
CM10 scores:
B]Antutu score:[/B] 4337 (seemed real)
Avarage FPS in Modern Combat 4: 44
Avarage FPS in Backstab HD: 47
Rasbeanjelly:
B]Antutu score:[/B] 4825 (big surprise!)
Avarage FPS in Modern Combat 4: 47
Avarage FPS in Backstab HD: 51
UI speed and design: Much more cleaner design and animations. More smoothness thanks to Project Butter. Google somehow removed those annoying "ics lags".
Browser experince: Similar to ICS but with more "butter". Couple of more features and fixes.
Jelly Bean 4.1 is ready for everday use I really recommend it. Only dissapointment is the fact that we need high bigmem and it means we need to kiss goodbye 720 mkv playback. There is a lot of variation. Trinity kernel for gaming. Air kernel without big mem for multi media and last but not least Marmite for everyday use. If Morfic would implement voodoo in his kernel than our multi media and gaming kernel would be the same. (I'd really want that).
And here comes the latest Android 4.2. I can't really judge it because It's still under development and not ready yet. So keep in mind that. I used jellyshot v0.5 with marmite 7.0.4
B]Antutu score:[/B] 4059 (big surprise!)
Avarage FPS in Modern Combat 4: 35
Avarage FPS in Backstab HD: 42
UI speed and design: More user friendly more features. The lockscreen is a bit wierd. If your phone is locked they still can view your email and calender etc etc.. Love the new things.
UIBrowser experience: Very much similar to JB. Nothing really mentional.
As a said and can't really tell what's up with this yet. I say it's not yet comparable. Everything works as it should. New features new ideas and can be used as daily ROM.
At some points I felt myself dumb even writing it down, but I hope I helped someone to decide which Android version you need. I can't really help in deciding which custom rom to use since there are so many features and combinations! Thanks for reading and feel free to comment and share your thoughts.
PS: Sorry for my english, I'm a bit sleepy these days
Cheers, Zunex!
Very enjoyable review!

Good reviews... I only spent time with stock GB when I bought my phone for like a month, then I took the plunge and flashed AOSP ICS 4.0.1 and never looked back... I saw ICS as a huge upgrade from GB...
With that, I could never find a good 4.1 ROM that had great performance and battery... But BAKEDbean 6 was the closest thing for me... But still annoying as a daily driver... So much to the point where I was shopping for another phone...
4.2 on the other hand, really woke my phone up again... Currently running Rasbean with Matr1x 24.0 and wow, this phone has much better battery life (even with me always having 4G turned on) and performance is buttery smooth... I won't flash back to 4.1 even tho I miss the added features... This phone is usable again and I don't want to lose that!!
Just thought I'd plugin my experience with the different OS options...

Very good read indeed!
I've just flashed BB6 to try out 4.1.2. Been on CNA before but kind of lost interest in it after lack of support it seems and also phone kind of got sluggish with time. I'm not one to try out experimental builds cause it's my only phone, so I think very hard before deciding! Wish I was more adventurous though as there are some great ROMs out there to play with!

This is my only phone AND i dont have a computer so if i screw this up, im stuck lol... I think the only thing you should watch out for is ports for new OS like the initial builds of ICS and jb (4.1)... 4.2 seems to have some real solid and stable builds out... Only downside to these builds is they're being worked on almost daily and will see frequent updates... The updates aren't for fixing bugs but mostly just adding features/tweaks...
I just flashed Jelly shot 4.2.1... It was just released to the Nexus S 4G today and has been on Nexus S for a bit... Either way bugs are gone and its just about adding tweaks...

Is Jelly Bean really that good?

Hey guys when I got Nexus S it's official software update was at 4.1.1 so it didn't make sence to tri GB or ICS roms, it felt like a downgrade, everyone wants the latest stftware, right? But I recently got to thinking that when Galaxy Nexus came out with the first ICS people who had a Nexus S didn't really hurry to upgrade case they knew that they would be getting ICS asswell, but now with 4.2 not being supported ofitially it makes since to change the phone. My point is that eaven if GB and ICS are older the develpoment was more alive, so what are your thoughts? Should I try Gb or ICS? Whats the best experience you had in terms of music, video battery life gameplay (eaven if I never play games on a phone) regardless of the software wersion. I should mention that I'm a flashaholic so it doesent matter what rom I use case I get bored with it pretty fast, I'm always eger to flash something on my phone.
ICS is laggy. GB looks and feels outdated. Jelly bean is your best bet for a complete user experience.
1. Install carbon unofficial rom: http://goo.im/devs/Gingo21/Carbon/Crespo/CARBON-JB-EXP-17AVRIL2013-161548-crespo.zip
2. Install voodoo sound app and configure.
3. Enjoy a lag-free overall user experience (limited to most games) and great battery life (although i experienced the longest battery life on slim 4.2.1 v1.1, but not as fast as carbon)
4. Don't expect your NS to be as fast as a quad core device. But it can be on par with a dual core device in terms of UI and gaming experience.

Yes I know a custom rom isn't going to do wonders, I was just curious about older roms that I didnt try, I'm actually on Carbon, the last nightly, but the unofficial seames to be better than all the nightly's put together, thank you
ICS is generally the most battery friendly (can last days), but laggy.
Difficult to answer
I've been using Carbon ROM with Marmite kernel 8.5(bigmem), the experience has been quite good, much better than these low end devices i have at home. UI is buttery smooth and fluid. Temple Run 2 is a bit slow-ish but i dont mind. Now the main factor, battery! yes its not that great, GB was the best i hear. I think my battery is faulty too, might go for a 2450 mAh battery.

There's only one bug as of right now that i know of, and that's the copy/paste force close, which is hardly a dealbreaker
If you have too many apps, 4.2 will be very laggy and have a pour battery life.
But i dont know how! Gamerz ROM still feeling like im on 4.1! Its fast and the performance is the best for a 4.2!
I have tryed all of those ROM in development thread. This is my favorite .
ICS is good two. Is a little slow than 4.1. But i liked it.
Just try some ROMs for a day or two. You will be pleasured ;/

yup will do, I'm on the flash everything chapter now

amazing sys
Jellybean is great but using it on the Nexus S is a really bad measuring stick to gauge Jellybean.. If you use the last official 4.1.1 build the Nexus S runs fair if you keep it as a minimalistic smartphone. (defaultish). Still.. It's more than obvious there is some severe limiting of performance due the single core CPU and severely limited amount of RAM.. 4.2.. Eh.. Too much.. I tried keeping my Nexus S active as just an MP3 player but PowerAmp randomly hitches during playback.. I put the phone to bed...
I have to say that generally speaking JB 4.2 is the best system that our Nexus S can run and the best user experience. We all know different usages means different results in battery life, lags, amount if free ram but in any case I feel confident in saying that once you have flashed a 4.2 rom there's no reason to go back to ICS or even to GB. It feels like an overall better experience and performance. Still, I wish the OS were a little more light on the small stock battery but hey, it's a decent tradeoff. Most of the time I'm on 2G data only because that's ok for my kind of usage (mostly emails and twitter) and with that the battery is quite decent.
The only issue that I have seen with the 4.2 roms I have tried is that after a few days (4 or 5) the cached apps are not recalled very quicly when launched. I usually reboot once a week and the problem is gone but in any case I don't feel dissatisfied at all.
I love jelly bean works great

[Discussion] TouchWiz vs AOSP/AOSP/CM/Other ROMs

Hey guys. Let's discuss about the ROMs we use.
So I've tried both TouchWiz and AOSP style ROMs before. These are my opinion for them:
TouchWiz:
+ great UI
+ more features than AOSP
+ has TV out
+ less bugs
+ multiwindow
- sometimes slow and laggy
AOSP
+ great advance features
+ mostly customizable
+ super fast and almost lag free
+ try new versions of Android
- no tv out
- no sim card contacts support
So can I get you guys's opinion?
It will be great if you can introduce me ROMs that have TV out and probably many Samsung features too.. Best is 4.2 and onwards
Thanks ! Hope to hear from you guys
For me,stock is better for daily use.AOSP are also good but one thing that i hate about these roms is bad battery life. With stock,i can get 5-6 hrs screen on time. With AOSP,i get 3-4 hrs screen on time.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
AOSP being super fast and lag free on the S2 is a myth really. HW composer does not work on non samsung based roms meaning no project butter. That alone makes stock based roms a much more fluid experience even if it may not be as fast at opening apps for example.
try charmeleon rom base on jb 4.2.1 has a feauture of all aosp pure stock vanilla android hehe
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
I find roms like CM/OMNI better than stock in many ways, but I can't stand camera drivers, these are terrible In TouchWiz we have all sorts of enhancements like real time focus, blinking detection and for me it's the only disadvantage of these roms.
is there a port of tw for ASOP 4.4 builds? i dont like the ASOP notification bar .....is hideous and has way less functionality
Aosp based - no project butter
Camera is pathetic
Battery life poor
Superb performace
Happy feeling to run latest android
Highly customisable
Sammy rom
- slow bt fluid
- superb camera
- bloated (can be removed)
-much better handling for high end games
- touchwiz ui (I like it more wid touchwiz)
-good battery life
-feeling of being ancient (when u run 4.1 even when kitkat has been launched for months)

AOSP being super fast and lag free on the S2 is a myth really. HW composer does not work on non samsung based roms meaning no project butter. That alone makes stock based roms a much more fluid experience even if it may not be as fast at opening apps for example.

On the hw composer part, is it specific to the S2? Or also the other S devices? like the S3 or S4 for example.

Except for the galaxy s ... Which was identical to nexus s
I would prefer touchwiz...
More features and stability and also good battery life
I have tried so many AOSP/AOKP roms... but in the end I keep coming back to stock samsung based rom
AOSP roms are really beautiful and faster when it comes to opening apps. Samsung Stock based roms are just the most appropriate choice for daily use... much better battery life, can share contacts with a car's BT device, faster and better quality camera, much better performances when gaming.
its that much better battery life on stock compared to new kitkat or 4.3 aosp aokp?
stock rom+stock kernel is better then all of others when talking abt battery?
If only there's a ROM with AOSP and TouchWiz together with those latest features from AOSP and TouchWiz .. Hhahaa

Yes it is. All you have to do is to take a debloated stock ROM. Philz kernel is just fine (stock kernel rooted).

Last time I checked, ppl reported few bugs. For example the quick settings bug.
Few months ago I tried an older version, but I came back to stock touchwiz. I had quite a few bugs all over the place (clean install).

Good / Stable / Fast rom for S4 i9505? December 2017

Recently got my S4 i9505 back, runs on factory stock 5.0.1 touchwiz, looking to root it, and install a rom? Which touchwiz, or pure android rom do you recommend?
Well, many ROMS around are done in amazing way... the best idea is to try each of them for like 5-7 days and pick a choice urself.. Some ROMs rock if u are a gamer type, some are well optimized for daily messages/calls/browsing with fine battery life... Some of them u won't like after 2hours of usage, it happens, so...
All I know for sure is that theres no the best rom, at first I didn't belive, but if u try them out, u will see...

well, the problem is that i am not a gamer at all, but i read long time ago that people had a great expirience with these roms:
TW based: imperium, wiz cyan
AOSP: pick any, all of them are mostly fast as a rockets
depends on what u like
and u can check shark jungle profile on youtube, he describes almost all ROMs...

Ressurection has many modification and customization, but i faced a little worst battery life than jdct one .... test both and see urself bro
stef_zii says rigth.
For me:
Give a Shot these -> JDCTeam(AOSP or LOS based) - LineageOS(LOS based) - Wizcyan(TW based) - SuperTW(TW based)
These are mostly known and good ones. RR has some (actually so much) bugs and Devs don't fix them, but you can try it.
Tw roms based Android 5 or 4 and some of them using Samsung galaxy S5-6-7-8 or Note4-5-7 framework that looks like these devices, but not same.
On the other hand AOSP&LOS based roms are pretty nice designed and looks cool. Substratum is a world that you can change mostly everything in your phone. Stability and daily speed better but i don't know if gaming speed good or not(i don't play games, just sometimes little games). But you couldn't feel any lag at heavy games like GTA San Andreas (at medium or medium-high settings), Asphalt 8, NFS, or others..
And at AOSP&LOS based roms, try Android 6-7 and 8(still beta in AOSP but LOS is optimazed, still not fully trust).
Edit: Forgot to say that, camera in TW roms gives better quality than others because of Samsung's tricks.. But enough for me at daily usage & Stability & Style/Design better at AOSP&LOS based roms for me.
So, if you have any question, i'll be here. But mostly, you need to try many of roms.

Thanks! i was actually thinking of just installing Google Play Edition 5.1, it looks fast and perfect for what i want, also as i'm not installing a newer version of android, which would slightly slow down the device with only lags here and there. While having S4 at 5.1 will possibly give really good performance?
is it stable?
how about performance?
maybe daily driver?
this is rom link ... https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...om-untouched-google-play-edition-5-1-t3198177

Actuay, i tried both GPE Android 4.4.4 and 5.1, but i don't remember 5.1. GPE 4.4.4 really nice and still it gives best performance for daily usage, but has a little bug which so many videos at youtube lags.
Don't forget that you need a custom kernel for both. Because random reboots broke everything if you use it at stock kernel(as i remember).
Google made a good job even at S4.
I know daily usage at 5.1 but not for long time, it was a few days before random reboots(i want a advanture with stock kernel), so actually it was really good. But as you probably know that Android 5.1 will always have some bad stuffs about structer of itself. Just give a shot for both.. (Camera still can't be reach to TW based roms quality)

Hi This is exactly what I was looking for. My sister's phone got stolen. No money to buy a new one yet. I gave her my old S4 i9505 to use but I am afraid she might find it a little to slow from what she is used to. I had mine rooted so I am trying to find a good Rom for her. She is not a gamer though. All I need is Rom that allows her S4 to have a great battery life, is fast and stable... Oh and it would even better if it was above Android 5.0... Android 5.1 or above would be great or.... A rom that only looks as if it was above 5.0.
Any recommendations? Please help. Thank u in advance.
