TF3D 2.1 'my location' weather not displaying location

Dear forum users,
I'm a happy user WM6.5 with TF3D 2.1. The weather at my location is updated nicely, however there's 1 issue I don't understand:
When I look at my home screen it still says 'My Location' instead of the city name where I live in (Ho Chi Minh city)...this is different from many screenshot I've seen on this forum where weather forecast city names are displayed nicely on home screen.
does anyone have an idea how I could fix this?

I'm having exactly the same problem. The weather tab just stays at 'My location', as does the home tab. I've manually added the city I live in to display the weather, but I'd like to know how to get the phone to automatically detect it. Any help?

I had this problem too and tried lots of fixes I read about here and none of them worked. Then I tried going into my phone settings and changing my phone from "auto" in the Network field to "manual" and then selecting T-Mobile. I'm thinking it was finding AT&T and not being able to determine my location.
Settings>Personal>Phone>Network>Network Selection
After doing this and restarting the phone (airplane mode on/off) it detected "My Location" on the weather tab and then on the clock. I'm in SW Florida and am new to T-mo so i don't know if this will have any undesirable effects.
Not sure if this will affect my roaming, but I don't really roam much so I should be ok. See if it works for you guys.

Could you tell me how to add city manually? My city is not listed in weather list of my phone. I have att, touch2 came from tmo unlock. When I try to update, it said something about not able to connect to dns and web2go.

Can't get My Location to work...

Did you guys try my tip of manually selecting your mobile carrier in settings>phone>network and set it to manual and then select your carrier? I tried everything before this, and it's worked on every ROM I tried it on.
You can always set it back to automatic if it doesn't work or impacts your roaming.
I'm just curious if others see this fix working, then maybe we can collectively figure out why it's happening to us (is it location, carriers, ROM versions, etc.)

manually selecting the carrier didn't work for me.
But I read somewhere else that it could work when you enable Wifi.
Doesn't need to be connected, just enabling should do the trick.
And it worked for me!

I tried the wifi trick and it didn't work for me. All my testing was done at my house with only my wifi in range (I live in the country) and it didn't matter if I was using it or not - no MyLocation data until I manually selected T-Mobile.
I'm on T-Mobile in Cape Coral FL - are you on Tmo too? Did you try driving around to pick up different cell towers? As I said all my testing has been at hoime, so not a lot of "variety" in what it could pick up over the air.

I am on T-Mobile, but it's over here in Germany...
I didn't try different cell towers.
Looks like you have to try both, when encoutering the problem.
Is anyone here who tried both and it still didn't work?

i tried all of your suggestions but nothing helped it worked one time but since then ...

Gotta say i've only ever had it working once, and even then it was very inaccurate (brought up somewhere about 20 miles away).
I've tried every radio, manual network selection, turning 3g off, i also had to add my own town into the database and nothing works.
Using google maps with wifi, 3g, grps it finds my location to with in 500 metres, with gps it's spot on, so i know that aspect of it works.
However using the weather my location, it rotates between 3 different locations (One is about 1 mile away and the other 2 are about 5 miles away). It'll bring up the name, but always gives me the "There was a connection error while attempting to download weather data. Retry?" message.
so i'm at a loss as to how to get this working.

My location is working for me, i'm using the tmob radio(not the one in my sig but it worked with that one too) its showing a village about a mile from me, and the same on my wifes Hero-Stock ROM. all ive done is load latest Google maps and wait for it to find my location then exit, go to weather tab and select download weather automatically then back, a screen appears to accept google data download, accept then it works,
it seems my location is only as accurate as google maps as it uses the tower positions around you to triangulate you approximate position, when i'm in a town or city it shows that place. i dunno what else to suggest changing my radio helped. i'm not using 3g, maybe that helps?

I've tried doing everything the same as above and no dice.
Like i said google maps my location feature is pretty accurate for me.

Sorry i can't help any further..its weird, i'm running At0ms 3.7 but i'm sure it also worked for me on previous builds,
i think on earlier builds i had to also switch data connection on in comms so it stays on - Actually i think this might be be key as i think My Location has trouble calling the data connection which is where your error message is coming from. i hope it works for you.
As you're on Vodafone you could try this reg setting for Agps i don't think it will make any difference but it may do..if nothing else there good settings!

yeah it worked on fusion 3.5 but hasn't worked for me on any other rom.
TVM for the reg settings, i'll give them a whirl.

I've tried everything listed here and am unsuccessful on TF2D 2.5.
Does anyone have the original 2330fc3c_manila file they can upload from 2.5?

I a running shadowline's 23064 build with 2.5.19133431. I was unable to get the location stuff working as well. I turned on all the location settings through SenseUI, but no go. I enabled Assisted GPS through Advanced Config (not sure if that is relevant). Still no go. I allowed my phone to connect up to my home WiFi, and instantly, it recognized my location as Seattle.
Not sure if it will work for others, but it worked for me.

That worked for me at my home in Germany.
Now I am in Italy on holidays.
Same infrastructure here. Working WiFi, too.
But it doesn't do the trick here.
My phone still thinks my location is Germany and any updates just fail.
Think, I am giving up with this build.

weather update problem

for a few days i can't update weather on today screen.
on weather tab on the touchflo i can update whenever i want, but on today screen i get a error message like " no weather data".

Assume it worked before and you did not flash a new Rom meanwhile.....
In actual fact it is a buggy application and myself experience the same so now and than....
Sometimes it helps to repeat "update" a few times after each other.....

i didn't flash new rom. but i had to disable my 3g connecitons and go on from gprs

That could be the issue. See if you can update with USB cable from your PC.

Me either, I can't get data update for Singapore, Hong Kong and Macao. The rest looks fine.

i tiried but no sense. i think only 3g works for updating weather on today screen.

You do not need 3G to update weather. Go to Google maps and see if you have your current position registered and you enabled HTC location service.

used to have the same problem,
can update weather only thru Wifi or 3G.
had problems updating on locations with only GPRS signals,
the Htc update fixed it - ( darn i can't post outside links)
anyway check out the HTC official site for the touch2 weather update.

People, I have the same problem, except mine doesn´t work even with WIFI and ActiveSync. I live in Germany, but I moved to Ukraine for a while and my Local weather freezed on "Michendorf"- one of German cities. Have no idea what to do. There are now error signs or something like that. It just shows "updating"for 1 sec and then shows the same wrong data. ;( Roaming update is turned on, I even don´t need it, because I have ukrainian sim card here. GPS signal is also perfect. Connection is only GPRS or EDGE here, but it doesn´t even work with WIFI/PC.

I had the same problem. It happened (I think) after installing the weather update patch from HTC site. After a hard restart it updates only via WiFi. Maybe 3G or GPRS connection isn’t working because it’s unable to gain information about phone location. The location information doesn’t come from GPS but from internet provider(WiFi) or phone service provider(3G/GPRS) that’s why Google maps shows your approximate location based from that sources when the GPS is off.

I am trying to find out how widespread the GPS locking problems are with this model. I am talking about non-assisted GPS, which can be tested using the "GPS Test" application on the market.
So, how is the GPS on your phone performing using GPS Test? Please give some detailed information like lock time, number of sattelites, urban/countryside location, and if possible firmware version of your phone.

My Spica cannot get a lock at all, will see up to 11 satellites but most of them with signal strength bars at zero. Firmware versions tested (all same result)
1.5 (XEJB2)
2.1 (XXJD1, XXJD4, XXJF2, XXJC3)

Same pb with my wife's spica. Samdroid version with FE7.
Can't lock withour assistance. What a pitty.

Go to your Settings -> Date & Time -> Uncheck Automatic and see if it helps

My spica wont connect via gps either. It just keeps blinking and nothing happens...not even after 30min.
I've tried GPStest and it reports that 12 satellites are in view but non in use, and there is no bars everything is at 0...not picking any signal at all :S
I tried my friend's one too and he gets a signal imediatley and a lock after about 10-30seconds.
Any solution to this? Is it a software problem or hardware problem?

I installed the alpha CyanogenMod 2.2 and GPS is working like a charm!
Problem was with the wrong libraries being used in many of the custom roms found at SamdroidMod. Devs found out about this issue and fixed it in this 2.2 release.

I'm running original firmwire which i got on the phone. (XXJE4)
I'm not willing to install alpha cyanogen of froyo yet...Is there really no other solution? I've had a chance to compare my spica to another one with original firmwire (JE4 too) ant that other spica worked while my gps had no lock. Also i had the chance to try one with samdroid on and it worked too.
Mine works from time to time. at the moment it works, earlier today it wouldn't get a lock no matter how long i waited.

First thing-delete /data/xtra.bin- this is data for agps which seems to cause gps locking problem. You can do it with RootExplorer/SUFBS or any file manager with root rights. Or use GPS Status and Reset agps data from setting. You can also try to swap libsec-ril.so, JF2 version works best for me. If you want I can provide update packages for libsec-ril.so

i have installed cyanogenmod 7.1 on mine, and can get a lock under 1min30s outside or under 3min in the bus near the window.

I have a rooted spica with android version: 2.2.2, baseband version: i570EXXJC1, kernel version:2.6.29 and Mod version:SamdroidMod-2.2.2-a9.
When I go to google maps app and click set location I always get an error saying: location temporary unavailable ! I checked the option on Settings->Location and security->Use wireless networks and use GPS satellites. And my phone is connected to the internet.
I just bought the phone last week, and its really embarrassing not getting this to work.

thanks for the useful info, you saved my life by this post.
i thought my gps is wrong in my spica then it was just a bug in the cooked rom. cyanogen mod is cool and gps is working now perfectly.

With spicagenmod + hp/yonip kernel gps work very well.

[Q] GPS Will Not Work with Cyanogenmod

My GPS has been working fine until I installed Cyanogenmod on my U.S. Cellular Galaxy S4 (SCH-R970). It shows the icon in the status bar when it is searching, but it never finds the GPS.
I have tried a few apps from the market (GPS Status & Toolbox, and GPS Status - Test & Fix, GPS Test). After resetting/reloading the A-GPS data, it still could not find my location. I saw that I could flash a radio to my phone and that may be able to help, but I'm not quite sure what that will do, or what radio to get or much at all about that part.
It seems like I am getting a few satellites in use, but not enough to get my location.
Anyone have any ideas for me? I would like to get this working soon.

I have just acquired a new, unlocked sim free Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 version and it is on a kitkat 4.4.2 firmware.
My question I notice there is no GPS toggle in quick setting so had this been removed and the location toggle used instead please?
Or it is varies depend what region firmware you used please?

Location toggle is as same as the GPS ones. samsung just updated the design(in my opinion they're preparing to update the UI like S5)

So is there no GPS toggle in Samsung Galaxy S5 as well, replaced by Location toggle instead?

I watched a Samsung Galaxy S5 through Youtube and yes same there there is now Location Toggle and no GPS toggle.
So the Galaxy S4 I got must be newer with more latest 4.4.2 firmware than older Galaxy S4 from last year because I watched a video on Youtube again with Galaxy S4 being updated to Kitkat 4.4.2 and still retained GPS toggle

nope its not there, only the location toggle which does NOT switch on gps but location services which I do NOT want... when using google maps it asks if you want to switch on the location services... not gps... havent been able to get my nav software to work yet (copilot) for some reason it just cuts out...

I`m looking for same... I used with Galaxy S4 Active GPS on/off. Unfortunate both S4 and S5 got direct button for "Location" not for GPS only.
I need to keep "network location service always on" so Smart Wifi can work and on/off only GPS when needed for navigation.
Any ideas appreciated... Looks like I will find some GPS widget...

I just got an S5 and was also disappointed to discover they bundled Locations Services with GPS. Like you I also want to leave network location services on but only use GPS when navigating. I'm looking through some of the modding threads to try to find a mod that puts the GPS toggle back in the Quick Settings menu.
