Extreme battery issues. - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I hated the lollipop OS so I went back to KitKat 4.4.4. Now just in the past week it's been nearly impossible to get this tablet to full charge. It takes HOURS just to charge even 20%. Now I've noticed in this past week that google play services is taking up a whopping 36% of my battery. And it has never done this before. Not only that but on the battery graph it shows that my tablet has been awake and has never went to sleep. Even after sitting, doing nothing for an hour and half while I was in my physics class. Even for hours overnight it stayed awake not once did it sleep. So I'm starting to wonder. Does anyone know what's going on here?

Weird battery drain recently

Hey guys.
I have had a Nexus 7 since the end of July and I love it! However, recently I have been experiencing a weird problem with my battery. Normally, after a full charge I can get about 6 full days in just standby or about 5 if I use it for a considerable amount of time. What has happened recently is that my Nexus has dropped the battery percentage by a lot at completely random times. Like for instance, Friday night it was at about 15% when I left it. Now normally it'll only drain a few percentage points while in standby. I came home about 4 hours later to find it completely dead. That has never happened before. It gets weirder. Last night I went to bed with it at about 85% remaining. I woke up about 6 hours later and was surprised to see that it drained to 55% in just standby! Then after it drains a large amount, it goes back to normal standby behavior. (It is at 53% as I write this)
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Have you checked which apps are running in the background? Did you install any new apps around the time your issues began?

Sorry for the late reply. I have not installed anything new. I will see if it happens again. So far, it has not.
Thanks!

[Q] Battery Draining 25% overnight.

My Battery drained from 100% (it was fully charged, then I unplugged it and locked it) to 75% overnight.
What are some likely causes of this?
I noticed you have no signal. Constantly searching for a signal will drain the battery...
I've only had my N4 for a few days but the battery life has been good so far. A couple of brief observations...
1) On wifi only overnight (no SIM as I just got it and didn't have a micro yet) for 7+ hours. ZERO % drain...
2) On LTE (2-3 bars) for the past 3 hours. I left the phone and came back later. ZERO % drain...
Gmail is push, no GPS or BT. Only core apps running. I don't normally have anything in the back ground outside of lightflow...
Download GSam battery monitor
I noticed this also. I never had that much drain with my Galaxy Nexus.
I went out to lunch. Sent a few texts with google voice and looked up some random food articles on wiki for a few minutes. I was gone for 1-1.5 hours and now my battery is down to 47% from 75% this morning.
I'm going to download GSam and see what I get from there.
Edit: Installed GSam.
Attaching results from it.

Charge it fully tonight, unplug it in the morning, and then post your GSam results tomorrow night after a day of usage.
Mine has started loosing charge overnight too.
It won't turn of wifi when asleep either. Since I activated Google Now.
Mine lost 5%in 4hours overnight. Nothing running apart from mail and now notifications.

Your android OS usage is terribly high. That's my first suspect.

My android OS usage is very high as well... sometimes higher than the screen. I'm gonna try turning off google now to see if that does anything but other than that I have no idea what would be causing that...
The screenshots show app usage as being 50%+.. It is probably a rogue app you have running in the background.

As I said before, I believe it's some Google apps, I deleted a bunch of Google apps I don't use. My phone sleeps like a baby now. Overnight it only went down 2%.

I had the same issue for a couple of days. I would wake up to my phone only having 65% charge and the device would be rather warm. In my situation, I found that the charger was faulty. I noticed at times it would cause the phone to flicker back and forth from charging to in use. Lucky for me, I don't sleep well at night and I found the issue after my phone had been plugged in for 5 hours in the middle of the night. With that said, I also noticed the charger would make a high pitched hum/hiss. I swapped my charger out for my old Iphone 4 charger and I haven't had an issue.
Nearly a full day's results.
I left my phone charging from night until morning. I unplugged my phone sometime around 10-11am and I stepped out around 12:30.
It's 5:52 pm now.
I was out from around 12:30 to around 5ish. At around 5 my phone had 50-56% battery left. My friend's Iphone 5 had 75% left. Aside from my friend using his iphone as a GPS to navigate in the car (around 20 minutes) - we had roughly the same phone usage (by my estimate of course), we were at same locations and both of us are on the same network.
To be frank, I don't understand why my friend had more battery life than I did considering he was using gps. I do feel like there is something draining my phone battery.
My screen light settings are on automatic.
I've attached GSam and my list of applications.
From about 5 to now (5:52):
After a bit of surfing, installing 1 application to list my apps, emailing that app list to myself screenshotting the relevant data and emailing those screenshots to myself over wifi. I'm now down to 39%

3 hours and 20 mins down the line.
I'm at 10% battery.

battery drain issue. is this normal?

I've been having strange battery drain issues, so I decided to use the factory images to restore the nexus 7 and I've booted up with 100%, connected to my WiFi network, no Google account entered, and let it sit and idle overnight.
After 8 hours I'm down to 56%. Which is roughly 5% per hour with zero apps installed. Is this normal or should I get it replaced?

Not normal for me, after my first full charge I got a full 3 days on battery with 5 1/2 hours of on screen time. Connected to WiFi and streaming sync on twitter.

compared to my tablet, it's not normal at all.
Damn... Figured as much. Time to return it to best buy.
Seems like a defected battery to me. Good luck with your new replacement
I`m having the same problem with 2 new (2013) 32 GB Nexus 7`s.
Terrible stand-by battery life. I started this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2394813
Please let me know if the replacement tablet is any better
You definitely have an issue. Mine sat for 4 days, 5 hours and 34 minutes, WiFi on (Android OS - 26%, Tablet Idle - 24%, WiFi - 22%, Google Services - 16%) and only went from 100% - 54%.
Good and bad news.
Good: got it replaced and it's much better. Only dropped 2% over 9 hours idle.
Bad: this replacement has light bleed at the top. The other one had none.
I installed CM 10.2 last night. Left my tablet unplugged overnight. This morning: After 9hrs on battery, my battery went from 100% and stayed on 100%!! Wow! Now we're cooking. That's with Airplane mode off as well.
Good to see you here freeza!

Phone froze....now BAD battery drain

Happened yesterday. Froze as I was unlocking it. Hard reboot. Went from 24 to 36 hours with 4 to 5 yours of screen on time and about 1% loss in 2-3 hours on standby, to showing about 6 to 7 hours total usage time and a 3% drain every half hour in stand by.
Stock rooted JB, nothing special. Ideas? I'm not seeing anything jump out at me using battery specs or wakelock programs.
Update: Some testing and watching while at work revealed nothing strange. No wakelocks or anything. Thought maybe i was having an audioout_3 issue because its partial wakelock count was at the top of the list, but not astrinomical, and the phone is verified to be going into and staying in deep sleep.
But......at 82% battery the phone is telling me there's under 11 hours remaining. That's WAY off.......is it possible something shorted intetnally when iy froze on me yesterday?

Excessive System Battery Usage?

I have had my Galaxy S7 since about four days before it was officially released thanks to T-Mobile shipping it early. (I say this because I assume this is enough time for the battery to cycle)
I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced some crazy system battery drain? I have hardly used my phone today other than two phone calls that lasted about 2 minutes each. My Android System has used 42% battery and it's draining at about 5% an hour. I don't even have two hours of screen on time. I close my apps out when I am finished with them so I don't think that is the problem. I also have location turned off. Any ideas? :crying:
My doing the same. Not sure what's the big gap is about.

Mine was getting 7 hours sot for around 20 hrs of usage then all of a sudden the other day it started this crazy battery drain where it went from 100% to 80% in 2 hours with no use age. I didn't install anything new at all. So I did a factory reset and now it's back to the way it was.
I had to have had an app that went rogue as my device also was heating up. The reset was just the quickest and easier way to correct. Besides with no root it's almost impossible to find the culprit

I had a battery drain issue and I traced it to the "My Places" app that the contexual location edge bar uses to determine your location. It was keeping my GPS on and keeping my phone awake. Turned it off and back to 5+ hours screen on time.
