I have the SM-N910G Note 4 and I rooted it and added twrp custom recovery. Then I bought an app called phone info (Dev is here on XDA) and according to the app my version of KitKat 4.4 is old and upon checking there's a newer version available.
When I went through Settings > About Device > Software Updates > and tried to update: "The operating system on your device has been modified in an unauthorised way. Try downloading software updates using Samsung Kies on your PC or visit customer service center"
So I installed Samsung Kies and got the following error: http://oi57.tinypic.com/2a6o9ic.jpg
The thing is I tried what it said and disconnected my battery and tried again and it downloaded the whole update 1.6GB all over again, and failed with the same error. But this got me thinking and I checked C: temp directory and sure enough there where two files 1.57GB exactly each. So I saved one of them to the desktop with the idea if I changed the files extension to ??? something Odin can work with, could I update that way?
I can't seem to find the XSA Australia firmware (my phone is not a carrier version), and sammobile keeps cutting out on me so I've given up on that site. Just want to update KitKat to the latest version.
Thanks for reading.

Hello
I manage to build up a GT-I9505.
All the parts that I used are from defective devices purchased from Ebay (main board ; display etc)
At the first start the phone had a strange firmware installed and was in a factory mode.
I did a research on google and I manage to exit from the factory mode and also to flash a new firmware (I9505XXUBMF8).
The new firmware contained PDA/CSC/Modem/BOOTLOADER.
I use the phone since 2 or 3 weeks with no problemes.
But last days I found out that there is a newer firmware (I9505XXUBMGA) so I tried to update via OTA.
Unfortunately each time when I trie to update via OTA i get "network or server error please try later".
Also via Kies I got :
"your device's curent firmware is not supported to update firmware via Kies
current firmware version : PDA:MF8 / PHONE:MF8 / CSC:MF8 (XXX)
What can I do in this case?
The PDA/Modem/CSC seems to match.
From what I read on variuous forums this is all that matters on samsung phones to get updates via OTA & Kies.
Or also the IMEI needs to mach with the PDA/Modem/CSC?
In my case the IMEI is 0 but still the phone works on all the carriers from my country.
Any advice on how to get update work via Kies & OTA will be apreciated.
Thank you

Had the same problem when switching roms (Vodafone Dutch to DBT German) and fixed it.
1. Turn phone off
2. Do the 3 button combo (home button, volume up + power on)
3. CSC will be correctly installed.
4. Reboot phone and your pc
5. Check again
If that didn't work download the full rom and flash it with odin. That will fix it too
Hello everyone
I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 with stock 4.3 android of BTU (MJ7).
I entered today Kies to check for updates (like I do every few days) and I got a message my device got a newer firmware.
OK so I clicked on update and accepted the terms and started the update.
At first it wrote "Downloading firmware upgrade components" and right after it showed the error "Failed to run firmware upgrade.Unknown error occurred."
I googled the problem and I tried already resetting the computer and the device, re-installing Kies3 and re-installing the USB drivers. Nothing helped.
Moreover, when I check for updates through the device settings it says I have the latest firmware.
My Knox flag is 0x0 and the device status is written as official.
I don't have any other computer to check.
So what is the problem and how to solve it?
Is my computer at fault? Or the device? Or Samsung's servers?
And why when I check through device settings it says I have already the latest firmware?
Thanks in advance
OK I solved the issue by disabling the Avast antivirus.
My only question now is why the OTA service said I have the latest firmware at the same time that Kies offered me an update?

Rule #1 Never update via KIES unless you don't know what are you doing...
KIES is for backup (what I never use) but all you need from them is samsung drivers... that's it

I replied and said that I succeeded in updating via Kies. The antivirus blocked the update.
My question is why this update didn't show up in device's settings via OTA?

After searching the internet with the same problem I got so many responses some saying don't use kies, while others say kies is the way to go I decided to visit the Samsung website to see what they say about this particular error.
I had put in the link that will take you directly but am not yet allowed to do that as a new user.
anyway on the Samsung website I selected my mobile model etc till I got to a page where I got 2 options one to upgrade through kies or upgrade through fota. I chose kies. you will then see where it tells you to download the kies software. I had kies but I still took the choice to download.
during the download and installation process it will notice that u already have kies on your pc so it will ask you to remove these, you must agree to remove. from there just follow all the instructions, it worked my gt-s5830 has been updated from 2.2.1 to 2.3.3
hope this helps
if anyone has any issues with updating your mobile on kies, ensure your anti virus is off and you run the program as an administrator...it gave me hell on earth for hours.
used kies on windows 7
hope this helps
My Samsung J730 GM Indian version have problem of software
Its show only an error has occur while updating the software. I tried with smart switch old version to get option software initialization on type model no
And S/N its say wrong model or S/N
2nd method I tried Odin latest old both with download mode
Flashing latest file here is link https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Fva-8E3gkI80qtyVNB9wki3aVdOB2zP8/view
All drivers are install Odin say added but all flash files are added to Odin but when I click on start its it's does not say failed after 10 to 15 min after say failed phone in download mode does not. Indicates its work or not even service center say we not able to repair even my phone is fully company given product so XDA is my last hope
you need to install the latest version of the available firmware.
I also had the same problem, it happens that the firmware that tried to install by odin was a few months older than it was installed on the device.
this happens because the bootloader is locked
must be downloaded from the sammobile site.
I rooted my phone last October 2020 and installed a custom ROM. Enjoyed it for a while but today I decided I want to revert to stock.
- Flashed stock ROM from Frija (wasn't able to backup data and settings when I first rooted my phone) (the stock firmware is the May 2021 security firmware update, it's the only one available from both SamFirm and Frija based on the region and carrier where my phone came from) using the HOME CSC file instead of the CSC (not sure if it's important to point that out but i'm just gonna bring it up just in case)
- Re-locked bootloader using download mode. Verified by searching for Netflix on the Play Store and thankfully, it showed up.
However, I tried making the phone search for an OTA update by going to Settings > Software updates > Download and install, but after checking for updates, it says my software is "up to date". I'm not entirely what the latest software version in my region is but I really want to get OTA updates back. I don't care about tripping Knox or what not, I just need the OTA updates.

As for my experience, if you are unable to get updates because of rooting, you will get: "Unable to connect to the server" or something like that. If neither Frija nor SamFirm were able to find newer software that you have, it's more like region-specific, not a rooting problem

Hi there.
Apologies in advance if I have posted this in the wrong forum.
I would appreciate any help that the knowledgeable people on here can offer for the following issue.....
I recently purchased a supposedly new Samsung Galaxy A20e here in the UK (from eBay) for my girlfriend. After a few weeks of getting used to it she noticed that she wasn't able to install any secure apps on it such as banking apps nor could the phone access any OTA updates (error message: "Your current software version isn't supported"). Other than that the phone is totally usable and works with her UK mobile provider SIM.
Upon further investigation I discovered that the phone appeared to be rooted (it has a MAGISK app on it). To make matters worse it appears that the phone may not be a A20e (i.e. model number SM-A202F) after all and may in fact be a Galaxy Jean2 (i.e. model number SM-A202K) - I believe that this is how the A20e was branded in Korea. All of the relevant information under Settings > About Phone points to it being a A20e, e.g. Model Number (as does the branding on the box) but when I put the phone into Download Mode it shows the model number as SM-A202K. I also believe that the Bootloader is unlocked.
The phone is currently running the following:-
Android 9 (One UI 1.1)
Baseband version: A202FXXU3ATB1
Service provider SW ver: PRT/PRT/KTC
Android security patch level: 1 January 2020
Current version (visible if I attempt to perform an OTA Software update): A202FXXU3ATB1/A202FPRT3ASL3/A202KKKU3ATA1
The seller we bought it from does not respond to my queries and eBay haven't been much help either.
No problem I thought as I would attempt to flash the latest A202F firmware (i.e. UK firmware - BTU) to it via ODIN (and thereby remove ROOT?) but this is where I need help. I must admit that I'm not an expert in any of this so please excuse my ignorance and naivety.
I have made numerous attempts at flashing what I believe to be the correct firmware (all starting A202FXXU3***) - all to no avail. I have even tried a A202K version.
The first issue I encountered was an ODIN fail with "SECURE CHECK FAIL (PIT)". After investigation I discovered that it might be possible to resolve this by downloading the PIT file and explicitly referencing this in ODIN (I downloaded separate PIT files for both A202F and A202K). Using the A202F PIT version didn't resolve this particular problem however using the A202K PIT did however I then encountered the next problem. Using the A202K PIT file and any variation of firmware via ODIN now fails with "SECURE CHECK FILE (BOOTLOADER)" and this is where my limited knowledge runs out.
Can anyone on here offer any advice as to how I can resolve this issue please? Ideally I'd like to get the phone to a state where it is not rooted; is running SM-A202F firmware; is able to get OTA updates and be unlocked to UK SIMs.
Many thanks in anticipation.

Check if the phone has any custom recovery installed by previous user, like (TWRP, OrangeFox..). If it does do a full wipe and via ADB check for device info. I doubt it will show the same information as you listed in your post. From there i would download this firmware if its a202F
Download Samsung Galaxy A20e SM-A202F BTU United Kingdom A202FXXU3CVC1 firmware
Fast download latest Samsung Galaxy A20e firmware SM-A202F from United Kingdom with A202FXXU3CVC1 and Android version 11
www.sammobile.com
Try using ODIN that i attached on this post and flash the firmware.
[Guide] TWRP and ROOT for A20e (A202f) [Updated]

Many thanks for responding.
Excuse my ignorance but how do I tell if the phone has any custom recovery installed?
FYI - it has a MAGISK app installed on it.
