Hi All,
I have a couple of Nook Color tablets with 16GB Sandisk C4 MicroSD cards.
Years ago I went all out and spent weeks tinkering with these to load a nice custom ROM (SD Boot); I even wrote a guide and shared it here on XDA.
Back then I used Mirage CM7.2 with V6 Supercharger.
What's the fastest most stable ROM these days for the old Nook Color? Am I better off installing custom ROM to internal storage this time for better performance or should I stick to MicroSD boot for the ROM?
Mainly I want to use it for reading ebooks (mantano reader with calibre companion) but web browser, gmail and maybe some youtube videos would be nice.
Any feedback is most appreciated.
Kind Regards,
Eltrkbrd
I use latest CM11 nightly with THIS kernel and I run the L SPEED v2 script HERE.
Pretty good performance and I mainly use it for music/reading, also I have Viper4Android for EQ.
Currently trying to get swap working to see if it adds any additional performance.
Jakeroxs,
Does your wifi work with the L Speed mod? I just installed v2.1 and mine is busted. I'm currently running the latest CM11 NIGHTLY (5/17/15), with whatever kernel it comes with. How does one install a kernel separate from the ROM? I am interested in your kernel because I think it OC's to 1200...
Anyway, I am nandroiding now, and I will then try the L Speed mod v2.0 and see if my wifi works again. I am so hoping it does. I went willy-nilly with the Speed Wizard before I noticed L Speed crashed the wifi, and boy, oh boy, did my Nook Color start singing. No lag, no SOD, no nothing; I thought it was a miracle. The device really felt like a new tablet.

Okay, so I am working on the problem now. I just installed L Speed v2.0 and it crashed my **** too. But, I just unselected a boatload of options, rebooted, and va-la, wifi is again working. I will now systematically reselect options until the wifi crashes, and post the results.

Okay, so the culprit was the "Kill media server on boot" option. So, if you run L Speed on your CM11 Nook Color, and I suggest that you do, disable that feature. Since this is my first and only tablet, I am super happy about this. It is smooth!
I just tried to disable "Kill media server on boot" on L Speed 2.1 and my wifi is still busted.
Jakeroxs, can you tell us which version of L Speed are you running?

Hello,
I'm a new member and since I do not currently have 10 posts yet, I cannot post in the Android Dev Forum. stupid rule IMO. So I am creating a new topic to make the bugs I have found known since I have not seen anyone talk about them in the dev forum.
*MODS* If you could move this topic into the dev forum that would be great!
Nexus S running Cm7 Rc1 with Netarchy 1.2.1 kernel. Great work guys!
Bugs:
1. When taking pictures in a dark room, the flash is not timed correctly. The flash lights up then turns off before the picture is captured. ( this happens about every other picture I take)
2. Lots of random reboots when doing cpu dependent tasks.
3. When saving pictures from MMS, pictures do not copy to SD. I've tried rebooting and re saving the photo's.
4. Apps freeze up and FC when started. It seems to be a different app every time I reboot the phone and it doesn't always happen.
5. Wifi is semi-broken. Sometimes it works fine, other times it will try to connect but fail. Under wifi it says connecting like its going to work but then just says disconnected.
I will post more bugs as I find them. Others are welcome to post bugs as well and I will update the list of bugs in my original post.
Thanks for all the hard work with the ROM and Kernel development!
Just a question, did you do a complete wipe before installing the rom?
Running the ROM with same Kernal for 24 hours and not had a single reboot or force close.
WiFi also working fine.
Haven't tested for the other bugs .
I haven't had a random reboot, frozen app or broken wifi yet but I do have the flash timing issue.
I had a baseband crash 2 hours after I installed CM7. Back on stock for now

1. works properly over here. when taking a pic with flash, there is a preflash first, then it focuses, flashes again and takes a pic.
2. whats your phone clocked to(setcpu)? is it overclocked? maybe your phone cant handle the overclock?
3. long press, press save attachment worked for me.
4. no problem like that
5. wifi works here. on the latest cm7 nightly with netarchys 1.2.4
Been running RC1 since it came out and haven't had but one random reboot. Wifi works perfectly, cell and data radios work perfectly, battery life is great, theme looks great, loving it. Seems like you're in the minority here lol
I haven't really experienced any of those problems actually.
Faced none of your issues although for me, if i get a random reboot due to overclocking my limit, my android.phone performs a force closed and i'm not able to have any cell signal until i do a wipe and to restore everything from my titanium backup.
Doing a nandroid restore doesn't help as well. Strange indeed.
you are running a outdated version of the kernel (1.2.1) 1.2.2 is the new stable version, and 1.2.4 is the latest beta. It could conflict with a newer version of CM7 (speculating).
Try wiping factory settings, cache and dalvik. Then reflash CM7 + gapps.
Not facing any of these problems, and this post wouldn't go into the dev forums at all.
i found a HUGE bug in cyanogenmod7 effecting all phone models. this might make ppl rethink using CM7. the info is posted here http://goo.gl/AZDtZ
I did a full data wipe and wipe Dalvik cache and almost all issues have been taken care of.
I still get lots of random reboots tho, I have switched to a stock kernel to rule out the OC.
Thanks for all the input

More customization, better performance, deodexed rom for theming, larger developer base, better features (power controls in the dropdown, more options for lockscreen...), support for Bluetooth input devices like the wiimote...do I need to keep going?

1. Custom Lock Screens
2. Edit Auto Light settings ( when system is set to Auto Brightness )
3. Enable Quiet hours so your phone will never ring out loud between set hours e.g 11pm - 6am
4. Music Control from lockscreen
5. Notifications area Power controls e.g WIFI / GPRS / SOUND
6. Faster Phone Speed in general
7. Sound Tweeks ( Boost Notifications / Ringtone / Speaker Phone )
8. Ability to use Voodoo sound and EXT4 hacks ( with custom kernals )
9. Better Battery Life ( further improved by lowering Light settings and disabling V/A settings )
10. Haptic feedback improvments
11. long press buttons settings ( I.E long press home and launch an app e.c.t )
12. Rom manager allows you to back up your whole system and Titanium backup allows you to back up all your apps and system data.
Anyone running this?
Is there any discussion of the RCs? I find some discussion of Nightlies, but not RC nor info about what is included.
Now for the stoopider question.
Can I install this RC just like the nightlies using Size-agnostic SD Card image and CM7 installer for SD Cards?
Any special considerations? Like clearing Dalvik & cache?
Thanks,
kev
Idk bout running from SD but I have been running off emmc and I just wiped cache and dalvik. It should be the same process as you have been doing for nightly. Just back up first.

I purchased a brand new Nook Color on Monday, brought it home and immediately installed "update-cm-7.1.0-RC1-encore-signed" to the internal SD by following this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1030227
My results so far have been fantastic. The only thing I have experienced so far that is even close to a 'bug' is that the backlight comes on when I plug in the charger, even if the Nook screen is off. Pressing the power button once turns the backlight off. I fully expect to eventually run into some other issue, but for now I am very happy!
I'm about to install it right now, been using the latest nightlies with no problems, but I still update every few days.
I would also like to know if there is a reason to switch to RC if the nightlies are working?
Sent from my Apple IIe
If a nightly is working great, then no particular reason to install just like there is no particular reason to install every single nightly unless you want to. I went from nightly 103 to nightly 112 then to RC1, it works great and yes it can be installed just like a nightly on the sdcard using verygreen's method.

The only reason I switched to 7.1 RC was to more easily implement the USB functions as described in verygreens WebCam thread.
It also requires the latest dalingrin OC kernel of 06/18/2011
Has anyone resolved the BACKLIGHT ON WHILE CHARGING issue in RC1?
Thanks
As for the backlight issue, just tap the power button when you begin charging and the backlight will turn off. My issue with rc1 is flaky wifi. By this, I must explain, not losing wifi signal but random switching between multiple signals at random. I have 2 routers here about 250 feet apart. My nook sits about 10 feet from one of the routers and has a full signal but sometimes decides to drop that signal and connect to the other router which has about a 40% signal. These are both 802.11 G routers.
Sent from my NookColor using Tapatalk
I also have two routers and have noticed the same switching and/or connecting to the one with the lesser signal even though I may select the stronger and hit connect. I just updated to nightly 120 will see if there's any difference.
I tried updating to 7.1.0-RC1 the other day and upon reboot it stayed at the flashing ANDROID text on the side. I was able to boot into recovery and restore a previous backup of 7.0.3.
For what it's worth, I noticed my wi-fi signal changing as well as the nook booting up when I plug it in to charge - both on 7.0.3 prior to attempting the 7.1.0-RC1.
I'm still learning and probably missed a step somewhere with the RC1 flash, maybe I'll give it another shot. Thanks to the devs for all the hard work!
Running it for 2 weeks, stable but some games don't work
Running RC1 for a couple of weeks now - very stable and smooth - but Spiderman: Total Mayhem stopped functioning altogether (was working extremely smoothly on CM 7.0.3).
Let me know if there are any possible workarounds - thanks !

The backlit issue may be a holdover from NC stock because the owner's manual states this is normal.
RC is stable enough.
Running this for about 2+ months and the results are fantastic. Anyone knows when the RC2 or stable release of 7.1 is planned?
Awesome ROM! I don't have enough posts yet (long time reader, I hardly ever post...) to post in the official thread....so I thought I'd post one here.
Passion v10 (BETA) has been one of the best custom ROMS i've flashed. This only comes (a very very close second) to Simply Honey. I'm sure v11 will surpass it though.
Yeah! ICS on my Vibrant....lovely!
Camera - works whith lag
Bear with balalaika From Russia
I tried v9.2, and it had some definite issues. I went back to Bionix. Then I flashed ICS Passion v10, and it's great for a lot of functions, but it rebooted twice when I received a phone call and tried to call...this is while I was travelling, so I wasn't too happy.
Hopefully all the bugs will iron out soon. I do like ICS.
GPS Lock issue
I just upgraded my t-mobile vibrant to Passion 10.6 and the GPS works but sometimes it doesn't. I'm experimenting with it to figure out the problem.
I found at least one case that if the GPS doesn't work enabling/disabling the GPS didnt see to fix the problem. I rebooted the phone with GPS enabled and then it locked immediately when the phone booted up.

Don't know if you're using GPS Test or NBAngryGPS to test but for hahas I just used GPS without running/fiddling with those two apps and only using the Maps app and GPS works anytime.
Just my observation.

I'm running 10.5 and it works great. I don't use GPS so I don't know if it works well. But I bought a bigger battery just so I could enjoy it for the whole day without any battery drain. Can't wait for v11.
ics passion v10.5
18000mah battery
My previous rom was froyo and it didnt lock as quickly at ICS Passion 10.6. I was quite impressed actually at how quickly it found 11 satellites and locked on to 8-10 of the in use. In a matter of seconds ICS Passion locked on via a fresh boot of the phone.
I always used GPS test on froyo and ICS Passion 10.6 and it worked fine. I even use google maps and it works too. On boot up of the phone ICS Passion 10.6 works worked beautifully.
If the phone sits idle for a while maybe 30 minutes or so and you try gpstest or google maps it never finds a single satellite. I have to reboot the phone in order to get it to find and lock on.
I don't know if any of you have tried that case but that is definitely what is happening on my vibrant. Again with froyo I never had this issue. I could disable the gps and then later enable it and it would lock on after 1-2 minutes with no problem.
I will try a few more things to see if I can isolate it more but its pretty clear at least on my end that it doesn't acquire a lock after being idle for some time.
---------- Post added at 07:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:47 PM ----------
I just confirm this. If the vibrant goes into power saving mode where the screen black out after its idle, I can not get a lock on the gps without rebooting the phone.
Both gpstest/google maps and angrygps cant get a single sat
Awesome
ICS Passion v10 is awesome. It's, by far, the best ROM I've ever used... coming from Stock to CM7 to ICS Passion (after a long drought). NeoBuddy89 has resurrected my PASSION for my phone again! Haha... simply awesome.
I'm running v10.6 , no extra mods, running Eugene's v10.6_update kernal and it is so smooth and fast, I don't care about the vibrant GPS, but all else is great, best combo I've found with passion. 2099 score on quadrant with 200-1300mhz and smartassv2.
Yeah running 10.6 Eugene's ed
My only long standing issue with this from as a whole is the low storage message and when I reboot it gets stuck on boot splash finally fixed it with a combination of restore app only in TB with killing fb auto sync and Gmail sync but besides that completely amazing

Sweet!
This ROM is amazing! My only issue is the screen seems to not be as responsive to touch so I have to press a little harder to get things to work. I installed Touch Screen Booster from the market and it seems to be better, still trying different configs. GPS is flawless! Locks in 15 seconds INSIDE my house. I never had that happen on any FROYO ROM.
PASSION for the FTW! This ROM has restored my interest and my faith in my Vibrant, and saved me some $ too. I almost picked up a GS2 last week but held off. I am amazed at how smooth and fluid this ROM is and that my Vibrant is running an OS that is not even available on the GS2 !
Passion 10.6 = Very happy Vibrant owner!
Was using stock 2.2 and it worked fine but I guess that I try out ICS since Samsung won't do ICS for this phone. First I had to flash back to Stock Froyo because Heimdall suite won't work. Rooted the phone, but won't go to clockwork mod. Have to install the rom manager manually then was able to install clockwork mod. After I was able to get into clockwork mod, try to install cm 7.1, but it reboot looping, so I had to pull out the battery and try again and was successful. Then I try to install this ICS, and again, loop reboots and had to re-install again. I guess it is just bad luck of me to try to install ICS.
I try to play some divx movies that worked fine in stock 2.2 but couldn't play the same files in ICS. Anybody know how to fix this? Thanks.

Thanks. BTW, I can't see the contents of the sd card from the phone. It thinks the internal memory is my sd card. Second, how do I configure a lockscreen? Third, how do I configure wifi access after I enable it? And finally, how do you configure and resize a widget?

Which ICS are you using?
1. Let the moboplayer scan the folder "emmc". It's in the very root of your phone
2. Not all roms have a built in option for this, again, which ICS rom are you using? So if the rom you're using doesn't have it the only way is to use a 3rd party app(not sure if we have this kind of app in the market.)
3. Settings / Wireless & network / wifi settings
4. hold the widget for a few seconds while it's still on the homescreen, there you can resize your widgets.

Thanks. I am using this ICS Passion rom 10.6. Downloaded moboplayer and it seems to work. I am trying to find the lockscreen using the 9 dot swiping unlock screen, but I don't know where to download it. I managed to figure the wifi settings.

Hi everyone,
I had been running LiquidSmooth 3.1 for several weeks with great results. I thought I would try something else for fun, and flashed a Google Edition ROM by Danvdh. It was not to my liking and I quickly went back to LiquidSmooth - however now I am finding I have very poor signal strength. I no longer receive signal in my garage, or at work, or even in my living room where this was previously never an issue. Right now I am sitting at my computer beside a large window, and I have LTE connection. By the time I have finished typing this post, I have no connection
I have now upgraded to LiquidSmooth 3.2 but the issue remains. I will lose my connection to Rogers and when I go to Mobile Network Settings > Network Operators it only sometimes finds a connection.
Is there any way I can test my antenna or flash a Rogers/Canada modem that might help with this?
Well this is interesting...let me provide some background info.
A few weeks back I broke the screen on my S4. I purchased a screen replacement on ebay for $120, but it was for an i9500 which has a few very small differences, and required taking an xacto knife to some plastic moulding to accommodate some different IC clearance. That worked great, but I noticed that my screen was constantly black when on a phone call - as if my proximity sensor was always detecting 'near'. Sure enough, I used an app to confirm this - and this is common after screen replacements with non-OEM screens. A fix for this is to put a small strip of electrical tape between the two proximity sensors so they can better detect a 'difference'. Put the phone together, and this worked great, my phone now properly detected proximity, I felt like a champion, so I wanted to flash a new ROM.........now read post 1.
I've attached a screen recording I took of it just dropping connection...and reconnecting, almost flickering in and out. It seems to average about -120dbm (10%), but I'm not sure whats normal. It seems to drop connection around -130dbm.
I've been able to flash a new modem I337MVFLUFNI2 but my issue still exists. Is it possible that I physically damaged parts of the antenna when replacing the screen? I am very confident working with electronics and there doesn't seem to be any physical damage that I can see
When using Danvdh GPE rom you have to manually select LTE from access point menu. Did you do this?
---------- Post added at 09:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:11 PM ----------
I would suggest you flash back to stock fw to your current boot loader. Of its mdj current then flash back to mdj stock via Odin. You have a miss match of hardware and perhaps a mismatch of uuids is your issue?
---------- Post added at 09:16 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:15 PM ----------
Then re-upgrade just modem. Be Sir to do this all with aim card out and no WiFi or else when on stock you may auto upgrade to Knox boot loader !

That sounds like a great idea. I found this thread that says my default would be I337MVLUEMK6 (is this my bootloader version?) . I went to samsung updates and found my phone the SGH-I337M with the MK6 and am downloading it currently. Will this flash my bootloader/ROM/everything back to stock? Or will I have to find a stock ROM as well?
I have selected LTE from my APN menu.
Attached are a couple screenshots of the Network Signal Info app I downloaded which has been a great resource. You can see that at some points I jump from great signal to no signal, almost instantly. I believe that this might be due to something that happened when I swapped my screen - perhaps a grounding issue of some sort....researching how to troubleshoot this as well.
Thanks for stopping by my thread :highfive:
Hi guys,
My GPS is not working so much well, at all.
I'm on NuclearROM right now but I'm kind sure that the problem was there also with other roms and ZUI as well.
If I use the GPS on High Precision mode apps like gpmas or PokemonGO manage to recognize my position, but It's not a live tracking, It updates the position every tot seconds and the result is like a huge jump of position, not a tracking. (I can suppose that the phone use only wifi/3g to track my position?"
If I use the only GPS mode apps can't recognize my position, at all, gmaps and PokemonGO don't know where I am.
So... Anyone had this issue? Is my GPS broken or what?
Thanks.
