Aosp rom features - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I havent flashed my S5 in a while so im not up to date with the bug fixes for AOSP. Do any of the AOSP roms support fingerprint scanner and 4k video recording? I really want to use an AOSP rom but i also want to use the features i bought the phone for. At the very minimum i would like the fingerprint scanner to work

What's A Good ROM w/stock kernel & fingerprint/milk music support?

I wanted a ROM on my phone, so I installed the Cynagenon Mod and love it, except I didn't know that it didn't support Fingerprint Scanner and the Samsung App Milk Music, both of which I use HEAVILY.
What are some good ROMS I can install that don't need custom/non-stock kernels?

Any TW user who has moved to AOSP and hadn't regretted since?

I don't know why I am asking this, but maybe because I can't use LP because Xposed isn't compatible with it yet, I mean for TW based ROMs that is, or something else, but I see that a lot of people are using AOSP based ROMs and even happy about it. I personally like stock Android too but for Note series they have always been a mess and either this or that never really did work fine, and I have used that Cyanogen thingy before, the experience was nothing short of awful!
So I am creating this topic, asking to the TW users only, who like TW, has any one of you moved to AOSP based ROMs and finding it good, or better than TW to put it simply? Does everything work, I mean S-Pen related features and all that?
I personally like TW interface. I'm currently using Lollipop TW and i find it really stable. I have also tried teamsek lollipop AOSP. It is stable but it lacks some samsung features like S-pen, S-cover and all those small sensor (smart screen, air view) options that TW software has. The latest version of AOSP that i have tried was teamsek 5.2 i think and it was really nice but battery life wasn't really good. But it might have changed in recent versions. So i suggest that you make nandroid backup and try AOSP and if you don't like it just restore your previous firmware.
Also there are apps on playstore that can enable some S-pen features on AOSP.
Hope i helped

I kinda qualify - I use and like Alliance ROM LP version - 7.1 currently. It is highly configurable and fast. The 'kinda' is because I normally swap to Nova Launcher as soon as a ROM is installed.
But I also use, more as time goes on, Temasek's LP CM12 build - currently 8.4 just installed. I'm liking it more and more as I use it - no Samsung bloat and the S-Pen beta from XDA does all I want with my pen and it's being upgraded pretty regularly as more features are added. I can't think of anything a stock-based ROM has that I don't have in Android 5 from Temasek.
Now if only there was a dual boot kernel around for the Note 3.

So with this ROM (Temasek) there is no problem you notice which isn't there on TW ROMs? Like poor call volume, crappy camera photo quality, the display going yellowish etc.? Basic functions, or the problems with basic functions scare me most.

You can try the one at http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/app-app-samsung-devices-provided-stylus-t3000448 - first post has email to join the beta program.
Also there is CM S Pen Addon from Play - requires root.

None that I have had. There was an issue with the AOSP cam I think where the video didn't work but changing the setting from 4K back to 1080 fixed that. No display issues I even seen mentioned - that was a problem with early AMOLED screens I thought...?
Only issue I have had is my custom ringtone and notify mp3's keep reverting back to default ones on reboot. Most annoying but hardly a deal-killer.
It's fast and smooth and Temasek and his crew are responsive to issues and good at their work.

why use roms such as CM?

Hi guys I was just wondering why would anyone use AOSP roms on note 4? doesn't it break the S Pen function? you wont be able to use all the note 4 features to the fullest or am I wrong?
AOSP roms are cool... but
Yes, i too keep hearing that AOSP ROM's break the S,Pen functionality. Plus, theres many many bugs too, tho most are small, and just annoying. For me, the Note4 is a special beast thats differet from a Nexus 6. The Note4 is a true 'phablet'. The other's is just an over-sized phone. So my point is why get the AOSP Rom & lose the things that make the Note4 stand out from the rest and change it to just an oversided phone like the Nexus6. I say wait til the bugs are fixed before flashing a new Rom. Or get Xposed Framework and change things to ur hearts content
I love the look and simplicity and speed of CM AICP and so on. Actually I dont like TW.
So, does anyone know wether there is the chance that the devs will ever be able to implement the functionality of the finger scanner or s health sensor in the future? Without the N4 is just a faster N1 without fm

[Q] Any ROMs that support the S5 sensors and fingerprint scanner?

Hello there,
I've been searching for a while a ROM for the Samsung Galaxy S5 based on Marshmallow that supports the fingerprint scanner, the heart rate sensor and the IR blaster (yes, I even need that) since TouchWiz gets slow and kills my battery (not to mention that it's still based on Lollipop).
The question that I have is, Is there any ROM available that supports all of this features? On what variants is it compatible?
If you have seen, or even tested one with those features, please let know all of the other S5 owners.
Thank you in advance.
im thinking until will Samsung made official MM (and free source codes) until that will be not supported in any rom
Thank you for that quick answer.
I wonder if Samsung will make the fingerprint scanner compatible with Marshmallow's Fingerprint API so it's easier to support on custom ROMs.
I have a US Cellular version currently running CyanogenMod 13.0 and I can use the pedometer, heartbeat detector and infrared TV remote just fine. The only sensor that does not work is the fingerprint scanner which is not and will not be used on any AOSB based version due to closed sources. Good luck!
Oh really? Well, that makes everything even more nice. I hope Samsung releases the source code for the fingerprint scanner soon.
Thanks for your answer!

AOSP users, what do you missed the most from stock ROM?

Camera quality is capped at 1080p Samsung won't release its source code.
Volte is not working because no release source code.
I think that's it. Lte internet still works.
GPS module does not work as it the GPS hardware you can still trace location using internet on the phone.
High Camery Quality
True AOD
High Performance, my Benchmark Scores are way lower and it lags a litte bit on AOSP vs stock Rom.
Don't use any AOSP rom, still using the stock rom.
I always encounter many more issues on AOSP roms and don't really ever get to fix them/sort them out, so I usually revert back to touchwiz quickly.
My notifications for apps such as gmail and WhatsApp end up not coming through unless I load up the app even when tampering with battery optimisation etc. I've always suspected the kernel to be the cause of the issue but I don't know enough about how that all works.
I was wondering maybe one of you guys had an idea/template for the best settings/build/set up for when using an AOSP roms such as LOS, BOOTLEGGERS or RR cause I really wanna use them but notifications are important to me
