Wow that thing is ugly. Funny thing is my tv remote already controls my Firetv and Tv and it's the one that came with my tv.
I think this would be really nice to have, my setup includes at least 2 remotes now and it would be very nice to have a way to turn the tv off/on and soundbar volume in one remote. Hope this succeeds

Thanks for the feedback. A lot of FireTV users like the remotes that come with the device. They are small, streamlined, and optimized for streaming TV. The FireTV Box can accept IR signals which is why your remote control for your TV will support it. However, does your remote control for your TV have the voice search option or a home button? If it does I would love to know the make/model.
Additionally, the FireTV Stick only accepts wi-fi based remotes. So your TV remote would not be able to control a FireTV Stick. That's where our product comes in handy. Ultimately, this product might not be for you but we have had very good feedback so far from users who share the same frustrations that we do.

Really? Fully functional (power, navigation, volume, etc)?
Which brand and model?
Btw--i think its a great idea...depending on price though, im not 100% certain a flirc dongle would be better. And i mean im not certain because ive never owned one. I do wish fire tv worked like my rpi does with tv remote. Right out of the box and theres an addon to configure keys the way you want.
Here is the Sideclick link for further review. Looks promising and hope it works out for them.
Thanks for link mjbxx
Thank you very much for posting the link, mjbxx. As a junior poster, it wouldn't allow us to do so
since the fire tv now accepts any bluetooth device wouldnt a dedicated IR/BT remote make more sense, and be less ulgly. thheres re already wireless remotes that are both RF and IR that work great with the fire TV for the same price as this ealry bird price and give you the benefit of a full keyboard as well.
For $30, hopefully cheaper if/when in regular production, I'll buy two. I only need power/vol+/vol- for one and tv power/sound system power/vol+/vol- for the other.
The design is kinda ugly, I'd rather if it were more of a piggy back thing putting the buttons on top of the remote over the empty space on the lower half of the remote, but I'll take function over form on this one.
I'm not knocking the concept product, cause I am sure its a good product, but its things like this that really show how lazy people have become. People cannot even pick up a remote anymore lol. I can hold and use my ipazzport mini keyboard and Fire TV remote at the same time. After the update a couple weeks back the cursor disappeared on the home launcher and sytem menus so I started having to use my remote again, and since up to that point I rarely used it, now I have to and its not a problem to hold both my keyboard and remote. I understand that this is not the same as my example, but if I can hold two remote sized devices in y hands at once, then most anyone else could too. The product is nice and a cool concept, but its too much. Kids in Africa walk 10 miles for dirty water and some people can't even hold two remotes. Something is wrong with that picture. Good luck to them on their kickstarter though.

You do realise that the very concept of a remote control is 'laziness' in itself, I once had an old TV where you had to go to the unit itself because it didn't have a remote control.
People have always sought to make lives more convenient, that's one reason why the remote was invented in the first place and personally, while I wouldn't buy one, a device like this would be convenient for me as I only ever use my TV remote for power, source and volume (it would also help prevent wear and tear on said remote).
So before you use 'first world problems' in a post again, look around you and think because chances are you've spent allot of money on things which would have helped those people for what could be considered 'laziness'.
I like lazy and convenient. Kids in Africa walking 10 miles for dirty water has nothing to do with me wanting to consolidate from 2 or 3 remotes down to 1. Having a FireTV and a TV to connect it to is all about being lazy. No matter what people have, it could always be better, easier, more convenient. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. I'd like to think it's better to have a FireTV with a 60" 1080p flat screen than a 13" black and white tube TV with bunny ears for reception and a twisty knob you have to get up to turn if you want to watch something different.
This isn't the right thread or even the right forum for first-world shaming, but I'm sure if you google around you can find a different site for that.

Looks Great, but I'm sure there are other remotes out there right now that can replace all of my remotes, even my FireTv...
I don't think the product looks that ugly. It seems to fill a niche that the manufacture left wide open. Nice project.
Sorry, but that looks awful and cumbersome. Might as well use duct tape....

Even the mic? Not saying you are wrong, but I'm not aware of any universal remotes with a mic that would work with the FireTV.

It's not the greatest design - I'd have tried to design it a bit different (not sure of the technical difficulties of what I have in mind), but considering how small the FireTV remote is in the first place this thing doesn't look too bad. Well, it doesn't look cumbersome anyway.
At this point it doesn't look like it will get funded. The deadline is Thursday and they have over $40,000 to go. That's too bad.

Too bad, and a bit surprising. Assuming the pictures are of working prototypes and they have the patents (or pending patents) already in place, I'm surprised they need $150k to start producing them.

Ok, I'm getting this "phone". I've been sitting around waiting for a release date for what seems like a year now, lol.
Here is my one request, from the marvelous XDA dev community, who has never ceased to amaze me in the years I've been here.
I want this thing to do HDMI out. I'm not talking pushing a YouTube video out of the HDMI port, I want to see Android on my 24" monitor. I want to be able to use a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard to run the controls, and I want to be able to dock my Streak and use it on a larger display. 720p/1080p would be a huge bonus, but I have no idea what limitations are in place there.
Ok, that's it. Make that happen, and I will be very happy.
If you pay £55 for the Dell Home AV Kit it will do this I believe......
Granted, I don't have a Streak on which to try it out...but isn't that only for videos (YouTube, video files, etc)? As far as I'm aware, you don't get the actual desktop, right?
I don't have one either, but in a video I saw it appeared that the dock only pushes the video through the HDMI and not the android "desktop."
I too would love to be able to do this though!
Ah right thats not too good then, the Samsung Galaxy seems to be TV-Out and just replicated the system as on the screen, I'm thinking of buying a Nokia N900 to play with as it has TV out and would let me play SNES / Mega Drive games etc when I'm in a hotel room.
I wonder if full TV Out is something we could hack
£55 is a lot for just movies out...i was hoping for full android on my big tv

Yeah, that's for sure. Big deal, if I wanna watch just movies, I'll find a computer and do it. The power of HDMI-out is in being able to use Android on your phone on the go, and then docking it and using it as a netbook-replacement when at a desk (or as a HTPC when in the living room, etc.)
Give it a few months once the Chinese get their hands on it and they will churn out the Accessories and flood ebay
I need this also for a bmw idrive integration. I'm sure the community will crack it.

I just bought a BMW with the new 1280 pix CiC I-Drive display. With a Motorola Bionic, I'm hoping to send TV to the phone via SlingBox and send the HDMI out from the phone to the display in the car.
Thoughts?
I've had this transformer since it came out. Dont use it much, except when I need to finish up some work on the road which is the reason why I bought it...having the flexibility of keyboard...
Are you still excited about it? What purpose does it serve you? Whats your favorite feature?
I just bought an HDMI to mini HDMI cable so I could connect it at my in laws T.V and my children can watch Netflix or movies we have purchased on Amazon. Any other use for it?
Thank you for your suggestions.
The TF101 is a great device! I've had it almost as long as it's been out and I still love it. If you are having a hard time finding a use for it then you either didn't really need a tablet in the first place or are not looking at its full potential. I use mine for everything, it has totally replaced my laptop. Android has tons of productivity and office apps, apps for sharing documents and other work, loads of games, eBook reading apps, etc., etc.
Any device can be written off as not necessary, after all people can get along just fine with no electronic devices at all (I used to work and live in a wilderness training camp myself). The key to revitalizing the shine on any tablet is to start using it for everyday things and to try changing the look and feel. Try doing something on it that you would normally do on a laptop or PC, after the initial shift in feel you may find that you like the tablet more. You could also try a new ROM to change the look, feel, and performance. If all of this seems like too much work then maybe you should just sell it and move on...tablets are not the answer for everyone.
Sent from my Asus TF101 using Xparent Cyan Tapatalk 2
If you need others to remind you what you should use your tablet for, then maybe you don't really need one?
I'm not at all saying this to mock you, I purchased a TF101 myself and have the dock too. I use the tablet for Netflix, casual news reading and a little bit of playing games like Machinarium and Rayman Jungle Run. I intended to use it for Skype as well, but the mic volume was always too low so I gave up on that and went back to my laptop for Skype.
My three year old son uses the tablet a lot more than I do for watching videos and playing games in Zoodles Kid Mode.
The dock I use for one thing and one thing only: backup battery when traveling - what a waste of money! (for me)
I like having a tablet even though I'm far from a heavy user and I like my TF101. That said, I'm tempted to get a Nexus 7 and let the Transformer call it a day.
It's convenient, small, and can do everything... well almost. I mostly use it at work to connect to switches, serial ports, etc. That way I don't have to carry the macbook around. Then at home it becomes a remove for my TV device, a portable crappy-game station, a small OGT TV for streaming from the SAN, etc. There's so many uses!

I love my TF101. Best part is the "instant on" feature. When I need to quickly check something quickly on the Internet without waiting for my laptop or desktop to boot.
How about buying a Bluetooth OBD II adapter (less than $20 on Amazon) buy the app "Torque" and for $25.00 you have an excellent OBD2 diagnostic tool. I have one and it works great!
Rodger
I just use my transformer to output video to my TV. Other than that, not many uses. Used to use it a lot more when I was using my Nexus S.
Now that my phone is more superior (in specs) to my Transformer, I use it a lot less and less.
Would I get another tablet? Probably not because it doesn't fit my needs. For some people, it fits into theirs. For me, I use my desktop a lot so a tablet doesn't necessarily replace anything for me. I find some uses for it when I'm reading on the go though, although this semester it wasn't needed as much--others it was more handy.
Just kind of hard to find the balance between tablet and phone usages, in my opinion.
Was extremely excited to flash ROMs and all that on my TF101, but now that the community isn't as active (most has shifted to other devices) this has gone downhill.
bedtime surfing
I only really use mine for bedtime surfing, youtube and occasionally Music. I like playing with different ROMs and now I'm trying to get Plasma Active (Ubuntu.... proper Linux) on it.
I use mine for a multitude of things, from inventory control, web surfing, submitting customer orders, receiving inventory, word processing, spread sheets, games, and more often then not when I am out camping. I go camping A LOT in summer here in Alaska, so it is a lot easier to tote around the TF101 then it is to tote around my 17" Toshiba laptop.
My tf also serves as my GPS in the car when I'm on the road visiting customers. Tethered to my phone just for the web connectivity since I did not get the 3G version. Honestly the TF has changed the way that I use computers and my work. Yes the "instant on" feature is very nice. But the portability and feature rich ability is the sole reason I wanted one.
Let's see: internet, email, netflix, crackle, remote into home pc and most importantly as a head unit in my truck, lol! Since it is my head unit, I use it almost everyday.

I was really disappointed to learn that this doesn't have HDMI passthru. I was hoping that the whole user experience would be an overlay on the video signal like what they are doing with the new Xbox. Are there any rumors of other manufacturers that will be making hardware for this platform that might be doing HDMI passthru or does Android TV just not support that at this time?
What? DAMNIT!! Was hoping that it would be able to replace my Logitech Revue, which I would then move to the den! UGH!!! Nevermind, may not buy this then, or just get it for the den. This sucks!!
I don't understand why you guys expected hdmi passthrough. There was no mention of it at IO and I think they even came out and said they were not going that route anymore. AndroidTV is about the future which means all streaming, all in one box, one input. Use a HTPC and an XBMC front end to watch live and recorded tv on the nexus players and there is no longer a need for any STB so no need for HDMI passthrough. This is what I do already with my firetvs [emoji106]

Whether or not that is the future or not remains to be seen. Regardless it is far from being a mainstream viewing approach for the life of this product. The vast majority of consumers will continue to have a cable or satellite service for the forseeable future.

did you even watch the keynote?
android TV is about software - not hardware. it has a tv input framework built right in so manufacturers can take advantage of lots of different tv input options, be it integrated dvb, hdmi input, sat>ip etc.
the nexus player is the first of a long line of android tv devices., no, it does not have hdmi in - but that does not mean that other boxes in the future from different manufacturers wont.
they are actively working with STB manufacturers so that one day - you might not even need to use hdmi input and it will all be done over IP.
all this talk of using xbmc as a frontend is a bit stupid when android tv has it built right in. you just need to be patient for more hardware to come on the market.

Have there been any other vendors that have definitely announced products coming or is everything a rumor this point?

Using xbmc as a front end isn't stupid though as that works today while nothing else I am aware of does. Of course if a better method of getting live tv and DVR functionality on android tv comes along I will be more than willing to switch to whatever is the BEST method for my purposes.

I figured this would happen because of the shield. tv. Amazon selling MOJO for $99.99 now.
Nah, I think it's just temporary. Bought my MOJO for the same price 5 months ago. They decrease the price every couple of months or so, and jump them back to the $130-145 range.
I doubt it, I think the MOJO was bad financially for madcatz.. I'm guessing it's stock clearing.

Thats a shame. The MOJO is an incredibly frustrating device out of the box but, once you figure out fixes to all it problems/quirks? It becomes an absolute MUST-HAVE device.
One of these days i'm going to make a thread detailing all my fixes for the MOJO. Right now i'm working on my last one:
Which is being able to connect to PC to load/modify files. Merely connecting the MOJO to the PC with USB is simply not going to happen. Someone suggested Samadroid, which is a method of connecting android devices over Wi-Fi, eliminating the hassles of USB drivers in windows. Seemed to work great.
However, just when i thought i had conquered the MOJO i have a new problem: Everytime i try to delete or modify a file on my SD card in the MOJO using Sambadroid, i get an error saying "permission is needed for access" or whatever. So far nothing I've tried had worked, including rebooting Windows 7 in safe mode.
Any help or suggestions?
I just put a FTP server on android, it starts in the background and is always running.
Then use filezilla (cuteftp or flashfxp etc.) to hook into the MOJO.
I use it for my MINIX boxes as well as it saves having to hook a USB cable up to them. Ive got ethernet connection to all my Android boxes so it's actually faster than transferring via USB as well
Didn't I tell you the price would jump back again? lol
I have been watching the price for the device ever since it came out. The $99 price tag occured at least 4 times now.

Yeap, your right. That price is ridiculous, you get so much for your money with the shield Tv. I advise every to spend the extra 50 bucks for the shield Tv. I bought two of them, and they seriously kick ass. Fiber optics is a must if you want to use Grid service. I just switched from TWC to Bell Fiber optics and I am now paying less actually for much better service.

The shield Tv has a cooling fan in it though. Like most devices of this type, its most likely proprietary and can't be easily fixed. Once that fan dies, you might as well chuck the box. One cool thing about the MOJO is it is fanless, and thus future-proof.
The MOJO is pretty awesome once you figure out it quirks. Although I admit that most will quit long before they do so. I was in love with the idea of the MOJO from the get-go, so i had a lot of incentive not to give up out of frustration everytime the MOJO shot down my attempts to get it to function properly.

You will definitely need my help then. Because the MOJO is a colossal pain in the A$$.
I've been meaning to make a thread detailing all my fixes & solutions for it but, not till I've fixed the last one. Which is ease of file transfer (without actually removing my SD card each and every time i want to add/modify files). Been kinda procrastinating on that one lately.

For one thing, to get the most out of the MOJO, you need to root it. Mad Catz actually have tutorials on their site.
However, it MUST be connected to a PC for it to work. One of the many problems MOJO has, is the complete inability to connect the console to a PC by USB, and have it be properly recognized. Which makes rooting 100x more difficult.
Thankfully, there is an app that exists which you can download onto your MOJO from the internet. Its called Towelroot(V1.0) and is extremely easy to use. Once you've downloaded the app, launch it, click yes to root, your MOJO will reboot itself, and come back rooted. Only V1.0 will work!
Here's the link to the one i used:
http://www.mediafire.com/download/oxrryya4ffs4w6u/tr-1.apk
Thanks for the suggestion. Just received the Mojo a few hours ago. So far installed and ran towelroot, then supersu, GMD auto hide, Set Orientation, ES file explorer, and Amazon App store.

I have an app on my MOJO, i think its called "Fullscreen!". It gets rid of the bottom button row, and instead places two lil'transparent nubs on the bottom right & left corners of the screen. For home and back button functionality.
Does your mojo output sound on both 720p as well as 1080p? One problem i had is the image was too damned zoomed in on 1080p, losing the edges of the screen. On 720p it looked perfect but.... no sound output! Finally i downloaded an app that let me adjust the 1080p resolution/size to something that is much better. Its still not perfect but, i get 99.11% of my image now, as opposed to 84%. prior to the app.
And have you had any luck connecting the unit to a PC by USB and getting a computer to recognize it? After trying tons of android USB drivers, getting my windows 7 comp to properly recognize the MOJO just wasn't going to happen.
The MOJO was a massive pain in the A$$ but, i'm glad i stuck with it. Emulators on this thing run like a dream. PPSSPP, a Sony PSP emulator, runs great.
The GMD Auto Hide app basically does the same thing as the fullscreen one you're talking about. It hides the bottom row but they'll reappear when you mouse over them.
So far I'm in 1080p with full sound. No issues there. Maybe because of your TV brand? I have mine hooked up to an LG 50LN5400.
I have not tried to plug the MOJO into my PC yet. I've only used the FTP server or just place roms onto a micro xdsc. I'll give it a shot and let you if it works or not.
I agree about the emulators. The MOJO is a fantastic box for emulation. Sure, I could run all of them on my PC, but I'd rather kick back in my lazy boy, fire up a game using a controller with beer in hand

nice idea, but why don't you just buy yourself a cheap Android set-top box that you can put up. Almost every box comes with a LAN port
what does a good entry level streaming device go for or would you pay for...?
The Amazon fire tv cost me $39.99 the ORICO 3-Port HUB with RJ45 Ethernet port was $7.00, generic Lego plate $0.55c and a CPU fan free from an old busted up pc...
putting it all together and standing back and marvel at my greatness... PRICELESS...!!!

mmmmm....?
looks like you did your homework pritty well Mr. rainman74 as all those media players that you just posted is laggy and the hardware always fights with the software, my entire build cost me under $48.00, I'll bet you if you have to honest review pro and cons of media players under $60 you probably wanna have your own Fire Tv or Amazon device, I've done the exact same thing to my second gen, and ill probably say once you have owned an Amazon device you would never ever show people that crappy android boxes.
this was a cool build( out of the box thinking? ) that took only an hour to build and it was loads of fun.
... coming soon to your closes xda-developers...!!! gaaht show you how to extend your 1st and 2nd Gen Amazon Fire TV Stick Wifi range and keeping is cool at the same time... dahm dahm daaaaahm

drawn, but which you don't consider, your Fire TV 3 has the same crappy processor as these cheap Android boxes (Amlogic S905z) and mostly have got even newer versions, so you're not so far away
I would choose a couple of devices over the fire tv 3rd generation. The list @rainman74 posted. Especially the GooBang Doo. Amazon really fail with their devices.

I agree with all the newer Amazon boxes and all sticks, except the Fire TV 2. gen box 4k is still as good as unbeaten in price/performance ratio until today, if you rule out the old Android 5.1

the Goobang Doo Abox A1 max is not a bad box but had to get rid of it because of laggy bootup , remote issues, naggy OS and the fact that I couldn't unroot it (comes out stock rooted) as most of my apps wouldn't run because of that and the bright clock on it when you in a dark room
for me, I like a box that works where hardware doesn't fight with software, plug in and play that even the kids, mom and pop could use with minimal tutorial, yes it has the so-called crappy Amlogic S905z but its perfect, I only stream nothing else if there was a need for anything else Nvidia Shield would do the job...

ok, then it is great that the Fire TV 3 is sufficient for you :good:
Fire is Fine Gaaht
When I saw this I just had to jump in and add my tiny piece to this. First of all Gaaht don't let anyone tell you that Fire TV is junk the 3rd gen is a great little device and the out of box thinking you had to add to it was clever the one thing Mr Rain neglected to to say when he started to criticize your choice in a box, was what are you looking for as far as the device itself? In other words, what more do you want it to do? And not for nothing Rain, but going to Amazon and typing in Android TV box isn't really doing a heck of a lot of research I've been messing with these things for gosh the last 5 Years now. And the choices that I saw on yours were semi okay. Let's face facts you just punched in Android TV Box and whatever came up came up, it's not like you recommended him a box. It's hard to even do that not knowing what his wants and needs are! I myself have a Fire TV 3rd gen and one of the main reasons that I got one was because I have a lot of Alexa integrated into my home does it mean that it's a crappy box it does what I needed to do and yes I've added peripherals to it and sorry Raahn. Adding a OTG cable that has peripheral USBS or ethernet on it there's nothing magical far of a development team. But none the less you were thinking out of the box, now if you can only answer what it is that you really want out of that box we might be able to help. And not to cut it to short but it does have limitations. It's main purpose as a device is to offer streaming and that is truly about it. While we can push the limitations it's got 2gb/and in all honesty about 5gb after all is set up and let's not pretend to make this some kind of budget Shield device with a mali/450. Hit us with what you came to ask? And what you want?!
