[Q] Issue with com.android.phone on CM11. - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Hello there, I am looking for help solving an issue on CyanogenMod 11. My original goal was to install Kali Linux on my Galaxy S4 using Linux Deploy. I tried many different methods to root, but the one that ended up working was using Odin3 to flash a kernel, then using towelroot to root the device. After I had rooted, I tried to install Kali, but I found that SELinux was enforced, so I couldn't install it. I found out that CyanogenMod had it set to permissive, so I used Safestrap 3.73 to wipe the phone and install.
Every single time CM opens, I only get "Unfortunately, The process com.android.phone has stopped". I am able to select thing on CM in the brief time span before another error pops up. I have tried using the latest jflte nightly and snapshot, jflteatt nightly and snapshot, and gapps for 4.4.3, 4.4.4, and 5.0. The only ones that show Cyanogen are the jflte.
I am willing to do anything that will allow the phone to work again, preferably with CyanogenMod. All of my data is backed up, so anything will work. Thank you for any help!

AOKP; SuperUser/SU & Titanium

I rooted my T-Mobile LG G2 (D801) and the firmware screen shows the red ROOTED. Also ran Root checker and it says the same. Then I ran TWRP and titanium backup... everything is fine. I then flashed several ROMS (hellfire, paranoid, cm11) all is well.
However, when I ran AOKP unofficial build compiled on 12/27/13 and try to install titanium it says I'm not rooted. Checked the firmware screen - still Red root, but when I run root checker: sorry this device doe not have PROPER root access.
Loaded titantium, because I think this might be the issue. Error message: Sorry, I could not acquire root privileges. This attempt was made using */system/bin/su" command.
Is it looking in the wrong area?
UPDATE:
Problem was with the build of AOKP. Installed the nightly from 2-8-14 and the issue was resolved... hope this helps someone having similar issues.
download and flash the superuser app via recovery. open app and update binaries.
victory
Thanks, but the problem was the AOKP build.

Hello,
I installed latest nightly lollipop build of CM to my Note 3 and along with that gapps-lp-20141109-signed.zip

I have already tried adb shell am force-stop com.google.android.setupwizard but it didn't help
I already installed CM 12 without problems so I think it's gapps problem so I recommended to you to install pa gapps use the following link to download

Galaxy S4 i9505- Not Rooting Through Any Apps

S4 i9505 not rooting through any apps
Hi, I recently flashed cm12.1 on my S4 i9505 and its working fine.
I need a working GApps package, I tried flashing 2 PA GApps(mini and micro), updated version which is TK GApps(mini), and also cleared calvik cache before and after flashing them as some forums suggested, but none of them worked and all Google apps keep crashing as soon as I boot in CM even the keyboard.
The 2nd issue: My phone is not rooted anymore and I tried a couple of rooting android and windows apps but none seem to root my phone, fails everytime. The errors which I faced are below.
Framaroot: "Your device seems not vulnerable to exploit included in Framaroot"
iRoot (android): "GT- i9505 No Root Permission"
iRoot (windows): "Device is connecting
eRoot (windows): Stuff written in chinese and no root button available as mentioned in different forums"
KingoRoot: "Root Strategy unavailable, just try it"
TowelRoot: Stuck on make it ra1n and after a while "towelroot stopped responding"
Root Checker: "Root checker has stopped working"
3rd Issue: I tried installing playstore apk till I get my GApps working, but it crashes everytime I open it, any solutions?
Thanks

1. Gapps: http://opengapps.org/
2. You cannot loose root acces on CM. It's impossible. You just need to activate it in developer settings and after that flash Supersu (optional). All the apps etc you tried is completely obsolete.
3. See post number 1.

I already have root access set to "apps and ADB" in developer options. is this what you're referring to?

Yes.
I would suggest performing a full wipe then flash CM and then the Gapps.
or you can try to just flash Supersu and your root will probably be back.

I tried your suggestion, did a full wipe and flashed CM successfully through TWRP, the flashed GApps successfully, and SuperSU also, but just before rebbot, TWRP asked for "fix root" and when i swiped for yes, the reboot brought me back to Samsung logo and never rebooted CM... waited for about 15 mins before pulling the battery out...
I tried to flash CM and a stock firmware through odin then and now it says "Firmware upgrade failed, try KIES...... " odin fails to flash anything and gives error "No PIT Partition", even if I try to flash PIT files (tries 4 different files for i9505), all failed....
now I can only access download mode and lost TWRP too...
help please!
Install a stock ROM through Download Mode. This will get you back to a working state. From there get TWRP and then install CM12.1. And this time around, follow instructions! At no point were you EVER told you had to fix root, and as you found out, fixing root removes root access.
Honestly mate I was on CM for a while with my i9505 intl before deciding to try something else. I recommend this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2557353 . either the latest 5.1 or previous 5.0.1 release, they are both rock solid and there's great support for it too. They've even packaged cm addons as optional flash files.

Sorry forgot to mention it's a Google play edition so rest assured your gapps come included.

I Don't Know What I'm Doing Anymore!

Hello everyone,
this is my first time posting on the XDA forums after doing a lot of research, so please bear with me if I've missed something painfully obvious. My issue I'm looking to get help with is my AT&T GS4 i337.
Here goes the problem, initially I had the FNJ4 (4.4.4) baseband and build number. I was really excited to try custom ROM's like CM11 or 12. I ended up reflashing the phone via odin with baseband and build number FNB1 with a rootable kernel (titled I337UCUFNB1_TWRootable_Full_Odin.tar 4.4.2). This successfully worked as did using TowelRoot (v3) to root. Since the reflash, I cannot seem to load CWM or TWRP much less access even the factory recovery mode on startup (it goes to the "unable to boot into normal mode" screen). And today, I was messing around with the "Disable Service" app and accidentally unchecked the box to turn off the service for SuperSu (even though I re-checked the box, I still lost root). And now I cant even run the tr.apk file to successfully root again - what I mean is the tr.apk installs and says I have root, but then when I check the root with root checker basic it says the phone has not been successfully rooted.
On a side note, I did find a flashable recovery .zip version of SuperSu (2.46) app to get the app back except now, shortly after startup, the app service turns itself off and I loose SuperSu again. I really don't know what to do.
I have tried messing with Terminal Emulator, Flashify, TWRP manager, ROM manager, ODIN and Titanium Backup to try and get SuperSU (to get root) and the factory recovery mode back (I also tried using Safetrap to install CWM and TWRP without success). The only program I haven't messed with is flashing with Heimdall. Oh yeah, I also tried using SELinux Mode Changer (changed mode to permissive) without any success.
I know this is getting super long, but my initial intent was just to be able to run CM11 or CM12 and customize the phone the way I want it. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm not sure how to prioritize these problems.
The bootloader of the AT&T S4 SGH-I337 is locked. This means you can not install a custom kernel or a custom recovery, and thus you are limited to touchwiz based firmware. You can have custom firmware based on touchwiz, however, you will not be able to have CyanogenMod or any other aosp based firmware.
I would suggest that you repeat the process: flash stock NB1, the rootable kernel, root with towelroot, and install SuperSU as you did before, and then depending on where you want to end up, install safestrap or upgrade to Lollipop with the keeproot method. Look in the general forum for threads by guut13 and muniz_ri.

Got it. Thank you very much for responding so quickly! I'm new to this whole thing (the world of installing custom ROM's and the like) and I'm finding that so many details (Root/firmware/baseband/kernel/ROM compatibility) are so much more dependent on carrier and model number than I ever imagined. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction by helping me understand my limitations. Now its time to do a little more research.....

sm-j5nltexx - v. sm-j5nlte

For a few days now i have being trying to install a customer ROM on my Samsung J5, EVERY ROM i have downloaded has failed with errors stating that the ROM is for J5nlte NOT for j5nltexx even if the file name has been relating to j5nltexx.
I have tried to change/remove the assert line in the install package with no success.
has anybody got/or can recommend a ROM that WILL work with samsung J5 (j5nltexx) - I Currently have a phone that will not boot into a ROM, but will happily boot into TWRP 3.1.1-0
***Update***
The CM13 firmware installed and initially booted, but then went into a boot loop at "optimising apps", still unable to successfully install a custom ROM of any sort, tried Skies and ASUX both didn't boot, even with an Aroma aware TWRP install (confirmed by attempting to install CM13)
Since rebuilding with a "greek" factory ROM, my phone is now showing as sm-j5lte anymore advise will be well recieved
Thanks in Advance
