tried this and the install failed when running supersu then got stuck on boot loop
Has anyone else had any success rooting this variant?
HI
You have to install a custom recovery and flash it via latest version of ODIN available (higher than 3.0.9). Then get cf auto root tool and copy it to your SD card. Install it via recovery.

Hi folks! I have a Galaxy S4 GPE, rooted and unlocked, but stock otherwise. When I try to run the OTA update for 4.4.3, the phone reboots into TeamWin recovery and appears to start installing. The install errors out though. Can I not install the OTA update because I'm rooted? If so, would reverting the rooting allow me to install? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

Is there a thread on how to do that? I seem to remember when I installed this recovery tool to root the phone, it wiped everything. Is it going to do that again? Because I don't want to have to keep wiping my phone every time a new Android update comes out just to be rooted.

I went through that method, and it's essentially the same thing, except that I'm downloading the actual update file myself and not letting Android handle it. Needless to say it didn't work. I also updated my TWRP to 2.7.1.0 and tried; no luck. I also uninstalled SuperSU to see if removing root would help. It didn't.

Hi
I am hoping someone can help me please?
My phone was already rooted and not really had any issue up until yesterday.
I have been trying to get a lollipop ROM onto my phone. In the process i decided that it would be wise to update my TWRP recovery to the latest using the play store TWRP app. Having done that, when i now try to get to recovery, the phone hangs on the 'Reovery Booting...' message.
How can I move forward from here? Am i able to flash the original version of the TWRP using odin again?
Thanks in advance

Yes, maybe the TWRP Manager detected one update (TWRP 2.8.5.0) and installed it but this version have bugs. It was deleted of the official page of TWRP too. Flash via ODIN the older version (TWRP 2.8.4.0) and all will be solved. Good luck :highfive:.
I used Nandroid manager to flash the img of twrp when I rooted my phone. Because Odin failed to flash it.
Hello!
I want to finally install a custom rom for my phone (GT-I9301I) but to do that I want to install TWRP. Every tutorial on how to install TWRP just use odin and phone in download mode despite the fact that in a lot of places it is said that you need to have an unlocked bootloader to flash a custom recovery. (Also in CF-auto root webpage it is stated that bootloader needs to be unlocked). But do I really need to unlock the bootloader (yes, I am new to this) to flash a custom recovery when using Odin? And after the TWRP is installed I can just use CF auto root and then install the ROM, right?
I would greatly appreciate your help !
Thanks in advance,
TheKiloOhm
I'm pretty sure, that S3Neo+ has an unlocked bootloader.
There is a way to flash a recovery without a PC. Use Flashify just from the Play Store.

But I need root access which I can get by flashing CF auto root.
Is Towelroot considered as a common rooting tool?

Is there a way I can check it? When I boot into recovery it doesn't show anything about lock/unlock state.

Well.. Try booting to download mode. (Vol. and center button down on boot). If you want to root you should download custom recovery. I recommend TWRP.
Ok, first of all..
I AM REALLY HAPPY SOMEONE MENTIONED THIS AT LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAST
Now.. I have this device.. and mine is bootloader locked
our s3ve3g is definitely locked...
and I tried to flash TWRP using ODIN and I ended up looping (Read)
So Take Care ...
Been trying to find a way to unlock this thing for a while now... will post my findings here or on my blog if I ever find anything
Edit: Did I mention that some variants of our specific device are locked and some are not !!
and I can't figure out the difference...
Found this
and it pointed me to this
but I don't have time to test now...
OK... I think I found the answer...
According to IanWorthington
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=66377330#post66377330
FIXED: This TWRP requires 4.4.4. It does NOT work on 4.3.
Samsug bidn't lock bootloader for s3 neo i have a i9301i and i can do anything with it recoevry root vustom rom kernel flashing. ANYITHING. So i think it deneds on serial nunber or something
EDIT: First of all, thanks for the responses. Second of all, I messed up. I ran a script that I found online called root.sh (I can't link anything until I get to 10 posts). I used that and it didn't work and unrooted me. I tried rebooting my phone(worst idea every) and now it's in a bootloop. I don't think I have root access and I've tried a factory reset. I didn't get any custom recovery and my phone is stuck in a bootloop. I have no idea how to get out of this. Any help is 100% appreciated.
I'm sorry if this is the wrong section but, I couldn't find a section for the M919V. So I recently rooted my Galaxy S4 SGH-M919V running lollipop 5.0.1 using the PC version of Kingoroot. I've been looking for a way to replace Kingo Superuser with SuperSu. I can only seem to find anything about replacing Kinguser/Kingroot (not Kingo Superuser). I would keep Kingo Superuser but, after a reboot it doesn't allow any apps to use root access even though it says it is. I have to keep uninstalling and reinstalling Kingo Superuser and waiting then it finally fixes by it's self (currently it's broken) . SuperSu-Me says I don't have Kingroot (once again, not Kingoroot). I've also tried a script but, once again, it didn't work. I know next to nothing about the inner workings of android phones so please keep any answers simple please.
Flash custom recovery.
Flash SuperSU.
Can't get any simpler.
The sgh-m919v is basically the same phone as the T-mobile S4. The sgh-m919v was issued by Canadian varriers that run an AWS network: https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SGH-M919V/
The t-mobile s4 forum is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-tmobile
Here's what I would do: flash a stock ROM via Odin to bring the phone back to a stock state and then root using cfautoroot if you want stock recovery or flash TWRP and flash supersu from TWRP.

Now, if you still want SuperSU, flash CF-Auto-Root.

You need a DEV to fix TWRP for your device because your TWRP you are using is for Android 6, it needs updating for working on android 8.1. Or if you want Twrp, you can downgrade to android 6 and flash it.
I tried downgrading but it says error bootloader binary 1...

The Twrp is only for android 6 and need a developer to maintain it and fix error with android 8.1. If you want twrp, just downgrade your tablet to android 6 and flash twrp.

Commonly TWRP will not install if you're using a version incompatible with the device, check to make sure. You should always have the original stock frimware on hand in case anything goes wrong. If you do encounter difficulties such as bootloops you can basically start over by flashing in the stock firmware in download mode via Odin3. Sometimes after flashing it may take a while for the device to fully boot up, I've had some take hours.

You have to wipe data after a downgrade.
