Hello! I dont know if this is the place where I can ask for replacement help. I have a Galaxy S4 which I am trying to change glass. The glue and the glass is attached so good that its almost impossible to remove from the LCD! I have changed over 5 Samsung S4's with no problem, but this one has a very ugly glue! It wont lose on the LCD. It take me ages before I can remove a little piece. Any suggest? I dont want to destroy my LCD!
I have been heating for ages, this one is really difficult.

Hi all
I have been looking at replacing my gf's galaxy s2 screen glass as she has dropped the phone and broken it. I was looking at the screen replacement guide but dont really want to replace the whole AMOLED if i dont have too, Ive got a new gorilla glass piece for the phone and i was wondering what people advise on how best to replace it. I have attached a picture of the phone tools and screen bellow.
I have seen the following thread which seams to have been a similar issue but im sure how the result turned out and i am PMing the user for more info.

Im have the same problem dude, and i decided to buy a galaxy nexus. I bought to glass replacement on ebay, but i dont know how to change it
I bought this same piece on ebay, but i can t find a tuto to learn how to change only the gorila glass....result: i have to buy the kit with gorila glass, amoled and touch...cost me 650 brl... About 250 usd with service ... Sorry for mt bad english
my friend had the same issue, he cant find the instructions either
I'm not entirely sure if it's true, but someone at ifixit posted that you can't replace the gorilla glass separately because the "glass, screen, and digitizer are laminated together" and that you'll need to purchase "a new screen assembly" if you want to repair cracks.

If it was me and I was truly desperate, I would disassemble the phone first and try using a hot blow gun to heat it up and try to pry it apart. Maybe put a heat sink on the other side where any electronic parts are cool. I highly do not recommend this, but I would feel that if I needed to replace the assembly anyways, what's the big deal if I break it.
Here is the disassembly instructions:

Where can i buy it
I have a galaxy s2
i accidentally hit the glass with my ring and now the screens shattered...
the glass is the only thing damaged ..
the amoled display, the touch, and the softkeys function perfectly...
I need to purchase a new glass...
the service centre suggests that i buy the whole panel...
which would be a bit too expensive for me...
if anyone knows where i could buy another glass... please pm me fast!!

Please, no posts saying it cannot be done, it can.
If you do this as a service and are in or around London, please reply or PM me.
My S3 is "Amber Brown" (Unique to Phones4U I think) but I do not care if the replacement part is not this colour.
Cheers!
Heat gun and steady hand is all that's needed. Good luck.

You can normally get it done by a Samsung Service Centre.
http://www.samsung.com/uk/servicelocator/ find it here. They should quote you a price. Cheers.

Yeah, I saw that from the video, and I am not too scared to mess with phones generally, but I am a little clumsy and as it is a screen, any slip of the knife would be catastrophic.(Plus I had a penknife close on me not so long ago, badly cutting my finger and knives still freak me out a bit)
Would happily pay someone £50 to do this for me, but no way I am paying £200 to replace a perfectly good LCD.

I did ask in the samsung centre in Tottenham Court Road and they seemed to think that the LCD needed replacing too, maybe I should try some more Samsung service centres because keeping the warranty would be nice as it is only a week old

No service center will replace the glass, they all change the whole screen.
I advice keeping the warranty and paying the 200, you won't regret it.
People that changed the glass (including my friend) all had it perfect, then it started lifting an air bubbles covered some parts of the screen, i know others that cracked the actual LCD when trying to change the glass.
The glass can be replaced easily. I've done it on my s3 and I can tell you that geting the broken glass off is a piece of cake. Just use a heat gun and a few guitar picks, work arround the edges and make sure that you maintain the screen hot, heating it up with the heat gun so that the adhesive is warm and softened the whole time.
The glass itself is made out of two layers, first layer is the transparent glass and under the glass there is a plastic layer that gives the glass its color.you want to stick the guitar pick under the second layer, stick a half of the pick under the glass and start applying preasure on the part of the pick that sticks out of the glass. Push the pick down, towards the table and the glass will start to get off. Use multiple guitar picks on multiple parts of the glass to make sure you dont brake the screen.
The hardest part of reinstalling the glass is getting it on without any dust between the lcd and the glass. Use the 3M adhesive sticke (ebay) precisely cut for the s3 and clean the adhesive on the housing and the LCD with which the original glass was glued. That's it, good luck!
Sorry mate, wish I could help. Good luck getting it replaced!

Next best option ...
I have found someone in the UK who offers this as a service, but he also offers an international service
ebay link:

I have no experience of using ebay for repair services which require sending the device off though, so I am cautious here. Am investigating if ebay offer any cover for scams etc.
I will post back here with my experiences.
hey guys anyone found a way to remove lcd from frame on Samsung s3
Think you heart the front lightly and get a tool to lift it out, then use a credit card to scrape underneath

Hi guys my S4 was dropped and when I tried replacing the glass I found out the glass under that one is also broken, the touch worked perfectly everywhere on the screen but now I need the glass between the outer one and the digitizer. When I took it out it kind of looks tinted, sorry but that's the best description I can give. Anyone know where I can get a new one? (Im asking about the glass between the top outer one and the digitizer)
Normally you need to replace the whole digitizer and outer glass. Its one part and costs a lot to replace. I learned the hard way fixed the screen on my note twice and now I bought an s4 and never take it out of my otter defender case.

So I basically broke the digitizer along with the already broken screen and have to spend $250 for a whole new digitizer?
EDIT: I think you might be right because when I turn it on the screen doesn't work, theres a faint line of light in the left corner and the notification light (blue when turning the phone on) and the menu and back buttons work.
I cant stress how good my otter defender case is. It saved my phone so many times. They r a bit bulky and ugly but it beats fixing it too much$$$. Especially the s4 it is a weak phone.

It is hard make they believe that. But you should have a try.
The glass, screen and frame are glued together tightly. It is a hard task to replace one part only.
Although you send it to repair store, they only help you to replace the whole display assembly for avoiding risk.
If you want to repair by yourself, I don't suggest to replace the glass only.
Separating the glass from screen, you have to keep heat gun on 80 degree. It is a very hard task for a freshman to separate the glass from screen and keep the screen prefect. It needs the professional skill and tools.
You can try to replace the S4 screen with glass and frame by yourself. It is not a hard job and will save a lot of money. BTW you must get the correct version of screen with digitizer and frame replacement part for your S4.
You can get original spare part from witrigs.com which offers repair guide.
Hello i have a samsung galaxy s4 i have broken screen any cheap original suggestion ? Thanks

From the looks, the LCD itself is still intact, so you can probably get replacement glass for a small price, then have someone who services phones do the work of replacing the glass. From what I've seen on YouTube, it's scary trying to do it yourself as the screen is very thin, and too easily broken if you make a mistake attempting to remove the glass.
Check in the Swappa boneyard and see if there are any of your model S4 with a bad IMEI or other non-screen issue. It may not be more economical than above, but you certainly would have less work involved in getting the device up and running.
