[Q] Automatic Muzak - Galaxy Tab 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Samsung Galaxy 4 running the latest OTA.. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I might be able to start a music streaming app such as Pandora or Rdio on a specific channel in the morning, and shut off in the evening? I see plenty of "sleep" timers for these apps, and i think a few have an "alarm" function. Is there already something geared towards this usage, or would i need to do something like Alarm Clock triggers Automate app triggers Sleep Timer? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks

Applications Like Tasker

I'm looking for an application like Tasker, which can automate certain tasks such as muting the phone between certain times when I'm at work or uni. Tasker was one of the winners of the ADC II, but it appears I am unable to get it to work on my phone.
What does XDA recommend as a good alternative?
Can't automate everything, but sure Toggle Settings can manage a lot of settings with scheduled profiles.
You need locale my friend.I use it to go to vibrate mode when I enter work, bluetooth on for the drive home, silent after 10pm, auto launch clock when docked, and finally turn wifi on when I am at home
Is there a free version of this or something similar, don't fancy spending a tenna on this

Thanks guys. Locale is great.
There is one problem with it, where it won't let me access manage applications. Not an issue for me though, I prefer the ASTRO Applicaiton manager which doesn't crash.

App Hibernation issues??

Hey guys and gals,
Trying to figure out this issue on my phone and can't for the life of me so I was hoping someone could shed some light on this. My basic problem is that my apps seem to be hibernating prematurely, eg. my alarm clock(gentle alarm) doesn't go off in the morning because its disabled, HD widgets does not update time and weather like it should etc. The phone is rooted and I have greenify installed, tried unhibernating them in greenify and removing greenify altogether with no success. I was trying to think of anything that was installed recently that could be causing conflict but the only thing recently installed was adaware. Anyone have a similar issue or can recommend a fix? Not having an alarm clock is driving me nuts :crying:.
Thanks guys

I use Greenify also and have not experienced this problem. Are you using Titanium Backup (or similar app) to remove or freeze an app/process/function? If so, then that might be where your problem originates. It can be difficult to determine exactly what the consequences are of freezing some of those Samsung, com.xxx, etc. files.

Yes I have a bunch of stuff frozen but my problem didn't start until just a couple days ago..........Strange, guess I'll have to page through and see by process of elimination if I can get it to work. Thanks for the help :fingers-crossed:

[Q] Disabling Phone Alarms on Wear

About a week ago, Google updated their Clock app in the Play Store to include dismissing alarms from Wear. This means that both my phone and watch vibrate next to my head every morning, which is an unnerving way to start the day. I've tried blocking the clock app's notifications on Wear, but that doesn't disable it. Does anyone know how to stop the watch vibrating?

There's currently no way around it, I have the same issue. I'm currently disabling bluetooth on my device when I go to bed until I get up again.
Sorry for resurrecting this thread, but I found a workaround for this issue: You can disable an internal service of the new app that synchronizes alarm information between your phone and your watch. You need a rooted phone and an app called Disable Service. Open the app, navigate to the System tab, choose the Clock app and remove the check box from WearableSyncService. Alternatively, you may run the following command via adb:
Code:
adb shell su -c "pm disable com.google.android.deskclock/com.android.deskclock.WearableSyncService"
This effectively prevents all phone alarms from going off on your watch.
Install another alarm app
The only easy fix I was able to find is to use different alarm app than Google's.
I found Timely to be just as good without the annoying Android Wear issue.

Screen Turns on Every 6 Hours

My 6P, like every other Android device I have had, turns the screen on every day at 12:00 AM, 12:00 PM and 6:00 PM. It has to be an app that I install on all my Android devices, but I have been unable to nail it down. I am running the latest 7.1.1 dev preview. I'm not rooted. Does anyone know of a program I can install that will tell me which app is activating my screen every 6 hours? Sometimes the screen will only stay on for a short while, while other times, if I don't catch it, the screen will stay on for several minutes (of course eating the battery).
If anyone can help with an app suggestion or other ideas to find out which app is doing this, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
No one has a suggestion for an app that can tell me which app is turning on the screen every six hours?
Oh and there should be a 6:00 AM in there as well.
I guess the best way would be to go through the logs?? Not sure of any app as such.

Are there not apps that show wakelocks? Isn't turning on the screen even worse than a wakelock? I'm surprised that no one else has this issue. I can't be the only one that has an app that does this. Someone else must load the same app but to date I haven't been able to figure out which app does it or find anyone else who has the same app and problem.
Also, not sure where to even find the logs you speak of? Can anyone help or at least point me in the direction that I can read up on and try to find out which app it might be? Thanks.
You won't see anything unless you are rooted.
Only you can find the app.
Use dichotomy
Uninstall apps from A to M.
Test
OK go on with installing from N to S
NOT OK uninstall from F to M.
Test
etc..
For 128 apps you'll need 7 tests.
For 256 apps you'll need 8 tests.
Have fun ?

LOL...Yeah, I thought about this but c'mon...that's crazy to go app by app to try and find the culprit. Really don't want to root on the Beta Program with this phone so that's not going to happen. Sucks there isn't an app that could let me know which app is turning on the screen at that time without root. I tried GSam Battery Monitor, but it was no help unfortunately.
I was referring to logcat, but I assumed that we could make use of root, it's a lot harder without root. If you pulled a logcat to schedule a min before and end a minute after the event, it would be more than enough to find what's triggering the screen wake..
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Yeah, sorry, no root. I usually don't bother rooting my phones. At least the pure Nexus phones. Really no need to with straight Android and consistent updates from Google. Guess I'll never know what app is doing it. Oh well.
Depends... I personnaly don't need a specific ROM, I might need a kernel for better battery. But I definitely need root. Why? Because of exactly this: logcat on all processes and wakelocks monitoring ?
And more generally because I want to access to all features of my phone.
Oh don't get me wrong, I know why people root. I just couldn't be bothered to do it myself with a phone that runs pure Android like the 6P. I never said there was no reason to root, just said I don't do it myself.
Maybe list all your apps here?
sent from my pixelated Nexus 6p
Hmmmm....that would be a pretty big list.
hard to help you then. without knowing what you have on it, how can we make a suggest? frankly, it will take time to chase it down as you dont want to root.

Yeah, I get that. In order to root, I need to unlock the bootloader right? So total wipe. Really don't want to wipe and start over. Thanks anyway. Wish there was an app that didn't need root that would tell me which app is the cause. I have 123 apps installed. Would take forever to list them here.

this happens with mine too, i am using resurrection remix MM.
but happens with whatever rom base i am.
i dont have ambient display on or anything like daydream.
and it happens randomly, i think it is the proximity sensor that turns it on by itself.
because the way it happens for me is ,i grab the phone and dont even press any button and it turns itself on
but i think it could be caused by the 'double tap to wake' gesture , do you have the option 'prevent accidental wake up' in the settings? it checks the proximity sensor prior to waking up the device, i personally havent tried this option yet, but i think this could fix the issue.
I don't have ambient display on either, but I can't imagine it is a proximity sensor issue. It happens every 6 hours right on the hour. Every day, every 6 hours, on schedule. An app has to be waking the screen.
Um, so @pickupman66, you ask me to list my apps and I did. Now what?

Huawi 2018 VPN auto kill

hello guys i need help how to prevent my openvpn to auto stop im my phone.. when i use openvpn and playing online games after a few mins openvpn stop any suggestions how to fix this issue?
huawei y6 2018
ATU-L22
version: 8.0.0.142(c636)
Same problem here
It's not just openvpn.
I tried some other vpn's and nothing lasts.
They keep on closing every time I open another app.
I think it is a problem of the device's latest update (8.0.0.142).
I tried to fix this problem with several options on the developers option, but nothing happens.
And it is "weird" because this update automatically activates the Developers Option.
I'm still looking forward for a solution tho.
Please disable battery optimization for openvpn.
When it's running in background, your phone kills the app automatically to optimize battery consumption.

It's not just VPN apps but other apps too, so you should update your thread title. Anyway, just go to Settings->Battery->Launch and uncheck your VPN app. Next, make sure Auto Start, Secondary Launch and Run in Background are all checked. Also, try using a low graphics setting in your game to reduce ram usage and to reduce the chance of background apps getting killed
Is this
Same as mine. Huawei y6 2018. VPN connected for a few min then it will stop. Any help?

found the solution, though i can't find the direct access to it.
1. go to settings
2. battery
3. click optimize... then you will be redirected to options. you will find the view intensive app.
4. got to intensive app menu then turn off the manage automatically of every app that you wish to stay alive in the background.
i got rid of it now my vpn and other apps stays alive on the background.

Give other protocols a try. OpenVPN e.g. takes some resources that our crappy Chinese phones simply don't have. Right now I'm using Wireguard. The provider's client doesn't work that well, but the official wireguard client works excellent.
Besides that I've installed Shizuku manager and Icebox. With Icebox you can disable any user- or system app without the need for root. I've disabled most of the Huawei ****ty apps to save resources. If you disable optimizing features as well your phone won't force stop apps anymore. Instead of keeping as much RAM free as possible it will be using all RAM availlable. Apps will be more responsive and will only be killed by Android in case of OOM. Your phone's battery charge will last a day easy.
