[Q&A] Getting MMS to work on Lollipop [solved] - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

A few days ago, I upgraded from KK to Lollipop (CM 12 nightly) and suddenly MMS sending stopped working, I could neither send or receive (on T-Mobile).
I checked and reentered my APNs a few times. The phone would sometimes switch from an LTE connection to no service when sending the MMS. I also saw that some people had been asking about this in a few forums, with no real answer, basically "check your APN".
Eventually I noticed that MMS were being sent properly when on a wifi connection.
Here's how I fixed my MMS: I used to have - as per operator instructions - one APN for "internet" and one APN for "mms". The internet APN had as APN type "default, supl" and the mms APN had "mms".
What was going on was that, while the phone was connecting properly to the internet APN, the connection to the mms APN was just not happening. No idea why.
Solution:
1) I changed the APN type of the internet APN from "default, supl" to "default, supl, mms"
2) copied down the values of the MMSC, MMS proxy and MMS port from the MMS APN
3) deleted the MMS APN
4) entered those three values into the "internet" APN, keeping the rest as it was
5) rebooted
and everything works, as the phone is connecting to the MMS server through the internet APN. Bear in mind again that this is not what the operator's "technical support" told me to do, they were set on having me use two different APNs (and that wouldn't work at all).
Hope it works for other people too

MMS Can't Download, need to break connection

I'm new to this, and well - when I'm connected to either to WiFi or GPRS, i get a window pop that asks me this:
" In order to send/download MMS, the current active connection must be closed (this may affect other application in use). Do you want to continue? "
Is there any workaround to this? (as in auto connect perhaps?) It's just that I get quite a few MMS and it's a bit annoying. I have always-on GPRS connection because of DirectPush, so I get this message every time I get a MMS.
you said you are always online. check the name of the connections. this name you have to write in the options of the mms connections. so the message will gone
The same problem here to...
for my internet connection i have a apn setup under my isp which i use for internet and directpush....and i have another connection setup under my work network which is a proxy apn and used for mms only....and i cant use the my isp apn as two are diffrent for mms and internet now when a mms came i need to do disconect the connection by clicking yes everytime...
does there have any work around that the disconect-downloading mms and again reconecting to my isp will occure automatically???

P3600 in USA, T-Mobile

Does anyone have any experiance in using P3600 in USA with T-Mobile? In particular, I am having hard time getting to Internet and receiving MMS messages.
Because of the specifics of the USA cell and PDA market, getting a PDA working with a service provider (if you don't buy it from the service provider itself) can be tough. I have set up my Trinity to connect to EDGE, it shows the "E" on the top of the bars, but it still has a hard time browsing the Internet. There is not much help offered on their website, so I was hoping may be someone has had an experience setting it for T-Mobile.
Any help would be appreciated.

you'll probably have to call T-Mobile and get their MMS and internet settings, or it might be somewhere on their website.
I have set it according to their instructions here: http://support.t-mobile.com/knowbase/root/public/tm21625.htm?
That shows my phone connected to EDGE by I am still not able to access the Internet.
I've just spent a week in the USA with my Orange M700 - everything worked fine, probably gonna have some horrible roaming bills though as it's still on the original orange account
I'm in the US on T-Mobile, no problem with Internet. The only thing I had to do was enter the server address -- internet2.voicestream.com, and all works.
MMS has been a bit more trying. I do get inbound notifications of MMS coming in, but haven't played around with it enough to get it working. Then again, I don't use MMS so it hasn't been a pressing issue. I'll play with it tomorrow and see what I get.
dada21,
Connecting to internet2.voicestream.com helped! Thank you.
On T-Mobile website they were suggesting connecting to wap.voicestream.com and using a proxy server. But once I took out the proxy server and used the server you suggested it worked fine.
With the MMS messages- yes, I get only the inbound notifications too. Don't get the actual message.
Glad internet2 worked for you.
Getting MMS working was a *****. Here's what I did:
I set up a new connection under "Work" to wap.voicestream.com
Under Messaging, MMS, settings:
Gateway: 216.155.165.50
Port: 9201
Server address: http://216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
Connect via: Work
Sending size limitation: 248K
WAP version: WAP 1.2
I received MMS perfectly but didn't test sending yet.
Let us know how it works for you.

Exchange ActiveSync & MMS
Hi Asik,
I have the same problem with MMS and Exchange Sync. When you have set MMS to automatically download, the X1 will try a few times to download the MMS without notifying me and after 8 days (in my network), I get the message that the MMS timed out and I'm no longer able to get it - VERY BAD
If you set the MMS to download manually, you will get notified that a new MMS is there! You can then click on "Download". The X1 then shows a message that it needs to disconnect Internet and connect to the MMS APN. You have to say "Yes" on the right Menu Now! Then, the MMS gets downloaded and afterwards, Internet gets reconnected for Exchange ActiveSync. Not very beautiful, but at least a workaround.
Does anybody knows of a better way?
Ok, so its not just me that have this problem....
I also use the above metod to get my MMS and it sucks that i cant get them auto to me...
Help us out here guys... this cant be the way to do it or ???

Exchange ActiveSync & MMS
Hi Asik,
another solution would be to use the same APN for Internet and MMS. Unfortunately, this does not work for me and probaly for most of us because:
My Provider has seperate APN's for MMS and Internet:
With the Internet APN, I cannot access the MMSC to download or send messages.
With the MMS APN, I can access both, Internet and MMSC, but it get's disconnected automatically after receiving an MMS or after about 2 Minutes. With this, ActiveSync would reconnect every 2 Minutes and this would be quite expensive, because a new 20kB Block would be charged and never used bevor the next disconnect.
The Telco's should provide an Internet APN that doesn't disconnect and also allows to connect the MMSC.
I think its the same for my provider...Telia Sweden

Wi-Fi router problem with APN

Hi,
I have following problem with wi-fi router: it automatically detects APN configuration from my operator (O2) and sets the wap APN. I need to change the APN from wap to internet but I didn't find any way how to manually change it. I have disabled wap APN on my phone as I have unlimited data plan but this requires connection only via internet APN not wap. Any idea how to manually change it? maybe some registry tweak?

Wanted: Wifi only

Hi for my xperia x10 I had wifi only for a while and all of a sudden it started to connect to the internet using the phone company's gsm/edge/etc.
How do I turn it back to WIFI ONLY. I don't want to pay for internet because I don't have a web plan.
My apn is set up correctly; so I don't know what's going on. It just switched all of a sudden:
Name: T-mobile
Apn: Wap.voicestream.com
mmsc: http://216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
Uncheck the box next to mobile network in settings
Now I can't receive/send picture msgs. =(
