Data mounting error fix - Moto G General

It happened with me and many people that they have no OS installed and custom recovery gives an error CANNOT MOUNT DATA
Now you can try to repair data partition using twrp or Mount data or wipe or whatever IT WILL NOT WORK
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO
Flash Philz touch from here
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B7lxW9DP17gNalk2Y3EtcU9JZTA/edit?usp=docslist_api
Go to wipe --> Custom Wipe
Then first wipe data/media and then data
VOILÀ
Your data partition is mounted now just flash whatever you want

Format data under wipe tab in TWRP followed by a reboot also works.

[Q] Stupid question

Hi,
I have an Iconia Tab A500 with CWM installed and sometime i switch on different ROM to test them.
Usually befoere making a full NANDROID restore i do only a "Wipe data" / "Wipe cache" / "Wipe dalvik" but sometime you can see on some post that you need in addition to format "/system /flexrom /data /cache, etc.."
So my stupid question, is it necessary to format each time i do a full restore or only to wipe.
In fact, what is the difference between "Wipe" and "Format" ?
Thx a lot for answer.
A developer could certainly give you a more accurate answer to your question than me but, as far as I know, wiping means erasing the data that you have added by yourself to the ROM (for example, your pseudos and passwords, apps, and so...), while formatting means erasing all the data that the developers have written originally.
Personally, when I restore a ROM, I never do a wiping nor a formatting, since the backup contains all the data of the ROM, afaik.

If you install RA Recovery, you only need to select in wipes "user data/factory reset", then do a dalvik wipe. This formats your partitions so no need to do 6 different things. System gets formatted when the rom installs.
so, wiping or formatting as no effect when you restore a backup because all is erased.. strange.. so why on most tutorial we ask to do a wipe ?
Strange...
Can you give me an example of tutorial where it is said that you have to do a wipe before a restore with CMW ?

To me this is a better safe than sorry situation. It's probably unnecessary and redundant but i'd rather wipe and format everything before i flash just to be sure im getting a clean base, rather than flash, have bugs, and have to go back into recovery and wipe anyway and reflash

you know I always understood that restoring did not require a wipe, but since I've started this tablet, I've noticed I get failed restore more often. I've started wiping before restore but sometimes it still fails.

[Q] Reincarnation not booting

I am using GT S5360. I have installed reincarnation pre final and it didn't passed the screen where samsung galaxy Y GTs5360 comes.
I followed the whole procedure but not working. Any help ???
Did you flash kernel?
Mount system?
Remember that naturalizer or touchwiz rom isn't for galaxy y
after you flash percys cm#2 kernel you must reboot to recovery and wipe system data and cache before you flash the rom
the steps are as follows
go into cwm
mount system
flash percys #2 kernel
reboot to recovery
format system data cache
mount system data cache
flash rom zip
format data
restart
if the rom still doesnt boot after that take out your sim card
if the rom now boots you need to change your baseband by flashing a different stock rom firmware via odin
I flashed the jellybean version... I have restored the backup now and i followed all the steps... I flashed the zip file of kernel, rebooted recovery, formatted system, data, cache and then installed the rom... But it stucks on bootscreen... Dosen't even show the bootanimation...

3.Again boot into cwm and format system, data and cache
4.Go back and wipe data and cache
5.Again go to mounts and storage and mount all the partitions

TWRP won't remove encryption

Hello everyone,
I am running 3.0.2-2 on the SM-G935FD and for whatever reason TWRP won't wipe the encryption, thus I cant read the internal SD card. I am getting the " /data mount" error.
I have done the advanced wipe and cleared everything except the external SD, am I using the wrong TWRP? any ideas?
You must wipe data! Wipe it all internal storage!
Sent from my Blackberry Bold
I had same issue on G935F. Try advanced and format data in twrp. The option where you have to type yes. If not then flash stock recovery, factory reset and boot into download and flash twrp before booting into system to flash dm-verity zip.

...have you tried cursing/threatening/random acts of violence on inanimate objects? no? well BEFORE you do, advance wipe, wipe system/data/etc, reboot, or there are ways to reformat as ExFat with a PC too.

From AOSP to miui

Hi,
Running latest evolution x rom and want to go back to miui. Simply wiped everything in twrp and installed xiaomi.eu rom - installation was successfully but when It's finish booting and the set-up screen should be there my screen just goes black and set-up screen is coming again and again and again and again. Even tried different miui ROMs. Was running completely fine a week before.
Any suggestions?

Sorry but I'm out of ideas then. I usually go back and forth xiaomi.eu and aosp but I haven't encountered this. I usually wipe cache, dalvik, data, and system. I also have to reboot to recovery after wipe before flashing xiaomi.eu to be able to mount the system partition.

Oh sorry I misunderstood, no I just wiped /data.
As soon as I copied the rom on my phone again I'll try that if I'm facing the same issue :good:
I followed this steps to come back to MIUI from LOS:
1. Wiped everything (cache, internal, vendor, system, data)
2.After wiping I did "format data" and said "Yes"
3.Rebooted to recovery TWRP again
4.Mounted my phone on PC and copied rom.zip
5.Flashed the zip and reboot to system
Try this and it should work, for me did! Good luck!

I don't know precisely why, but yeah, it's not the same thing. In fact, I had problems too, but formatting data after total wipe resolved them
formatting data "Yes" is another thing that is important when you flash custom ROM or go back to stock ROM.
After flash the miui, go back wipe -> Factory Data -> Type (yes) -> restart
it will be works
Same here
I flashed fastboot rom to get device work again
