Note 4 verizon warranty service..and hardware changes? - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 General

After a few months, I noticed a tiny hairline crack on my glass 1/8" in on the top right corner. I'd never dropped my phone, and hadn't even really used it much at all, so sent it in for warranty service. It was so small it wasn't even on the display, and didn't affect the functionality all, but it bugged the heck out of me that over time I might see that affect the rest of the display from friction or stress.
Longg story short, they voided my warranty and claimed it was customer abuse, but after a bbb complaint, changed third mind after look at it in hand again, and reinstated my warranty, and repaired it at no charge.
Here is the interesting part though. ..instead of just replacing the glass or lcd/glass assembly, they pretty much gutted all the hardware, and completely replaced it. The repair ticket said it was overheating beyond spec on charge. (My wife also has a launch day note 4. Which operated exactly the same as mine. )
I get it back do a complete backup restore, and start tinkering with it to see if there are any changes. This is what I've found so far:
My quadrant benchmark scores are consistently 4,000 more than the scores before the repair!
My fingerprint scanner never seemed to work consistantly...now it works properly 90% of the time!
Our heart rate monitor worked without our silicone cases on, but could never get them to work with them on. ..now, mine works 100% of the time with my case on!
Needless to say, I'm tickled pink that I'm seeing such improvements, but I'm concerned about my wife's note 4 now x if the original releases did have some kind of running manufacture changes.
Just wanted to share these findings with you guys. I have no actual proof that they have changed the hardware at all, but it sure seems like they have. (Chip reports show the exact same chips on bottle our devices.) It could be they just improved some things like the sensors after launch.

Manufacturing Imperfections (Sketchy Build Quality)

Alright, so right off the bat I just want to say that this isn't a doom and gloom thread (I hope), but it's an issue I wanted to ask you guys about since I'm on my 2nd phone now and I've had cosmetic issues with both. I want to love my phone, I just want one that won't give me problems first! I will post pictures soon, to show you guys what I'm about to describe below.
Both phones have had minor (but very annoying) imperfections involving the casing. My first phone was the most problematic. First off, the battery cover did not sit flush. I did not realize how much of a difference this made in terms of build quality until I got my second phone. My 1rst phone would creak and click when pressure was applied to the back and it just did not seem like a very sturdy device. This was not the case with the second phone (which had a back cover that fit perfectly) as there was no creaking or clicking, it felt rock solid just like its supposed to. Also, there was a small chip and discolouration of the teflon coating on the bottom left front face of the first phone. Again, nothing major but still not something that I was not pleased about given the price of the phone.
Unrelated but my first phone also had the purple tint issue which is the main reason I returned it and bought a new one (I couldn't outright swap because I don't live in the US). My second phone came in and luckily it did not have the tint issue. All I can say is WOW, what a difference it makes having a proper screen!! The black colours actually look crisp and dark, and there is absolutely no tint at low brightness.
So the screen was good. I checked the bottom left hand to see for any issues with the teflon, and there were none. I checked the backplate and like I mentioned earlier, it was perfectly flush. So far so good BUT.. again there were some cosmetic issues! Along the left side of the phone there was a tiny chip and some of the grey finish was off. Also, on the back, the bottom teflon piece did not sit flush with the rest of the device.
Once again, these are minor yet annoying things (but who knows, maybe I just have OCD!). The big issue from the first phone was the screen and the creaking, both of which are resolved with the second device, but I'm i'm contemplating whether I should return this one as well to go for one that is "perfectly built".. I mean, if this phone was store bought I would have no hesitation. I would just go there and make them open the boxes until I found a device that had no imperfections.. But it's just a real hassle having to continually ship my old device back, purchase a new one (while waiting two weeks to get credited back my $600 for the first device), and waiting for it to arrive. I also don't want to risk getting another phone with the purple tint issue..
Sorry for the long winded post, but basically what I wanted to ask was do you guys have any manufacturing imperfections with your phones??. I'm not talking about faulty screens or weak antennas, but actually design or cosmetic flaws. Do you guys have any and have you learned to just accept them or have you returned your devices and successfully gotten the "perfect" device.

I got mine for free at this year's Barcelona MWC and luckyly i've had no issues whatsoever regarding hardware or aesthetics. An I say luckyly because obviously if I haven't bought it and I don't live in the US I would most definitely not get it replaced.

So which are you really looking for? Manufacturing defects or design flaws?
Are you looking for functional defects or cosmetic only defects?
Are you look for process-gone-completely-wrong defects or are you looking for minor imperfections resultant of process variation?
It is certainly possible to have a bad screen or a bad antenna as a manufacturing defect. There is also minor variation in any manufacturing process - this is normal. The trick is to keep the variation controlled well enough that the process consistently produces acceptable quality product. Note: No manufacturing process produces perfect parts, and minor imperfections are not necessarily defects. Normally, a design flaw impacts manufacturing quality only if the design requirements are too stringent for manufacturing capability.
I know you started out saying you did not want yet another thread bagging on the N1, but without clearer objectives, you've left it wide open for just that.

There is one imperfection that I noticed like 3 weeks of constant use.. The bottom piece, the one with "htc" on it, is a little bit more raised on one side (in comparison to the silver band on the back) than the other side. I'm talking 0.5mm difference that you can't see, only feel when comparing.
I'm writing that off as absolutely negligible and too tiny to even think about.

Same here. I thought about popping it off (it's just retained by a couple of clips) and attempting to re-seat it, but I see no problem with it. It's not like the 2nd batch of the iPhone 3G, where there was 1mm gaps between the plastic back and chrome bezel. I'm shocked no news blog picked up on that, it was fairly widespread.

Well it's the almighty apple, they don't wanna disappoint their readers that the calculator that they paid $500 for is also cheaply built.
I have a question that (um..) kinda relates to this. I'm having a hard timing saying this so bare with me. You know when technology is first released that is has alot of problems and bugs but overtime it seems that the problems die down because the companies that produce the phones (xboxs, iphones, ps3, etcs) get smarter and make things differently or better...
Well my contract with t-mobile is up in 46 days and I was planning on getting a nexus one. I don't plan on getting it engraved. My question is that do you think my phone will be made when I order it or do you believe its been sitting in a warehouse since March 26th (guess) just waiting for somebody to place a call? I've seen those cool "making of nexus one" videos on youtube and figured i'd ask you guys. Thanks to whoever answers.
yup, i have similar issues. i initially thought they actually shipped a refurb unit to me. turns out i'm not the only one. now i'm not that worried

attn1, I could have been more clear in my last statement, 'design flaw' was a vague term. I meant cosmetic only defects and minor imperfections as a result of process variation. I know that with any product that is mass produced on an assembly line you will get variation from device to device. This thread wasn't meant to bash this variation but just to compare what other people have experienced with their phones.
Like I said, my first phone was awful, it had both functional and aesthetic problems. My second phone seems to be fully functional but still has a few (albeit minor) aesthetic imperfections. I must say though, I got my Brando Gel case in today and it looks great on the phone! It covers up the unevenness on the bottom teflon piece as well as the blemish on the left side of the phone very nicely.
My nexus came with a scratch or bubble on the inside of the screens glass. They told me i'd get a refurb in exchange(even though it's about a week old), I told them i'd think about it. Think i'll be calling back and demanding a brand new device.

That kinda scares me because I'm picking up a nexus one in 46 days (contract with t-mobile will be up then) and I dont want something like that to happen to me. I'll keep my fingers crossed. I would demand a new one too
Have had no issues with mine until yesterday when the trackball stopped scrolling left. Refurb sans engraving rolling in tomorrow. All told still much better quality then my G1 or Blackberry.

No tint nothing amiss as far as build quality that I can notice. This is the best built (visually and as far as any creakiness or such) phone I have ever owned and the first one I have had without any perceptible flaws out of the gate.
OK! So to all of you who has a Nexus One with cosmetic imperfections on the BOTTOM plastic piece on the BACK, with the labeled HTC, i may have a cure for you.
So, with me I HAD a slight imperfection on the right side, about a 1mm gap. It was annoying and I have some slight OCD (used to be worse). One day last week or so, that part of my phone became VERY hot, probably 101-105℉. While that plastic was hot, it was a little bit bendable. I used a rather large amount of force, and over about three times of doing this, the plastic is flush with the metal, and the rest of the phone.
So try that if you're super partial to your device like me. Or if you dont wanna deal with HTC, like me.

"refurbished" sounds bad but really its a more taken care of device isn't it? It's been tested to a further degree so its more likely to come without flaws perhaps or am I reaching?

Considering a Nexus 7... screen separation?

So what's the consensus? I was really considering picking up a Nexus 7 until I read about the screen separation issues. I used to have an ASUS Transformer and really liked ASUS's build quality. Is the Nexus 7 really that bad? I don't like the idea of buying a $250 tablet and then having to open it up and modify it just to make it work properly. (Especially since the iPad Mini is rumored to be released next month.)

I personally loved my Nexus 7, and I'm one of the lucky ones who had their screen crack. I should be getting it back today, as it was supposedly fixed under warranty without a charge (guess I plead a good case when I called 4x reminding them I won't be paying for it). Keep in mind just how many of these units were sold. There's a handful of people here on the forums and AndroidCentral, etc., posting about this issue, yes... but go onto an Apple forum and you'll see the same thing.
Has the iPad mini even been announced yet? I keep hearing rumors but nothing solid. If you're somebody who doesn't mind iOS, it's not a bad option to wait, but you'll almost undoubtedly pay more for a similarly spec'd tablet. I personally wouldn't consider it, but that's just my 2c. If you're somebody who is pretty agnostic about it, waiting to see what more options come about is never a bad thing. Just don't catch the waiting disease... if you wait too long, you'll find yourself in a constant waiting hole with no devices you could otherwise be enjoying. :good:
I will say this, though. If you buy a Nexus 7, buy it from a local retailer. It's the same price as the N7 from Google Play, and plus you cut out the shipping time. Sorry Google, but being able to return a faulty N7 (in the event you get one) at a B&M store two miles away is still quicker than your (albeit, still fast) shipping turn around time.
The issue is not as great as the forums would make you believe. After all every single product ever made has a small number of defects.
Don't worry about it would be my suggestion.

I've had my Nexus 7 since it came out. Not a single defect or issue, its been great so far and I love it.

As with pretty much any product out there, I always take the online reviews with a grain of salt. A larger percentage of the people who had problems are likely to post compared to those that didn't have problems. Any time I buy something that causes me grief, I am generally ticked enough to want to post about it somewhere, but it rarely occurs to me to post something about products that work as promised and don't have issues.
This does not apply to my N7 because I love it so much I can not stop telling people. Mine has a tiny bit of screen lift that I would not have noticed if I had not read about it. Certainly not enough to want to try to return it. I may try one of the posted fixes but even that seems unlikely. Can't find the downtime...
The issues are there and they are real!
First Nexus = Creaking and Screen separation
Second Nexus = Screen separation
Third Nexus = Screen separation
Fourth Nexus = Severe creaking
Its sooooo sad as I love everything else about this freaking tablet! But the quality issues are out there just so you know it.
Huge issues
I think the screen lift screen crack and screen becoming un responsive is a HUGE Issue.. Its not just this forum where you see compalints.. You see it from tech reviews and so on.. I know that this is Hyped up causing to to be a bigger issue then it is . But the issue is not just the defects . Its how google and Asus has chosen to deal with this.. They have had my money cost of 3 tablets locked away due to exchange waiting . I Call and email with no response other then we will foreword it to a specialist .
I say get One From a Bick and Mortar store with a good reputation for taking care of there customers .. Buy a Extended warranty to where the STORE Has to deal with your device If and when it breaks.. I have never in my life seen such a Lack of Customer Service or Lack of Response for such issues .. Im left to where if i do not get a shipping confirmation and PAYMENT BACK TO MY BANK i will Have to file a complaint because im near the required time to do so with my card ... This is Pathetic..

I have one that has slight screen lift and creaking, but It's honestly not bad enough for me to worry about. I can't detect it unless I carefully look at it from the side, or press on the screen hard enough to make it flex. The case I have it in completely hides the problem.
Now, should it happen? No. But I bought a Nexus 7 because it was a fairly high-spec tablet that I didn't have to pay $500 for. I'm willing to accept a few compromises, especially when the cure (on-phone time, a bad refurb replacement) could be worse than the disease.
To minimize hassle, do what others have suggested and buy locally from a retailer with a good return policy.

The prevalence of screen lift is not being exaggerated. It's a widespread flaw, the cause of which is present in every unit. That's not to say that every display is separated, but the way the devices have been assembled through August (C8O serials) has left every Nexus 7 with an inadequate bond under the left side of the display.

Although the adhesive is weak in that area, some other stress should be required to actually force the underside of the display away from the frame. That force is either frame warp or pressure from internal components. ASUS has begun omitting screws from the left side of the device in an attempt to remove some of the stress behind the separation. This points to frame warp as the primary contributor, but it's a partial fix at best.

The fact that ASUS is now implementing reductive measures against screen lift as part of its assembly process should lay to rest any doubts about the scope of this flaw.
Having said that, I would not advise against buying a Nexus 7. It's still the best 7" tablet available, not to mention the best value for a tablet of any kind.
I went through three units with lift before deciding to wait it out, but this was not necessarily the correct decision. My second unit had merely the slightest lift and was well worth keeping, but users on this forum misled me to believe that screen lift was a rare thing so I exchanged it. My third one had more lift and exhibited distortion when pressed along the left side. That one was not worth keeping, so I decided to return it and wait for this issue to be fixed. Not sure if that's going to happen.
Like JaSauders said, the probability of lifted glass cracking during normal use seems very low, and if flexing the display caused a row of dead pixels, or any other sort of display failure, that would be covered under warranty.
I will say this, i never noticed the screen separation until I came to these forums and read about it, HOWEVER, now that I know about it, it drives me crazy.
On the flip side, if you plan to use a case that covers the bezel, you experience or see it anyway, so its not a big deal.
I haven't experienced any other issues aside from the screen seperation, and even then its not noticeable until you start messing with it.

Both units I've received so far have had the problem to some extent. The first one had it really bad and I exchanged it when I heard that it may be causing screens to crack. The 2nd one also had the problem, but the screen lift was so small that I wasn't worried about it. I still ended up exchanging the 2nd unit because of other issues (mostly the oleophobic coating was rubbing off) and should be receiving my 3rd one today.
If it means anything though, even with the screen lift problem, I still consider this the best tablet for the price and I have no interest in the new Kindle Fire or iPad Mini.

Putting case over the edge of the tablet is NOT a fix for the screen separation issues . Eventually the glass will move enough from this causing it to become weak. or a piece of dirt will get under the screen and it WILL CRACK Or crumble. Anytime hard glass is put in a situation where it can move independently being twist or bent It will weaken and crack .
I know this from Structural Engineering classes.. I have been a project manager for high rise construction for much longer then some of those on here are old. . Glass that is scratch / impact resistant MUST BE SECURED PERFECTLY . Must be allowed to expand and contract from edge to edge .. But must be fixed firmly and equally on all sides with no extra pressure or lack of in any area.. THE LAST Sentence here is the ISSUE WITH THE NEXUS TABLET
Now with the above said i to agree its the best Device right now with its size and cpu.. If there were a worthy 7 inch Device i would NOT OWN A NEXUS 7 .. check out the specs on the new corning-FIT Glass... There should be a metal frame for this glass to sit in..and it should over lap the edge of the screen NO GLASS From edge to edge ..
Of course this is all my opinion. Make your own judgement.. But do not Pretend there is not a issue just because you Love your device and you accept less then Perfect...

My screen never separates to the point where anything could get under it... it just lifts up enough where I can press it back down..I'm not sure that would ever be bad enough to crack the screen. I'm have a C8O build so it may not be as bad as previous models? Im not sure.

Update: Got the 3rd unit
It's one of the new C8O models and it's the best one I've gotten so far.
No screen lift, no flickering, none of the issues I had with the previous ones.
It's pretty much flawless as far as my eyes can tell.

Congrats My C8O had minor lift, but last night I decided to glue it down and now its fine. Two drops of super glue and 5min later I havent had a problem all night/this morning. Played a bunch of 3D games to really heat it up and its golden.
I have the screen lift issue, but I have decided not to replace it. I would recommend that customers purchase the extended warranty at the store if in fact covers broken displays.
That said, I just rub down the face with a microfiber cloth before use and the lift is eliminated for a duration. Helps with the finger prints too.
That said, once a competing tab is released with the same specs I'd recommend that one instead. This QA issue will make me avoid Asus in the future. Google needs to vet OEMs better next time.
I've had four Nexus 7 tablets that have all had screen lift on the left side. Just got my latest one yesterday and it still has the issue. I've purchased lots of tablets and gadgets and this having to exchange something this many times and still getting a defects two months later is hardly normal or expected.
Fortunately the raised glass doesn't impair the functionality of the table (normally) and the tablet is pretty nice with stock Android Jelly Bean, Tegra 3, high DPI screen, and only $200/250. So all it's good points do outweigh ASUS incompetence to manufacture the tablet properly.

after disappointing from Panasonic non branded phone my self thought to buy something branded and well customer service handset
but I had taken one chance once again with this peace of crap OPO and now feel really bad want to remove one plus logo from my signature
main reason to buy this that it has great support of Xda developers and its really feels me really proud to be part of this community where I got lots of software improvement over my OPO which makes this phone extremely good in case of software improvement
but one time by my self done a big mistake that I corrupted my efs partition that time I went to service Center 300 km away from my home which cost me 1500 as travelling and residential charges
but this time they serviced well without any cost and served in 1 day
that time I feel blessed thought after this there will no more frustration
but yesterday i was working all day and my OPO was in pocket
when I came to home surfed my OPO for 2 hr and some calling after that when I put my OPO beside in bed and I am busy in my work as per my habit I took my OPO and tried to unlock but screen not worked(thought it was started ghost touches as many users reported)
I rebooted it back and dine the same thing but no luck
then I look closer to it's screen there is small crack on screens uppermost part
but how this happened previously my self used galaxy s advance ,Nokia c6 which has gorilla glass and never happened like this
not even this my micromax android one was thrown by my baby many times but it has scratches on back but not a single problem with screen
my **** Panasonic eluga u has many software problems but not a single screen problem as I dropped many times

some one will think I don't handled this phone properly
but real fact is that I am known of all issues regarding this phone and handling it very carefully but dropped previously from very low height ( where my third class micromax and panasonic phone dropped lots of time from high hight and working wrll till now) 1or 2 times but it survived with lots of scratches on plastic frame of gorilla glass.
conclusion:
there slogan is real NEVER SETTLE after purchasing this phone u will never settle forever and u will have to add more mony time to time means 1plus 1 and u gain 0

So you unlocked your own bootloader and flashed stuff without taking backups before beginning. OnePlus kindly repaired this for you from the sound of it, which was nice considering it was your fault for not taking backups.
Then you dropped your phone and cracked the screen, rightly they won't repair it for you without you paying. Sounds sensible to me.
Any phone dropped can and will break, sometimes people are lucky with how they fall sometimes not. All phones break if dropped from a small height if they land just wrong. Doesn't matter what the glass is it breaks.
As for all the other "issues" that you have managed to find, if you search for any phone you will find a similar list of issues around and about for them, sometimes things go wrong.
If your phone had all of those issues that you have listed then they would have repaired it for you.
Can't say that I (and the majority of others) have ever had any of those issues.

all I want to say that this phone has very bad quality of hardware that I don't understand how its glass got broken I even not fall it down( previously when I dropped that happened 1 month before this)
I just kept all day in my pocket
at night near about 8pm I used it that time it seems okno problem at all but suddenly when I took it in hand and it seems not working and screen got broken( its not thrown by my baby )

its not thrown by my baby and I doesn't dropped by myself any more( 2 time I dropped it down was 1 month ago and there was no single problem)
every one feels irritation when their handsets got in problems when they does nothing wrong with it( previous efs problem was mine and I apolize for it but this was not mine)
I don't see how you cracked your screen without drop or when it was in your pocket you bump up against something hard or bending a certain way etc......
But either way sorry for your bad luck

wow, you need to apply a lot of force to bend it, I think the guarantee can not do anything for you, but you can try.

My G4 Plus is also bent! I only had it in my front pants pocket, not sat on it or done anything out of the ordinary.. I've been in touch with Motorola support but they say that their warranty doesn't cover physical damage, I argued that this is a design flaw but they aren't budging, they keep saying it's a "chargeable repair". I've been a loyal Moto G user since the 2nd Gen, I've never damaged a phone before (not even cracked a screen!) and certainly never bent one! So for them to imply I've not taken proper care of it is a slap in the face. In fact, here's the last email I received from them:-
"According to our warranty terms and conditions, physical damages are out of warranty regardless of the circumstances.
As this phone is bigger than the ones you had before, it is indeed more likely to get damaged if you leave it your pocket and sit on it for example. It is up to our repair centre to look at your phone and see if there is a manufacturer's fault or if it is proper physical damage that happened because you did not take proper care of the device.
Unfortunately, we cannot tell you in advance what this diagnosis will be since only our certified repair centre will see your phone. But as physical damage is never repaired in warranty, it is very likely that you will get a quote.
I understand your dicontent, but our warranty terms and conditions cannot be bypassed, I am truly sorry.

I'm extremely disappointed and angry that I've wasted hundreds of pounds on the top-spec G4 Plus, only for it to basically be made of chocolate! If this is what they call product design and customer service then I will never buy Motorola/Lenovo anything ever again.
My phone also bent (g4+). Having problems with customer service. Any one ever had this problem resolved?

wearing mine in my front pocket as well. It seems that a lot of force is required to bend this. The guy from the video that hyof posted actually bends it back to straight once he applied an excessive force to it to get it to bend slightly.
You could actually advertise your Moto G4 Plus as curved screen smartphone .

Well I gave up on the G4... a month or so ago it stopped charging properly unless the phone/USB cable was balanced just so, and then it would take hours for full charge. I'm currently in NZ until next year and they said I had to send the phone back to UK for repair for software reasons, which would have cost a bit and then probably cost me for a "repair". I said I won't buy Lenovo or Motorola again (shame, as the P2 with 5100mAh battery sounds pretty good) so have bought a replacement OnePlus3.. which it turns out is a much better phone than the G4. Well, for now at least! :fingers-crossed:

Bending isn't something that happens easily. I have 2 G4s and they bend no easier than the G2 or G3 I owned. Any phone will bend if you apply enough pressure to it.

Maybe I tend to be a bit paranoid about my devices. I know that any phone bends or breaks if enough force is applied, but some are more fragile than others. I had the first G, the X and the second E, and they all were very sturdy devices. I was very surprised reading this tread.
I like to think I also take care of my phones, but I feel that this one was a bit too delicate. I've owned many phones over many years without damaging them, and specifically a Moto G2 and a G3 for a longer period than 5 months without damaging either, but the G4 was bent within a couple of months of ownership (to be honest, I don't think I could bend a G3 without snapping it! The G4 is only about 1cm taller but quite a bit thinner) Now the bend itself didn't seem to damage the phone, it still worked fine but when it stopped charging a month or so ago that was the last straw for me.

I've attached a photo of the bend (I think, never done this). It's difficult to make out but it's around the area of the volume rocker. It doesn't seem much of a bend but you can definitely feel it in your hand, especially with the back not fitting flush and creaking - I noticed it myself within a few seconds of picking it up the next morning.
Now I was very happy with the phone, I was recommending Moto Gs to all my friends before this and before the charging problem I could have easily lived with the slight bend. So if you are certain you won't put too much (but how much?!?) pressure on it then get yourself one, I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Unless it mysteriously stops charging properly that is
definitely visible, sorry to hear about your experience. I will definitely pay more attention with my phone now after seeing this. Btw. the best way to show the bend is to look along the edge of the phone back to front while holding it horizontally.

I feel like a lot of the issues that have been happening to people like overheating and so, seem to be determined by pure luck.
I've been putting my screen face down when I sleep and because of the tempered glass screen protector and no case, it's been sliding around while I sleep, I find myself waking up on my side with my phone directly under my shoulder and it doesn't seem to have bent in any way.
Hopefully you get this sorted out.

Don't feed the trolls. It happened and anybody should feel sorry for the person this happened to - it could be me and you next. We all know how to be careful with our devices. We also understand that this is not a widely reported bend-gate issue. We therefore expect the manufacturer's response to warranty claims to be most likely negative.
It could be an isolated device build problem that made this particular phone or phones more susceptible.
Personally, i would try to live with the bend if hardware is not affected, or try to bend it back, or try to wear it facing the other way for a little bit too see if it bends back.

Wow! I've carried my phone in my front pants pocket numerous times and have never seen any bend in it. It is as straight as it can possibly be. However, I do have a case on it so maybe that is the difference?? Don't know, just wondering.

I've read about the faulty battery issue, and sudden reboots/bootloop issue.
Is there a way to minimize the risk, if I can check the device physically?
Checking the manufacturing date? Checking how many hours are left under "battery" in settings?

Don't buy this phone. There are so many issues with this thing. My network signals all of a sign went kaput (the network chip got fried go figure!). No I'm stuck with a giant iPod. Save your money and buy something else (serious advice).
I agree, don't buy this phone used. You have no way to test the battery and other issues might appear.
My phone is a year old and I have already gotten a couple of sudden shutdowns. In addition people often complain that they can't hear me and my voice is intermittently muffled.
i wouldn't recommend getting this phone used, especially this late in the game... you can't just ignore all the issues being posted
I stumbled across this because I am buying a used 64gb 6p on eBay right now (7- 22- 2018). My research shows that if one comes across a survivor of the bootloop death (which can be overcome by disabling the 4 large cores, why bother) AND one is willing to eventually buy a $15 battery kit and can use a heat gun effectively, the Nexus 6p is THE best phone right now for no more than $150. The 128gb can be had for $180. If one buys one manufactured later than 2/2016, the battery lasts longer and supposedly some other minor bugs were fixed.
For $150 even if you only get one year from it I believe it's worth it. Phones now are so expensive unless your signing your life away on a plan.
Battery problems, heat and lag issues. Can't wait to upgrade to Pixel 3 or anything else. I wouldn't recommend spending money on this peace of ... I loved the phone when it worked as supposed to, but now it just don't. Oh, and microphone problems when using speakerphone are also common.
I bought mine on ebay 64 gb for 150, it had a bad battery so i got them to refund $50. i paid like $15 to fix it been working absaloutey fine for 5 months so far. No lag at all for me or random reboots, all my cores work,signal works fine, and so do calls . I dont really know how it is on stock i have been on abc rom and franco kernel the whole time and loving the phone
This might be irrelevant to OP but here's my 2 cents
I bought one (exterior is almost mint) a few weeks ago and I couldn't be happier. I got it for $100 (from a guy that badly needed some money to go on holiday ) and honestly, I would say it's comparable to new mid range $300+ phones, even surpassing them in some regards - camera, software support, build quality, design, "feel". I'm not even sure why I bought it, since my trusty Z2 is still holding on, I guess I couldn't resist that price.
I knew what I was getting into, I read about all the problems beforehand, but I figured if it didn't get the bootloop till now, it probably won't. Also, I ordered a new battery off Aliexpress the day I got the phone. Screen On time used to be 2-3 hrs with random shutdown at 15-5%, now after replacement I'm getting ~5 hrs. Great success.
So for the 3 people out there looking to buy this phone, you can expect:
-bad battery life and random shutdown (just get a new one, they're dirt cheap)
-minor burn-in of the navbar (I notice it on white backgrounds only)
-getting warm after using it a while BUT it's a lot better after replacing the battery
-yellowish tint of the screen (I notice it since I'm coming from a cold LCD)
+camera performance comparable to flagships, especially with the Pixel camera app
+sexy design
+great build quality
+smooth overall
+very potent double speakers
+VERY fast charging with the original charger

The same day I resolved to buy from an individual who can answer questions. If the seller couldn't tell me the manufacture date they were dropped from the watchlist. My research seemed to indicate that units made after 2/2016 were the ones to get.
I bought a 64gb made in 10/2016 from a guy on eBay for $100. It's in better than near mint condition. Google announced the end of the Nexus brand the same month so this has to be one of the last made. Everything is perfect (including Oreo 8.1) except that AccuBattery reports 60% battery health. I concur with all that skullzhunter said.
I already planned to change the battery, but 60% health will buy me some time before I have to track down a heatgun. The battery kits are cheap and contain all the special tools for the job.
I'd like to hear from skullzhunter what the date of manufacture is on his phone (for others, boot into recovery and select "barcodes"). Also, were you able to remove the top and bottom covers intact? I imagine the trick is to apply enough heat. The question is, how much heat is TOO much? Any tips on re-installing those little covers with future access in mind?

Interesting trick with the Barcodes, seems my phone was manufactured in November 2015.
The operation was more difficult than I expected, but I managed to remove the covers with minor marks. You have to be VERY patient and careful, and you don't necessarily need a heat gun, a hair dryer will do. I don't think you can apply too much heat really, the frame will quickly get much hotter than the glass/plastic pieces but it cools down just as quick. Just heat it up until you can't touch the aluminium, there's nothing you can damage.
A trick that I unfortunately discovered after putting everything back together would be to use a sticker/vinyl skin to lift the covers from the corners (after heating), instead of digging in the gaps - as there are no gaps really.
So other than a hair dryer, you will need a 1.5 philips screwdriver, some thin plastic pieces to keep the screen assembly from snapping back into the case when you pry it open, and most importantly the thinnest strongest piece of metal you can find.
I used some tiny 3M double sided sticky strips to stick the pieces back and kept some of the old glue as well, I removed the gunky parts only. I think there are different glues used for top and bottom, the one on top being easier to reuse, but the bottom piece kinda sinks in the hole, so you need to leave just a little bit and press really hard so it snaps into place. I think it will be 10x easier to remove them now if I ever need to.
