[Q] Green line appearing in some photos? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've had my S5 with Verizon for a bit over 5 months, and really enjoy it, overall! The past couple months, since the last update, I had been noticing green lines appearing in some of my pictures. I can't quite sort out what makes the line appear, but it occurs roughly 50% of the time, regardless of light conditions, HDR settings, and zoom. I shoot mostly in 16MP, and never use the flash.
Verizon replaced my phone under warranty, but not even an hour out of the box, and the new one is doing the exact same thing.
Any ideas? I attached a photo with the green line appearing.
Thanks for the help!

That is very interesting. Do you use the stock camera software or a third party app?

The phone is "fresh out of the box" from Verizon. Only using the OEM camera app. The phone that was replaced under warranty was doing the exact same thing. The only common denominator that I've found is that if I zoom in, even just a small bit, I'm almost guaranteed to have a green line. If I don't touch the zoom, it's a 50-50 chance I'll get one. Different MP sizes, HDR, flash, all seem to have no effect on whether or not the line appears. Truly got me stumped.
The only observation I've made that really points to "software" issue would be that if I take pictures with the instagram app, I never get a green line, zoom'd or not. But at the end of the day, who wants to use that app for taking pictures?

Camera - Blurry images

Hi, I own a Vibrant for some months now and I'm using its 5MP camera quite a lot. In fact I find it quite decent for a phone cam in well-lit environments...
Lately I've opened the phone to apply the Hardware GPS fix. It worked (now it locks almost instantly), however the whole trial bequeathed me with a less than working camera (I swear I touch nothing close to there). Now all my images are blurry, case in point: http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/7028/picua.jpg (the original is in full 5MP glory supposededly "adjusted" for the given lighting and taken with a very steady hand).
Do you know what may caused this? Also did anyone else face the same problem (after operning the phone or not)? If so is it a problem that it can be solved?
I grew quite accustomed to my vibrant's camera, and I'll hate if I'm to lose its function now.
Thanks for your attention...
Erm, go to settings> applications> camera > erase everything cache, data etc.
That should make settings default.
Then try it, if it still does it.. erm find a camera app from market, and use that, then you know if its camera, or software.
thats not blurry, more like foggy. I had this same problem when i installed my ffc. I had put the phone back together before I let it fully dry. It might just be the inside of the glass that needs to be wiped off or something. good luck

HTC One 4.2.2 update pros and cons

I updated my ONE to 4.2.2 around 3 days ago. Needless to say its a pretty cool and major update. Still some observations..
Mentioned in Update Changelog
DayDream
Improved menu button
Notification Bar
Quick settings
AE|AF lock
Back buton = start of Blinkfeed
Some of the good stuff which wasnt mentioned in the log
Gallery has removed the extra step to go to events, albums etc
App drawer animation is waaay smoother
Dynamic contrast now doesnt flicker the screen [I think]
If you have multiple types of numbers stored for a contact, it comes up in small just above the message from the type the message has come
Some of the Issues I found
Normal mode in camera produces a blue tinge in the view finder
BoomSound volume is a little lesser
Power saving mode has degraded. Or maybe the brightness level has been increased. Something has changed in that
One more - I got Wechat preinstalled after this update!
Any of you facing any issues?
I saw nothing wrong with the camera.
But i hav one priblem since 4.1.2 the keyboard flicker sometime, does anybody hav this also??

Can someone who has 4.2.2 comment as to whether there is still a waiting period when sending group messages? What I mean is that when you send a group mms message, there is a small popup with a blue circle that says "Please wait..." Is that still the case? Thanks.
I can confirm too that boomsound sounds a little lesser. and the camera I tested In a bright sunny day, in the screen is something (better I think) and them the picture taken is a little warmer.
The sky quality even in sunny day have a very bad quality. its like 8bit blue color.
my sound isnt as loud anymore and i think my battery got worse, i get 1 hour less screen time -_-
Sound is down for sure but my guess is that some people blew their speakers with very loud files I assume this is a "fix"
Power saver mode doesn't work after update.... Seriously need to fix it soon

Yeah proximity issue. Once a call starts, suddenly the screen would go black and I have to toggle the power button to turn it on. And when you do that, it wont turn off i.e the proximity wont work.
I have no issues with the camera, seems very good still to me...I get the proximity issue though it seems intermittent, I don't really use the speakers to be fair so not sure about the difference there. They still kick the crap out of any other phone I've heard so can't complain! I also think my battery isn't as good as it was though I'm getting there with it. Think the settings are just a little different. I did notice that there seem to be two auto-brightness settings by default if you tap the brightness in quick settings there is a bright and a dim auto-brightness by the looks of it to me.....might be wrong (and I dont mean powersaver auto-brightness, that is lower again!)
Since the 4.2.2 update, my wifi takes between 2-4 attempts before it successfully connects to my d-link router, i also have an Huawei router and it`s the same, before the update it only took one attempt
Also the new drop down setting list, wifi, bluetooth ect. where is the GPS one.
John.
Videos didnt work after update
I have videos downloaded in my videos folder wich were running fine before ota 4.2.2 update. but after update video extension were not supported anymore.
i am running htc stock videoplayer only
Battery... battery took a hit, and not a small one.
I'd say 20% is just gone... and "Kernel (Android OS)" looks to be the bad guy who's ****ing things up.
battery life has gone down
Worth noting that I had massive wakelocks from 7 Digital so disabled that and my battery seems better already.....

Mine went down for the first couple of days but now seems to have settled down and if anything is slightly better.
Seems the battery needs to recalibrate over a few charge cycles.
15% and 100% battery level notification sound, wish i could disable it

Anyone?
Also i think it takes more time to charge now..
As people mentioned, battery might need 3-4 cycles to recalibrate...
And yes dynamic contrast flickering has stopped. Screen doesn't into an infinite loop trying to adjust the brightness on a white background screen. Need more confirmation though..

Battery is horrible, I got my update about a week ago and no improvements. In fact, after first charge since 4.2.2 battery was EXCELLENT. But since then, it's awful. Power saving mode is not working, I had it on all the time because phone would overheat in these temperatures. (40+ degrees).
I am seriously thinking about rooting my phone and installing Paranoid Android on it, I love Sense but 4.2.2 just made the phone worse in my opinion
The only thing that's keeping me from moving it's the boom sound + beats audio.

LED notifier

Hi
Just over from the Z2 forum (was going to buy one) but there are LED problems when using LED manager or light flow. Only RGB, not easy to see, doesn't always work. Had the M8 for 2 days and returned it as LED notifier was shocking. Have an S3 and want to upgrade to something different so wondered how the G2 faired in this area as a problematic/basic/small LED notifier is a deal breaker for me.
Thanks for any thoughts
I am using Light Flow with my G2. Initially, I had to do a factory reset to get it working but I believe that was caused by restoration of data by google servers when I switched devices. I disabled that auto-backup and restore, reset, and Light Flow has worked perfectly ever since. BTW, do not worry that disabling backup/restore/sync with Google Servers means your contacts and calendar won't restore, this is something different). All you really lose when disabling the auto-backup and restore is stuff like Wi-Fi Connection info, a few preferences and such, which I hardly noticed.

Thanks. Do you get all the colours. Is the LED bright and easily noticeable?
Yes, it's bright and noticeable. Same brightness to me (as the Samsung GS3 which was my previous device, too). Not as bright as on my older BlackBerry devices but on those devices, the LED aperature wasn't round, it was more oval/oblong, so it emitted more light.
Definitely not a wishy-washy dim light though, but also does not completely light up a dark room at night. I feel that it's just right (subjective, of course).
Edit/Add: if you do get a G2 and install Light Flow, just get it working first before installing any other apps (other than at least one 3rd party app) JUST to make sure it's working. That way, if you do need to reset, you haven't installed all your other apps yet.
Also, I forgot to mention the colours. It supports the usual range of colours, you can also set custom colours I assume by RGB (I have never tried, as there seem to be enough colours for my use). 13 presets plus custom.

This is great especially as you had an S3 so can properly compare. I'm going to get one. Are the buttons on the back really as annoying as some reviewers make out?

The buttons on the back are great. And you'll hardly use them anyway as knock on turns the phone on and off. So I've hardly even touched the power button.

[Q] Google Camera problem - Nexus 4

Hi there.
My problem is this. When you restart my phone works with about 1400mb free RAM. A few days ago I had to do in a short time many photos 20-25 in HDR mode. After 20 picture the camera kick me out, and when I looked at how much RAM I have, I found that I had free only 150mb. I noticed that when taking pictures of RAM consumption increases progressively with each shot, not once. Another thing I noticed that this consumption occurs only when taking pictures in HDR mode. When off HDR shooting mode there is no problem. Separately in the Running Apps nowhere figuring out what is currently using as much memory. When I reboot the phone everything falls into place, but every 20 photos i restart it, and I do not think that is normal. I would like to use HDR. My friends with* Nexus 4 have the same problem, which means that the problem is not in my phone. Can any of you to try and convince you. Before the update I had no problem with the camera and I hope you do not have to go back to the old camera. My question is there a way to fix the problem. Thanks and sorry for my English.
Unfortunately, Your friend and you arent the only one. I have the same problem with pictures in HDR and I am also on a nexus 4... :/
Same problem here. Also in photoshere, after 8-10 photos photosphere kicks me out. havnt still found fix to this issue..
After I took 20+ photos in HDR, free RAM was only 261 MB, and N4 was totaly slow. There sure are problems with google camera.
this is an ongoing issue since sometime now with no fix in sight.
My N4 restarts automatically after taking few shots. the same happens at times in other applications as well. so I don't think it's Camera application itself, but camera drivers or something which is creating the problem.
Yes the infamous camera reboot was supposedly solved in 4.4.3 but it appears that many are still having the issue. It is camera driver related and affects all applications that utilize any of the devices cameras.

Galaxy S5 camera is laggy

I've searched around and I could not find a way to fix my problem.
Its quite simple to explain I guess... whenever I move my phone around to take a photo, it gets very laggy. The image preview that I see at the screen gets very laggy and out of time (it takes a few seconds to show up on the phone after something moved).
I have tried all the modes and the weird thing is that I haven't experienced lag on the Shot and More mode. However that's not convenient (at least for me) since it's gonna take forever to take the picture since it takes a few of them. On the auto mode and the beauty thing mode the picture preview on the screen provided by the camera is still very very laggy.
Photo stabilization IS off and HDR mode is off as well. Picture quality is set to HD (16 mp)
Soooo any ideas? Thanks in advance.
Your description is a bit vague. To the limits of the information you provide, it sounds like normal behaviour. You imply that it works fine before you move it. And as one would expect when you change the scene, the camera has to recalculate focus, exposure and everything else which takes a finite amount of time. Moreover you are using the camera at it's maximum resolution where such adjustments would take the maximum amount of time.
And plausibly the effect is minimized when you use a multiple shot mode where you would expect the camera to be optimized for sequential adjustments.
Unfortunately you didn't give us any details of whether it changes when you select lower resolutions, type of scenes shot, lighting, type of focus used or any other details. Looking for a pattern or even having a more detailed description would help eliminate some possibilities an d more accurately characterize the issue.
Based on the limited information provided, it sounds normal. Just the limit of the camera design.

Actually, to me, it doesn't sound normal at all!
I'm not sure if I'm misunderstanding him or you are, but what I got from his message is that it's not a focus lag, but the the actual image that appears on the screen that lags behind what the camera is currently being aimed at.
He says that if something moves, it will take a few seconds before you see that it has moved on the screen.
In addition, the fact that in Shot & More mode, it doesn't happen seems to confirm that something's wrong.

To good thing (hopefully) is that it seems that it's a software problem, and not hardware, because otherwise you probably would have the same issue in Shot & More mode.
I don't know if you have a custom rom, or if you're still stock, but you might want to try to reflash your rom over the current one first, and if that doesn't work, you may have to do a full wipe.
If you're using a custom rom, you might want to try a different rom altogether (+ full wipe) to see if it makes a difference.
If you decide to go down that road, please read the corresponding thread(custom, stock, ... for your model) to avoid bricking your phone..

Uhm, I'm using the default rom (the one that came with my phone when I bought it)
By the way I could not log in back to my old account so I created this second one lol, sorry about it.
Anyway do you need any more info?
How do I reflash my rom? Sorry I don't know these terms too well :c

You could go to the Android Development section and read all about it, but if you've never done it and are not comfortable with it, it might be better to just do a factory reset of your device (make sure to backup everything you want to keep first), or check if there's an update (Software update in the settings).
