Im going to be purchasing the Verizon variant of the G2 in a week or so. I know as of right now, the phone is compatible with Loki. My questions are what specific software version is the G2 at? Does anyone know if a software update is coming? How can I check the software version of the phone in the store, without telling Verizon why I care about it?
Thanks!
phone comes running 4.2.2 and most likely will see an update at some time but there has not been official word of a set date that I know of

Thanks, is there a build number or anything I should be aware of?
Also, I've heard the white version will be coming out this week. It would likely be running the same build version?
not positive of the verizon build number. I know they did a very small update right after release so I am sure it will have that preinstalled.

I'm assuming that update is the one that's still able to be Loki'd. Crossing my fingers that nothing changes until I can get one.
as far as I have seen in the dev sections you can still use loki. just make sure to read up before you use loki and start flashing.

One last quick question
on my previous devices, once a newer software has been installed, its been impossible to go back to an older software version. If the G2 has a newer version that isnt compatible with Loki, does LG let you revert back to an older build? From what I've been reading on the TWRP thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2449670 it kinda sounds like it.
Sorry to ask, but Ive never had an LG before.
personally I don't know. Maybe someone else will chime in that knows for sure.
Build version doesn't matter.

Are you positive? When the S4 came out it was Loki'd but the ME7 build came out and killed that. Is Loki for the G2 different somehow?
I'm not meaning this to sound negative, just genuinely curious. LG development is so much different than Samsung or anything else I've been on.

As of right now, the newest software version for the VZW G2 is VS98011A. There are no issues rooting and romming that version.
To check what version it is, go to Settings -> About Phone -> Software Information. Its Software Version.

Thanks for providing me with the current software version.
I do know how to find the version number on the phone. I just am trying to figure out how I can check the version number before I commit to buying one. But if fr8cture is correct about the build number not mattering, this would all be moot.
Since the latest version is no problem, you should be good.

The reason I say that is there is yet to be a problem with the updates so far. Also you should be able to flash back to any version fo the software through the back to stock threads. They are LG tools.

current build is vs98011a. try settings, general, about phone, software update or software info/software version on vzw model. root and loki exploit working on both versions, make sure u flash what u have.
The newest update since the release has the last part of the software build 980-11a

From all the leaked screenshots we can see, android 5.0 looks exactly like the kitkat LG UI. We are not getting the pure, stock lollipop(like white drawer etc). So, if we are going to loose unlocked bootloader, do we really need it?
Nobody is forcing you to upgrade. If you don't like the theme LG is using then stick with what you're using now.

If I understand you right there is two questions in what you wrote:
1. is LG keeping their signature UI design in the upcoming upgrade Android 5.0?
Answer: yes because this is always how it has been and will continue to be, valid not only for LG. Exception of course Play editions for some makes. Pure Google/AOSP UI look without LG launcher/apps will always be via custom roms.
2. Will I loose my Bumb/unlocked bootloader if I take the official upgrade?
Answer: not sure that will work either, but ya one could loose ability to bump bootloader after flashing official update. As soon as the upgrade is official some stock rooted roms will pop up ready to be flashed. There is even a leaked android 5.0 around now

There's more, MUCH more, to 5.0 than just the UI. To be honest, the visual changes are actually secondary to the system changes as far as I am concerned. I'm far more interested in the power management updates, camera enhancements, etc... Material design is basically window dressing.

Why did you think LG s going to release a AOSP looking L ?
Most of what you see in stock is just the Lollipop Now Launcher, which is limited and to my eyes ugly as sin. All that white is just horrible.
Most of the rest in the G3 is similar to the same as stock. Either way ill be using Nova, so its fine.
They will be changing it a bit

[DEV][REF]How to add root support to LL boot.img
As long as you dont install the new bootloader, you can keep TWRP.
They figured out that the new boot.img could be bumped and flashed in the old bootloader.

This wasn't the case with the note 2. The update to 4.3 bootloader blocked going back to an earlier stock version of android.

Also, although @autoprime has confirmed the release of Android L for the D855 does not implement anti-rollback, this does not mean that other variants will not implement something to keep us from going back to previous software versions, then you may be stuck with Android L but no root or TWRP permanently

We're probably gonna have to wait for that a bit more. I'm currently on CM12, cause I don't like the stock limitations, so it will most likely pass a few days till they rebuild CM12 and include what 5.1 has brought new, so I'll stick with what I've got right now, which is 5.0.2.
So, we'll see some flashable ROMs based on Android 5.1 after a few minutes, hours, days, depending on how fast the developers move.
EDIT: If you're on stock, when the update comes out, the best move is to update your device through OTA, not with flashable zips.

If you are still running the official stock before lollipop it is a definite improvement, however LG should be releasing the actual official release here sooner (starts trying not to laugh) or later.
Oh who am I kidding, we aren't seeing the official update until fall here in the states for the V500.
LG's non phone updates are difficult to forecast to say the least. They seem to be primarily focusing on their phones (G2, G3 and now the G4) the tablet business appears to be an afterthought.
The QPair stuff seems to finally be working for me after testing this weekend. In previous situations it could not handle disconnections and reconnections very well. Now that both devices are running lollipop and the latest version of QPair things seem to be working better... In addition my problem with SDCard's perpetually unmounting on stock 4.4.2 appears to have gone away with lollipop. My problem after a long amount of research, only occurred when the pad sleeps in a certain way. I do not have to root and disable a certain sleep mode anymore with the new release (so far with one week of testing the Korean v500 release).

Can u be more precise about the issue? I didn't understand what you're trying to say.
I'm gonna update with the Korean version as I can no longer wait for the update, but time is preventing me
There is a thread about it.... Basically the sdcard starts unmounting uncontrollably. It is now (as of this evening) confirmed to still be present in the Korean release. Which means as before I will avoid the LG built kernel... If you want you can monitor your tablet with the app called sdcard monitor by Ahmed Moharram in the play store. If you get bad removals without rebooting your tablet you have the problem.
The thread that I was thinking of is linked below, and other threads/posts are referenced in my post in that thread... I find that running certain roms or kernels avoids the issue completely which really bothers me since it means that the devs know this tablet better than LG actually does... I know it isn't a hardware problem since the 4.2.2 original release of the software for this tablet does not exhibit the issue...
Thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g-pad-83/general/solved-sd-card-unmounting-issue-t3053909
I thought the notification names and related were changed to English default in this rom, but it isn't.
There's a qvoice app which displays everything in Korean. What's that?
Better battery life yes, but takes time to set up again!!

If same as me (should be, in Australia as well), it's NPN25.137-67. I was on -15 beforehand. Had to check manually via Settings --> System updates as there was no automated notification, or at least not yet. Therefore if you're still on an older update i'd wait before installing anything manually - the official OTA can't be far away.
