[Guide] Read this before flashing your phone [S2 Variants / Rom&Kernel compatibility]
Since a bunch of people have hardbricked or "softbricked" their phone due to the fact that they use wrong roms/kernels on wrong models and wrong methods, I thought I'd make a guide to prevent that from happening.
First of all, be sure you understand the risks of flashing a custom rom/kernel, i.e. the chance to turn your precious piece of electronics into a worthless piece of plastic.
Secondly, READ READ READ before doing any flashing, make sure you understand the How-To!
How to know if a specified rom runs on your phone?
For that the model numbers have to match, i.e if your model is GT-I9100G or SGH-I927 then GT-I9100 roms DO NOT run on your phone.
Unless it's said otherwise by the rom thread OP - original poster.
How to know if a specified kernel runs on your phone?
The kernel has to match your phones android version, i.e if the rom is GB(2.3.x) then ICS(4.0.x) kernels DO NOT run on your phone

Go to System Settings -> About Phone -> Model Number

I have the gs2 for us cellular (SCH-R760).
I recently updated to ice cream sandwich 4.0.4.
My build number and baseband seem to be saying something about "FK19"
My current kernel is "[email protected] #3".
I noticed that you posted my version at the bottom of the list and I'm trying to root it.
I am basically a noob and am new to this but any help for getting this thing rooted would be appreciated.

it's fake news, have friend working at samsung & he said that 4.2 update is ready for grand & should be expected till mid-july cause of testing, as well as 4.3 update is almost ready for grand & is scheduled for august ( don't know when ) & before 4.2 update there will be one or two more 4.1.2 minor updates

I don't hope that too much time goes by until the s4 mini receives kitkat but I assume it will take a few weeks because there are flagships/high end devices to take care of and then the midrange devices will follow.
Wonder how long it'll take for kittykat to hit sweden... Maybe its worth waiting instead of messing around with custom ROMs right away (I get my mini today )
... on the other hand, it'll probably be full of bloat and other annoying things which ultimately leads to switching to a custom ROM anyway

That's right! I'm now on SlimKat, but will probably try this official ROM to see how it looks like. And as root it's always possible to uninstall unwanted integrated apps.

Yesterday, Samsung U.S. confirmed that 14 devices will soon be making the switch to Android 4.4 KitKat. However, there was no mention of when international models would be receiving the KitKat update. Fret not users, as we now have confirmation as to which international models will be getting the Android 4.4 KitKat update. The list is Samsung Poland’s official KitKat update list that was obtained today by Polish blogger Robert Nawrowski. It is to be noted that not all models listed below would be making the switch to KitKat right away. They will move to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, and eventually receive Android 4.4 KitKat.

May be true may be not.
After the 4.2.2 update samsung had declared that 4.2 will be last of galaxy grand's update cycle. But rumours are getting around this phone because it is one of the successful handsets samsung ever had in the market. Also people expect that a new update will come out aince the 4.2 updates were utter flop which almost killed the phones.
If the kitkat update rolls out, its well n good.
But the real thing is, it is less likely for the grand to get KK. Samsung may roll out updates to fix the problems in 4.2.2. But 4.4 is a bit far dream.
But as some users quoted grand is also among the update lists released in US and Poland. But still there is a question its Grand or newer Grand 2.
Anyway lets hope for the best, taste kitkat from our developers who are gods compared to a group of mudheads in samsung.

SamMobile is also claiming that it expects the Galaxy J5 (2016) and Galaxy J7 (2016) to be upgraded to Nougat, but there are no confirmations for those devices.
For Galaxy J7 2015 I also expect that it will get the Nougat update since A3 and A5 (16) is on the list and as we all know, A3(16) is inferior than J7 (15) in terms of specs while A5(16) have similar specification with J7(15). Some also claimed that Nougat update needs atleast 2GB of RAM (J7 15 has 1.5GB) . But remember that A3(16) has only 1.5GB of ram but is included in the list. So it's up to Samsung now whether to push through with this update or not.

Yeah, they will release Nougat for J5/J7 2015, but on august I think.
I don't care for nougat that much. It would be great if there were ways to patch the later security updates to mm touchwiz rom without waiting for Samsung to do so. Another gripe is touchwiz multiwindow. I heavily use that. Would love official support on mm.
I dont think samsung upgrade j7 .all midrage device stuck with one or two uodates
MM will be last update for j7 ....
It would be great to see Android N come to the galaxy j7 2016 but who actually knows if it will come to the phone.. my guess is they will give the j7 prime android n and keep marshmallow on the 2015 and 2016 j7. Custom roms sometimes turn out superior over a stock rom with the right devs working on the project. I think id prefer a custom Android N rom. Cause wifi hotspot will be unlocked, performance tweaks, a whole lot of custom stuff and most importantly root access..

UPDATE 2 (LATEST) : Galaxy J3 Emerge receives Wi-Fi certification running Android 7.0 Nougat. Since this device has only 1.5GB ram, this adds to my point that Nougat doesn't needa minimum of 2GB RAM to run Nougat
