Firewater - You'll want to read this - One (M7) General

Alright, so I am trying to S-off an HTC One M7 and I really don't feel like shelling out $25 for sunshine. So I grab a copy of firewater from the wayback machine and proceed to run it only to find out that it deletes itself. Curious... So after looking over the instructions, the required internet connection kind of confused me. So I fire up WireShark to see if it's connecting to a server and getting a command to delete itself...no luck. No traffic from the One. Next, I open fire water in a hex editor to prod around to see if I can find anything interesting...it's long..real long.

This is a dubious hacking attempt that doesn't work.
There are solutions to S-Off, this isn't one of them. Members wishing to achieve S-Off are directed to the XDA Sunshine thread HERE

z4root for XOOM - or similar?

Sorry my new account will only let me post this in the general forum, but I was wondering if there is something similar to z4root in the works for the XOOM so it can be done in one step without all the manual command lines being entered.

The manual process is incredibly simple and almost foolproof... just copy and paste.
Why are people so afraid of the commandline. Here's a hint, typing someting on the command line is kind of like clicking, dragging and dropping, only in text.
check out the sticky in general, it has info on rooting. It is dead simple. If you have any questions on the process, just ask.
Why did you want to root the Xoom anyway? Currently everything that most people want to do sans overclocking is available without root. Wifi Tether is available right out of the box.

Noob needs to Root Fire but having trouble

I have spent about 6 hours crawling through here looking for help, and found a few bits that were helpful, but nothing that solved my problem.
My Fire is just slow as hell and I can't stand it. The list of "problems" is way too long. I want to put CM7 on it so I can have a useful tablet rather than the POS that this thing is in stock form.
I would love a step by step guide for people (Me) who have zero computer skills. I managed to root my HTC EVO, which wasn't too hard, but the Fire is escaping me. I have done everything I have read I needed to do to root this but I can't figure out what is going on.
I have downloaded the Android SDK tools, and successfully put in whatever the alphabet soup is that you all refer to (ADB). I don't even know what ADB means, but I got the SDK manager and all the tools installed.
I downloaded the Kindle Fire Utility 0.9.1 and told my Fire to accept outside apps.
I followed the destructions and tried to install permanent root with superuser according to the Fire Utility, but it keeps saying ABD Status: Online ABD Rooted: NO.
I found a link to something that would check to see if it was actually rooted, but the app does not open in the Fire and does nothing on my computer.
When I tell the Utility to install permanent root with superuser I get this message repeatedly: "They system cannot find the path specified." I get that whenever I try to use the utility to do anything at all, yet it keeps telling me that whatever was installed successfully.
It says I have superuser access (in the utility) yet there is nothing different in the Fire. I can't use Titanium backup, I can't do anything "new" that I couldn't do before.
My Fire experience is pretty poor so far. Google searches are horrible, I try to type in a word and before I get to the second letter it brings up the most common Google search that was run using the first letter... and fills in the rest. I have to delete it all and start again. Often times I try to edit an email and it won't let me click anywhere I want. I try to open a link to a website and half the time it doesn't work. I can't go "Back" until I click the button 4-5 times. It is just stupid. This "tablet" is nothing more than a paperweight and I am pretty honked that Amazon screwed the pooch on this. Top it off with a SUPER slow internet browser that was touted as the greatest thing ever...
Anyway, sorry for the rant, I am just frustrated at this $200 piece of plastic crap. I need help (With the tablet, not mental help).
Where do I begin? Please understand that acronyms mean nothing to me since I am new at this... I need step by step directions for a beginner! I need to get from Kindle Fire POS operating system to CM7 or something like what every other Android runs so I can actually enjoy my tablet rather than get pissed off at it!

Using this for rooting looks like a longshot to me...
Rooting through ADB is much much much safer.

Microsoft Security Essentials detected stuff too, seems like I'll brick my phone with this. So I think I'll just stick with gfree
wanted to try, but kaspersky also say "virus alarm"
Guys, you do realize that rooting exploits are technically viruses, right?
Superoneclick comes up as a virus on my home computer, yet everyone except HTC phone owners use it to gain root.

This tool is downloaded to your computer, then you execute it and it's supposed root your android automatically. Yes, they do show up as viruses sometimes.
The question, is it legit? I have my doubts.

Did a bit of Googling around, just to find out more about why Superoneclick comes up as containing a virus sometimes.
The following gives some theories on why this happens.
http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/fwm9b/superoneclick_severe_virus_alert_in_windows/
So to answer my own question, it seems that the anti-virus programs may indeed be screening for exploits that don't actually affect Windows, but Linux. Whether this is the case with Unlock Root, or its actually spreading a Windows virus, who knows?
These are all very valid points, yes as with any rooting process, you could end up with a nice shiny brick but then again, "He who dares, Wins!"
However i am a at this having just about rooted my old milestone on the 8th attempt so i think i may leave this to someone else a little than me to try 1st!
No good
You know, there are ZERO decent guides, even I'm afraid to say, here on xda on how to successfully, easily and preferrably with a single click, root a Desire Z - and I've been desperate to do mine for a long time. The problem is a lot of the guides have dead links, hard to follow or half missing instructions.
Anyway.
This looked like deep joy, so I just installed it, ran it, changed to USB debug mode, hit "root" against my device and the upshot was that it looked like it went through the process, did a reboot, then still no root (checked with a root checker app and with Avast, trying to access Firewall mode which needs root).
I'm gutted, I thought I could finally make root happen without WAY too complex instructions.
Desire Z, GSM, 2.3.3 unbranded here if that helps anyone out.

I found it pretty easy following the main wiki. You need adb but it's easy if you do a little reading.

It was really hard for me at first learning adb, but now it's pretty easy. I'm no expert, but I can follow directions. PM me if you need any help.
The main things that would concern me about this is that it took so long to be released, it's being told to us by some new person who's barely posted anything before, and even more concerning he never came to check back/talk about it :S
I just rooted a friend's EVO Shift which is really similar to the G2. It was a pain but if you follow the steps to the "t" you should be okay. The reason I meantioned it was because I rooted my G2 when it had stock Froyo on it and was easy as cake The problem which makes it difficult is downgrading to Froyo. Once you get past that part... its as easy as using Visionary apk and clicking a button. Its pretty safe inspite of what people think. I'm all for the one click root apps but it's better (and maybe required) to downgrade to Froyo first.
The REAL problem people have is learning adb. It's easy for us veterans but does seem difficult for most people and the command prompt can be intimidating. the only thing I can suggest is put the adb in a folder that you can remember and just copying and pasting commands. just make sure the spaces in the lines are right and its pretty safe.
About this root tool, yeah, I'd say its much safer to use a reputable method than something new.
and with the virus scanners basically calling all root related stuff viruses... there's no way to check for sure if its safe or not. That's why its probably best to go on reputation. The root exploits are what they say they are: an exploit like some viruses in that category. I recommend Avira virus app for windows because it will actually show you the particular virus in their library/database and it's definition and its use. Very handy app along with AVG. Well... good luck to all!

Wiki guide is the only one you need: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#Rooting_the_Vision_.28G2.2FDZ.29_and_DHD
But it really doesn't sound like you want a guide, you want a one-click solution. This seems to be an increasing trend, as more of the masses get interested in rooting, but don't want to put forth any effort.
It would seem to me that having root, without an understanding of some of the basic terms, concepts, and tools, is a dangerous place to be. Modding your phone without some basic knowledge can get you in a real mess, without the tools to get you out of it.
Do yourself a favor, just start reading. Understand the guide, roll up your sleeves and do it. Its really not that hard. But it will take some time, as many of the terms, tools, procedures will be new to you. But you'll be better for it in the long run. HTC has a tendency to protect their devices from one-click root apps. So if you like HTC devices, you may as well get used to the fact that rooted is a process, and not one click. Plus, with any ROM flashing or other modding, things like ADB are good to know and be able to use, in case things go awry.
Anything in the guide that you don't understand can usually be answered by just using the XDA search function, or Googling around the net. If you make a halfway legit attempt to research the question yourself, and still don't get it, come back to the forums and ask, and somebody will help you.
Agree with Redpoint73.
A tool that does system manipulation on a remote platform isn't a virus on the platform it's run, so programs that manipulate your windows host file perform actions similar to what some viruses do. Open an ADB and push a few commands is NOT that so if your system warns, take that seriously! Even if I would love to have a SuperOneClick give me root on my HTZ Desire Z (work phone so I really shouldn't mess with it) I am NOT interested in touching something like this. Why would someone register a domain and make an entire homepage, rather than posting the code here, unless it was fishy?
I would be ready to bet that these guys can monitize on this in one way or another, so it *might* work as a root but rest assure that either the PC or the phone is contaminated when it's done.
The point of one-click rooting is just to get to the features I want that I've been locked out from... using a firewall app, using a backup app, maybe a quick flash of a ROM without operator bloatware in it - a couple of other features like that. I'm sure the majority of users such as me don't feel we should NEED to learn command sets and technical stuff that we don't need to, nor have the time in our lives to learn.
It's all about features and user experience for me - and I can't get to those features without root. I don't want to do anything complex, arcane or put nightlies on, but simply have a lighter ROM with a couple of more features, and that doesn't need anything more than a button marked "Root".
Cheers for all the input on this everyone.

If you bricked your Fire using KFU, read this thread!

Don't use KFU.
Not to take anything away from the developers of KFU either. Its a fine utility that can save you a lot of time and effort, if you know what you're doing. It does you no good if you don't know what's going on behind the scenes.
That being said, of you find yourself in a situation where you are stuck at the Kindle Fire logo or yellow triangle, you are in the wrong bootmode; simple as that.
To fix your device, open your command prompt and type...
cd desktop
Plug your device into the computer and turn it off (hold power button for 30 sec.)
Find the program called "fastboot" in either your KFU or AndroidSDK folder and place it on your desktop.
Turn on your device, wait a few seconds and type...
fastboot devices
If it returns with a string of numbers, type...
fastboot -i 0x1949 oem idme bootmode 4000
Then restart your device (hold power button for 30 sec. and restart)
IF "fastboot devices" doesn't print a string of numbers (try more than once), then your drivers need to be reinstalled, MANUALLY.
IN EITHER CASE, READ THIS THREADhttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23747567, first and second posts...thoroughly, and start over. kinfauns took a lot of his time to make a very informative tutorial for everyone that's easy to understand. Please pay him the respect that he deserves and read it.
IF that didn't work you should read this threadhttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20380015 Acquire one of these, and try again.
This will fix 99.999999999999999999999999999999999999% of all "Kindle Fire bricked" issues you could possibly come across.
After you fixed your device, search the forums for "adb" and/or "fastboot" and LEARN everything these things can do and how to use them before doing ANYTHING to your device ever again.
After that's done, if you want a little extra credit, use Google to learn about all the wonderful little things you can do using nothing more than your command prompt.
Thank you.

Thanks for the endorsement. I wrote the guide so new users could try things on their own or at least have enough knowledge about their device to ask meaningful questions. Maybe the guide has been successful in this regard to some degree, but I think there will always be a group of new users who would rather post a new question than read a lengthy post. I've tried pushing people toward reading a bit and not feeding them the answer, but that seems to be met with "can't you just tell me what to do?" kind of response. Hopefully there's a silent group out there who actually got what they needed out of my guide and didn't start a new thread with the same old questions.
I've been feeling a bit under the weather the past week, but I'm working on a small fastboot/adb guide. Maybe that will help ween some more people off of their KFU dependency.
Thanks again!
Awesome. I would love to contribute any way I can.

ZTE Blade Z Max z982 possible FRP removal?????

I Came across an interesting YouTube video(actually 2 videos of the same phone) of a way to remove frp from a Google Nexus running Nougat 7.0/7.1.1 using Termux and terminal emulator along with Dirtycow and Gam6-7.1.1 apk files. The video itself is in Portuguese according to YouTube auto translate, but with careful study and pausing its pretty straight forward. Now the ZTE Blade Z max z982 is no Nexus for sure but being this is a tutorial using Termux apk and terminal emulator apk to remove Google frp 7.0-7.1.1. (Blade Z Max comes out of box with 7.1.1.) I figured I'd give it a shot after multiple attempts to access without any computer as the everyday device user has basic computer knowledge and relies on step by step video tutorial to work into their device. Now this does require having the Z982 bypass the setup wizard which I'm sure if you have been searching for a way back into your device after forgetting your email password or if you bought second hand (like myself) and the previous owner incorrectly reset the device before selling you probably already know this method. If not a simple YouTube search will turn up results as to how to do that. So with all necessary downloaded files I gave it a shot. Worked flawlessly even let me install GAM6.apk.Worked well up until the part where he hit the disable option on Google Account Manager (16:48 in video) 3 times and the icon changed to a sdcard icon and read "com.google.android.gsf.login". Now I think this guy is pretty clever with this method but I'm clueless as to how he was able to do exactly what he did at that point in the video. I am not sure if this has been fixed by a patch. I am patched at August 1 2017. Also it dosent clarify the chipset but am quite sure the Nexus runs Qualcomm and not MTK, as does the Blade. I translated the page to read a few comments and the main issue seemed to be the same issue I'm facing. I do know that "com.google.android.gsf.login" is the key step in the list of activities that GAM performs upon startup that is blocked until previous email and password are provided and permissions are granted to that particular activity. I was hoping that a more experienced member or user familiar with system level apps and privileges could make sense of what exactly he has done in the video as I am a intermediate user and I am still learning Android systems and using developer tools. If anyone has any knowledge with these core level apps and could possibly figure out a work around or contribute to what he has done with the Nexus phone I'm positive this would be very helpful to Z982 owners and Nougat users across all devices as I'm sure with this method the phone is 95% the of the way through a successful "no computer needed" bypass method. This is by no means a walk in the park for the everyday user and will require some knowledge and a bit of research to complete the tutorial for those who may come upon this post and decide to try. I do know of methods to bypass this issue but have dedicated my time and research to finding a handset method only as this would help many z982 owners immensely. This is intended for the rightful owners of this device and all devices applied who may have forgotten their gmail password or for those who purchased second hand or obtained legally and the previous owner incorrectly reset the device and can't be contacted. This is NOT intended for the use by thieves who obtain phones through deceptive measures. I do not condone any illegal activity and may karma find you when you least expect it for those who partake in such activities! The video is pretty lengthy not in English and be prepared to use the pause button numerous times unless your advanced and are familiar with Termux and terminal commands. Also using the Blade Z Max meant a few small steps had to be changed in order to get the files to copy to Termux. For this I suggest using the storage tab in settings/phone/used space/other and hit explore and find download folder which will allow you to copy gam6.apk and Dirtycow fIle(unzip first) into Termux. Hopefully we will find a solution to this problem for this device for those who have no or limited computer access or knowledge of flashing and firehose files and more advanced removal methods. I'll keep hunting and researching and will update upon discovery of a successful method. Links are posted below.

You should do your research more thoroughly before promoting methods. None of those files (except for the frp-bypass.apk) are rootjunky's, and the method isn't his either. I discovered the dirtycow method, and I released it for free on YouTube for everybody to use as they wish and the only thing I asked in return was the credit for finding it. This is just clear evidence that I should have branded the method and charged everybody instead.
Also please PM me the URL for both of the videos you found on YouTube in other languages, guarantee they're just reuploads of my content and I'd like to copyright strike them.
The post was meant to possibly spark ideas and gain input on a method that would cover all devices. All of us in the Android community thank you for your Discovery and contribution of the dirty cow method we really do.. But excuse and forgive me for coming across one person's video of your hijacked method before finding you or your original method first! I'm trying to help people out and if my failed attempt at trying to bypass what has now become a 6 months long frp project, generates and Sparks a new idea at attacking and approaching this issue, then it's progress logged! I can unlock and bypass it in less then 10 seconds and have dedicated my device and purposely hard reset it to try and find a way for the public who can't afford the tools I have at my disposal. The files I came across were all on this guy's YouTube. I'm passing along info not performing research for a 6th grade science project let alone tracking down the founder of the method being used. But now that I'm informed and armed with this new information I'll be sure to mention you any time I refer to the dirty cow method, anywhere in the online community. I'll gladly pm you the links.
Have to figured this out yet and found a solution for the ZTE?
Uniandroidtool can do it, it costs $50 but it's worth it. It can bypass FRP on many phones. I would do it for you but remote support is not currently available.

Finally!!?!
Well here ya guys go, a free bypass method! Even more startling, seems like it's discovered by a 10 year old..
Nice work kid!
By the way, just a heads up, the kid goes pretty fast, but he walks you thru all the steps so watch carefully.
I verified it works, good luck.

Method Failed
This failed for me. I can get the credentials moved over but when I go through the setup the lock is still there. I figured out that the credentials are copied over, a new user is being created in my case, and the original account is still there. . I can get to settings but I cannot enable developer move because is says I'm not the primary user. Maybe I missed a crucial step but I don't know what.

This
[]So I followed this guy's way the first time but I figured out my security patch was newer than his. So I did everything just like he did.

Once I copied my account it kept sending me into a loop saying I still haven't verified and took me back to step one. So after so I factory reset wiped partition cash i connected wifi enabled copied account from other device went back to talk back went to talk back settings made the L gesture and paused feedback in menu then scrolled down to help on talk back settings and clicked first help topic clicked to play video then hut the clock button on the video bringing up chrome didn't sign in unchecked feedback then in the address bar I typed

Scrolled down and downloaded the two files for ZTE and boom went through all the settings disabled administrators unchecking crap that could sync. I threw my sim card in unlocked device for any network restarted booted like normal updated phone using it now to type not using the launcher 3 app tho using Nova launcher.
