How to enable wi-fi tethering in Lollipop? - ONE General

Disclaimer: since this thread is regarding tips/tricks and isn't about troubleshooting a problem or anything to do with a specific ROM/kernel, then I feel this forum (General) is the appropriate place for it.
So kit-kat ruined tethering, everyone knows that. But I remember being able to adjust some settings and using root to tweak a configuration file or something like that to get it working again (T-Mobile). It's probably irrelevant to note that I'm using Lollipop currently, but I'm wondering what people have had success doing to get tether functioning again? For reference, I'm using the Tmo $30 plan.
EDIT:
1. I made this thread because a search for tether or tethering basically listed every single thread across all forums, which didn't really help at all.
2. I guess a discussion about this may prove useful for people, and for searches in the future, but for my purposes I just tested it without any tweaking and it seems to be working great as is (CM12). Hooray!

[Q] Multiple Phone Wireless Tether

I have a hypothetical question, and while I'm sure someone has surely thought of it before, I can't seem to ask google the right way to find it.
A long time ago, when we were still using those screaming demons called modems, it was believed that the only way to increase your connection speed was to use multiple modems, each with a cat5 port in the computer. It was called stacking, or something like that.
After massively enjoying the process of rooting my Evo, my first ever >free, non-metropcs phone, this got me to thinking. If I have two rooted android phones, can I somehow sync their tether, using a program on the pc to organize which phone downloads which parts of a webpage or file, essentially doubling my connection speed? It seems viable, very possible, leading me to believe that it can be done and is being done and I simply haven't found it yet. This is one of the places where I learned how to root, it's a very knowledgeable community, and I'm sure someone here will have an answer, so thanks in advance.

Questions About WiFi Tethering With The G2

I have the opportunity to buy a Sprint LG G2 but would like some input from this community about the WiFi tethering capabilities of this device. I currently have an LG OG and there are issues with the WiFi tethering on it but I also have an LG Nexus 5 that runs WiFi thethering flawlessly. Since this device is said to be similar to the Nexus 5 I was hoping the Wifi tethering worked well on it also. I use FoxFi WiFi tethering app on most of my devices. It does not work on the LG OG however. I just basically want to know which tethering app works and which one doesn't.
THANKS!!
Sprint completely blocks all tethering access. Even through foxfi and open garden etc. You have to pay for the tethering service. The mobile data is indeed truly unlimited but the catch is its LIMITED to there mobile. As far as I know there is no way around it unless you root the device your wanting to tether but I'm not even positive that will work.

Thanks for your reply but apps like FoxFi allow you to tether without being detected for tethering. You still are deducted for data usage but not tethering. I was mainly asking if tethering apps work on this device because the one I'm getting is on Boost mobile, its not 4G but their 3G is good and for the price its actually great. So, if someone with this device that is rooted would kindly install Foxfi and tell me if it allows you to tether it to your PC I would appreciate it very much....Thanks..
Right I tried it on a unrooted Sprint g2 and I couldn't find ANY workarounds at all. That's what my input was on so yea. Someone else will chime in for you your welcome.
In order to get tethering working on the G2 for Sprint you must be rooted. Instructions are in the sprint develolment forum. Tethering apps do not work. The method is to modify the stock tethering app. Its the only current method available.

I know how to root this device and understand that it needs to be rooted to use wifi tether to make it work. I had a feeling this device had the same problem as the LG OG on tethering....I have TrevE's WiFi Tether on my OG and though I can get internet connection and download regular files, for some reason I can't download torrents and I've tried every setting combination possible. I was hoping this device had the same system as the Nexus 5 and not the OG..
Its titled "native hotspot" cant post links right now. short on time. As far as torrents go all sprint has to do is block torrent sites, and ip addresses associated. If you have tethering and cant do torrents... its likely blocked on sprint's side. Btw, downloading torrents via mobile data is a bad idea and I strongly advise you dont do so for many reasons.

Thanks, I'll try to find the post...I've used wifi tethering on a few different Boost Service (sprint) phones with no problems what so ever....if I used FoxFi Tethering App. I can usb tether using PDAnet and it will work but most of the time I need to be able to use WiFi.
May I ask exactly what your concerns are about downloading torrents via mobile data? I've done it for a couple years now without any problems...
Update: I looked it up and it looks good except that I won't be able to update the Rom at this time...
I dont have concerns about torrents, but you should. Frankly, if you dont know why or havent researched it, Im not one to tell you. Good luck.

Well, I appreciate all your input anyway....I just have to believe there is someone on this forum that has their device flashed to Boost that knows what I am talking about.
I do know what you are talking about. I have a G2. Ive used pdanet and alot of other tethering apps. The thread I pointed you to is the only way to tether on the G2 right now on Sprint, period. There are no other known mods or.apps for tethering on the G2. If that mod will work on Boost I have no idea and I assume there are very few that have a g2 on Boost, if anyone does.

I didn't mean to make it sound like I was saying you didn't know what you were talking about, I apologize if it sounded as if I did. I was just hoping someone here had theirs on Boost and was familiar with how tethering worked on it. From what I can tell reading that thread and the thread on the Rom you have to have for the tethering mod, its pretty stable and the features are good too. I have been trying to figure out what to do because I have the opportunity to get a G2 or HTC One for the same price and am having a hard time making up my mind on which one will work the best for me. I prefer the G2 for its hardware but the development is better on the One. I really appreciate your help though, as I have said before....

[Q] Issue with wireless Tether

I have been having issues with the wifi tether that are confusing me a bit. A little back ground:
After installing KK (stock) via zip, I had no issues with Tether. A few weeks after the upgrade, I tried the LTE fix for the 1st time, and there was much happiness.. everything seemed good (I'm on T-Mobile btw, it worked awesome). Sometime after the 4.4.2 OTA installed, I tried to use the tether, and it seemed normal, but nothing I connected to it could actually access a webpage. On my PC, I could connect to the hotspot and Ping a website, but it would not load it (used www.cnn.com to test, easy to type). I even tried using the IP address generated by the ping test, but no luck. It is obviously able to resolve an address in DNS.
I decided to start playing with some ROMS, and found a couple I liked, but still ran into the issue with tethering, but now was happening without 4G too... until I tried a PA ROM. this ROM has the tether working even with the 4G enabled, so I know it's not a hardware issue with my phone, bg relief. The issue I have is there was one ROM I was really hoping to stick with, a CM11 Nexus 5 Experience ROM. BUt ebven tho I keep trying after updates, it still wont work I have tried all 4 versions they have this past weekend and can get data to other devices even on the non-4G ROMS. There has to be something I'm missing here.
Anyone else run into this and found whats causing it?
There are numerous threads and articles all over the internet that explain what this and how to fix it, post 4.2.2. Before you dive in, check to make sure you aren't using T-Mobile's IPv6 APN, as it does not support tethering (at least right now).
I suggest you go read up in the general section, as I'm pretty sure the thread is there. The fix involves editing a sqlite database to allow tethering.
Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. Everything seems good now with the ROM I was trying, and I think I can get others to work as well. Much appreciated!

Asking for a bit of help, tethering and rooting related

I have an unlocked AT&T 1337 Samsung S4 and am using it on the T-Mobile Network. I am fine with it as it is an old phone and such but my biggest issue is i Need to somehow Enable WiFi Tethering. My previous Phone was a S3 from T-mobile and that was no trick to get it rooted and all i wanted within a week of owning it. I haven't had time lately to do what i want with my current phone. (no pitty party but my father just died and i cant be bothered with much) and i need to get tethering working if at all possible. I also am moving Very soon (a couple days more than 2 weeks to another state any I'll be flying although i will need to get tethering before that I need it to get data access on my tablet.)
So No pity party from me, I just ask if anyone knows at least some links to set me on my way without having to use google and try to do it right as i need this phone and cannot make any errors.
Lastly my phone is unlocked (that doesn't matter) because when i try to tether it says "wrong sim network" or something i can post exact if it matters in a reply. I believe it must be rooted unless their is an app i don't know about. I have always gotten great responses here but I have never asked the feed me information question. Sadly this pc is comming down very soon and i only have much time for craigs list (selling 80% of what i own)
I TYIA for links to current informational posts about what i need to do. ill be looking myself too (and have been just hoping what i found is the right information. I was going to follow a guide like this if not this one
http://www.androidblog.gs/how-to-root-att-galaxy-s4-sgh-i337-on-android-4-4-4-kitkat-firmware/
Please tell me if the above link will help me succeed or brink my only phone right now.
I've rooted and installed new roms, even used Odin to clean all the stuff off my S3 but that was a different ballgame, it was a t mobile phone on t mobile and it was a simple flash.
Again TIA
I have the same unlocked phone on the same network. This is what I did to get it to work.
1. Root phone
2. Used titanium backup to freeze the "app" called "TetheringAutomation 1.0.1". I assume there are other apps that could do the same.
Prior to that the tethering process would just crash. The same is true for my wife's Galaxy S5 which is not rooted and cannot tether. I haven't used it much, mind you, but I have noticed that sometimes I have to try to turn on the tethering 2-3 times before it will stay on but then it works fine.
Here is the guide I used to root the phone (you don't have to install the xposed framework if you don't want or need it):

Sorry about your father.

Developer needed for N900P

Im looking for a dev to help making 6.0 roms work for the N900p for Sprint network. All roms load well but lose all cellular and data abilities. There is 1 sprint rom that is 6.0 that works but isnt completed. I have a very good idea what the issue is and im willing to use my Note3 as a teat device.
Please comment or PM if interested.
Thank you.

Would be nice for someone to fix texting on N900P with cell number. It's a problem I've yet found a workaround for. No big deal for me since I use my google voice number with hangouts instead.
The cell service/data can be achieved. BUT...
Depending on rom, radio might switch on you to non-working or to the verizon network (happened a lot on older n5 darklord ports).
Of all the times I've tried helping people achieve this, no one can replicate my methods. Which is: get 4g switcher app, enable airplane mode, set radio in app to lte/cdma/gsm, enable radio in app, app crashes, disable airplane mode, done. If this doesn't work you'll have to kick radio back to normal with a stock rom first. Then wipe/install custom rom.
The Aurora N5/N7 6.0.1 ports have been my daily drivers since those have been giving no issues with cell service once I do that method.
The ports have come a long way. They no longer crash the dialer and disables cell service after a call.
Maybe you would do better in the SPRINT forum .
Doubt if any of the DEVS in this forum have a Sprint model Note 3 or any interest in it .
You may receive a greater response by posting here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-sprint
@JJEgan, @audit13
Nobody is developing for the N900p in the Sprint forum. There is one guy but he just did the initial release and needs help. I belive i know why cell and data wont work I just dont have the experience to do it.

I'm not a developer; however, I know that having access to the particular phone is essential for bug testing.
I wish you luck in your quest.

Am not a developer, though, I would like to know if you solved the issue of data and cellular. I had the same problem. Solved it after an extensive search on the forum, and believe me, things where scattered but I got through. Had issues of null imei, ******something, something, Android system has stopped**** I would be glad to help. Though, my phone is now KITKAT 4.4.4
You are replying to a two year old post and may get no reply .
As said this is not the Sprint forum .
