[Q] Nexus 7 (2012 WiFi) charging problem. - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello!
I have a Google Nexus 7 2012 WiFi (grouper) tablet. 16GB version.
I recently formatted it to F2FS file system and installed SlimKat rom 4.4.4.build.9.0-8258
with TWRP 2.8.5.1 It is not rooted yet (postponed it because laziness).
Starting from today for some reason my recently bought 2.1A charger was barely charging my Nexus 7. Before it was working very well. Charging as supposed to,even when watching videos. I had an idea to check the amps coming in from the charger, so I installed Ampere app which measures charging current. To my surprise, Nexus 7 was taking barely 150 miliamps. Sometimes it would jump to 400, even up to 550, then it would drop to 40 and sometimes even to 0 for a few seconds, when in reality it should be charging stable 1500 miliamps.
I decided to check the same cable with the same Ampere app on my Samsung Galaxy S3. To my surprise again, Galaxy was charging with very stable 1000 miliamps just like it is supposed to. I tried several other Samsung cables and they were giving about 500ma to Nexus, although it was constantly jumping somewhere between 400-550. Using the same cables on Galaxy I would get 600 or 700 stable miliamps of charging.
I cannot explain this. All the cables give unstable charge to Nexus, as opposed to stable and higher charge to Galaxy. And especially the cable with 2.1 amps (Travel charger from a Polish brand Forever, without detachable cable - not a cheap one) , meant for tablets is giving the worst and most unstable charge. And it has been charging without problems before, and still is - just not my Nexus.
So I can only assume that the problem is either with charging port on Nexus, or something is wrong with battery? Could it somehow be the new ROM + file system? I find it very unlikely but still can't completely rule out without listening to your opinions.
Thanks in advance,
viuksuns

[Q] Nexus 10 Battery Drain and Dead

Hi Anybody!
I have a Nexus 10 - which works normally by the way for the past 2 weeks now.
Unfortunately, today I was playing with a certain solitaire app while the battery is already in RED territory (a few % battery life remaining) while the Nexus 10 is connected to my PC via USB.
Since the USB charge is only 1 Ampere, I am aware that the charging is weaker (or slower) than draining since the screen is on and an app is being used. But my assumption is that the worse thing that could happen is that the tablet just goes dead and should be able to re-charge normally after.
However, my tablet has been connected with a 1-Amp (Galaxy S3 micro USB Charger) for the past 30 minutes and until now the charging logo is not popping. When I press the power button all I see is the Empty Battery Logo (Gray) with a Lightning Logo (black) with no animation (animation - emphasizing that the battery is charging) ... I am currently worried that the tablet went on a full-drain and is now one piece of useless sh*t.
Should I leave it alone for the next hour to see what happens? Because I sense that this is not normal, and by now the battery logo should be showing some animation that it is actually charging.... HEEEEEEEELLLLP
Btw I am using GS3 Charger because the Nexus 10 Charger (2.5Amp) uses a 110 voltage, however we only use 220 volts here at home (non US country).
Someone please advise... thanks!

Are you sure about that? Because my charger will take from 100V-240V.
Try to get an adapter. At least for my Lumia900 I need the original charger to wake it from the dead .

I am definitely sure it's only 110 Volts because I bought the Nexus 10 from the US and it says in the adapter "110"... while the other adapters from the Galaxy Note and S3 Chargers says "110-240" just like yours... so i wouldn't want to risk plugging the Nexus 10 charger adapter to a 220V outlet and risk busting the adapter.. or worse the Nexus 10 tablet.
Currently, I am asking someone to look for that damn forsaken 220-to-110V transformer which I used for the "Play Station 1" a decade ago... just imagine..... how long that was. I hope that transformer still works.... or I'll be damned. as of writing, the symptoms of my tablet still remains the same..... F*CK~!

HELL YEAH! Nexus 10 is now working. The issue is simply that the tablet over drained so drained that it has no power to display the batter logo animating to show it's charging.... Lesson Learned, Patience!
Moderators you may now close this thread.
To Samsung / Google: Please distribute your Pogo Chargers ASAP! Also, a question has been lingering in my head, What if you connect the Pogo Charger and USB Charger at the same time to your Nexus 10? What will happen?
Off topic but phone arena just said that the battery life on the Nexus 10 is way better than the battery life on the ipad 4. Weird, I feel that the Nexus 10 is about the same as my ipad 3 was, maybe slightly better. Twice as good though, definitely not mine. Does anyone have this crazy battery life version?

[Q] Car Charging Issues with Nexus 4

Past 2 days my Nexus 4 is not charging via Car Charger, i have original Samsung Charger, i also have USB port. i tried the USB cable i receievd with Nexus 4 from LG. No Luck, i can only charge my Nexus 4 at home.
I checked my usb lead and Samsung Car Charger to charge my Backup phone Galaxy mini, it works fine. Gaalaxy mini charges but not my Nexus 4.
I was thinking it might be an issue from CM Kernel. i recently installed CM10.1 nightly 13/3/2013 it was working fine before going custom rom. I have used every single custom roms in the past, i had no problem with charging anywhere before.
so i returned back to stock today and it is the same not charging.
I can only charge at home, but i use it alot and i need to keep it on charge in the car too.
Help pls thank you
Lower amp car chargers can't charge the Nexus4 faster than it discharges. I have a 2 Amp charger that works.
Having the screen on full brigthness while using GPS drains the phone really fast!
Does your Nexus4 not charge at all or does it charge slower than it drains?
It might be the kernel, I am using a Samsung galaxy S3 usb cable with a usb port car charger and I do not have any problems charging my N4. I am on Baked ROM and Franco kernel.
it has nothing to do with my car chager cuz it was working fine before.

i did not have any problems before using the CM
as soon as i flashed CM10.1, this problem started. i changed back to stock and still same problem
I'm also having problems with charging my Nexus 4 in the car. I have charged my N4 everyday going to work for the last 3 months. But last week it stopped working I'm also running CM 10.1 nightlies since day one if that has any importance.
The car charger works with my old Nexus One
I have bought another car charger that works(verified with N1), but doesn't charge my N4. Both chargers support 1 Ampere.
I can charge my N4 with AC-adapters
I can also charge the N4 connected to my computer using USB.
Any ideas?
bumping this. any solutions? same boat here
I have same isdue, but not all the time. I noticed my N4 stops charging with my car charger, the original charger and the wireless charger when it comes too hot. (after playing a game for example)
The only way I found to make it charges again is waiting for it to get cooler and then replug the charger. I think it might be an hardware security that stops the charge when the battery is too hot because when my N4 has a normal temperature it charges normaly evdn on my 1A car charger
BIG bump here!! My N4 stopped charging in my car randomly around when 4.3 came out....!! Any ideas what's up?!? Annoooying......!
Just in case I drive a 2010 Prius.... Worked fine since the N4 was first released.

[Q] Note 3 Battery charging Average Unit?

Hi,
I have a Note 3 N900 version. & I am on Love 89 2.2 Custom Rom
Thing is, My battery charge has suddenly gone down.
I mean it was working pretty well but since last night...it charges real slow.
& the Phone is not even a year old so m confused as to why this is happening.
I checked the charging Unit with Charging Report available on the Playstore & it shows as 300 for both Current & average.
May i know what should be the default charging unit.
Is this the cause from the Rom or the USB cable?
Thank you
Try charging it with an other charger and see if it still charge very slowly... (if you dont have another usb 3 cable, normal microUsb that all other android phones have, fit into the right part of the note3's usb 3 port)

Battery drain and long charges, please help!

So, I recently changed the battery on my N7 (Pure Nexus ROM 6.0.1 with ParrotMod) and started to notice that battery only lasts about 3 to 5 hours, and around 2 and a half with video playback.
Also, a charge from 10% to 100% takes around 12 hours to complete and charges very little or nothing at all when the tablet is powered off.
I thought that the charger was causing the problem (I was using a Galaxy S4 mini charger) but even with the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge charger (which supposedly has the same input and output as the N7 one's) I got the same results. I also read that the charging port might be misplaced, but that didn't seem to be the case either...
What's happening? HELP!
It 's probably a wrong charger. Use 10w (5v 2amp) one. Generic one can be bought at eBay for around $3. I have same setup on N7 - PN with Parrot Mod, full charge 2-3 hrs at the most

First off, use a genuine charger that comes with the device. If problem still persists, it could be the defective charging port that caused the problem. Try changing one by yourself or by having it replaced.
I have had the same problem. I bought my nexus second hand...and the guy said that the battery was broke but it run... So I have checked everything I have installed several roms and bought another battery but same problem... Then I have checked the USB and on the connection to the flat cable is a black thing to attemp the cable to the USB thing. So I closed the thing and it runs. Now battery loads fast again. Maybe the guy before me replaced the USB and missed to check the flatcable connection...

Observations on charger port burn out problems

I have read from various sources about the Leeco 727 dying a premature death due to burn out of the charger port. Some theories attribute it to bad Leeco supplied charging adapter or cable or faulty motherboard.
I tried a bunch of different wall adapters and cables to see if I could make some sense of it. What I noticed is that only with the Leeco supplied unit and an Anker dual port unit do I get any semblance of fast charging. There is no indicator on screen. I can only go by time observation.
Charging with other fast charge adapters seem to charge at a slower pace at 5 volt. From what I can see using a USB port tester is that when something charges at fast charge, it charges at 9 volt. I used a Samsung adapter and one from an orbic wonder which are definitely fast charge capable. They charge my old Motorola G4 at "turbo power" and a Note 4 at "fast charge".
I bought a unit from Allmaybe that has visual lcd of power consumption and it clocked down to a lower voltage after tripping the overpower indicator.
Maybe we need to throw away the Leeco wall adapter. It's possible that either it or the phone is drawing too much electricity for the port to handle.

A device like yhis Xdragon USB voltmeter might be helpful in debugging issues with charging.
Right now I am connected to a Samsung adaptive fast charger that can pull 9 volts but currently just pulling in 4.78 volts and about 700 mAh. At that rate will take about 5 to 6 hours to fully charge the 4200 mAh battery in the Leeco

The charger is fine, it was built according to qualcomm specs: https://www.qualcomm.com/media/documents/files/quick-charge-device-list.pdf
The Issue is that alot of phones were sent out with bad cables.
I don't think that it's just the cable.
I have been seeing hard shut downs while charging at night. It's not consistent so I am just going slow I suspect that the phone is shutting off to prevent overcharging the battery.
I have 2 x727 with asop extended 8.1 and blackscreen kernel 4.9 installed
I replaced the original LeEco USB C cable with a genuine Samsung USB C cable per the recommendation of other threads. "no change still shut down while charging overnight"
I suspect that it is a kernel battery issue so I backed up in twrp and I installed the regular version 4.9 of the blackscreen kernel. "no change the phone is still shutdown occasionally while charging overnight on a original leeco charger with a Samsung USB C cable"
So now I am trying both a Samsung charger and Samsung cable. I should revert back to the twrp kernel backup but blackscreen kernel is just too awesome!
The Samsung charger only outputs at 5.3V @ 2.0A
The LeEco charger outputs at 3.6v to 8v @ 3.0A or 12v @ 2.0A
I'm pretty sure that the problem is a software issue with the quick charge 3.0 voltage controls in the rom itself but I haven't gotten a log of the shutdown yet to confirm that because I haven't rooted the phone. The phone was getting uncomfortably warm when charging.
I'm betting that with the Samsung Oem quick charge 2.0 charger the phone will work properly without shutting down overnight.
I'll update this post with my results.

Have you tried simply reflashing the correct firmware?
I too have a X727 and had similar issues in the past while using a firmware designed for the X720, and alot of of Rom's come with the X720 firmware.
Try flashing the kernel from my Google Drive link below and see if that helps.
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1qAJrM8bIfI190W9w2gKR97xVhA-2lrZt
Meh 2 phones same software with different results.
I still don't really know why it was shutting off while charging overnight.
But the problem hasn't repeated itself since I stopped using one of the LeEco chargers. So at the moment I am blaming it on a bad charger base or wonky phone charging circuit, not the cable.
I was thinking my problem was software but I had already changed my roms Kernel to the appropriate blackscreen kernel from the roms stock kernel and the problem persisted on her phone until I stopped using the one included LeEco charger on my wife's phone, it's charging fine on the Samsung 2.0 quick charger, and mines charging without issues on the second LeEco 3.0 quick charger.
Unfortunately I can't just wipe her phone without causing her problems because she is always on her phone.
Is the problem hardware related in her phone is my current question? Or am I tracking a bug in the software.
If the problem is that charger base it should have zero effect if I put her phone on the 3.0 charger that I am using. If it is her phones charging hardware that test could permanently brick the phone Fry the charge port or battery ect...
So I am going to order another x727 if I can find another new one on ebay apparently most of the new US inventory is gone and the price is being gouged on the last of the new ones. :crying:
That way I will have a backup so I can do that test and have a phone to use for development. That's why I bought this phone in the first place.
I'm pretty sure that the one charger base is the whole problem but I can't afford to test that theory yet.

You can buy usb voltage testers on Amazon.
If you happen to have a bad charging block just toss it, and buy a universally compatible Qualcomm Quick Charger. Such as this one: https://www.amazon.com/Charge-Anker-Charger-Compatible-PowerPort/dp/B016LO811S
Blitzwolf quickcharger and C cables. Bought 3 of each. All my charging issues disappeared when I bought them. Leeco supplied cable/charger are crap, why risk it?
FYI, I have experienced the condition where my charging stops randomly when using 2 different decent Samsung Travel model fast chargers. Stopped around 49% to 85%
Neither pulled in fast charging voltage-drawing a little under 5 volts and maybe 1100mah, as compared to 9 volts when connected to the Leeco charger.
Good point. Charger blocks are cheap phones aren't.
As addendum to this issue, after a year and half my charger port finally burned out. Probably abused the phone a bit and got some moisture in the port, maybe it was just a matter of time.
I was able to resurrect the phone though. The actual replacement board is available on eBay for $5-10 with tools. Hardest part was using a heat gun to remove the screen. There are guide on how to open up this unit.
One thing I will tell you I am that you don't need to remove the battery to get to the USB board.
Just another note, either hitting my phone with the heat gun or mucking around with the battery unnecessarily caused the battery to start to malfunction. Battery would discharge quickly and phone would shut off randomly. I replaced the battery with some cheap replacement from China, cost about $16.
Also replaced the screen because I tore the ribbon cable by accident. The screen cost about $13. Definitely cheaper than an iPhone replacement!
