One may say it's a little early but I had started a petiton to Samsung to provide an update to our Galaxy Tab, either to JB or to ICS but with proper user experience and by that I mean better battery life, better reception and fixing every bug that the recent update brought. Here's the petition text:
" As we all know, Samsung didn't include the Galaxy Tab in it's Jellybean update roadmap. I think that's quite unfair, because there are a lot of slower devices, even by Samsung, that got their update (and have similar market age). Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 had it's market debut on may 2011, so it's a 1,5 year device. In mobile world one would say it's old, but independent developers shown that it's capable of doing a lot of things that newer devices are capable of. One of such features is the ability to run Android Jellybean (4.1). Now we all know that it's easy to argue that Android Jellybean with Touchwiz UX won't give a proper user experience (it won't be as fast as it should be). I'd ask, why not let the user choose? As far as I know, the American version of Galaxy Tab 10.1 came without TouchWiz preinstalled, and no one complained (the update with TW was given but that's not the case here). Now part of this petition is to try to make Samsung develop an update for our Tab with newer version of Android BUT I know it is hardly possible (mainly because of money involved - they prefer to sell a newer model). So I'm also asking Samsung to fix that crappy update they had given (the ICS one). I would like them to know that I'm NOT GETTING PROPER USER EXPERIENCE (crappy battery life, low wifi & 3G signal, etc.) with that update and it's not because of old hardware and such. It's because they didn't work hard enough. I would be happy if you sign the petition, even if you don't own the Galaxy Tab 10.1 because it is important for the community. Thank you!"
And here's the link to the petition:
http://www.change.org/petitions/samsung-mobile-update-the-samsung-galaxy-tab-10-1-4
Please read the petition and sign it if you agree. Also please spread the word, the more the better. Also if someone knows an email to some Samsung decision maker somewhere in Samsung's HQ in Seoul, please provide it here so I can add it in the petition.
Also please leave the topic clean of OT.
Thank You!

You joined XDA in 2007, then you must have known that this is the "Android Development" box. There's no development in this, posting this in the General Forums maybe more appropriate.

They're already pushing updates faster than they ever have, their update process is pretty easy to follow if you put in the time and effort to research it a little. Unlike a lot of brands they put a large emphasis on optimisation which means that things run a lot smoother, note the limited number of bugs in the 4.3 software. Yet again another spam thread about where's my update, the long and short of it is you have to be patient and wait like the rest of us.
wright_ac is correct about this. Their updates has been more faster than the originally before. Even faster than optimization than the Samsung updates which tells you something already. I've been largely patient with the updates and with the newest update, I've been noting but impress with optimization and additional little UI changes which does have it quirks of wondering why they haven't done that in the first place haha. The only glimpse I have is to replace the vibration module which have been ordered. DIY here I come haha.

Since when did a petition ever force any person or any company to do anything?
All it is likely to do is telegraph the impatience of the self obsessed.
7 updates, including 2 upgrades to new versions of Android in less than a year aren't enough for you?
4.1.2
350 -> 434 -> 253 -> 307
Then -
4.2.2
423 -> 244 -> 67
Then -
4.3
569
How fast do you expect Sony to release updates if that isn't enough for you?
My previous device was a LG P990. It received 2 updates in the 2 years that I had it. Both were bug ridden messes that shouldn't have even been betas, never mind released.
So think yourself lucky with what you get from Sony.

lol... you should buy a nexus or GPE phone if you want the latest greatest android version instantly, if you want Sony's refined software, we need to give Sony time to work on it.

Sony firmware is just as buggy and comes with as many issues as updates from other manufacturers so your optimization argument is just bull.
The truth is flagship for flagship, Sony is much later than its competitors as far as updates go.

You heard it here, Sony. Don't bother fixing any bugs or bother with any quality assurance. Get those updates out the door now!
Seriously, it's plain from your post history that you have no idea what it takes to prepare, test and release an update, especially an upgrade to a new version of Android. Just stop commenting altogether until you do. Or even better go and complain on Sony's support forum like you've been told to many times in the past.
This is a development forum, primarily for people to share work they have produced and for similarly interested people to share knowledge and to learn, not a place for people with no clue to vent about things that nobody here has any control over.

Right, let's look at it this way is there any major bug in the 4.3 Rom that is detrimental to performance/usability, not really. If you look at how smooth 4.3 runs compared to 4.2.2 you'll see what I mean, if it's "bull" as you so call it then move to another manufacturer like HTC or Samsung. If people looked at what went into it all and saw the amount of work it takes you'd all stop complaining less.
I think more than 50% of the people forget that SONY always more than 3 phones support with updates.
How kingvortex said, there is a lot of time and management needed to realese a update or upgrade.
Do not forget this guys! That is really hard work for SONY.

When did the s4 and HTC one get 4.3? Months ahead of Sony that's when.

Ok some question.
What visible changes has htc made in the 4.3 update?
-None
What new great things were contained in the new update?
-Almost none
I've seen bloatwiz and sense updates and wasn't impressed at all.

Do not forget, not every human buys every year a new phone. What I wanna say: HTC and Samsung does not give that update support as SONY. They update more or less the flagship and let the other phones waste after a year.
Also the most of people want a stable and smooth ROM. If SONY would release Android 4.4 after 1 week, I do not think that all would be stable.
And I prefer 1 good update than one which is not finished and I have to wait again for an update.
Here it doesn't matter if we are fanboys or not. That's fact yes, but what is better? 3 updates/phone in a year or 15 updates/phone in 2-3 years and be more or less up 2 date for long time?. If you don't like that, buy next time an other phone or unlock your bootloader and flash custom ROMs or buy a GPE.
Tommy-Geenexus said it, SONY give us also much of (new) features. They gave us the whole UI from the new Z1 with the 4.3 update.. That isn't of course. And also do not forget, SONY have to "change" all from "Android design" in to the "SONY design", that needs a lot of time.
I like the update policy because I know, every time when I read SONY will give us a new update, there will be a lot of new changes that can make me happy.
But however. Everyone should have their own opinion, they should just be realistic.

Looking at your post history, you seem to have a long history of buying Sony phones and coming here to whine about every little thing.
Yet you still keep on buying Sony phones.
Why is this exactly? You would have thought anyone that seems to dislike a manufacturers practices so much would have moved on by now.
You like to throw the word fanboy around a lot, when people are simply disagreeing with what you say. This just looks like you defending you irrational hatred of Sony. I mean, you don't post here for months at a time and only pop up when updates are released to whine and moan in every slightly related thread. Sell your phone and move on if it causes you to do that!

Stop talking trash. I prefer Sony way of updating, it takes time but SURELY get its job done. The changes in UI and optimization speaks the truth.
Mind you, currently I have samsung note 3, samsung update (ex: MK7) was trash. Battery drain was a huge let-down.
How do you think the software update support from Sony for this model will be like?
I personally hope that it'll get the same treatment as Z1 (prioritised updates during its 1st year...?), but I kind of have a feeling that it's going to be overlooked. I guess it'll depend on the sales too...?

be sure that sony will support this phone for at least two years.
this is sony policy so far for flagships.
Sony Xperia S & Ion were flagships of 2012 and they support it until nowadays.

Xperia Ion - released June 2012. Last updated by Sony: June 2013 (twelve months later). Plus the last version released was 4.1.2 Jelly Bean (which was released by Google in October 2012). So really it only got four months of support.
Xperia S - released February 2012. Last updated by Sony: August 2013 (18 months later). However again, the last version released was 4.1.2 which was released by Google in October 2012, so really 8 months of support.
At most we can expect to see KitKat and the next android version to come to our Xperia Z1Cs. Beyond that we won't get support. But this is XDA, we don't need official updates anyway :victory:

Seems like Sony is getting better and faster with updates nowadays (That was 2012 now is 2014). Look at T,V or Z for example.
Just like my favourite album from Calvin Harris : "18 Months"

Yes, of course. I don't know about March but KitKat will surely come. And beyond KitKat updates will probably come as well. No worries there, really.
I think that the manufacturers should support the devices they sell but not in they way that some people believe they should. I think they should only provide software updates to fix bugs and improve performance. I do not believe that they should offer updates to the next version of android. It takes a lot of resources and money to adapt android x.x with Sony interface and then make it work on a dozen different devices. Resources that could be put towards a better experience on newer devices. I feel that if I pay for a device with android 4.3, 4.3 is what I paid for. Not 4.3+4.4+4.5 . On the flip side I believe that when a new version of android is made available that manufacturers not be allowed to offer a device with an older version. That would take some effort from Google and the manufacturers but it would be great if all the phones that came out after Halloween already had KitKat. And let the hate commence.

Hardware now is at the point where a high-end phone should last a good 3 years or even indefinitely.. I mean.. do we need 8 cores and 4k screens? I would not want an environment where a producer is forced to spawn new hardware just because new software is available, I would like it to happen more organically than that.
While hardware arms-race is great at drastically improving performance in new technology, there should theoretically be a limit where hardware improvements may not outweigh the cost to the consumer, and it is at this point where software takes over. Processing power and screen resolution is at a point where anything more is redundant. At least I think that software is where the future is at. I'd take a good and useful feature, instead of imperceivable pixel-density or more CPU power.
Keep in mind I'm not saying screen resolution and cpu-core improvements are worth zero, I just think they may not be worth as much as Qualcomm is trying to make us believe. Battery performance on the other hand, gimmie -- though this is equal parts software and hardware. There are many hardware improvements that are infinitely more useful than a new android-version, unfortunately they are overlooked by the naive consumer that just want whatever the producers can most easily improve upon.
I feel that if I pay for a device with android 4.3, 4.3 is what I paid for.

Ha! You've got to be kidding, you can not possibly defend this statement? When you pay 500$ for a phone, you'd rather have Sony forget all about you and move on the next phone? A new android major-version update can be just as impressive and fun as new hardware, and if you don't want it, don't install it? I don't count bug-fixing, included in the price of a new phone, should be the promise of a bug-free and functional device.

I hope this doesn't come off as my being totally USA-centric, but the biggest worry I have in this regard is the lack of U.S. sales, and hence, support. How much of a flagship device can it be without including the largest (counting the EU as separate markets) market? I'm looking hopefully to MWC for some clue otherwise, but not very confident.

Because Sony has always been a domestic brand (like many Japanese companies) but also with a large European arm for the majority of their products. Anything successful in both these markets will eventually find its way further afield.
Given their current financial state, you can hardly blame them for not wanting to take risks.
And let's not forget the US market for the average consumer is totally inaccessible with only one SKU per colour.

What bothers me the most, is almost all the flagships (Samsung, LG, Nexus, HTC,...) got the update expect Sony's
Link in french sorry ?

What do you want
A firmware made of hardwork
Or rushed work
Either way sony has been working harder than they ever have on Lolipop for Xperias
It would have been nice if they were at the same level as their opponents, that's all what I'm saying

True but Quality like this may be worth waiting for.
No other brands do/can do what sony does
Its such a simple thing though.
Hope that they will release it soon
It is yet February and some of ya'll will the asap Lollipop, just unbelievable, have patients buddies, Sony will bring it out, they will made it perfect and no rushed work like Samsung/LG etc that ya'll have alot bugs then and it is also useless ythat some of ya'll still compare Sony with any other (rushing) company... LOL !

If Sony sells its mobile division, I'd probably by a nexus
I'll take Samsung for my example because I know them.
Samsung will rush their update, they make sure everything works as it should, but the software is not optimized, My S3 would always lag really badly when I updated, it could take 5 seconds for the app draw to load, and they fill it with bloat and update their own apps which also lag really badly. I would prefer to wait another month as see a quality product rather than relive my Samsung nightmare.

Free phones ftw.
They should take their time. No need to hurry. Quality phone requires quality update

Sony is doing better now
Slower updates
Better updates
I dont care if it takes longer because its buggless
167 is a prime example.
Its coming soon, be patient!
To be honest it's this month and whenever they start to roll out the update, it'll be there on multiple servers unlike Samsung or HTC.
Other OEMs haven't started rolling it out completely and Only problem with Sony is that I am afraid they'll update mid-range phones to lollipop.
Plus Selling their mobile division won't happen I guess. They just need to stop producing more phones and just stick to a plan with less devices with more futuristic updates with some cool ads. Unlike boring or stupid ones. and they will rise from this nightmare and will continue to amaze us but I really hope that they'll release Camera features with the next lollipop update

I understand where you're coming from but it's been a Perennial issue with Sony. It's a very competitive industry and lagging behind others does Sony no good. There will always be the expected responses from Sony fans like better to wait for an update which is bug free than one rushed and bug ridden .
Truth is, there has never been an update from Sony that's been bug free and there probably never will be as is the case with all manufacturers.
The good news is they're at least closing the gap. Once upon a time they were many months behind. It's unfortunate because the Sony ui is one of the closest to stock so you should expect it to be one of the earliest.
Software support has never been one of their highest priorities but the new CEO did say they wanted to improve in this respect.
Let's hope so eh!

167 took ages because Sony wanted to showcase the software on the z3 range. That was down to strategy and not software optimisation. The 6 month madness was to blame for the delay in getting 4.4.4 to the z2. Nothing else!

Notice that I've been loyal to Sony since my first phone (w810) and so and so. And I would love to stick with Sony to the very last end but they should make some changes.
I don't know if its me, but the only bug I did have was with the Z when running 4.3: an app couldn't sync with the server, also the widgets stopped working from time to time.
That's all I can remember from the w810, w995, x2, x10, J, S, Z and Z2 bugs
I'm quoting a user who contacted Honor UK asking about the EMUI 5.1 update
johnhux7 said:
I have been taking to Honor UK on hangouts.
Honor has no plans to release EMUI 5.1 at the MO.
They also said about the promice of updates :
"The "promise" was a Honor US thing. No European countries were part of that."
They also said :
"The Honor 8 is due to get an update soon. As to what's in that again no info."
These are exact copies of what they said.
Will post more when they say more
John
More quotes
"We are committed to updates, we just don't want to be caught out by publishing press releases with timescales in."
"The whole deal with XDA again was a US, neither Honor US or XDA consulted us before announcing the relationship."

I hope that this thread will be noticed by the Huawei/Honor community managers, and that they'll take full responsibility for all the false claims and misleading motto about supporting the Dev community (that includes releasing proper source code) + 2 years updates + XDA partnership.
We need an explanation.
A note to the forum moderators: Please do not remove this thread or censor it as it's our sole way to be noticed by Honor team.
It would be great to have some reply from @Honor UK (Verified), @HonorUSA or @Rox_Honor, but I don't think we will be that lucky...

It's exactly why I posted the messages that i did so people know exactly what's going on.
Us taking about our selfs doesn't come up with facts and that's what we need FACTS.
I will keep messaging them and will keep posting what is said.

Yepp, disappointing. My last Honor personally, will move to another brand.
I'm a big fan of the Honor/Huawei camera, its the best out of all brands I've used including Apple, but they need to improve the updates and release the kernel source. For a moment I was close to selling the Honor 8 and getting a OnePlus for a better software experience, but I managed to go jump through hoops to manually update the phone.
I paid $280 for my Honor 8. I have been nothing but happy with it. If you don't like it, move on to something else honestly.

If you got your phone for a good price and you're happy with it, it's good for you. This thread exposes some facts and its aim is to get a "minimal" support from Huawei. So, maybe we'll move to something else 'honestly' in a near future. But many users can't afford it
Don't get it. People are calling some underpaid support guy on the customer level, mostly not really tech avid guys and quite uninformed and than believe what they're saying? Honestly?
There is only one department for outside communication. And you never talk to them. Relax and don't believe what so [email protected] guy is saying you, as they often get informations even later than the customers.

I know what you mean. Though, I like my honor 8 phone but their support is by far the worst . I ask questions in their community forum site and hardly ever get any responds . And, I even wait a few days for an answer, still nothing . To me that's not acceptable . It would be different if I were asking my question here on a non Honor website but my questions are direct to them, unacceptable PERIOD

Lol it's the same even with supposed top brands like Samsung your calling a call center usually from another country that has only been trained to tell you how factory reset your phone from settings or from a button combo. If that doesn't solve it you are usually directed to send your phone back for warranty if it is under warranty or pay to fix your phone. So it's not just honor brand.
Yeah, I like the hardware especially at the price but software support is too poor for me to ever consider Honor again. Too many bugs and too few fixes.
It's the same on every single brand. My last was LG V10. A very pricy device. But no updates, not even security updates in time. I was expecting this for a 650€ device. On the H8 I got Nougat right after I booted it. And it was only 360€. Quite good. I'm disappointed by the closed source policy though. They promised more and that's why i didn't get the bq devices with some kind of Cyanogen on it. Still not sure if it was a wise decision.

I had to ask Honor UK to release the source code for the kernel more forcefully than i'd like to ask any company. I guess the only way for the community to get something out of Honor is to ask them many times.

That maybe so . I wouldn't need another phone for a few years . When that day does come I will make sure beforehand which company provides a good phone and support, one thing is for sure it wouldn't be Huawei
I want Security updates once a month.
B360 has the patches from three and a half months ago.
That's...crap, honestly.
I'm not asking for shiny new features and the latest version of Android. Those would be great, but EMUI 5.1's not horribly out of date. Security fixes so my data's not stolen or device ****ed up are kind of important.
