[Q] Making a Nandroid backup directly to PC - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi People of XDA,
Is there any way for me to directly make a Nandroid backup to a PC?
Because my phone has no space left for a full Nandroid backup and I want to try some custom ROMs.
Thanks in advance.

You might be better off mounting your storage in recovery to the USB interface and moving all the backups off to return them as needed.
Alternatively, move all but one for on the go repairs.

Wait, I do what? Can you explain a little better? I mount my storage on a PC you mean?

What recover do you use? You should be able to mount your storage to your PC and pull your old backups off for preservation.

[Q] Access CWM nandroid backups on PC.

I made a backup with CWM and I want to access it on my computer to back it up. However, I can't find it either on the phone itself or the PC. I've enabled hidden files to show and that didn't make a difference. I have no nandroid or clockworkmod folders on the phone either :/
I tried to mount the "sdcard" in CWM (since on my previous phone that was the only way to view the backup files) but that didn't work either. Mounting through CWM doesn't seem to work, is there a way to do that?
How do I access the backup and how do I mount through CWM.
Thank you!
EDIT: Use a root explorer, go to mnt/shell/emulated/clockworkmod/ and there it is.
Thanks, I've been trying to figure this out forever...
i usually do data/media/clockworkmod/backup and there is it

[Q] Nandroid Backup like CWM or TWRP directly to PC

Hi!
From what I have read it is already possible to do so. ADB offers some commands to backup your whole internal disk directly to PC. Also there is a way to do so via fastboot. Thats both very nice but I would like to go one step further. I put many trust in backups like cwm or twrp. currently I'm using TWRP on my N4. The tools works just fine!!
BUT. I have around 13.8 GB of capacity overall! One backup made by TWRP takes about 1.5 GB. But thats only because the compression works this well. To get it the backup process started I need to free about 2.8 GB. Thats over 30% of my storage. Another point is that to have a proper backup I have to copy the backup to another storage eg my PC. So I was thinking:
Why can't we made this superb backups (compatible to CWM and TWRP) directly to PC?
Please understand this thread as a question where I can find this app that will do this for me or whom I will have to pay for it to make it a reality!
you can do a full Backup with this tool:

If you have a microOTG cable and an SD key/reader. TWRP supports reading storage from a "usb-otg" source. If I can remember you need to turn that option on in the TWRP file mananger settings. It was not too hard to find.
Try copying the TWRP backup from the PC to the SD. Then attaching the microOTG cable, SD key/reader to the N10. Boot into TWRP recovery and do a restore from the "usb-otg" directory. Scroll down to the bottom of the directory list and you should see "usb-otg". Select it and select your backup.
Under mounts and storage there should be a Mount SD card and you can connect you tablet to the computer Mount it and copy them over

hey guys,
i have a very serious problem and im already searching the internet for a solution since hours.
i had to make a factory reset and lost all my fpse savedata.i was playing many hours of FF8(70+) and these savegames are really important for me.
i made a nandroid backup which is broken and restored the fpse app with titanium backup with no luck.
does anyone know a file recovery program which works with the s4s mtp protocol?
most recovery programs on windows don´t recognize the s4s storage
would be very thankful for any help

What do you mean by broken nandroid? If possible, try to view the nandroid backup and manually extract the savedata. This can be done by using Nandroid manager.
If you want to get back your data forensically, it would be very troublesome. I know as I'm currently studying digital forensic for my course. You might also not be able to recover the files if the data had been overwritten.
Tried hexamob bit it doesn't work with the internal storage,my problem with my nandroid backup is that i can't restore it using CWM.
Nandroid manager sounds good but i don't think that my savefiles are included cause they are stored on sdcard/.fpse im not sure but i guess the nandroid backup doesn't include the internal sdcard?

Depending on what recovery you used and how you did your nandroid backup.
If you did a custom/advanced backup and selected specific partition to backup, there's a high chances that you might not have backed up internal sdcard partition.
If you chose the 'backup to external sdcard' option, there's probably a high chance that internal sdcard is backup too.
You should really try out the Nandroid Manager to see if your backup has internal sdcard partition.

Did you figure it out? I have same problem accept I want to undelete pictures from internal memory..
+1 Nandroid Manager app
I was surprised with the Nandroid manager app - while it didnt work for me at first, i did get an update through and then it was fine. Currently, however, it wont restore my nandroid, but it might be worth giving it a try as previously mentioned

[SOLVED] How can I make a backup of the data partition on my computer?

What I want to do is I want to be able to either copy the userdata partition to my computer or do a file level copy of everything in /data to a folder on my computer. I've already rooted my phone, so preferably I'd be able to make the root file system available over usb. Does anyone know how I'd be able to do something like this? I know I could plug in a usb device to my phone and probably copy /data to it, but that wouldn't be my preferred method. Let me know if I missed any methods that I could use.
I want to mention that I'm into doing this because recently my phone died and I had to send it out to have some of the data recovered and I don't want to have to spend that kind of money if I can frequently make full backups myself.
EDIT: I found a solution but I'm leaving this up in case anyone else wants to know how to do it.
I'm using FTPDroid to run an ftp server on my phone which I'm then mounting on my computer and then using rsync to backup the data. I'd recommend paying the $1.99 for SSL/TLS support for FTPDroid and setting up a dynamic dns for your phone to allow for automation of backups.
Just install TWRP custom recovery and do a full backup. You can transfer or copy the backup to your computer if you wish. If your storage is full you can backup straight to SD card or computer I believe.

The only problem with that is that I don't have an SD card slot on my phone for an sdcard.
