[Q] SM-G900H no LTE option - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'm new on here so I'm not sure if anyone can help. I have looked around other threads but have not found the solution for this specific model. I purchased the Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900H through Amazon.co.uk last year assuming this would support 4G. However, I'm now just finding out that this might not be the case. As shown in the screenshot below, I don't have the LTE option in the Network Mode menu. I called my provider Three.co.uk and they said to do a factory reset (which I did) and then they said to update to Android 5.0 (which I did) but still no luck.
I prefer not to root the device and break the warranty but I will if there is no choice. I have also attached a screenshot with the details of the build number / kernel etc.
Please bear in mind that I am not very experienced at this so please explain what I have to do in plain English.........
Thanks so much!!!!!!!

@jeroenmw g900H doesnt support lte/4g

I have SM-G900H model and it doesn't have 4G LTE.
You can check its specifications online.
Just google model name!

So even rooting the device will not work?

No, it 'll not work even after rooting...
Because its not in hardware!
Get SM-G900F model if u want to use 4G/LTE

The SM-G900H is the variant of Samsung Galaxy S5 that is built using the in-house eXynos Octocore system chip. This variant does not have hardware support for 4G LTE networking.
For 4G LTE support you need one if the Galaxy S5 variants based on the Qualcomm Quad core system chip. Only the Qualcomm-based handsets have hardware support for 4G LTE.
If you have the option to return your phone for a refund I suggest you do that and get one of the other variants (preferably the SM-G900F for the UK). One of those should work with your carrier's LTE support.

How to use 4g in Galaxy S5 sm g900h??? Please help me

I am with a SM-G900H, and it have a 4G sign on the back cover, how it not have 4g ?

[Q] LTE support

Hi,
Can anyone confirm if Galaxy Note already have LTE for India Market ? Currently LTE support is not available, but is expected to arrive soon around end of Dec 2011/Jan 2012.
Hence better to buy Galaxy Note with LTE.
LTE ?
Hi I just bought a Galaxy Note in Saudi, where they have LTE, but I don't know how to check if the phone have LTE, I found some things in the settings, but it fails when I click it. but maybe I need a 4G LTE sim card...
does any one know haw to check if the phone Has LTE ?

Korean Version Compatibility

Hey I have an opportunity to grab a Korean S4 (SHV-E300K/S). I am wondering if there will be any issues to using this phone in HK? The LTE bands appear to be compatible. I was wondering if the phone will be locked or if there is something that just won't work? I've never been to Korea so I don't know how phones are sold there so any insight will be appreciated.
Thanks in Advance!
Did some digging around and apparently KT telecom, (1 of the 2 large operators in South Korea) did not lock the previous release of the S3.
Also including the article which mentions the LTE bands just in case anyone's interested.
http://www.sammobile.com/2013/04/02/galaxy-s4s-korean-variant-shv-e300sk-to-feature-exynos-5-octa-clocked-at-1-8ghz-confirmed-by-fcc/
Still hoping to get some input before pulling the trigger. Thanks
I'm very interested in this, and I've been trying to do some research. I have a best friend who's brother lives in Korea and works at Samsung, and she told me that if I wanted the Korean version, he'd do his best to ship one to my specifications.
Long story short, I want the Exynos + LTE, but the information online is few and in between.

Well if you can find out anything from that person who works for Samsung that would be much appreciated. I'm willing to pull the trigger if:
a) they sell phones outright off contract in Korea,
b) the phone is carrier unlocked, and
c) I can set English menus.
I am willing to Gamble with the LTE bands and the software compatibility quirks that I may experience.
Perhaps someone from Korea can shed some light?
Thanks.

To answer your questions,
Phones are available in English menu and you only need to worry about the LTE bands as they are not carrier locked in Korea. You might need to set some settings to work in your country and chances should be high as I heard the Octa supports 20 bands of LTE.
I'm not sure what you meant by outright but you can walk into any shop and buy it if that's what you meant. Alternatively, if you know anyone in Korea they should be able to get it for you but not in the next few days because right now it seems that it's all on contract until stock are more abundant.

It would be really cool if the Korean GS4 could work with USA LTE. But the price~! Right now, it's being sold for around $1,100 USD~!
What's special about Korean models? Don't other countries have octa too?

Okay, so I'm very confused. I too have the opportunity to grab a Korean version, but instead of the OP, I reside in the US, would I run into ANY problems if I got this version? LTE I understand might possibly work/might not, but is there anything else to be concerned with?
All galaxy korean version has following problems.
1. All operator too many customizing ==> it will cause unstable, because all known that they request too many modify frameworks also.
2. Too many have bloat apps.(operator apps, avg 10 + apps exist, some apps are not support uninstall, yeah rooting will delete that apps, but it make an another error)
3. UMTS band are only 1900/2100 (official), previous galaxy have only UMTS 2100 (SKT/KT model only, LGU+ model using CDMA 1800(that frequncy only exist in korea over the world)
4. LTE band are only 850/1800. (SKT 850/1800 , KT 1800 / LG U+ 850)
5. Maybe Firmare not compatible with Global version (I930X / N710X )
6. you may not use USSD code (korean all operator doesn't support USSD code, so korean localizing version remove USSD function)
I lived in korea, but i don't use our korean galaxy models. This time I also ordered galaxy s4 on UK. Because UK model is always Europe open model and it has nearly Samsung reference model. (Doesn't have or 1~2 bloat app exist)
i'm very hate too many localizing. it will always phone make unstable.
Pulverizer, thank you for the info! I think I'll be going for the i9500 now.
Thank You to all who took the time to reply!
I'm likely going to get a local machine now to reduce the need to tinker.
This is also a very informative link from an shv-e300 user for any of those who are still fence sitters! Very good information is given at the bottom of page 3!

This information will keep me to in the US/UK LTE version.

WIND mobile (Canada) Galaxy S4 compatibility

Hello everyone,
I am really confused about different versions of Galaxy S4 and their compatibility with Wind mobile in Canada.
As far as I know, there are i9500, i9505 and i377 variants.
I was looking forward to buy the i9505 model but I'm not sure if it is compatible with Wind mobile network. (Right now I am outside of Canada for a while so getting a phone in a duty free shop makes sense.)
Does anyone know if i377 or any other variants of Galaxy S4 is compatible with Wind mobile?
If it matters, right now I have a T999V (galaxy S3) which works fine with Wind's network.
Thanks in advance

The GT-i9500 uses the exynos octa core cpu and isn't available in North America because it doesn't support LTE here.
The GT-i9505 is the international S4 that uses the qualcomm quadcore cpu which is marketed in the USA as i377 (at&t) and i377m (bell/rogers/telus) in Canada. These 2 variants don't support AWS bands out of the box, but users have shown a way to enable that on these phones.
There is also another variant of the i9505 marketed as SGH-M919 for T-Mobile in USA and SGH-M919V for Wind/Videotron in Canada. These support AWS bands out of the box and work perfectly well on all North American providers such as At&t, Rogers, Bell, Virgin Mobile, T-Mobile, etc.
Hope this helps your dilemma!

Thank you for your elaboration.
In other words, if I went and bought an SGS 4 with model number i9505, it wouldn't work on -say- Wind mobile out of the box? Should I strictly go for M919? Or are they all the same i9505 hardware only different radios? This "radio": are we referring to the baseband firmware or the actual circuitry inside the phone itself?
Sorry for asking again but I'm trying to clear up the confusion.
Thank you very much in advance

1) All GT-i9505 variants have the same hardware which includes the radio chip, cpu, ram etc.
2) The software part (modem) that controls the radio module is different in the variants which is why some of the users were able to 'activate' AWS band support on the At&t/Rogers/Bell S4 by flashing the appropriate modem/rom.
3) I believe if you purchase the GT-i9505 it will still work on Wind Mobile and the other carriers. But keep in mind that you may or may not be able to connect to LTE or lose reception in some areas where they only run the network on a respective band.
This is where you have to do your homework. Go to Wind Mobile's website and see what bands they use & then cross reference them with the GT-i9505 supported bands.
After you do that yourself and are fairly confident that the phone should work. I'd suggest that you call up Wind mobile and ask them to ensure if that model will work on Wind completely. Just a heads up, you may not get the most knowledgeable tech on your first try...so you may have to try again.
If you just really want that model from the duty free, just get it! I'm sure one of the more advanced users here will be able to point out what needs to be tweaked for it run flawlessly on whatever network.

bought the GT i9500
I bought the GT i9500 galaxy s4 when I was on vacation outside Canada.
Now I'm back here and cannot connect to wind network.. It always goes on roaming :crying:
Please someone let me know what to do with my phone. Can I sell it to someone using Rogers/Bell/Telus? as my friend has a rogers sim card and its working on my phone
Also would be thankful if someone could tell me what could I do to make wind work on my phone.
I had the simcard cut by the phoneseller when I bought it so I could use it when I come back here. Could that be the problem? I mean, would it work if I bought a new small sim card from Wind?
No it won't work.I
I got a phone UK from 3 network and it didn't work and after lots of research I found that it is missing the AWS mode. Mine also works with Rogers, Telus and Bell but not Wind mobile. The store just cut my cimcar for $5 and did not work.
I was reading that there is a ROM or firmware that should be updated.
good luck and let me know if you fixed it.
Samsung Galaxy S4 on Wind Mobile
Were you able to get this working on WIND Mobile? I am in the same predicament, and need to get this working but it just keeps roaming. Wonder if there is a ROM that can be flashed to support the AWS frequency for WIND.

[Q] Can't turn on LTE?

Hi all,
I have the s5 unlocked version in NY, NY which according to the box supports LTE (I know this seems obvious, but still). However, I popped my sim in and I can't figure out how to enable LTE. I've gone into mobile network settings (photo attached) and I also downloaded LTE toggles, but the just force close.
Any ideas?
[Edited: just added photos of the phone so we can skip the whole 'you don't have the phone' thing. I need some honest help here. Thanks!]
[Edited: The phone uid codes don't work, I get an error, and also the APN settings are correct (fast.t-mobile.com).]
[Edit: Turns out this might be solved. For whatever reason, the version of this galaxy s5 is the SM-G900H model, which apparently does not support LTE... why they would sell a phone that says "for sure in north america only" that is GSM only is beyond me.
Can anyone confirm that this variant does not support LTE?
The SM-G900H is the Exynos version(?) and does not have LTE antennas, but you can check it by installing Antutu or something that shows hardware information.
The "American SIM only" is Samsung's region locking irregardless of the phone variant, if it gets sold in the US, it has to have that.
EDIT: okay, I'm a bit confused as some SM-G900H info mentions the Snapdragon SoC. Definitely install some benchmark apps or system tool info to check the hardware.

What does Antutu device info says? If Exynos 5422, it won't have LTE, if Snapdragon 800 / Krait 400, it should have. In any case you should contact the store where you bought it, and if no LTE you should go for refund.

You should return it if possible, if they ask why, say you live in US and nobody told you it doesn't have LTE.
You can only get LTE if you buy a carrier branded version of the S5. In my opinion that is ridiculous. But that is how it is. The versions at Best Buy and Samsung do not include North American LTE support. I believe the version you have would only support AT&T HSPA+ (3G). If used on T-Mobile, it would only support band 2 3G (1900) which may be very limited.
Related to exynos 5422
Is there any way to use LTE On Samsung galaxy S5 Exynos 5422?
Thanks I'm a little new in this field

[Q] SM-G900V - Enable wider LTE bandwidth

Hello,
I am very proud to be a part of the community now.
I bought few days ago an unblocked Samsung galaxy S5 SM-G900V in Best Buy Store.
Today and for some times I will be in France, using my phone with local service proivder. Unfortunately, this model cannot connect to the 4G / LTE network in France.
Local bandwith :
- 1600 mHz
- 2600 mHz
Samsung told me that the device can only connect to the following networks :
- 700 / 850 / 1700 / 1900 mHz
Indeed I would like to know if it is the components posing problems or just the configuration made by Samsung / Verizon to block the connection in foreign countries like France. If it is the case I can flash my device and modify the bandwith accordingly to French one ?
Also I understood that Verizon device is not allowing root modification, is still the case ?
The seller from best buy ensured me that the phone was going to work in France but this is not true...
Many thanks for your help and support...

1. It is a hardware issue, not software, so you will not be able to change it.
2. Correct, the Verizon model(and AT&T) is still not able to be rooted.
3. It will work in France, it just won't connect at the fastest speed. Myself and others have used the phone in foreign countries with success, so it is definitely doable.
(If) the SM-G900V is the dev edition. Yes you can root it.

If you can quote a source for that, please do so so that we can elucidate more details. Personally, I doubt that it is a hardware limitation. In the past there were hardware differences with different chips needed to support various transceiver bands. But semiconductor manufacturers have been leveraging advances in lithography and economies of scale for some time to move toward single chip solutions.
When XDA members asked these same questions about the S3, lots of people proffered the standard answer saying that it was a hardware issue. And that it would be impossible to modify the firmware to use a Bell or ATT phone on TMobile's AWS band. This was proven to be wrong (1, 2), the limitation was only in the firmware. The S3, S4 and N3 firmware have since been successfully modified to operate variant handsets on the TMobile and Wind bands.
The S5 has been reported to use the Qualcomm WTR1625L RF transceiver. This is said to be the first IC that can operate on all LTE bands and looking at the datasheet for the chipset suggests that this is true. In fact Qualcomm promotes the transceiver this way -

There may still be cost saving or protectionist measures in supporting hardware choices that limit us but given the available evidence and in particular the specific RF chip being used in the S5.. it would be fair to say that regional LTE limitations are much more likely to be firmware than hardware issues.

That seems off topic to this thread, so you should start a new one if you have remaining questions.
You didn't give full details or even name the Asian carrier.. but this is probably the case -
Some iPhone 5s variants support both HSPA+ 2100 and FDD-LTE 2100. The TMobile S5 does as well. But the Verizon S5 only supports HSPA+ 2100, not FDD-LTE 2100. The hardware is almost certainly capable of doing so, but Verizon decided to restrict that band on their S5. Presumably to deter carrier churn. It looks like Verizon only enabled LTE on 700 /1700 for the 900V.
Blame Verizon. AFAIK you won't be able to use the Verizon S5 on that band unless someone modifies the firmware.
