HP Slate 7 Extreme - Lollipop? - Nvidia Tegra Note 7

Hello everyone. Hope this is the correct forum to ask this.
I've been googling around and have not found my answer. I am wondering if there is any news on getting Lollipop on the HP Slate 7 Extreme?
I'm not fussy about how, I hoped even Cyanogen mod would support it, but it doesn't seem to? Or should I be looking for a Tegra Note 7 build?
Thanks in advance!

I honestly doubt we will be getting lollipop. The tegra note is likely to get it though. Maybe someone can port it?

If the Tegra Note 7 gets it, we will eventually. But it may be delayed.

Tablet PC Soulycin S5 10.1 Android ICS

Hello everybody,
during my trip to China (still here at the moment ... ) I have bought the tablet PC in subject, for 150 USD.
It comes with WiFi, 16 gb, HDMI USB and ICS 4.0.3
Now, it tested it for some time before buying, for what I paid, it is OK, but I am now eager to know more about it.
The vendor's website does not tell much, even after Google Translate
suolx DOT com
Do you have any idea about how to
Understand what hardware I have
Know which other ROM I can load on it
Improve the WiFi reception (really weak)
Thanks a lot!
me too
I have bought one as well from dx.com and have no info about it
mine is S66 though sounds the same almost
agreed the wifi is the worse reception on android ive
come across.. even when you like 3 meters away
Im seeing if anyone has superuser it as it really needs
it
if anyone has succesfully rooted let me know
Hi! I did superuser it, no big problems, I found very useful the instuctions on slate droid forum.
Now i bought another more powerful device.

Vitalsource Bookshelf App

Hello All-
I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the vitalsource bookshelf app on the nexus 7. I am looking to buy a tablet specifically for use with this app because I need something for my study materials, but the reviews of the app are poor. It seems like a hardware hog so I figure that the Nexus 7 should be able to run it fairly smoothly but don't want to drop $250 to find out the app still sucks on it. Obviously I get to keep the tablet as a toy after...
Any insights appreciated
Hello, my college uses Vitalsource Bookshelf as well.
However, back when i was using it on Android, I had a galaxy tab 10.1. It did not run very well on that tablet, so I ended up trading it for what I could get...which was actually a windows tablet lol.
The reason the galaxy tab 10.1 was so bad is because vitalsource is a very resource heavy application and the tab 10.1 couldn't really handle it.
I think the Nexus 7 would handle it much better (I have no experience with it personally, just with the app). It has two more cores and a much better processor than my tablet had.
Go for it dude, worst case scenario is you gotta send it back for a refund right?

Thanks for the input. I searched "google nexus 7 and vitalsource bookshelf" and your post on XDA came up from early September which is why I was hoping you had found an answer. Unfortunately I didn't have enough posts to post in the developer forum.
This is a question, so you actually put it in the correct forum. If you'd put this in the development forum, you likely would've gotten only responses about how you're not supposed to post this kind of stuff there.
No problem on the input. If I could've gotten a Nexus 7 when I traded my Gtab away I probably would've but no big deal, my tablet runs it so I'm a happy camper.

I know, really old thread but what did you end up getting to run bookshelf? I have a daughter in grade school who has to use the exact same program for her books and it's a nightmare to use on a Nook Color (it hangs, crashes, and when it does work it's slow as hell).
It sounds like it's a poorly coded app that really doesn't work right on anything correctly so does anyone know of an alternate program to view these books? This forum seems to be all about workarounds, maybe somebody has something.

[Q] Did Nexus 7 get Miracast Support with 4.3?

Hi everyone, I have a quick question and haven't been able to find the answer anywhere.
I just got the update to 4.3 last night on my Nexus 7. I forgot to check about Miracast support. I usually leave it at home for my wife and daughter and take my Nexus 10 to work.
I know the Nexus 10 got Miracast support with 4.3, but I need to know about the Nexus 7 and don't have it here to check. Can someone let me know?
Trying to swing by Best Buy on the way home and pick up the Netgear PTV3000
Thanks.

Only Nexus 4, Nexus 7 (2013), and Nexus 10 have Miracast Support.

That's some BS. Do you know of any mods or ROMs that have added the support yet?
There is already a working Miracast rom, but people/dev don't seem to be interested, so I don't think this rom will be include it to the other popular rom out there for the Nexus 7 (2012).

I think some one got it working on PTV3000, if you read the Youtube comment.

Here is a 3D gaming I asked him to test out, just in case some one wanna know.

Here is the rom site for it:

I don't have a Miracast receiver to test it out, but people who do can test it out.

It's not BS, because I answered your question with quotes. You didn't mention custom roms in OP.

Hahaha. I wasn't saying your answer was BS. I was saying that Google not including it in the 4.3 update for the N7 was BS.

This I never understood, why is that? I would have thought developers would have been right on to this. But kensuke has shown it is possible.
And watching the videos I think it's fantastic. Yes the gaming one had a bit of latency, but it looked minimal. Afaik, other devices (n4, n10) that officially support miracast have similar latency so I don't see why the n7 wasn't officially supported. I'm way more excited about this than chromecast which everyone seems to be freaking over.
I had a look at kensuke's page hoping for news on this being in 4.3 and saw this:
""Remove all traces of wifi display sink implementation and supporting code." "
Sink implementation means that a miracast device can act as a host. So you could miracast from one nexus 7 device to another.
But google has removed sink implementation in 4.3 source! Why would they do that?
Not that I would use the sink feature al the time, but it could be cool where you are trying to demo something to someone, they could just connect to your device and show them. I could think of lots of cool features with that, but for whatever reason, google has removed that code.
Yes the code is there in 4.2.2 but I imagine trying to put old code back can be difficult.
I read that from here:
https://github.com/kensuke/How-to-Miracast-on-AOSP/wiki/Android-4.3
I hope he's successful in getting miracast to work in 4.3 and I also hope he can reimplement the sink feature but again, I understand that may be difficult because of google removing it.
When I saw the gaming video here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20s567tzTdM&feature=player_detailpage&t=316
I noticed how good the picture was. It made me wonder if there was anything in the miracast spec on performance/quality settings. When miracasting a movie I'd want the highest quality and wouldn't mind latency, but with a game or any realtime app, the less latency the better. I wonder if encoding at a lower bit rate would help tackle the latency? Maybe not as it's hardware encoding the steam and it's the onboard encoder chip and not the settings that would influence latency.
Thanks to kensuke for his efforts. I'm still somewhat surprised that it's taken this long for a developer to attempt to tackle this.
And I really hope other devs would show interest and incorporate this into their roms.
Im really surprised to see that no developer other than kensuke is interested about miracast support in nexus 7. This would be the best Customization ever done for nexus 7. A lot of people would be loving to have this feature yet there is only one rom which kensuke made for only miracast test purposes. It can not be ported to 4.3? - dont mind using 4.2.2 until i upgrade to 2013 nexus 7.
Devs hear us out!
Hi guys. Yesterday i bougth SONY TV with miracast feature. Can i use mentioned ROM to mirror screen of my N7 to SONY TV. I am still using Parandroid ROM(v.3.60) based on JB 4.2.2. Do i need to flash whole new ROM or there is any script or application that i can use?

XOOM 2013 Development [B2G][ChromeOS][Ubuntu|Touch][4.4][Linux]

As its taking our community a lot of time to build 4.4 if it ever becomes possible i thought it would be a good idea to start a thread of ideas and any new information for other developments on the xoom.
The idea of this thread is to look to alternative sources of development for the Xoom!
This is what I have seen so far in terms of Ideas from sources other than Android:
IDEAS:
Chromium OS for Tegra (port using tegra 2 drivers)
Kernel based on tegra 2 Open Source Driver Project
Ubuntu Touch (half working port somewhere)
I have a feeling the open source driver could help with the Kernel for KitKat. ive been doing a lot of reading on kernels so i hope to do lots of experimenting =]
CONTRIBUTE HERE ANY IDEAS OR KNOWLEDGE I WILL ADD IT TO THE POST!
Files found for people to mess around with
FOUND NVIDIA TEGRA 2 AND 3 DRIVERS... i dont know if this is the source havnt had the chance to look but heres a zip (SOURCE: Linux for Tegra r16.3)
cousins
Devices that belong to our Xoom Family
Maybe some of the Xooms cousins which share the Nvidia Tegra 2 Gene can help us out !
(image wont upload so heres a link to Tegra Wiki)
XOOM TEGRA SPECS:
Tegra 250 AP20H (Ventana)... 300Mhz GPU.. the Tegra T20 (Harmony) has 333Mhz and appears to be the only difference... theres also the Tegra 3D Ap25 and T25 which have 1.2Ghz CPU's and 400Mhz GPU's
INCLUDES:
Motorola Atrix 4G
Moto Droid X2 (4.4 dev - i dont think its been successful yet)
Moto Photon (? never heard of this!)
and other brands
WIll be watching the Moto sources carefully then have a look at other manufacturers! (a good 15.. another 25 on the othe version of Tegra 2)
It would be awesome to have a Ubuntu touch port that could be used as a daily driver

Yeah it would be nice, im looking at chromeOs for arm though if i could get a build working apparently Hexxeh got it ported to the nexus 7 which i believe uses tegra 4?
the main thing im looking at is porting things over from other Nvidia Tegra 2 based projects so anyone with any information on other devices with Tegra 2 give me a shout... any open source work may spark some ideas! =]
Trimslice
Well, this is a Fedora proyect, the CompuLab's Trimslice is a Tegra 2 device. I hope it helps you out in some way.

Thanks, I'll check out the links at lunch at work and add them to the main post I'm in the midst of buying a new machine for dev. Think its time to retire my pentium dual core! Outperforms laptop i3 and its over 8 years old and was cheap!!

You're very welcome. Good luck.

dasselflech posted this possible kernel source as well.

The phone appears to have the same SoC.
..
I'm willing to help test with my Xoom. Just picked up a Samsung Note 10.1 specifically so that I would be able to start tinkering with my Xoom. I may not be able to help develop, but I am somewhat comfortable with Linux and with flashing ROMs, etc.

[IMPORTANT] We need to do something about our current situation with the 5.1 Update

hey everybody,
As mentioned in the title we need to do something about all the 5.1 lollipop issues we have right now with our beloved tegra note 7.
If we all stick together now and show nvidia that we need there help, that we might get enough attention to get most (if not all) of the problems solved we have right now.
My idea is basically nothing else than just contacting Nvidia together and state our issues. NOT just on their nvidia tegra facebook page or whatever.
we all should take a few minutes to contact them everywhere possible. ONLY on sites which are related to the Tegra Note 7 of course.
we don't want to create unnessecary spam threads on sites which aren't related to the TN7.
so, here are some links to some a few pages where you can leave a post stating some of your issues you have with the 5.1 update:
NO SPAMMING, NO SWEARING, just state your issues
- Tegra Note 7 Board (Geforce Forums) <--- This link will redirect you directly to a new opened thread that i made where you can post about your issues regarding the TN7
- Nvidia Tegra (Facebook Page)
if there are any more sites which are related or important for the TN7 Issue reporting, then pls, feel free to post the link
I get the impression that NV is done supporting their Tegra 4 hardware. Go look at the Shield Portable forum and see the same complaints. This hardware is getting pretty old now.
I do wish it had been more popular and attracted some custom ROM developers.

But they can't just leave us with one of the worst updates ever. They really should take responsibility for what they have done to us (and to the shield portable users).

Come on guys, if you want to get your tegra note 7 (hopefully) fixed, then you need to show Nvidia that you care about your Tablet.
Account registration just takes a minute, so please, just take this minute to help us all together out on this.
@GodOfPsychos
There is one more community related to Tegra Note on google+
I am restricted from posting the link.
Just google it
Godlets start a campaign against Nvidia t
Lets show them we care
btw. i will also try to reach out to the live chat support from nvidia when i have time.
Sadly they don't have a real support page for tegra note 7 (at least i can't see any).
so in this case i will just "invade" (not literally ) their Shield Portable support via live chat and talk to them as long as it is needed until i get a satisfying answer.
i know this might be kind of a "strange" move to make. but i won't just sit here and let nvidia do that to us. so i will try any possibility that it takes to get noticed by nvidia.
AND it still would be pretty nice if all the ppl that viewed this thread without even replying to it, would at least help us reaching out to nvidia because right now there are only a few that try to help. AND we need more people for that.
Please everybody, we need your support on this one.

Really wish some dev would give us a custom rom with decent performance, as opposed to stock lollipop. or even better, marshmallow.
I mean if 6.0 on my old Moto G is any indication on how much better the performance coule be then... yeah
