Hello,
As I understood You are rooted. Did You check root status, do you have superSU installed? What file explorer are You using, did You grant access for it?

Try to root with newroot from munjeni but firstly check if you have USB debugging on and unknown source also and flash 108 kernel and then run newroot and your phone must be plugged in to your komputer and lockscreen unlocked and click root and click OK to RSA key on your phone when pops out and w8 for restart phone and after that you should be rooted and you will can install 157 kernel. Try this method and give us a feedback! Cheers

If everything is done correctly there shouldn't be a problem to change permissions. But before replacing anything just copy existing one so you can put it back as it was. Just double check if Root Browser allows you to root access in settings, because by default it might be in read only mode. Attached screenshot of supersu this is how it looks when file explorer has granted access.

Ok, tried changing permissions using Root Browser, supersu should ask for access and after you grant access app should show up in supersu.

Great, you should be able to work with permissions now.

Never changed these settings, but I assume that you put rw to locations that you want to be able to read and write.
Where is that file located that you are trying to change?

Just give me a source to that file and will try it out.

Try direct download from here to your device and afterwards choose needed path and replace it using file manager. Don't forget to copy stock file to somewhere and set permissions after putting new file.
Ok, tried it myself, i extracted headphone+earpiece path, placed it in system/etc, works fine after testing via *#*#7378423#*#*

[Q] reboot option in power menu

hello i5800 users
i was looking for ways to add a reboot option in the power menu but none seem compatible with i5800. AFAIK it is done by installing andoid.policy.jar but how can i do it for i5800? any ideas?
p.s. something like "Hot Reboot" would also be very useful.
thanks in advance
If you have a rooted phone then you can use switch pro widget to reboot. Another free alternate is to use widgetsoid2.x
Just add widget to reboot.
Sent from my GT-I5801 using Tapatalk
my point was i don't want no widgets. i just want to have an option for reboot when i press the power button
Just use AnReboot from the Market, giving you the option to boot into Recovery Mode,as well.
Sent from my GT-I5801 using XDA App
i just use the terminal, su reboot. or su reboot download or whatever kinda reboot i need

Its not about the ROM, I think it can be done by modifying some .jar files or some .xml files.

You can't edit the .jar or XML files without to deodex the rom, and it seems like nobody did that yet...

I just read yesterday what's the matter with "deodexed". Am I right it's about to geht the .odex files back to .jar files? How can that be done?
Can this be done with the "xUltimate"-Tool? I read this was working on the Galaxy Spica...

Can't upgrade to CWM

I can't seem to find the / cust_backup file to replace the recovery.img any ideas?
I used superoneclick to root my u8800. I've tried holding the vol+/ vol- and power button together to get to the pink screen but when I plug in my USB data cable to my PC nothing comes up. Before on froyo it would and I could see the Image file which allowed me to replace the recovery.img
I've looked on the guides to upgrade to 5.5.0.4 and 5.0.2.7 and they all require me to find the ./cust_backup file which I can't find
Sent from my SGH-I777 using XDA
did you sucessfully rooted your device?
You'll need a File Explorer with root permissions to find ./cust_backup folder.
yes it is successfully rooted, I've checked with various apps and superoneclick itself
How are you trying to access /cust_backup?
You'll need Root Explorer or something similar, because you have locked bootloader
Thank you so much it worked with root explorer!
I was using es file explorer but I guess it doesn't work

es file explorer does not have root access(by default, but you can activate it through es file explorer settings). It means that cannot access to the entire filesystem.
Glad it worked
Es file explorer, has root access(just needed to be activated from settings).
dabien101
You should flash the unlocked bootloader from 518 rom(there is a thread called "get your pink screen back" by bluefish), to have more options to recover the device if something going wrong.

What I did is let it download and reboot into custom recovery and then stopped the flash. Told TWRP to cancel the flash, then rebooted the system and got rid of the update. Then went into /cache and deleted the update file. Never been prompted again.
Usually you can let it try to install and fail to get rid of any nagging. Say if you make a backup of S-Health app and uninstall/freeze it and maybe some other stock system apps the update will fail anyways since it can't update those.
Thanks.
Cant find file

R/W or not?

Root Browser tells me my \system folder has read write access, and I was successful in renaming the file in \system\app to block OTA. However, ES File Explorer tells me that my \system folder is read only. If that was the case, wouldn't I have gotten an error messages when renaming the file?

I'm always unsure if my question is a stupid question. You then get attacked by all kinds of people lol.
I'm not sure what to say about ES. In case your antsy you can always free the 2 updater apps with root uninstaller or something similar. This has worked for me in the past. One is something like OTAUpdate and there's another one that says something like firmware updater or something like that.

You can set the permissions on individual files. Might be why the folder shows read only but you where able to rename the file.
If you look at my screens hot of root browser, you'll see that. The system folder has rw for the Owner (me since I'm rooted)
Sent from my SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 4
If Root Explorer said it changed it, I'm sure that it changed it. Try to view the file on ES and see if the name reflects the change.
ES file Manager now has an option for Root Explorer (turn it on or off). If it's off it won't request superuser access.
Look under settings in ES file manager, scroll down and turn on Root Explorer.

Dialer codes not working any more, due to root?

Rooted my S7E, and just noticed that the common Samsung dialer codes (as *#0*# or even *#06#) do no longer work!
When I enter them into the dialer nothing happens! I used them successfully before!
Only change is that I installed TWRP, root and Viper!
Do dialer codes work on your phone after root?
Sent from my SM-G935F using XDA-Developers mobile app
Yes, it works for me.
That's very strange. Root shouldn't affect those codes as they are generic for all devices.

Did you perhaps install the Google Phone application? I installed it and can't use dialer codes with it. If I switch back to the stock Samsung Phone application it works again.

Solution to failed dialler codes
Boot into recovery using vol up+home button + power button. Then wipe cache in the recovery and reboot.I hope that solves it.

Yes My husband replaced the stock Rom on my rooted S7 G935v and the codes didn't work afterwards
maybe the feature was turned off during the root process. use a file browser with root permissions and navigate to the lowest level and go to-- /efs/carrier --then long press hidden menu and open it with a text editor. Using capital letters just change the OFF to ON then save it, reboot and try your codes again. :highfive:

I see that. Do you use the stock rom? See if you have the actual apk file in your system apps
if you don't have the apk file I think I can send mine. I'm pretty sure if you manually inset the apk in the system folder and change the permissions to match what the other apps in the folder have it should work. I mean you may have to create a couple other files though like the carrier folder and the document in it.
