Pretty awesome news.
No release date for OTA.

Man, I want this phone bad. I'm planning on buying one as soon as the root is released, but if this update comes before that, I'm scared that it'll fix the exploits and I won't be able to root. Uggggggh.
I think kitkat is stable enough, and with adquate performance( especially with a monster-like 2.7Ghz CPU), so the updating to android 5.1 won't be necessary.

That's great news. Hopefull, they will have a soak test starting for us soon. I am excited to see what they are doing with the UI. Though, like others, I will admit that the phone is working exceedingly well as is.

What I'm worried about is that I'll get the phone and it'll already have been updated, making it impossible to root. I'd be fine staying on Kitkat with root.
Think they still need to port over the Video calling from the KK release since its unsupported on Nexus 6. I assume that the Video component is not native to Android yet.

So called it lol
then motorola delays 5.1 and google releases 5.2 and then motorola will release straight to 5.2 and everyone will be like "yeahhhh motorola thanks"
Waiting to go to 5.1 does make sense now that VoLTE is baked in and its more or less Google's problem if there are bugs.

Don't forget that 5.1 is a massive performance booster because it keeps all cores active rather than disabling them. This eliminates perceived "lag" when the cores come in and out of "sleep" states.
Sure hope root it out before this update.

I think he means the video calling option that you use while in an actual phone call. Similar to facetime on the iPhone.
Yeah when you make a call to another VoLTE phone you can Start a video call from the dialer screen. That is not available on the Nexus 6 with 5.1. Is a Verizon specific HD voice feature
The only reason I want Lollipop is for Android Auto. Hopefully we get Lollipop and root.

Right, VoLTE is native in 5.1 but the video calling feature of the phone app is exclusive to Verizon's Advanced Calling and AFAIK, only to Android devices as well.

Hopefully this is a sign that Froyo is inching closer towards an official OTA release.
check a few of the android news sites and you'll find that the Korean n1 launch has been pushed back until "mid July" in order to be able to ship with 2.2 I/o 2.1
Looks like we got a bit to wait still in our "we will be pushing out 2.2 starting in the next coupe of weeks" BS.

They didn't say "couple weeks". . .they were more vague with "coming weeks."

I agree. Just wait. Seriously.
And google CAN take as long as they need because I'm holding the best phone I've ever had right now. Kudos
Without rooting, I cannot manually flash the test (FRF50) build, thus my craving for FroYo.

I'm not sure the release of that phone is tied to our release of 2.2. They would need to have the final build done ahead of that phone's release to preload the OS, right?

You're most likely completely wrong. I'm sure he's already searched for ways to do that.
Hint: He probably doesn't have the T-Mobile version...
I'd prefer to wait a bit longer for the dev team to iron out all the bugs and errors before pushing out the official release. Well yeah Froyo is a nice improvement, but it's not like day and night differences to me so far I'm still comfortable with 2.1.
You can flash the update just fine. Only thing not working is aac playback in the music player as far as i know, other than that it's dandy.
The update is signed with the correct keys so no need for root.

Unless you have an AT&T compatible phone like the OP.
I'm starting this thread because the official update thread has become more of a "I can't update" and "this is how you get around that problem" than about the result of the update... which is not only fine but important. But I think it's just as important we discuss whatever changes are taking place in the new update once it successfully installs.
This thread is strictly for AT&T, and I encourage others to start one for other carriers as the bloatware and other crap will differ.
What I know:
- OTA Kit Kat update began rolling out on March 26th with the majority of updates available in the evening and then mass-available the following day (I updated on the 27th).
- If you have not rooted your phone, most people should have no problems with the OTA. If you are experiencing issues, go to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=51457419
- Once the update is complete, a number of people (or everyone?) have reported (including myself) that touch does not work on boot. You can take out the S-pen, navigate as needed, and tell the phone to reboot. Once rebooted again, touch should be restored (verified on multiple reports).
- New, faster boot time.
- More responsive menus and motion.
- Revised status icons from the "colorful" Jelly Bean look to the monochromatic grey.
- Reports of hotspot being disabled (which means AT&T lied IMO when they sold me on the "hot spot is free now" line).
- Google Wallet does not allow click to pay (someone else will need to elaborate since I have never used Wallet)
- There is presently no root for the OTA version of KK (that I know of)
Please add to this, evaluate what bloatware remains, or was added, what works still, what doesn't that used to work on JB, and so on.
Also, someone with an S-view case please let us know if the S-view window functionality still works.

That's ok, I stated that a number of people did, not everyone. Not sure why. It could be due to whatever software was previously installed. But for those that have the issue, there's the fix.
I wil be honest, I have an unofficial S-view cover. But I just yesterday got my otterbox and struggled to get it on, dust-free. *sigh*.... .I will do my duty now and remove it from the otterbox and reinstall the generic S-view cover. FWIW it LOOKS official... has "Galaxy Note 3" in the official logo style on the bottom and "Samsung" on the back, embossed into the vinyl. Cost me 9 bux shipped. Worked fine before, absolutely nothing wrong with it whatsoever.

Got the Note 3 a month ago andI was very dissapointed that the Note 3 GPS voice was much worse that the Note 1. With the KK OTA upgrade, the GPS voice was changed and sounds better (although I think they put too much base/low tones in it).

Thats because it's the Samsung voice you're hearing, not the standard Android "voice". You can change this in Settings to the stock Android voice.

I haven't updated (I won't give up Safestrap), but from what I've seen, almost all the "improvements" have been done to 4.3 by the devs here. I have a PIN coded lock screen - with a camera. My GPS works except when I turn out of the development. (In the entire city, and on 75 mile trips, that's the only place it glitches, and it recovers in about 3 seconds) ... The only real "improvements I see are a little bit more RAM, a little faster (faster than X-Note on 4.3?) and default text app (but since I run the Kit Kat app, and there's nothing else installed, that's a big yawn to me).
AFAIC, this isn't 4.4.2, it's 4.3.1, with a few things broken from what you guys are saying. It's a minor point upgrade, nothing like what I think most of us were anticipating all fall.
Can't side load any apps. The install button doesn't work.

Why doesn't Google love me anymore? Is it because I said bad things about them on XDA when I switched to iOS for my phone? Why no lollipop lovin for me? I'm sorry Google. I love you again. I'm probably not lying I promise!
I remember back in the day there was a way to force Motorola devices to update. I wish there was a Nexus way to do the same - other than flashing.
Download the OTA Update ZIP: http://android.clients.google.com/p...signed-nakasi-LRX21P-from-KTU84P.4939a9ff.zip
Boot into recovery and click on "apply update over ADB".
Then open up the platform-tools and type in: adb sideload 4939a9ff6d10c495beaed26ac96228246f724272.signed-nakasi-LRX21P-from-KTU84P.4939a9ff.zip
For an advanced guide google it plese. This is a info that you can find within seconds. It's not that hard - trust me
I have the 3g version and I'm still waiting for release.
Oh ok, there is currently no lollipop for the Nexus 7 3G. You are out of luck...

Not yet anyways. I'm hoping to get it either on my phone or tablet soon.
But I am Wi-Fi only 32 gig. I'm well aware I can download/ADB flash - I've been flashing things since the freaking 1980s (no typo) including all my other Android devices. This tablet I keep ”pure " and it has been an experimental personal comparison against my iOS devices, which of course have any updates always available immediately upon announcement.
Android and iOS updates couldn't be more opposite in experience. Android users beg for updates while iOS users beg Apple to stop updating! It's kind of ridiculous!

I haven't gotten an OTA update either. Google is slowly releasing the update in patches, but this is way toooooo slooooowwwww by any standards.
I too have kept my N7 kosher and haven't sideloaded or rooted yet like my other devices. I am going to wait till my patience with Google breaks and then will jump into ADB or rooting
I also have not gotten the update..
Wonder if they stop them due to issues.

Hey everyone. So I've been offered the lollipop update but I'm worried that the update will give me more problems than solutions. So I'm not updating it just yet. I have concerns about battery life getting worse, like how lollipop does to some other phones. So I'll be patiently waiting to see what you guys think, if you've tried it out already.
Also, the update is ~800MB which is kinda crazy. Guess I'll be deleting apps.
Anyways, please tell me how Lollipop is so far! Hope everything is smooth and fine.
Cheers.

Just installed, so far I think it sucks. STILL can't use a different wallpaper for Lock Screen. Thought it was because of 4.4.2 but I was wrong. It is stupid how other HTC phones can do this but this phone can't. Stupid I have to use 3rd party lock screen to achieve this feature. World clock earth is gone also. So far I hate this update.

I definitely think that is the update that's gonna prevent samFail root method and being able to roll back to previous fw. Thank God I'm already rooted and can't take that update. Hopefully someone will figure out a way to pull the Calling Plus feature from this update so we can take advantage of the VoLTE.

To be honest since I switched from HTC to the Note series I haven't missed rooting and flashing much. I use package disable pro to disable apps and now use Disconnect Pro to block ads.
I'm happy to have simultaneous call and data back. Just used it and it worked as advertised! One thing I noticed is the calls did not connect as HD voice calls.

Well i have found a weird issue, and i don't believe it was there before the update. Microsoft Word will not open(crashes instantly) same for Excel, and MS apps. Then i notice my icons frame option is greyed out and i haven't a clue.
I have the unlocked note 8 with the Sprint firmware flashed to it and I got the update yesterday. I did not notice any bloatware being added after flashing. But I did get wifi calling and now have calling plus after the update.
Root and calling plus working for me have to move a few files around but it works
