Google updating apps in market - Nexus One General

I noticed some of my Google apps had pending market updates.
Listen
Places Directory
Google Sky Map (New features include moving to SDCard for 2.2 users)
Hopefully this is a sign that Froyo is inching closer towards an official OTA release.

check a few of the android news sites and you'll find that the Korean n1 launch has been pushed back until "mid July" in order to be able to ship with 2.2 I/o 2.1
Looks like we got a bit to wait still in our "we will be pushing out 2.2 starting in the next coupe of weeks" BS.

They didn't say "couple weeks". . .they were more vague with "coming weeks."

Take as long as you want Google
If people really want Froyo faster they should manually update instead of whining.

I agree. Just wait. Seriously.
And google CAN take as long as they need because I'm holding the best phone I've ever had right now. Kudos

Without rooting, I cannot manually flash the test (FRF50) build, thus my craving for FroYo.

I'm not sure the release of that phone is tied to our release of 2.2. They would need to have the final build done ahead of that phone's release to preload the OS, right?

You're most likely completely wrong. I'm sure he's already searched for ways to do that.
Hint: He probably doesn't have the T-Mobile version...

I'd prefer to wait a bit longer for the dev team to iron out all the bugs and errors before pushing out the official release. Well yeah Froyo is a nice improvement, but it's not like day and night differences to me so far I'm still comfortable with 2.1.

You can flash the update just fine. Only thing not working is aac playback in the music player as far as i know, other than that it's dandy.
The update is signed with the correct keys so no need for root.

People w/ Froyo(HACK) and bugs

Just curiosity: Are people that are reporting "bugs" (though to me it sounds like apps that need to be updated for full compatibility with Froyo) running the OTA updated 2.2, or manually updated 2.2?
Edit: Changed name to Froyo(HACK) as recommended by someone since no one seems to be running a genuine OTA updated Froyo
Manually-updated using the official signed update from Google, for me. I don't have most of the bugs that have been reported here; the only one I'm currently aware of is that two applications I updated via the market this morning are no longer shown in the "Downloads" list, although they are labeled as "installed" when I search for them in the market. Other than that, no problems here.

No one on the entirety of XDA has upgraded via the OTA update. Everyone hacked.
(The OTA was press-only for people who attended Google I/O.)

I understand what you're saying.
However Google have released an OTA update to the MEDIA!
They'll grab this with both hands and show how the NEW messiah has fallen over again and how we should have all bought iPhones.....
I do believe this Froyo is HIGHLY unpolished and very dissapointing. It should have been released when it was fully ready.
I'm desperately trying to get back to CM but it seems to have screwed my phone and I'm stuck........

The market problem has a fix in this thread:

I think I'll just wait for the official Google OTA.
Good thing that people around here are chasing up all the last minute bugs for Google though. I am sure they would prefer to see them now rather than after releasing it to the general public.

good point lol
I'm waiting for the official Google too
Yeah I updated with Paul's version and I would have stayed on froyo but having annoying camera bugs.
I dont think Google meant this as an actual release since you Market isn't allowing protected apps etc with the froyo fingerprint. etc.
So i'm back on Cyan and all is well with the world.
I did however keep the newer radio to test it out.
It would be great if someone around here could change EVERY thread title that mentions this version to FROYOHACK so that once the real official one is released, we dont have to wade through all this pre-release BS. I know it is not possible but just thought.
What were your camera bugs?
I did Paul's too and mine worked 100%. Still have the new radio and according to speed tests it is doing better than the old one

I've posted it in the general forum. QIK app didn't work and if you use the stock camera app and slide to the camcorder then BACK to the camera, N1 would crash.
I posted the logcat and it appears there are some incompatibilities somewhere deep. I tried every kind of wipe and 'band-aid' that I could to get it working and failed miserably.
But I figured since i'm on an AT&T N1 that this release wasn't intended for me and there must be some kind of subtle differences.
*shrug* we'll see.

Hah, as OP, I changed it. I didn't realize (though I had read it somewhere else) that the only people who got the OTA update were press/developers who went to I/O.
FOR THOSE JUST READING NOW: According to Paul (and where ever else I read online), anyone else with Froyo updated manually, so take current issues with a grain of salt.

The FM radio stuff was never announced OFFICIALLY. I do remember it being something rumored, but I don't ever remember Google saying it was an addition to Froyo. AND, even if it was announced, read my reiteration above about no normal consumers having the Official OTA update to Froyo.

The Final Froyo Update is Out! Check for updates now!

It appears the final update for Froyo from HTC is out! My buddy is downloading now. Check for HTC software update and it should download.
Nothing for me yet, I'm on froyo pre-release.
If this is true, the manual check while on the leaked 2.2 update did not work for an upgrade.
I just manually checked too... 326.656.6 is the version
84.34 mbs... 2 options.. download via wifi or 3g or wifi only
on stock 1.47
Yeah, I saw another forum say the same version number was downloading to their wife's phone.
Hopefully it's a slow rollout, or maybe us leak users will have to wait like the HTC twitter says. This might be the delay the other thread was talking about.
Download and post the file so it can be rooted and installed for us leak users

If you are on the pre-release (which I am as well), you will not see the final release available to update to. Per HTC's Twitter, it looks like they are working on something special for those who installed the pre-release. If you installed the rooted pre-release (such as I), simply go to a previous 1.47 ROM and check for the update there.
Yeah I figured as much.
All u people updating let me know how the camera is!
Downloading right now.
Update 1: Installing. Geez, this is taking forever.
Update 2: Installed. Testing out flash on Newgrounds. Runs a little slow on the site experience but the flash videos run smooth for me at least. I'd test out the camera but I never had a problem with it. Always ended up with decent photos. If there is one thing I can nag about the camera on the phone is that it doesn't focus on two people that are moving, meaning the person taking the picture and the person getting their picture taken, like my Cannon PowerShot does but I'm just nitpicking there.
Update 3: If I had to nitpick 1 more thing it would be that I would like to be able to wrap around to my next home screen when I'm on either side. Like go from furthest right screen to the furthest left screen by just swiping.
Yes, I'm downloading now!
Downloading now also. Been checking all day.

Adobe Flash Player 10.1 Officially released for SGS

While reading trough my huge list of RSS feeds, i've found this news posted just few hours ago: linkhttp://www.sizzledcore.com/2010/09/11/flash-player-10-1-for-samsung-galaxy-s-released-download-now-from-android-market/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed:+SizzledCore+(Sizzled+Core)
The Author says that Today, Google has released Flash Player 10.1 For Samsung Galaxy S and it is available in the Android Market.
No Changelog provided.
I guess it's for JPC Users. Did you received the update? Is there any news or performance boost? It seems to be a version developed just for our device.
Let us know
I can confirm it. Updating it now, on JPC firmware. Will check for performance boost, it was pretty terrible for watching video before.
Edit: Still terrible in DolphinHD web browser. Not much use in the stock browser since JPC firmware removed the user agent setting.
Tested in some, err, adult site. Youtube seems like a pointless test since the Youtube app is better to use.
Third sign that froyo is coming (I confirm available on jpc)
Screenshots posted on that post. And it's only available for JPC for now.
Not sure we need signs that Froyo is coming, Samsung already said it was..
Also keep in mind though, it doesn't mean JPC is final, and it's still recommended people use kies (especially since some people appear to have been getting corrupt IMEI's after downgrading)

Well some people say that Samsung wasn't going to release froyo in time but maybe during october and those signs seems to show that they where/are wrong
videos run fine in flash except ones when it says "unoptimized for mobile" then performance is bad (1 frame every 2 sec or so)
i have 10.1 beta i grabbed somewhere in the forums, i suppose final is similar

It was available in google market for JP3 aaages ago aswell. So nothing new here.

They officialy release flash while 2.2 isn't even out yet...
Samsung said it would be released in september but i wouldn't be suprised if it took them 2 more months before they release it.
2.2 is out for many other devices

Epic update tomorrow 9/30/2010

Engadget is reporting that the update will come starting tomorrow with a 4 day rollout and will fix the 3g upload issues.
Can someone with more seniority post a link?
I'm too new to post the source link. Here's the quote though:
"Good news - an update will be released tomorrow 9/30. It will be rolled out over a 4 day period so not everyone will get it on day 1. I will have the standard MR information (fixes included, rollout schedule, etc) available tomorrow morning and will post it in a new featured thread."
Here is the link: http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/29/sprint-epic-4g-update-coming-tomorrow-should-fix-3g-upload-iss/
I hope i dont have to add crap again to do this. If so i guess ill do it.
This is good and all...but is there any news of a 2.2 update? Coming from a nexus one, this phone seems severely crippled by it's software(or lack thereof).
I look forward to the update, but if it doesn't get better soon, I'm going to return it. I have 3 weeks left to return it...we'll see how the tmo g2 looks when it comes out...
No official word yet on Froyo, but the rumblings I've been hearing are either the end of September (so tomorrow or this update) according to support people in the UK, or the end of October according to support people in Spain. No support people in the US have said anything firm about Froyo.

I don't follow you. How is the Epic crippled just because it doesn't have Froyo? 2.2 is not going to change hardly anything... it's the exact same UI. Most apps dont allow for apps2SD yet, and Flash is underwhelming. The phone's already fast as ****. So, please tell us what you mean by your comment.

the phone lacks flash for one. to advertise the phone as a media powerhouse and i cant go to hulu, one of the largest free movie sites blows chunks. who wants to use the media hub and spend 12.95 per movie or even 3.99 to rent when i can order netflix and watch online. by the way you cant do that with the phone as well. i have 2 weeks left and as it stands i will be taking the phone back. i got the epic for personal use and i have an evo for work. the epic is faster and the screen is better but functionality wise the evo is better and i think it has to do with not being updated like the evo is.
so the evo is more functional just because it has flash? by the way, hulu blocks all mobile platforms, so even when 2.2 comes you won't be able to use it.

I agree, Froyo caused many more problems on my Evo than it fixed. Actually, other than flash (and even that is not all that) it didn't improve anything and it broke Pandora and others with LOUSY sound, it removed root and it removed RTSP. Since then, many of these things are possible to work around, but the bottom line is that in my opinion, Froyo is over hyped.

Why wouldn't you want the choice to have the latest OS?
JIT compiler and flash is enough for me to want it. If you don't want it just don't upgrade?
Official announcement and release notes
A sticky at Sprint's Community forum today has release notes:
9/30 - Samsung Epic Maintenance Release
Fixes:
WiFi standby battery drain
Amazon MP3 cannot download in 4G
Large emails lag in upload speeds
Increased 3G upload speeds
Update your software
1. The software will be automatically downloaded to your phone since this is a recommended update.
2. A System update screen will prompt the user to 'Install now' or 'Install later'.
If 'Install later' is selected, a reminder will be sent once or twice a day to install the update.
If 'Install now' is selected, the phone will power down and then reboot.
Important Notes:- This update will take approximately 7-8 minutes to download and 7-8 minutes to install.
- The new software version is: S700.0.5S.DI18
- This update is available OTA (over the air) and will be pushed to your device. It is being pushed in stages, beginning on 9/30 12:00AM EST, and will be rolled out to users over several days.
- Your device must be on software version DI07 to perform the update to DI18. If you are still on DG17 or DG27, a Sprint Service and Repair Center should be able to update your device to DI07. The update from DI07 to DI18 is not yet available to the Service and Repair Centers. As soon as it is, this post will be updated.

Receiving Honeycomb 3.1 updates-explained

It looks like changing the dates/time on our clocks have no effect on whether or not you WILL receive the update, just how fast you get it if you were already part of the group scheduled to receive it. It looks like the Google servers picks a list of Xooms that are next for the updates, and pushes those updates to each Xoom on that "list" when your device communicates with the google servers. So, in short, you get the update when your number is called...so changing the dates will not guarantee you an update, you HAVE to be on the next phase list. So those who changed their dates on the Xoom were already on the phase list, they just got their updates faster because they forced their Xooms to communicate with google's servers quicker by forcing an update check. Hope that makes sense guys
Is this supposed to make me feel better?
no, but it just explains what your doing when your changing the time. If your not on the list you won't get it, but it does its check only so often so changing the date is a guarentee whether or not your on the list to get the update pushed. This way people can understand what theyre doing and not have to complain.

LOL..No, it doesn't make me feel better either, but at least you can get an idea of how it works. It would be nice to know how often and when does Google send out the updates from their servers, so we push our Xooms to check for updates during those times!
So ....
If we missed out on the update for whatever reason can we expect our number to be called again?

you cant miss the update, your "Xoom ID" is stored in each phase, so if your group was sent the update and your Xoom was powered off, etc.. once you turn your Xoom on, the Xoom will check in with the Google server, and the server will automatically send you the update.

Well in 3.1 they added a check now ability for the system update. So they should let us know a little more about how they implement Over The Air updates. I'd imagine if the majority of the users on the list that is available checked as soon as it came out there might be an issue with server power or whatever. But I dont understand what is taking so long, and if more people buy xooms how long will it take next time?

it wont cause any server issues whatsoever, if they wanted to push out the updates to everyone immediately, they can with a push of a button (literally) My guess is that they are just playing it safe in the event that something goes wrong with the updates, better to have a small group with problems instead of EVERY single Tablet owner. I was told that the the list of each group in every phase grows as long as there are no reported issues with the updates.
I don't know about you, but I haven't seen one thing about 3.1 screwing up anything, so push that button.

LMAO!!! Seriously, I think Google likes torturing people! Maybe if we all sign disclaimers they will push the update to all tab owners at once...send me the form to sign Google!!
Push the freekin button already!
Like they're doing OTA updates to one up Apple pretty much, and it is just a fail unless your the one sitting there with 3.1... then again I did always have to wait a month or so with my iPhone for the jailbreak community to make the update... but like, this is for stock I'm waiting. I feel like I'm in court for a traffic ticket waiting for the judge to call my name.

HA! Exactly! We should start a petition: "PUSH THE BUTTON, GOOGLE!"
(in case it doesn't come across, I'm kidding about the petition.)
there should be an option to update manually from your computer like apple does, or just wait for ota...
I just got the OTA update last night...glad i didn't have to wait too long...
at 1st i was changing dates every hour or so...then just said hell with it when it comes it comes...lol
What I really really want to know is if having a rooted xoom and an overclock kernel excludes me from the update or makes me incompatible.
I have seen people say that as soon as they reverted to stock they received the update. I also know that rooted users cash manually install it through adb but I don't have experience with that and would rather do something easier.
In essence if I wait long enough, can I still get 3.1 OTA even though rooted, etc etc?

If you are rooted, the OTA update will fail on install when it comes. You can either 1) Go back to stock and wait or, 2) Do the install methods available for rooted users in the Development section.
