[Q] Issues Rooting on 5.0 - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I hope I did enough research and the problem isn't super simple.
I have the G900W8 On Telus, I just did the lolipop update OTA to 5.0. Everything work perfect no issues. Before now I have not tried to root it.
I first followed the Guide found on /r/galaxys5 which had instructed me to use odin to Install TWRP 2.8.5.0, which I did and got the pass screen. After the reboot, I shut down then Vol + Home and Power it took me to the default recovery after it flashed the android figure with the open chest, and the Text "NO COMMAND".
After this failed I went to try philz_Touch_6.26.6-klite following another guild I had found and same issue when trying to boot into recovery.
I was going to try flashing to CF Auto root but the download for the G900W8 android version was listed as 4.4.2 and I didn't want to change it being the wrong version so I skipped it.
I then tried the Towel root from the sticky on this forum. I had downloaded the app, install it and when i opened it and clicked "Make it Rain" it said your device is not compatible.
So I am out of ways that I could find about rooting my device, As far as i can tell my version isn't yet compilable with rooting until an update comes out.
Also another note I just checked and my Knox hasn't been tripped yet so I feel like i was missing something.

CF Auto Root will work, I used it on mine on 5.0 too
Also had exactly the same problems trying to flash TWRP first, said it had worked but hadn't flashed anything even after 3 attempts,
CF Auto Root worked first time, then I used TWRP Manager to flash TWRP Recovery
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jmz.soft.twrpmanager&hl=en_GB
Remember that flashing custom anything will trip KNOX and possibly void your warranty depending where you live

Well the cf auto root worked, then i booted into recovery and installed Super su but I got a boot loop.
Tried doing both factory wipe and cashe wipes but no fix so i'm downloading the w8 5.0 image and will try flashing back to stock then repeating the process

Are you sure it was a boot loop? Wiping the caches / factory reset will force ART to recache everything which can take upwards of 10 minutes on first boot

I only waited about 2 mins on the loop. I just started the boot again hopefully it isn't a loop then I'll let it run for at least 10 then try the wipe again and try another 10 before I flash anything else

So I tried waiting 20 mins then i re wiped, and i Just finished waiting another 30 with no boot just the repeating samsung screen . Should i flash to the stock rom now? uisng odin ?

Very strange, I did the exact same process and had no issues
Yea, grab a stock ROM and flash with ODIN, you might need to boot into recovery and factory reset after flashing if it gets stuck, Ive heard a few people saying that fixes it

Yea it's easy enough to fix with ODIN, might as well try again
I flashed CF-Auto Root with ODIN 3.09 iirc then rebooted into the OS fully
Installed TWRP Manager from Play Store and flashed TWRP using that
This is the CF I used
http://download.chainfire.eu/397/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-klte-kltexx-smg900f.zip
From here

Just realised, you said you flashed SuperSU in recovery - CF-Auto root already installs SuperSU, no need to flash it again, that's likely why you ended up in a boot loop

Without thinking (doink) tried to install the latest OTA.
OTA failed.
Now I cannot reboot into TWRP.
Installed ClockwordMOD and installed its own custom recovery. Still won't boot into any custom recovery.
Phone works fine other than that.
How can I get back into custom reccovery?
Note: When I turn phone off and try to reboot into custom recovery it takes me to the "reset" screen.. and then IT RESETS the phone.
When I try to boot into recovery from Clockwork or TWRP app it gives me the android robot with the open tummy and red triangle.

The OTA update installed the KitKat bootloader, which hasn't been hacked for custom recovery yet.
Use this to downgrade the only the bootloader and install custom recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2715496
You have to root frist. You can use IORoot25 to root the KitKat rom that you have now: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48709232

Ok.
The KITKAT rom didn't install properly..
Phone says 4.2.2
Super user and apps that need root to work are working properly. Looks like the bootloader is the only thing that got hit.

Oh. Not sure if AutoRec works if you are still on 4.2.2. Sorry bout that.
If it doesn't work, you can always just manually flash the complete firmware using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476. Surest way to get back from failed flashes. You can flash the full 4.2.2 or 4.4.2 KDZ and then start over again. That method wipes everything though.

HELP
I am screwed here.
#1. Tried the "unbrick stock" solution. Can NOT get it to work. I tried it all 3 ways given and it gets to the LG driver start... and then it says I am up to date. I tried to change the country, the language, upgrade recovery, can NOT get it to work.
#2. I can get TWRP to load. But I can't get my computer to recognize my phone so I can move a rom over
#3. I can't get ADB to recognize my phone.

Need help! The clock is ticking! Accidentally wiped my OS with TWRP Galaxy S5

Hello everyone, this is my first post and I'm in a total panic!
I accidentally wiped everything, including my OS which I was not intending on wiping. I could not get my phone to boot, just stuck on the samsung screen for ages so I decided to wipe everything and start a fresh. I have a SM-G900F. I got it online from hong kong a while ago at digital rev but I can't provide a link as I'm a new user.
Is my phone totally dead now or is there a way back from this nightmare? I followed all the steps to install the framework from here correctly but my phone would not get past the reboot stage and now in an attempt to undo that I have seemingly destroyed my phone!
Flash a stock ROM with ODIN
Hundreds of threads and guides and links here
Check it is the G900F in download mode first though

Flash TWRP with ODIN, then boot into TWRP recovery and flash SuperSU

HELP. Phone stuck on black screen after installing SuperUser.

Hey guys, I'm a little devastated. Hoping I didn't ruin my phone.
So, earlier today I unlocked my Moto G4 Plus's bootloader and installed TWRP recovery. I installed ElementalX and a superuser.zip file as well. After reboot, there was no superuser in my app drawer and when I checked my root status with Phh's Root Checker, it said that my phone was not rooted properly. I then found the guide here on how to root, and noticed that it had Phh's SuperUser. I changed the config.txt file like mentioned in the guide, booted into TWRP recovery and installed it and clicked on reboot. I got the usual bootloader unlocked message, but after that my screen went blackish-grey and has been that way since, which is about 15-20 minutes now. I (panicking and being a noob) tried switching it off using the power button which didn't work. I then checked to see if it showed up as connected device in android sdk/fastboot, which it didn't.
WHAT DO I DO? I can't just buy another phone since I can't afford it as I recently bought this one, so it's a really big deal for me. :crying:
PLEASE HELP ME.
Thank you.
UPDATE.
Hey guys,
First of all, thank you for the replies. I'm sorry I couldn't reply to them.
Secondly, a few things have happened since the OP. Keep in mind I had absolutely NO internet during the following events, so I couldn't do any research.
The night my phone went black screen, I went to sleep thinking i'll let it die out of battery and work the rest out in the morning. So the next morning I put the phone on charge and went into the bootloader. I tried doing a normal reboot which didn't work (I got the same screen) so I went into into bootloader again, connected the phone to my computer (it got recognized this time) and re-flashed TWRP. I went into recovery mode on the phone and tried re-flashing ElementalX and superuser. This time I got an error when trying to flash the superuser.zip, and the error was:
Updater process ended with ERROR: 1
Error installing zip file '/sdcard/superuser.zip'
I had another supersu.zip in my phone storage, tired installing it and got the same error.
When I tried doing a normal reboot into my system, it goes on a boot loop on the "your device is unlocked" screen and has been that way ever since.
What do I do now?
Should I try to re-flash TWRP and superuser with the right files, or should I restore stock recovery? I don't have any backup. (noob mistake)
I'd highly appreciate it anyone linked me the proper twrp and superuser or stock recovery files and if possible guided me on what to do.
PLEASE HELP ME.
thank you.
UPDATE #2
So I did what abhi212b told me to do and flashed the stock rom. Everything is fine now.
I'll try rooting it again a bit later. Thanks for the help.
UPDATE #3
I tried rooting my phone again, and it went flawlessly this time! Rooted successfully.
What an emotional rollercoaster lol.
Push the power button for at least 2-3 minutes. Worked for me and others in the past.

Like the poster above stated, hold the power button until the screen shuts off. YOUR PHONE WILL AUTO REBOOT!!! The instant the screen turns off, begin holding the volume down button. When you see the fastboot screen pop up, begin flashing your N images again, or use a custom ROM (which are generally much faster, easier to mess with, and easier to recover from).
Ex didn't flash properly.. That is what I can estimate! If u root on stock kernel, it breaks the device.
As said above go to bootloader (works on any screen... Power and volume down) and then to twrp maybe (flash twrp from fastboot). And then restore any previous nandroid u have.. If not u will have to flash stock via fastboot and then flash ex kernel. When u flash, restart and go to about phone and see if the kernel shows elemental x.. If yes, go to twrp and root it via suoersu, phhh's superuser or magisk su.. Whichever u like.. That should be fine!

Best is that u should flash stock rom, since the phone is bootlooping...
U can find it here https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/moto-g4-plus-xt1640-43-athene-npj25-93-t3549369
Flash it on bootloader screen via fastboot.
Do not relock the bootloader. Skip that step and also do NOT flash bootloader.img and partition. That can mess up the device.
once this is done, boot the device once... Finish the setup and then flash twrp.. Then flash ex kernel then flash any root Zip. (supersu, magisk or phhh's superuser)
Twrp can be found from here. https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...p-twrp-3-0-2-2-recovery-moto-g4-plus-t3386586

Only the last SuperSU Beta defaults to systemless install. Any other ones require writing of a .SuperSU file to force systemless before rooting.

If you have not done this already, you can give it a try by flashing the stock boot.img via twrp and see if that boots the device.
I am not sure that it will work since, i have not tried it.
Exact same thing with the XT1625. I have also found that the systemless method of rooting with SuperSU kills my wifi and cellular network's connection abilities, which might just be a standard G4 thing but the only way I know of to fix it is reflashing the OS (data wipe not necessary).
Just thought this might be helpful to anyone who ran into similar issues to the ones I had.
also i'm still having issues with the stupid thing actually rooting but i'm gonna try again some other day.

I think that is the kernel issue.. you should try EX.. and then use SuperSU or maybe use Magisk SU..

Please help me get my S6 Edge Plus (SM-G928F) out of TWRP Recovery

Heyy guys, this is my first time posting a new thread
Unfortunately, my phone is stuck in TWRP recovery. When it was still working I downloaded Flashify. I don't remember what but when it restarted the phone, it stayed in TWRP recovery and never went back to normal. I tried wiping my phone several times and still won't go back. Then I pressed the option Change or Repair System File or something like that. But I put the wrong option on that menu and now it is completely stuck on the TWRP startup screen , I can't enter TWRP at all.
I tried everything that I possibly could. I even tried flashing a different version of TWRP and Philz Touch but still didn't budge. If y'all have any possible solutions, please speak up. My phone has been like this for about 6 days :crying:
I'm downloading the stock firmware of my model SM-G928F (G928FXXSBPIB). That's the only thing that I think that could possibly make it work. Do y'all think the same or is there something else I could do?
Go in download mode and flash that stock firmware that you downloaded.

Ok so now if you want to root your phone. first install twrp and make sure oem is unlocked. Then when you boot into twrp make sure you dont select that option at the start otherwise you will keep booting into twrp continuously. Next flash cf auto root and then go back into twrp and enable that option that was disabled before you rooted your phone. You should be fully rooted with no errors.

Cannot get TWRP on Oreo, only on Nougat, phone keeps rebooting.

Hi,
I have a S8+, SM-G955F and I cannot have Android Oreo and TWRP (and then root). I only can have Android 7 and TWRP (and then root).
Current situation is: I have Android Oreo, Build G955FXXU1CRB7 is installed. Once I go to Download Mode and flash TWRP, I can boot into TWRP, but my device is not booting into Android anymore. It starts up, shows me the Samsung logo and reboots, then it shows samsung logo again and reboots.
It reboots and reboot and reboots...If I go to TWRP and make a factory reset or format data, it does not help, it only reboots when trying to start Android.
Even if I restore an older backup of boot, systems partition, it does not work...
So what do I do? I flash original Android Oreo firmware once again via Odin and get it back working, but: I loose TWRP again (and cannot flash SuperSU).
Any idea? I would like to have latest Oreo as well as TWRP recovery
Many thanks!

Yes, it was the official one. Just searched the site, but cannot find it anymore. However, flashing the firmware does not need many steps. DOwnload the zip, extract the .tar files in it, open ODIN, load .tar files into Odin and click flash. Then it was flashed and Android was booting again.

you are right, when you flashed the official firmware, on odin did you select the Home_CSC or the CSC ?

I think it was the CSC, but as far as I remember, I also tried the HOME_CSC in the past (not today) but the behaviour was also the same.
As far as I know difference is that with one of these files internal storage is wiped, with the other one it isn't, correct?
But what could this have to do that I get a restart-loop when flashing TWRP? I dont have a problem to flash original firmware, it works. But once I flash TWRP I cannot start Android anymore and have to reflash Android firmware again.

I followed this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/how-to/guide-how-to-install-twrp-root-galaxy-t3752480
But also not much to follow...Download correct TWRP for S8+, load into Odin and click flash. TWRP is correct version and it works for me. But at same time, phone is not booting into Android anymore. This is why I end in reflashing original Android firmware again. I am in a loop :silly:

thanks, but I dont think so.
From the thread I mentioned, yes, I can download TWRP for S8, not S8+, but I went to TWRP site and downloaded correct TWRP for my device. Loading into odin and flash is the same, doesnt matter which device I have.
CF Autoroot does not work for me as it is not available for Oreo firmware. I checked all this previously, I am not a that stupid guy

I used exactly that TWRP version today.
The only difference between my steps and the steps mentioned in your mentioned guide is that they use an older Odin version. But I already used different Odin version too
Ok, aynway, I will try it again with this guide tomorrow and will let you know about the result tomorrow. Thx so far

Hi again,
I got an OTA Update this morning, so current build on phone was G955FXXU1CRC7.
I now downloaded the TWRP file you mentioned and followed the guide you mentioned.
TWRP was installed using latest Odin Version 3.13, then I tried to install SuperSU, but this failed, red error messages like failed to mount /data, unable to mount storage.
same for factory reset, does not work. I formated data, it worked. then I installed Super Su, it was possible. then I rebooted device and what shall I say, it booted into Android
Dont know what I did different now, maybe not trying to boot up Android before installing supersu.zip?
However, Now I have latest Oreo with TWRP and phone is rooted
Now I will go on and install xposed framework :good:
Many thanks for your help.
