Is there a plain vanilla AOSP 5.0.2 ROM? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am looking into perhaps buying the newly fairly cheap S5 (G900F) but there is just way in hell I am willing to use Touchwiz for even 5 minutes so before I take the plunge, I wanted to ask if there is any truly vanilla AOSP 5.0.2 ROM out there (IOW, I want to use GravityBox) or whether I should just stick to CM12?

[Q] Lolliwiz?

Hi everyone, I am not a developer, and I know this question is probably redundant, but I am wondering what is the closest you can get to stock android lollipop with the note 4 specific features. I understand roms are either based on stock android or touchwiz framework, and you have to pick one or the other, but I'm really torn, I have flashed 5.1 on both my S3 and S4 and I absolutely love it, I'm still waiting for the lollipop update from telstra for my stock note 4, but I think when it finally comes around I'm going to be disappointed that it's more touchwiz than lollipop. I guess my question is like I said before, how close can you get to stock lollipop but retain s pen, multi window, etc? Would it be possible to start out with a TW base and swap out all of the UI and apps for stock LP ones? I know I'm way oversimplifying it, I just really want the best of both worlds, I don't really want to root my note unless I can get as close as I can to stock lollipop with the note extras.

If you are not looking into rooting, I recommend Google Now Launcher. It is the most stock Android UI experience you can get on a nonnexus phone. Since it's just a launcher, you retain all your device features. If you are looking into swapping out all of the UI and apps from TW base to stock LP ones, however you will experience this error message everytime you exit out of an app: "Android.System.UI has stopped working", so I do not recommend that.

You're awnser lies amongst the rooted side flashing a tw rom that is aggressively debloated of apps even some essentials and using stock ones from google and then i guess theming the rom to look like a stock pure lollipop. I heard there are some nice alternatives for the spen usage and multiwindow i have tried some in the past on pure android on note 2 but the experience is nowhere near the stock apps from tw, regarding spen and multiwindow.

If you want to keep eveything, you will have to think about a launcher indeed. Goole Now Launcher will be the closest thing.
Google now launcher: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.launcher
I would say when rooted, flash CM12 official, and use CM SPen addon, in combination with notebuddy for you SPen features. You will only lose the multiwindow (links down below).
Spen Addon: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tushar.cmspen2

yeah but you still lose the epic camera quality.
as much as i dislike touchwiz and like cm12 i keep running on stock rom becouse the camera quality on CM based roms is just to bad.
if only there was a way to get the camera quality on a cyanogenmod rom it would be so awesome i wouldnt even care about the spen anymore

[Q] Any good Xperia themed ROMs for i9505?

Hello.
I decided to ask you guys here because I didn't find an answer for my question anywhere else. So, I'm a proud owner of i9505 with the newest version of Imperium ROM installed. I'm not staying with this ROM for too long, cause I dont't like TW too much, I plan on switching to something like clean CM12, just have to make sure few issues (like the "Cannot connect to camera" error) are gone.
Howewer, lately alot of my friends have been getting Xperia phones, and while they don't have the best hardware, I'm jealous of their UI. I love it. It looks and works good while being pretty simple and straightforward. For last few years I had i5830 (Galaxy Ace) as my main phone, and while it was old as ****, I remember it had like every single UI framework ported to it. I loved that. Now I'd really like to switch to something Xperia-themed (or a full port, if possible) on my i9505. Is there any decent ROM that would do the thing?
Thanks in advance.
There may be some very old experia themed roms around the forums. But those might be kitkat or jellybean.
You could use themes or layers (depending on the rom) to get the desired look, or even something better.
As for the rom, if you want a bareboned rom, go for CM12 (Optimized, Sabermod), the AOSP project rom or Slim roms. If you want features, try Resurrection Remix, AICP nightlies, Candy5, Team Radium, etc.
Hi,
With RR, i like and use this one :http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/themes/cm12-xperia-z4-lollipop-theme-theme-t3067163

have you seen the one google edition v 1.2? in development section?
I've looked at it but it has 'Basic LG apps and features' so not exactly a pure android rom
there are plenty of AOSP roms here..
CyanogenMod for sure.
I haven't used Nexus devices, but by all accounts Cyanogenmod is pretty close to stock android. I have used Cyanogenmod on a tablet and CyanogenOS (the stock OS based on Cyanogenmod) on a Oneplus One phone, and both felt pretty tidy, fluid, and fast.
So anyways, if you want to have the same experience on G2 just install Cyanogenmod or Blisspop ROM. Based on my observations on the discussion boards here, CM 12.1 (based on Lollipop 5) is reliable and stable, while the CM13 (based on Android 6) is relatively beta-quality. So IMHO, if you want a very good "Nexus" experience, you can flash CM12.1 ROM and see how it goes.
yeah cm is pretty close, just was looking to see if there was something even closer to vanilla. cm has extra stuff built in, but not too bad i guess.

Galaxy S7 Touchwiz on S3 i9300

Hello everybody. Any chance for port Touchwiz from s7 to our s3? This ROM looks beautifull <3
I know kernel for touchwiz is hard to compile but we have good developers so they can try. I can pay for this rom and kernel. PRIV
First, we need working LP port of touchwiz that is funcional ;D
Hey there @LaweK,
What You are currently looking for is already available.
HyperRom -
Hands Down the best touchwiz rom for GT i9300,Im currently using it and couldnt be more satisfied.
However this rom is running on android 4.4.4, and not marshmellow, However the Android Version didnt affect me at all as it was impossible to guess that this rom is 4.4.4 due to the features and its UI, that almost completely mimicks the s7 marshmellow features.
Anyways, I Fully Recommend this Rom To Anyone who owns a Galaxy s3 and prefers the original samsung UI.

I don't like hyper-rom v6, I tested it two days and it was really buggy for me, android 4.4.4 is the past generation of android. I consider since lollipop is a different android so we need to work together to get a good lollipop or marshmallow tw rom for our device.

Well Different Opinions I guess, However HyperRom Was not at all buggy for me nor was it slow [Im also Still using it with no issues.]
Anyway There`s Also Another Touchwiz Rom Ive used Eclipse Rom Together With The Ultimate Marshmellow Mod. Just thought you should know, It is beautiful however proved to be more buggy for me.
Anyways I dont think we are to expect a Android Marshmellow Touchwiz Rom For The S3, Lets Face it This Phone is now 4 years old and we should be suprised on how much support it is still getting.
We Barely Have An Android Kitkat Touchwiz Rom, So we are to get a Lollipop Touchwiz Rom, before Marshmellow, So it Might Take Either a lot of time to happen or it may not happen at all.
Anyways CM13 and CM13.1 Is available right now that is with android marshmellow, So you can try that too if you want.

I once read that someone was porting lp 5.1.1 from a s5 rom. He said that it booted it with lots of bugs and it would not even be in alpha. I'm still searching for that forum I canĀ“t find it . I'll give you a link when I find it :fingers-crossed:
Probably it willl be very hard to port S7 TouchWiz (too RAM consuming), it might be partially ported in future but I suppose it would be slow and buggy.
Can we solve the camera problem by upgrading s3 to s7?

Looking for best 6.0.1 to install

Hi all, thank you so much for you suggestions and kind attention.
I'm gonna buy this phone soon, I'm new here, I would like to know which is the best ROM suggested here.

Then name some.
[BIG RANT START] DON'T READ IF YOU'RE TOO SENSIBLE
All roms, they're almost the same. People get the sources, compile it, and release it.. and they all looks like the same.
Every non-stock-based (TW) rom looks and runs almostly identical.. They have almost the same functions, almost the same stability, they share the same "device tree" and kernel.
Even boeffla's kernel has no new features for AGES. And the "developer" just blames Samsung and wash his hands.. (and I have "donated" for his app)
I'm sick of no specific S5 stuff, improvements FOR s5 or performance tweaks FOR s5. I bet they mostly don't even USE a S5 anymore.
Even the ****ing microfone has ultra-low recording volume for AGES and no one cares. They just COMPILE what they DOWNLOAD from others and "release" it here.
And there are people THANKING them for making just this. Come on, it's not a matter of being ungrateful, but to be critical. I don't like mediocrity!
If you appear to be totally satisfied with the **** you're receiving, no one will give you more than ****!
And NO, I don't have to "do better" to complain about it or be critical about it. When did GOD say that you can't complain about something just because you can't do better? or it's just a xda's RULE to be a totally grateful lame fanboy about everything you're getting here? I'm just not mediocre.
But anyway.. peace for all.
On my old LG phone I used to run custom ROMs in order to free-up internal memory & squeeze out more performance (on an aging phone) and to get some additional features (on an aging OS). I haven't bothered to install a custom ROM on my Galaxy S5 because:
1) Stock Android 6.0.1 is really good.
2) Rooting enables you to remove bloatware and free up memory, via Titanium Backup. I've got all the apps I want and no memory shortage.
3) Installing the Xposed framework, and some Xposed apps (especially XtouchWiz) has brought to my GS5 all of the "built-in" features that I'd want from custom ROMs.
4) Custom ROMs tend to be a bit buggy and tend to waste a lot of my time because I have to update the buggy ROMs.
I am now perfectly happy with my GS5 and I can't think of a reason why I'd want to hassle with installing a custom ROM. But that's just me.
This sure turned into a whine fest. Install what you want. The great thing about having custom roms is the ability to flash different builds in order to get the features you want. I prefer stock cm13. Only issue that I have is Bluetooth stuttering on wake. There's it. Everything else is stable and predictable. Using xposed with a few modules adds some features normally in RR or Bliss but with, for me, without the lag.
Why I choose custom over stock? I cannot stand the thought of being locked down to a device I own outright. I should have the right to change my status bar. I should have the right to choose what apps I want on my device. I should have the right after paying 600 at the time to full control over my device.

this became really good thread!! Thank you all for posting your experiences! For me really great and I can save really lot of time!
Please keep posting your choices!
really with Xposed apps is possible to have all features of custom roms?
CM13 is the official stock rom? There is one with root included?
What about "with stock rom you don't have all the control of the phone", is that true even with root?
Thank you
AICP 11
running AICP unofficial on KLTEVZW with unlocked bootloader. Currently have it set up with gestures and all just the way I like. Have flashed a few other 6.0 ROMS but keep coming back to this one. Bluetooth on screen unlock is kinda buggy with screen unlock but is similar to the issues from what I understand with CM13. Android Wear seems to work as it should with first gen Moto 360. I have a note 2014 as well and just use it to stream music to my bluetooth speaker. Tag or PM be and can point you in the right direction if you would like to try it out.

too many
theres just too many but the best ROM i think would be PAC-MAN cuz its got a bit of everything, however i am yet to find a fully working one. closest i could find was Ressurection Remix. its pretty dope.
In my opinion. Tipsy OS
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3393668
is the most stable and up to date aosp based rom out there for the S5.
Fast, smooth and zero bugs.
Incorporates the latest theming engine

I'll reccomend VanirAOSP. It is pre-rooted, faster and more stable than CM13, and looks quite cool.

Have Verizon G900V and unlocked the bootloader using the forums here @ xda
vaniraosp lacks lots of features, as I remember..
Im using aokp with no complains ... it seems faster than others with its default kernel..
crazykernel reboots if you change almost any default options, and boeffla's lacks features and has some untested/buggy governors (less than crazykernel though)
it seems real devs are abandoning s5 as everything is just in an alpha stage forever
