Pink virtical line note 3 display!? - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys! I've been on xda for a few years and finally decided to make an account! The reason being is because in a bit desperate. I have a mint condition Galaxy Note 3, I had it for a little over a year. Lastnight it died on me, I plugged it in powered it back on and now all of a sudden there is a bright neon pink vertical line on the screen!! I have no idea how it became but I did everything. Factory reset, battery pulls took the phone apart blew out all the connectors but still! It's even on while In recovery and in download mode. here is a picture. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Ps it's to the left, doesn't look like much on the picture but it's super annoying in person and really bright.

It sounds like there are some shorted out pixels in your Digitizer. That is the screen that creates the color image under the glass touch screen. Here is a replacement http://www.amazon.com/Screen-Digiti...97888&sr=8-5&keywords=galaxy+note+3+digitizer read the second line in the description. I would watch a couple replacement videos on youtube before you try it. Or you will have to send it in for repair. The problem is hardware not software.

Damn, is this the only fix? Kind of sucks because it is in mint condition and well taken care of. $200 is a lot lol would rather just put 200 down for an upgrade to the note 4. I wish there is a fix for this maybe it will magically go away if I keep using it lol

Any other suggestions guys?
Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Free mobile app

Yes, that's a hardware defect.
Depending on where you are, you might still have warranty. It's 2 years by EU law.
Alternatively, you could put it up for sale (plenty of techies who will happily replace the screen themselves) and buy a note 4.

Here is my phone displaying a black picture, is there any other way to fix this without replacing the digitizer?
Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Free mobile app

Thanks a lot guys really appreciate it. I will probably put it up for sale and get a note 4

Something is wrong with my screen please help

I just noticed today that there is a bright line at the bottom of my screen. Tried changing wallpaper rebooting made no difference. Not sure if its a burned line on the screen now. I have attached a screen shot, any suggestion or test method I can check would be greatly appreciated.
Sent from my GT-I9100M using Tapatalk
Lol can't see it which means its probably something wrong with your display

If it's the display itself that's having a problem, you need to take a pic of it using a camera. A screen shot is just a capture of what's being projected on the screen, not the screen itself.
I had the same problem after a screen replacement on my phone which I originally broke the screen on. I would suggested taking it back to the store for a replacement handset.

Don't think so, I feel your pain mate. Its a line of dead pixels on mine it was really bright then after a few days then typically after about 2 days it changed to a really really faint line which was barely visible.

that's exactly what I have right now. A really bright thin line. this is a canadian bell sg 2 and I have rooted and unlocked with chainfire cf-root using zs kg2 kernel. So I got a yellow triangle that I need to get rid off. Any suggestions? I'm worry about the counter where they may be able to tell that the phone is has been tempered. :-(

Restore to stock firmware and reset the custom rom download counter using a USB jig.

(Q) is it normal for these screens.

Never owned a IPS screen or so.
Is it normal to have yellow tint on the edges when having a black background ? When I have a white background its pure white ( saw someone with yellow tint on white background) .
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Nope. That is one of the problems that some users are facing. You should RMA your 7.
It would be pretty bogus if that was how ALL IPS screens were, lol.

True. After hours or researched. I came up with not much to go off by lol.
PC screens with IPS screens were saying that yellow tint were cause by a glue not being dry out evaporated yet and the more you use it they tend to just go away and get Better. I guess iPad 2 had similar problems. Most of them advice to use it more and they will go away so I might try that . I'd hate to be without this for a week to 2 weeks. But then again I got mine at Sams but their put and no way of knowing when they we will one.
Didn't happen doh until I got some heavy duty gaming last night. So might have gotten hot and was evaporating the left over glue? Lol correct me if I am wrong but that's what I gather so far..

I don't have it in mine and don't know much about it but my roommates IPS monitor NEVER had a yellow tint.
And Google will do an advanced RMA where they send you one and put a hold on your credit card until you send the other one back.

Screen burn in with view smart case...smh

Smh...i hate amoled...fixes?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
Hmm the only way you should get a screen burn in is if your screen was on the entire time the case was closed. Sometimes I wipe my screen because the plastic opening makes a little mark and that takes care of it.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Wow thats crazy i would be so pissed and be taking it back.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda app-developers app
Technically amoled shouldn't burn in very easy at all. Take that phone back now. If the cover caused this then wow.
Sent from my SGS4. Go Blue!! Buck the Fuc keyes!!
I work at best buy Mobile and I've noticed this on the 4 s4's that we have on display. Each one has some sort of burn on it. 2 have the smart view case and 2 don't have anything. Keep in mind these are demo phones so they run a demo video all the time. They never turn off. Still pretty disappointed since we got plenty of other phones that never turn off either and have been there for months.

Burn in has been an issue since the S2...
S2, skyrocket, note, note 2, s3 and now s4 have all shown the potential for burn in
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda app-developers app
All LCD based screens have the potential for burn in. But the way amoled handles pixels makes it less likely to get burn in. Not saying it can't happen. Just less likely is all.
I know on plasma TVs there is usually a white or black mode that helps reverse burn in...
Couldn't you run the LCD test via dialer codes and let it sit on white or something for awhile and that should help

Dead pixels already ?!?!

I have my note 3 for a week now and I already see dead pixels in the middle of the screen Is that normal? Its like 2 black dots in the middle of the screen... so annoying...Is there any possibility that those are not dead pixels and that those dots are something else? Also is there a way to fix dead pixels? So annoyed

Take it back to where you got it from.....
It's the only thing you can do.
I contacted samsung and they told me that they won't replace it cause they don't see it as a problem?! I spent 1000euros on note 3 and galaxy gear ... so dissapointed... Also just noticed that my home button is moving a bit when pressing and makes loud sound... Will contact samsung again tomorrow...They built note 3 badly (home button isnt good, dust gets between bezel and sreen...) Any suggestions on what should I do?
Sent from my SM-N9005 using xda app-developers app
Con you have a double check using the diagnostics of the phone. .
Press *#0*# in the phone dialer pad . And check the screen in all colors..
I hope it is a software issue .. just a hope. .
I feel for you.. We spent so much money on these devices and all we get from Samsung is a cold answer ..

I did what you said and I can see the "dot" on every color... Can't see it only on black screen Ty for suggestion

Don't call Samsung, visit a Samsung Service Centre yourself, show them that screen test with the dead pixels, and you'll get a replacement.
If they try to persuade you state your rights, you have the complete right to get a replacement, you have a (very) faulty unit, if it has all these problems together (home button issue, dust issue and dead pixels).
Don't hesitate to be stubborn and very defensive.
If it goes down to this, if your country has a customer protection hotline, call them there and they'll help.
Thanks will try Hope that I get a replacment

[Q] Lighting not even?

Hello everyone!
I bought my gn3 about a week ago and now i noticed that the lighting isn't even????
Did i damage it or note 3's have this issue?
its visible when the brightness is set to about 30% and on a gray background. its most visible on the left side of the screen (like a slightly brighter tint or something)
can anyone check it on their devices as well for me?
Thanks!
Edit : it's not only on the left side it's all over the screen. when I open the phone app I can see the background isn't one color but scales of dark grey and I think it's supposed to be black.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Free mobile app
It's like that and there's really nothing you can do.
Except trying to find another N3 that doesn't have that, or at least in a smaller scale, but good luck with that.
And next time, do some Google searching...The phone is now more than one year old, so any other problems you encounter, you definitely wont be the first one.

Ah, I see.
I'll check my friend's note 3 tomorrow and I'll tell you what I find.
Thanks a lot.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Free mobile app
That's normal. Nearly all units have that.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk 2
I checked my friend's and it's smoother than mine. Also mine is a little visible all the time.
Well then, since it's in all units I'm okay with it.
Does anyone know what causes it?
Thanks for everyone who replied.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Free mobile app
Here's a picture. Look at that left edge.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Free mobile app
That definitely isn't normal. I would exchange it.
I see. Well I will try to replace it and see if they are going to accept. Because it's only visible in few lighting conditions. (it also annoys me a lot)
Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Free mobile app
Hm, this looks more like Light Bleed. That does warranty attempting to replace it, it shouldn't have that. (Although it often does in a lot of devices)
Well. What's the cause of that? Is it some loose screw?
Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Free mobile app
So I was thinking of replacing it. But before that I made a research about light bleeding. They say it's pretty common. So, I'm afraid if I replace it I get a worse one. What do you guys think?
Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Free mobile app
It's a display problem. Samsung will replace it for free.
I see. But what if the new unit has the same issue? Do I keep replacing?

I don't think you will have the same problem. They have to replace the display, if also your new display will be broken, you are a very unlucky person
Well. I will go and see. I will tell you guys what will happen.
Thank you

I have no idea where you're from, but there's usually more than one Samsung Service Centre in a country.. You can find the addresses on the Samsung website under Contact.
I just called them and oh gee. It's a 30 minute drive. I'm too lazy to drive for 30 minutes. Also I have exams. So maybe next week? xD
Bare with me guys
