So driving a truck I am on the road all week and have a Slingbox hooked to the cable box at home. Love it for watching my home tv on the laptop on the road. It started acting up on me recently and I thought my Slingbox was going on the blink. I will be watching it for 10-15 minutes and it freezes, giving an 'internal error or interet connection' problem.
I set the laptop up at home and run it off the home wifi and it runs flawlessly. I turn on the phone hotspot and watch through that and it boinks out after ten minutes or so. I can re-connect but get interuptions in the signal that borks the program.
I am rooted NI2 running Wanam and using moto tether module to activate the hotspot. Never saw this problem before getting my S5 and running things through my old GNex ...
Any suggetions?

I've been able to get ineternet tethering working properly on my phone for a few months now. The internet connection keeps going out and it only stays on steadily if I have a torrent file downloading for some reason. If I'm just browsing the internet my connection will stop working for a little bit and then come back on.
My girl friend has the same kind of phone as me and it happens with her phone to.
On my droid X my wifi tethering drops often using either wifi for root users or verizons app with the NAI changed (aka not paying for it), Anyone else having this problem. laptop just stops working or netflix streaming stops but device appears to still be connected. Never really used the wifi tethering enough with my other devices in the past (dinc, droid 1, etc) but its annoying now that i have a small laptop and try to use it often. PDAnet works perfect via cable, so maybe its the droid x wifi driver thing?

by drop do you mean the cellular data connection or the wifi connection? one possibility (unlikely) is if you are receiving a lot of texts. I know that on my X when i receive a text the data connection stops while receiving a text. By stops i mean the data arrows are inactive every time i receive a text regardless of what i'm doing with my data. however i doubt this would cause your netflix to stop. do you have certain power settings to change the data state when the screen turns off or something?
Mine does the same thing. I can use it usually anywhere from 2 minutes up to 10-15 mins max. It does this using 3G Mobile Hotspot & Wireless Tether (ad-hoc). In fact I was looking around on Google, and saw a bunch of people with the same issue, ones that were even paying for the tethering option. Mine is so bad that I don't even bother with it anymore.
I'm using the PDAnet USB connection right now, and it's working without issue. I also have great results with Bluetooth DUN, but it 'feels' slightly slower when compared to the USB connection. (which could all be in my mind)
I've had it happen on the stock OTA 2.2, Rubix Blurry .3, and now Rubix Blurry 1.0. I had it happen overclocked @ 1.2, LV 1Ghz, underclocked LV @ .9 and am currently back at stock speed and voltage.
im assuming its moto's hardware then shame with fission i was actually starting to like the phone alot
Before my internet was connected at my home I used my phone as a hot spot and it worked flawlessly. I never had a connection issue except when I would receive phone calls.
yep. mine stops ALOT. ill get lucky and stay connected for a few minutes here and there but it will disconnect non the less. PDA is ok but still.
3g hotspot and wifi tether for root useres works great for me. Both only drop when I receive a call such sucks if you are in the middle of modern warfare match.

Mine did this too,but all my smart phones have. Not just motos. A few wks ago I started using barnacle on my dx and havent had much of of a problem since. Maybe once an hr I have to stop and start tether again. It was acting up yesterday but I figured out battery manager app will kill the connection. Lemme know if it works or it's just a coincidence.

Hi, I just got my A7. I got it to connect to my wifi router. WEP etc, but connected fine. Problem is that it disconnects within a minute or 2. I have to go to settings and turn the wifi back on, then back to app to get online or whatever. Sometimes it shuts off before I get back to app and get online again. Tried to download angry birds, but it shut off before finished. The router is a Netgear WNR1000 B/G/N with B/G/N all turned on. It is in the room right under me, about 5 or 6 feet away through the floor. I get wifi on laptop great, even out in the yard or out in the street (in car). Kids and wife laptop use G everywhere in the house with no prob,
Any help? I tried the Elocity hotline, but only open 9-5 M-F. I just got it and it is 7pm on friday night.
Thanks.

64 bit or 128 bit WEP?
I am using 64bit WEP with no issue. But I have heard of people having problems with Android+WEP and I suspect it is a 128 bit key problem.
I use my A7 with my router with the WPA2 encryption. Some routers have flaky firmware so I updated my router with ddwrt firmware.
Also sometimes make sure the wireless channel on your router is not crowded by other routers in the proximity. So download the WiFi Analyzer to see which channels are less crowded. When the channel is crowded sometimes I lose the connection due to the interference from other routers.
Giany
Got it working.
Ok, I fiddled with it for several hours. powered off and back on several times, and after pushing the reset button on the back for the 3rd reset, it just suddenly started to work.
I did get Dexters mod 1.41 installed along with a large # of apps. Wifi is somewhat slow and week, may have to try the antenna swap I saw in another thread.
Thanks for the help.
grab a little app from the market called 'Keep WiFi' and put a wifi switch widget on your home screen. This should be a big help. I had the same problem after flashing the new dexter patch, but this app keeps it on I have to throw the switch off and back on after restarting my A7
theres a nice stock widget called powercontrol w a wifi toggle on it. i prefer it on a7 and x10.

Hello,
I am trying to use FoxFi with my Nexus 7 tablet. I have a Photon 4G that I am running it on. I just did a factory reset on my Photon and my tablet is brand new. I can connect for only a few minutes and my Nexus 7 will drop connection but FoxFi shows that it is still turned on, just does not show it is connected anymore. I've made sure that any timeouts have been disabled, I have no app killer on my tablet or phone. Everything is up to date. Bluetooth DUN connection works fine when using PDANet, Open Garden, and FoxFi but I can't get a lot of the google applications to work when using that method.
FoxFi shows up on my tablet fine, connects fine but after 30 seconds to a minute it will disconnect and then maybe 5 minutes later it will reconnect only to drop the connection another 30 seconds later. I also did a factory reset on my tablet. Both are back to factory settings and they are still having the same problem.
I saw there was another problem along these lines and they said that the problem was an app killer. I don't have any of those installed.
Anyone have any other ideas? I am fresh out of them.
Regards,
locohammerhead
Did you ever come to a solution? I have the same exact problem.

Foxfi just doesn't seem to be all that reliable. I can start it on my phone and have a hotspot up and nothing will be able to see it until I clear the apps data and restart the phone.

It's a FoxFi quirk. Play with it enough and it will resolve itself.
For instance, installed FoxFi on my Droid Charge, connected fine to my Nexus 7, put the Charge in my purse, and a few minutes later the Nexus loses connection. Pull out the Charge and it still claims to be connected, or claims to not be running while having the icon in the notification bar.
Install the Proxy, and the Nexus 7 cannot connect. Set the Nexus to use the Proxy settings, and it works great for a while, then won't connect. Have to delete the proxy settings on the Nexus and go back to DHCP to make it work while proxy is enabled on the Charge. Annoying.
Now I tend to put the Charge in my purse with the screen still on to ensure my signal. lol This is on the replacement Charge, the original would keep the connection solid without the screen on without issue. Still tweaking the replacement's settings.
I got rid of Foxfi. I flat out couldn't stay connected while on the go. Nexus 7 would lose connection with Foxfi / Samsung Prevail every block I I walked. Annoying. I would get the "out of range" on the tablet in wifi connections but the phone/ the Foxfi app would still show as broadcasting. I use Open Garden now and I stay connected solid.

The goofy title says it all. I want to leave my Nexus 7 in my truck all the time, turned on, and have it automatically hook up to my GS4 through Bluetooth whenever its close enough to connect. So far I have the mount and have balanced out the charger so it barely charges more than it uses. I have increased my battery by only about 5% in three days. I realize I may need more power if I do much more than leave the screen on all the time and I can adjust for that.
I would like to be able to run Waze and Escort Live on my Gen1 N7 that doesn't have its own internet connection. I leave the Bluetooth enabled on my GS4 all the time and when I get in my truck it automatically connects to the Ford Sync so that part is good. What I would also like is for the N7 to connect to GS4 and get an internet connection without any intervention by me. I would rather not use WiFi tethering as it doubt my phone could handle that all day long.
Is this possible?
Really? Nobody does this?
I tried Easy tether from the Play Store today with my N10 but haven't tried it yet with my N7. It seems rather slow, and I am not sure yet if it connects automatically.
