Hopefully someone can shortcut a safe script and do it soon. Verizon is getting quicker at popping out root block methods. They should focus more on making lollipops!
This would be awesome.

I'm attempting this method right now, and let me tell you, this is most definitely not for the faint of heart. This process is EXTREMELY dangerous, and there's a good chance that it won't work at all. I'll fill you guys in when I'm done, but given the speed of this thing, that'll be in a day or two. If it's successful, I'll write up a tutorial in English, but again this is not for the faint of heart. It literally involves putting your phone into QHSUSB_DLOAD mode, a mode that is more wide-known as a hard brick.
Again, I'm doing it right now, it says the process will take more than 3 hours, so I'll be back sooner or later.
Edit: Also given the fact that you're going into QHSUSB_DLOAD mode, there's no safe script. This process can and probably will **** up your phone. Unfortunately, it's too late for me to turn back, so I just gotta go on ahead with it and hope for the best.

You sir are a man with big balls. So this process involves hard bricking your phone and in the process of bringing it back to life, gaining root?
Also what phone are using? I know it says it's for the mini but wondered if it would work on the ultra and maxx as well.

I'm using the Ultra and I'm literally scared ****less to be completely honest. I have to wait for it to finish the first process, and then I have four more to go. I'm hoping to be done by tonight, but considering the speed that this is going at, it'll take a day or two to finish. As dangerous as this process is, as soon as you run the script to start uploading the system.mbn files to the phone, it also fixes the boot loader (fastboot mode) so just in case your computer turns off (as mine did like an hour ago/again I was scared ****less when that happened), you just can go back to fastboot mode and start over.
I Do NOT recommend anyone try this though until I finish and post my results, but everything seems good so far. I'll post a screenshot of the process if you guys want to, and I am most definitely starting a write-up tutorial as well as trying to make a one-click, that won't be posted until I complete this successfully.
Thank you thank you thank you.... Eagerly waiting!!!!

The first step out of five just finished like 10 minutes ago, so I'm in fastboot mode charging my phone because letting it die in the middle of the process doesn't seem like it would be good. I'll probably start step 2 in like 30-45 minutes so I can get a decent charge before I continue. Also, just giving a heads-up that rooting looks like it'll be an all-day process considering I started it at 2 and it's 6:05 right now. And that was just step one.
Well good luck to you sir... I for one (and I can probably speak for allof us out here) VERY much appreciate it.

Just wanna give a update while I'm letting my Ultra charge up, you should REALLY make sure your phone is at 100% charge before you attempt this because charging in fastboot mode is a bit questionable (my phone says Battery Low and the charger has been connected the entire time from entering fastboot mode), so that's something to be aware of. I'm gonna let it go until 7, and then I'll start Step 2. Hopefully it'll be done before I go to sleep so I can put it in fastboot to recharge overnight and I can continue in the morning with Step 3. This is definitely a very long process.
Sadly, It is impossible to root the Droid Maxx. I commend anyone trying their luck however.
If I'm not mistaken (and I really hope I'm wrong) I believe you need a "factory" USB cable to charge in fast boot. And by factory I don't mean the one that came with the phone. I had to order one on eBay to do what you're describing... Charge in fastboot...
Again ...I really hope I'm wrong here and just remembering incorrectly
Good luck my friend

Well, I rebooted fastboot and it says Battery OK now so it seems like it's charging. Either way, if it stops working, I'll just send it back to Moto since I'm in warranty.

Okay, 1 hour later and I'm still at Battery LOW (Charging).
Unable to proceed because the battery doesn't want to charge.

are you charging on a usb port or wall.charger? my dev maxx would charge using both, but the amps (or lack thereof) of a usb port take forever to get the battery back up. also, if ya have a friend with a turbo charger, they charge fast-er. (mini at zero takes an hour, as does the Turbo). Good luck.

I was attempting via a wall charger first but that got me nowhere, it didn't actually start charging until I plugged it in to a USB port. That's when I got Battery OK (Charging) but rebooting and entering fastboot again gets me Battery LOW
yeah, that sucks. good luck dude.
I've looked through the scripts to see what this does exactly but I'm not familiar with python. Is this a method to get root or just to downgrade to su5.24(which is still 4.4.4)?

But that still would be bootloader locked, right? Can we then use sunshine to unlock bootloader, or is this to new software?

Just jumped ships from sprint and got my facinate. Today rooted with one click and tried installing clock work. Thmanage rom manager. All seems well then suddenly my phone freezes for ten minutes I have to do a battery pull. Phone wont boot in anyway or form now. No lights or signs of life other than if I hold the power button as long as its pressed. A device labeled SEC S5PC110 Test B/D appears in device manager. And that'd all it will do. Thinking about exchanging it tomorrow afternoon. Just letting the community know what happened to me any thoughts as how or what happened might be able to help future mishaps
I'd try doing an odin flash. Just search the forums for the step by step. If u can get the phone into flash mode.
Yeah dude, definitely try Odin. Did you try flashing cwm from within ROM manager? I ask because that doesn't work for our phones yet, and it wouldn't surprise me if that could cause problems. I would use Odin to flash it back to stock, and then use the very thorough guide on here on how to get cwm going.

Hard for him to do a backup when he got bricked installing CWM LOL
Possibly bootlocked.
Newer Fascinates seem to be locked. Don't know if there is any way to tell which you've got without attempting a modification of the system....which would of course, result in the above nastiness....
I would think that if newer fascinates were boot locked, so would mesmerizes and I first flashed the stock files for Verizon on my phone then went to elements zinc (which is awesome BTW) installed voodoo 1200 kernel and everything is working great for me. Could just be that he got a bunk phone or something

I have been reading several forums, and it seems that quite a few people are in a hurry to unroot their phones in order to download the latest OTA update from HTC.
WHY WOULD YOU EVER WANT TO UNROOT JUST TO DOWNLOAD THE LATEST OTA ??
Why would you want to risk breaking your root, possibly permantly, just to install an update that is basically the same as the previous one and is going to bring some bugs with it? From what I am reading, the new update is not all that wonderful.
One of the purposes of any HTC OTA update is to break as many roots as possible and to patch the phones so that they cannot be rooted. And, if the bootloader is locked, which several people claim it is, your phone may never be rooted again, at least not perm rooted.
IF YOUR ROOT IS KILLED, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE FLASH YOUR FAVORITE LOOKING CUSTOM ROMS, YOUR CUSTOM ROM THAT MAKES YOUR PHONE RUN SO MUCH FASTER, THAT CUSTOM ROM THATS GIVING YOU THAT GREAT BATTERY LIFE,...
IF YOUR ROOT IS KILLED, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO CONTROL YOUR PHONE'S CPU, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RESTORE THAT BACKUP, THAT POSSIBLY SAVED YOUR PHONE, YOU WILL NOT HAVE ACCESS TO THAT FREE WIFI TETHERING, YOU WILL NOT BE ALBE TO DELETE THOSE UNWANTED APPS THAT ARE WASTING STORAGE SPACE ON YOUR PHONE, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO FREEZE ALL THOSE SERVICES THAT YOUR TASKMANAGER CANNOT TOUCH THAT ARE KILLING YOUR BATTERY,...
Sorry I wrote a book here, but it makes no sense to me. If you want to try Android 2.3, why not just download the rooted version and maintain your root along with its many advantages?

A lot of us unrooted prior to the update because we were expecting a hell of alot more than what we were given. I could have waited for one of the devs to give us a rooted version but it's like being given a present and told not to open it till tomorrow. Had I known the specifics of the update I definitely would have waited. All in all not a big deal though, they'll figure out how to root this soon until then I'll just piss and moan about this half ass update.

When you do that, you run that chance of an exploit never being found. That may very well be the case if you have S-ON.
The dissapointment in the leaked OTA wasn't enough to dissuade people i guess.

I unrooted because there was no reason for me to be rooted. The only benefit of rooting for me was to have the free wifi tethering.
When my wife did the latest OTA update she was getting 4g in places I didn't get it. Her phone was also downloading on 4g at 10 megs down using the speedtest.net app. With multiple roms I have never gotten above 2 megs down, when I unrooted and went stock I was getting faster and better 4g.
Every Rom I installed was buggy, So if I am going to deal with roms that don't work or take away features or burn your eyes in the dark I would rather just deal with the stock sprint phone. I am also fortunate enough to be able to afford the hotspot service from sprint so I would rather pay for reliable fast service.
These are the reasons I unrooted. I understand that everyone has their own reasons for what they do with their devices and I respect them please respect mine. I am just answering the question that was asked in this post.

I was tempted but I knew someone that was stock and I let him go first. I also knew everyone would be posting here. I now run the rooted Rom put out the same day the ota was released. Thank god I held on to my senses and waited for it.

I'm not unrooting anytime soon. Couple of reasons.
1.The big one is I'm not a huge fan of Sense.
2.All the bloatware that comes on the stock rom that slows it down, and takes up room.
3.For my battery!!!!
unrooted
Unrooted, tried out stock Gingerbread, rooted it again with rooting hormones.

I'm new to this root/flash etc and it has been fairly difficult getting my head around what it all means. Guides such as Intratech's http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671969 are extremely helpful and much appreciated but still aren't really for noob's like me who don';t know all the acronyms or processes. (and where is the THANKS button - I see the thanks scores in the side bar but be buggered if I can find the way to thank someone)
As an example of what I mean, a guide such as siberian tiger's http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1674286 clearly contains valuable info but I have no idea which ROM to choose or why there are so many different ones.
Also, where do you download them from?
I got often sidetracked while trying to find out things, and nowhere did I find a set-out process that didn't require considerable research to work out what was being said. But I eventually got to where, when my new SGS3 arrived, I was ready to try stuff on it.
First I rooted it. There was confusion here because it wasn't clear that CF Root was a part of a larger process that included CWM, but I found it in Chainfire's http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695238
Then my phone found an update - it's German market from Kogan so I went from i9300XXLEF to i9300XXLG8. I started in on removing the German stuff not vaild here but then realised I would be better doing what I originally wanted which was installing a stock Aussie ROM. First I tried out TriangleAway (with trepidation considering the rather dire warnings about bricks ) and it worked just fine, resetting my counter.
I then used CWM to run a backup of the system to my external SD.
So, using Odin I VERY carefully followed the process in Chainfire's guide.
All went well for a while...
Then the phone booted up and I got a message about Contacts not starting and then android.process.acore 'stopping'.
The heart missed a beat. I clicked OK, thinking (rather desperately ) 'it's OK, probably just a part of the set up process.'
Many clicks later, with the new system appearing in brief flashes in between 'acore' messages the gaps between heart beats became extremely long.
I forced it down (holding power for 10 secs) and started it again. 'It's better! It's going past the start up! it's...' BUGGER! there it is again!!!'
Searching frantically I found Faryaab's http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646610 thread with a lovely Youtube clip by TotallyDubbedHD (found at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8Tga_yKywc&feature=player_embedded
In it he mentions wiping the data, cache and dalvik cache. So I followed the clip and wiped them all, then ran the Odin process again.
Same result. Looking for paddles for heart-starting machine at this point.
AND I couldn't seem to boot into download mode any more. AND the Recovery mode was different now, with far fewer options. I tried using Recovery to Restore my backup - it found it, started to run it, then failed.
I'm not sure what the issue was with the Download option for start up, maybe in my distraught state I wasn't holding the buttons down properly or something, but after using the truncated version of recovery to wipe data and cache again, I finally got back into the Download... I went back to Odin and ran the latest German ROM - my reasoning was (not good at this point ) that maybe the phone needed the German stuff, even though I'd seen nothing about such problems in my 4 days of research on XDA. I also wondered if the Aussie ROM was corrupted...
The German one installed and started, but after about 1 minute I got the 'acore' msg again. Wondering how I was going to tell the missus I had broken my phone after less than 12 hours, and getting increasingly concerned about the lateness of the hour (as a PC support person I learned early never to do anything major after 10PM :lol I used the now restored Recovery mode to wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, then, with a prayer to the gods I don't believe in, I ran the Aussie ROM onto it again.
10 minutes later it started, sweet and fast, no errors, and no German-only icons.
I have a brand new, Aussie phone! I did some downloading of Apps to get it al back how I had it and went to bed.
I can't seem to do Thanks in threads (or even post in some of them yet) but I wish to thank wholeheartedly all those who spend so much time trying to document all the confusing issues involved for those of us learning a new language. It's been a bit of a slog but I'm getting there...
(I got to bed and told the wife, rather proudly, 'I broke my phone, AND I fixed it...'
I didnt root my phone, but i got the acore message too. Got shot of tthat & still my stock messages are still screwed. 100% agree that for a newbie nothing is crystal clear. "Search for this" "download that" not ideal wthen you are fretting on wether u just your phone up. Resisted the root, route until i see something that makes perfect sense.
The frustrating thing though, nobody believes you followed it to the letter, no matter how many times you explain it, simple stock flash (hence why i did it), even the wife cooda done that, but still had problems...still Think the 3 network was the culprit.
Get used to that feeling.....
I've been flashing phones since my x8 (had a Samsung galaxy 5, galaxy S1, nexus s, galaxy nexus and now the S3)
I've had plenty "I've definitely f*cked it now" moments.
To be honest those moments are half the fun of flashing stuff to phones.
Crackflashing is an addiction and those moments and when you sort them are like a really good hit.
Best way to learn is to make mistakes.

I made a few mistakes and bricked my previous phone, an Xperia Pro MK16i, and learnt in the process. Haven't had a heart stopping moment on my S3 yet *touches wood*
Having said that, it is thanks to the tireless community at XDA that has ebbed me on to take the (minor) risks in order to reap the (humongous) benefits of tinkering with my phone. So thank you all.

You reminded me the first time i tried to root my Galaxy S .
It was a disaster
The phone had stuck in the root screen(z4 root some will remember)
for over 20 minutes and i didn't know what to do.
I was searching the xda for an answer but nada.
I thought that's it you just spend 600e for a brand new phone and you destroyed it
I plugged the battery out went to bed and the other day with more clear mind i read all the guides for rooting from the start and voila i did rooted it my heart came again in the place where belongs
Don't hesitate to post in my thread your questions.I'll try to help as much as i can
Regards
Tiger

This is for those who has acore issue.
A little patience is require but basically you still can navigate around in the phone but very slowly as you can only navigate after you dismiss the force close message.
Go to your System Settings->Applications Manager

My first trail with flashing and rooting was on my mum's galaxy tab, it was a horrific experience since i might brick it at that time but it went without a problem.
After that i started flashing phones s1, s2 , s3 . But to be honest, without the help from the guys in this form i would have deff bricked many phones.
I had a few of these moments on my LG GT540 what worried me was I had no replacement phone, you will get used to them and learn how to solve them in no time.

Happy flashing there mate!
Anything you need ask or pm me,i like helping!
First android phone i ever flashed was my Galaxy S1...(btw i absolutely loved this phone!)
I remember i had bricked mine and it stayed in SAMSUNG logo,we had issues with the 3 button combo back then!
The bootloader wouldn't let me go to download mode to use ODIN!
I was sooooo sc***ed! xD
It was the most expensive phone i had ever bought and i freaked out!
Thank god we built a homemade jig with my informatics proffesor back then and we revived the damn thing!
Great guy..
Point is if it's a software error it's 99% fixable, even imei can be fixed!
(happened with mine... thank god i had a backup!)
The worst thing as an effect would be...losing your apps/settings?
So don't worry...
Don't worry everyone has had their ups and downs and for me that's a part of the beauty of modding (rooting/unlocking/...)
I still remember the bootloader unlocking of my HTC legend.
You needed burn an iso CD and set your BIOS of your PC to boot from CD then run that cd and connect your phone.
Before the process begun it stated (about 10times) that you should NOT disconnect your phone in any case. The fact they mentioned it so much made me kida worried.
But I took a deep breath and continued. You had to follow some steps answer some y/n questions and then you needed to boot your phone in fastboot
And time it so that you hit enter on your PC about 2sec after it booted into fastboot...
which I did..... but the script was still stuck on waiting... And the warning message was still there visible in the top of the script.
I started hitting enter again and again but that obviously didn't help.
After 30 min I realized there was nothing else I could do then unplugging the USB and pulling the battery. At that point I was convinced I just bricked my €450 phone.
You can't imagine how happy I was when I found out it still booted. So I rebooted my PC did some more research and tried again. And finaly after 2days and 10 attempts I got my unlocked bootloader. That victory feeling was o so great!
I must say things are getting easier for the end user and because of that it's partly losing it's charm. But it's nice too read your stories and see that some of you still experience that victory feeling!
that heart stopping moment is the best part of this crazy debranding flashing rooting customizing "thing" we so love to do and my experience wouldn't be complete without it. been at it since windows phones came out and i really think i wouldn't stop hahaha!
btw bricked a couple but jtag is always there to save us ass

OK, the difference between what I saw on the youtube and what was in the guide I used seems to have been the parts about (in Recovery) wiping the data and deleting cache and dalvik cache. I might be wrong and one of the gurus here could clear things up...
But deleting or changing Contacts was clearfly, in my case, not going to be a solution - Touchwiz was the first error and there were a couple of others.
Some history... I have been doing User Support and Desktop Help as well as Sysadmin since 1987. I am a noob to Android but definitely not to computers nor effing around with system partitions.I LIKED DOS and I can think my way through software issues with an aplomb that users have called for. In other words, I am not a nuff-nuff.
But the confusion generated by ST's Guide where I can just run CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4 or CF-SGS3-CWM-v5.5-v1.5 (forgive me if I am quoting the wrong poster for the thread) and then find threads telling me to install Android SDK so I can access ADB to root my phone is nothing short of awesome.
I rooted my phone. I tried to run the approved Aussie ROM on it, and then had to recover things so it would work. Did I miss a step? Was it that even though my PC recognised and allowed Odin access to my phone I should have first run Samsung USB drivers? Should I have found out what an 'Insecure kernel' is and installed one? WTF is an insecure kernel and what programs give you one if you DON'T want to run a DOS window and do command line commands?
In all the hundreds of ROMs, Kernels. and other installations presented here on site, what, as a Noob, should I be looking for? The version numbers don't mean much to me. I prefer to stay with an Aussie version but if there's a JB out there that makes my phone run better, longer, faster, I could give a flying eff when Telstra decides to update my phone... but apart from a thread offering 'buttery smooth' menu motions, none of the ROM's seem to have descriptions of WHY I should install them.
I have bought Titanium Backup and System Panel on recommendations of a thread about battery life that seems to have nothing to do with battery life but has some fascinating stuff in it anyway (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=471521&page=4 and I am backing up every time I make changes that I like, but some of these programs seem to duplicate what others do - e.g. there's a File Explorer download that offers rooting, kernel and ROM installs AND lots of file-type options, but given I have CF Root, CWM, Super SU, Titanium etc. why would I need another?
I am happy to learn. I don't mind paying for the work others have done. As the OP documents, I am willing to take a risk with my hardware to try things out.
But...
is there anywhere on here where anyone has done an Intro to Android systems?
Is there a Glossary somewhere to explain all the acronyms?
Has anyone done a step-by-step of what you replace and why to get a fully functional and fast phone?
Is there a location somewhere on site where the ROM's can be downloaded? (what I have seen is mostly references to ROM's with no links to how to find the MD5 file)
Is there somewhere on site where the features of particular ROM's is listed?
If I am rooted, what else do I need to be able to flash (say) the buttery smooth JB?
a good poem.
OP that was a good poem
you should commission a new book, 50 shades of rooting
nice read
I touch wood never hard bricked my phones. Toyed around with N900, installed android on maemo got in bit of a mess but thanks to maemo community got out of it.
Jailbroke both my iphone 4 and wife's 4S. Flashed few fws on Optimus 3D. Been installing custom FW on S3 since I got it in late May, thanks to indie who helped make the first custom rom for S3 and even not having S3 himself as world wide launch happened in June.
Anyway my worst moment came when i plugged my external 500 WD drive to S3 via OTG cable and drive was detected for little time but then disappeared. I plugged it in the pc to check it and it showed unrecognized usb device. I still thought it wasn't big deal and tried it on my NB and still same. After it didn't show up in any of my media players (a have a few) i got panicky. It had 2 years worth of data/movies/music/backups and was full to the brim.
I searched and searched on the net and the only solution some said was that the port might have got damaged and needs to be changed. Then found on youtube how to take it out of its casing and thought if i could just hook it to my pc with sata cable it will hopefully work.
I took it out and to my shock WD had soldiered some weird connector on it and it could only connect through it and the standard sata port wasn't there.
I had all but given hope and posted it on one website about this issue and found one nice old (self proclaimed) gentleman posted that i should try to put it in freezer overnight as i have nothing to lose. I thought what a joke but did put it in the freezer wrapped in thick plastic bag.
Next day i took it out and thought just might give it a try and plugged the drive in the pc and to my amazement and relief it came up with message of options of opening the device. WOW i must admit after 20+ years in IT, handling components biz, trading /selling of components, building PCs for others and myself I never heard about this tip. I can't thank that man enough and i did recover another drive by doing the same. Both are after 1+ months working fine

The heart-stopper is not the best thing - getting past it and fixing things is the best part. It may be that we wouldn';t enjoy the fixing as much without the previous heart-stopper but that 'oh, f**k' moment is still nothing to wish for...
@spaco22 - in 19876 I bought an XT PC so I could write my SciFi Novel. The pc took over my life and to this date I haven't done much more nthan occasional spurts of creativity in the writing field - did do some poetry though.
@Sak500 - the freezer trick has rescued a number of drives over my years. Including ones making the dreaded 'tick...tick...' noise. You were lucky - as a drive dies you get about 15 minutes to get the data off before it goes to god. And the freezer trick doesn't usually work twice... AND you need to put it in a sealed plastic bag... unlike a client of mine who sat it in their chest freezer and complained to me it didn't help and when I got there, there was still a small puddle of melt under the drive. :silly:
Mind you the best was a Manager who brought me his almost new laptop and told me it was warranty because it 'just stopped working' and when I took it out of the bag, and checked for physical case stress damage, found a car tyre track across the back of the case. Like Lenovo would warranty for running over the thing in a Territory...
In spite of my intro to all this, I am looking forward to the journey. Y'all could help by giving me reasons for my missus letting me flash her beloved GNote from United Emirates... *innocent look*
I've got a super pro tip: Backup the EFS partition!!!
Almost every other issue is solvable with a bit of digging on this forum. An EFS partition format would need the assistance of Samsung Service Centre personnel, and a good explanation as to how it came to be.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18524176 works for me. This is the first thing I did after rooting using CF-ROOT. Also, CF-ROOT is the safest "first thing" as it only flashes a new recovery image and no kernel nor any ROM.
Guides can only be made so noob friendly, so I'm afraid some acronyms and finger crossing are inevitable. My advice would be to read, read and read some more before attempting any actions that may brick your phone. Remember nandroid is your friend and as long as you read the threads and follow the instructions help will always be there.

Great tip and one I'd like to follow up on but the server hosting it seems not to be available.(see screenshot below) I'll check back and maybe look on google-play as well. Thanks.
@ghostofcain - been doing that. Check the screen shot of my Chrome window  But there comes a time when one must try some of the things one has been reading about and I'm enough of a sysadmin that I follow system instructions very precisely - had to rebuild a server once, unpaid, over the weekend, because I skipped a line in an upgrade process.
So when strange things happen, and you're trying to think without that reassuring 'thud-THUD' pulse that you don't miss until it isn't there, it isn't all that reassuring to know you've done all the right things, there's just a mad moment of internal panic when you second guess and try to blame and desperately, after long training in PC's, try NOT to touch ANYTHING until you understand what just happened.
Another question - can someone point me to the download area? It has been mentioned in a few threads and I have a PM telling me that is where ROM's etc can be found, but I can't seem to find a link to that page or server. Feel free to tell me I'm being dumb...
And weirdly, I found the thanks button in posts and I swear I looked there before and it wasn't there. Maybe you can't thank until you've posted or something?
I've often told my customers, 'if computers/windows behaved as they are meant to I wouldn't have had a job for the past 25 years...'
Hm... image doesn't show in preview... it's attached as well.

Once you learn all the Voodoo tricks to fixing half of your problems with Roms and Kernels.. or soft bricked devices, you'll be smooth flashing..till then you must go thru a few bricks, a few data wipes, a few crashes, and a few replacements

LOL... I can live with most of that - bricking and replacements I am trying to avoid. The missus will not look kindly on having to buy a new phone...:fingers-crossed:
Edit:
you annoying bastards did it
4.4.4 are live on the site as usual.
go download em https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/recovery-images
edit 2:
they are still missing the VRZ. but i think that is just red tape (red, get it?) from VRZ.
doesn't hurt to continue to bug them
edit 3:
sad that we had to annoy each other but it's finally complete. maybe next time don't include a annoy.timer setting with such lower timer in your OTA app :/ (it really has that name). or make it not jump in front of gps and calls... well i should learn not to use stock roms...
-----------------------
hi, if you also have a developer edition phone, and are pissed that morola only provides 4.4.2 and 4.2.2 images, making it impossible to restore a dev device back to stock for any reason, whithout a complex (and probably dev edition warranty voiding?) downgrade procedure, please, do bug them and ask for it.
the steps are:
1. open a chat (or call 1-800-734-5870 ) at https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/mcp/service/
2. mention that you have a developer device
3. say that the page at https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/recovery-images is impacting your device usage
3.b optional. you can mention the fact that being on stock 4.4.3 and being unable to update, you will get the 4.4.4 update warning every couple minutes, even on top of the GPS while you are driving!
4. mention that the page reads "to help owners return to the latest Motorola software." on the very first paragraph.
5. recall them that the latest motorola software is 4.4.4 or at least 4.4.3
do not give up until they say "i'm escaling this to L2." whatever that means
thank you! Only with lots of people bugging them they will do something about it.

UPDATE:
Well that was highly discouraging. After being told that unlocking my bootloader wouldn't void my warranty but that to flash one of the recovery images would require root and that would void my warranty (you can be sure I responded to that, LOL!), I was told that what's up there is what's up there and that they'd pass on my request to the appropriate party. LMAO. Basically, don't hold your breath. And people wonder why I'm getting a Nexus 6. I'm sick of companies treating unlocked devices as second class citizens. My S4 GPE has never seen an ODIN image. Officially, we've got recovery images that are 2 versions old for the GSM X DE. is that acceptable to anyone? It's not to me.

thanks for trying man! for me it was pretty smooth.
I did mention that i was on stock 4.4.3, installed on motorola themselves on my phone. I only had a custom recovery, because, well, that is the reason i got a developer phone. The rep never asked me if i rooted or not. because it is irrelevant as you know and mentioned above.
i'd try again later on. maybe you get a rep with a clue. either way, thanks again for trying.

Done deal!
Ooof.. hopefully Moto will realize that they need to do this as we'll need that to update to 5.0 if released!

Yea, unfortunately that doesn't help us GSM DE users. I'm incredibly frustrated. Well, it just strengthens my resolve to get a Nexus 6. At least with that I know the images will be posted by Google in a very reasonable timeframe. For my S4 GPE I have to make them myself which is equally frustrating. On the X GSM DE we may have to get to a point of a hybrid "FXZ" where we fastboot some partitions, reboot into custom recovery, and then flash a pulled system image. That just seems really wrong when it wouldn't take Moto very much to host the damn images for us.

Completely agree. That is one good thing about the nexus. You can count on those image files being released in a timely matter. Thanks again though for your work. Thanks for your time and tools. However, once I learned how to manually flash image files I left the toolkits alone. But if I was to use a tool I would trust yours.
Nothing has changed. I have it on good authority that this amounts to a bureaucratic oversight and will be taken care of ASAP.

No problem! Hopefully it will be soon. The person i spoke with used to do this personally and build and sign the zips himself but has delegated that to an underling who has had a full plate and hasn't gotten to it yet, unfotunately.
He assured me there had been no change in policy regarding the availability and posting of these files!

That is truly excellent news. I was very concerned since they only have 4.4.2 up there and 4.4.3 has been out for months now. Yes we've been able to get leaks until recently but we should be able to get them officially and the sbf site hasn't been updated since early September.

Not sure why you guys are praising nexus. My experience with N1 was awfull. stuck on 2.3 forever. zero support. hardware problems that should have been recalled completely ignored and dismissed by google and htc... well, i think i will have my opnion change when N4 gets 5.0 (which is it capable on hardware)
also, you are all ignoring the fact that the next nexus will be churned out by motorola. and will be a even bigger phablet than motoX2.

No problem! Hopefully it will be soon. The person i spoke with used to do this personally and build and sign the zips himself but has delegated that to an underling who has had a full plate and hasn't gotten to it yet, unfotunately.
He assured me there had been no change in policy regarding the availability and posting of these files!

nice! (assuming that policy was to provide more than two images...) will continue to bug them daily. so you can tell your friend to tell the underling to ask for a raise! management will surely say yes
Ive been a long time lurker on this site prolly since the GSII-- I dont post much then , or with me GSIII or Note 2- I guess thats why that account no longer exists. So with my purchase of the Note Edge i knew this would be my go to place for any information or eventually ROM's-- i gotta say that normally i never spent more then a day with Touchwiz- usually rooting and flashing within 24 hours of purchase. Ive had the phone foe about 4 days and.... HOLY MOLY this phone is slooow... so much crap is running-- 3gb of ram and 2 and half of it is always used-- sprint zone and fb keep updating and re downloading even though i continuously uninstall them daily and revert to original software versions. Now i finally understand peoples hatred towards touchwiz.. im used to ASOP-- I coulda swore touchwiz was NOT that bad in the GSII days ;-( although i have faith the dev. will take off eventually with this phone... if there were other options i might have considered going else where-- im coming from a rooted note2) But i dont think there is anything remotely better then samsung-- as bad ass as the phone is spec'd out to be i thought it would be as zippy as the nexus--- but it is most definitely slower then my note- Also since ive been ot of the loop this KNOX stuff is all new to me--basically from what i gathered by googling any root will void the warranty on the device? ive never ever sent a phone in to samsung but there is times ive gone to A Sprint tech center for help--will they turn me away if its 0x1? well i just wanted to stop by and say hi to this forum-- im beginning the process to acquire files so i can root my phone tonight-- id think the sky is the limit with the things we can do with out phones--- Much thanks to the DEV's that make this possible!!
Well your sprint one seems to be acting funny.. I'm on my T-Mobile Note Edge, and I started from the G1. This phone is really smooth, no errors, and for the first time really no reason for me to have to root my phone and get rid of bloat ware to speed things up! And that was before I disabled the bloat ware anyways. You could say I'm also waiting for a way to root without tripping Knox. I'm kinda curious how ASOP or CyanogenMod will look like on this phone, and if they'll be able to use the edge productively. I'm actually throughly pleased with the phone, especially with how the home launcher is setup. My only bug is the fact that the second favorite edge doesn't allow for reorganization. That's my 2 cents. I hope your experience becomes more enjoyable

Let me restate...i kinda sounded like a whiney brat with my last/first post. I realize that we as a group aa the less then 1% that care about specs.. and ver numbers. Im just not used to TouchWiz trying to do everything for me yet not the things i want it to do. for example every time I touch it text entry field I have a keyboard icon on the top of the notification bar...prompting me to choose Input method EVERYTIME?!? everyday I get sprint zone adverts in my notification bar even though I uninstall it every night before bed.. and multiple times a day I'm asked if I would like to sign in for Picasa.. i say no 3 or 4 times a day.. i cant figure out how to delete it. I miss the custom roms where all this bs is not even installed. Granted i knew there wasn't much support when i took the jump.. and honestly these issues would be the same with the regular note 4... id most definitely be willing to throw some $ to a recocognized established dev out there ... im miss my paranoid android and illusion roms :-/ but i know nothing out there can compare to the note edge at the moment...!
I have none of the issues you speak of. My only real issue is with kit Kat since I can't write to my sd card but other than that I am good with my phone.
I'm using the AT&T stock version and haven't encountered any issues except I waited to long to send it back to get the white version. Lol. Other than that I like the device.

root it and strip the rubbish and bloat, was da matta you?!
mine was slow and lagged like crazy from all the "indexservice" and annoying samsung crap running. i stripped it all and use CM cleanmaster and battery doctor. no autostarting apps and no bloat like weather and yahoo finance...
titanium backup to freeze or remove crap.
mine (915p sprint):

even better
All those fixes are for rooted phones, i have not yet taken the plunge. I rooted my wife's note 4 but have just been hesitant to do my edge. I thought I was going to wait on lollipop but might not make it
Welp... enjoy your refusal
I wish there was a step by step thread on how to root the Sprint Edge and not any other variants because I don't wanna mix things up and brick my phone.

Does that include either custom recovery?. Is there one that is prefered to the other.

I usually use CWM, but that's only because it's old school. Right now I chose not to install it in the last step of that thread because I have never used TWRP before. I have to say that I like the touch interface.
Besides getting the sprint variant of auto root you also need the sprint variant of TWRP. I posted a guide with basic steps including getting private mode working with xposed
For those that are here to help, thanks for pointing me to where I need to go, for those that posted about my needing to read, maybe you should spell check your snyde remarks before posting........lol
Sometimes its easier to answer a question and move on than to waste yours and my time. Yours by typing and not helping and mine by reading and not getting an answer.
