Hi, is it possible to use a android phone as gamepad ?
With any app or any other way ??
The guys from Beach Buggy Racing (Vector) showed off new api's from Google at the GDC 15 just last week using phones and tablets in split screen so it is coming very soon. I sent them an email this morning asking when it'll be released/updated, so as soon as I hear back I'll let you know.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Free mobile app
DroidMote (Server & Client)
Yea, you can install DroidMote Server (Paid) on the Nexus Player and install DroidMote Client on your smartphone. The client app has an emulated gamepad built-in. It allows changing the key-layout, so you can upload the 'Asus Game Controller' key-layout to make it work with games on the Nexus Player.

Can you provide a copy of the key layout file (if you have one) for the Asus game controller?

I don't have the file for the key layout, but here's the 'Button Mappings' of the Asus game controller. You can follow Droidmote's own tutorial on how to update the key layout (search on youtube "DroidMote Key Layout Customization").
Good luck and here's the button mappings:
D-Pad (UP) = AXIS_HAT_Y(-)
D-Pad (DOWN) = AXIS_HAT_Y(+)
D-Pad (LEFT) = AXIS_HAT_X(-)
D-Pad (RIGHT) = AXIS_HAT_X(+)
A = KEYCODE_BUTTON_A
B = KEYCODE_BUTTON_B
X = KEYCODE_BUTTON_X
Y = KEYCODE_BUTTON_Y
L-Analog (UP) = AXIS_Y(-)
L-Analog (DOWN) = AXIS_Y(+)
L-Analog (LEFT) = AXIS_X(-)
L-Analog (RIGHT) = AXIS_X(+)
L-Analog (PRESS) = KEYCODE_BUTTON_THUMBL
R-Analog (UP) = AXIS_RZ(-)
R-Analog (DOWN) = AXIS_RZ(+)
R-Analog (LEFT) = AXIS_Z(-)
R-Analog (RIGHT) = AXIS_Z(+)
R-Analog (PRESS) = KEYCODE_BUTTON_THUMBR
L-Bumper = KEYCODE_BUTTON_L1
R-Bumper = KEYCODE_BUTTON_R1
L-Trigger = AXIS_LTRIGGER(+)
R-Trigger = AXIS_RTRIGGER(+)
Back = BACK
Home = HOME
Power (CENTER) = KEYCODE_BUTTON_MODE

i am looking to buy the touch dual but wasn't sure if i should go for the 20 key version or the 16 key version,
anybody give any advice?
I've had both but prefer the 16 key version by far. It's difficult learning a new key layout for one handed input (qwerty) and having the 4 app/launcher/utility buttons is a big benefit over the 20 key version.

thanks for your opinion
this seems to be personal preference. i'm using a 20-key version and very happy with it, because having one button mapping to fewer letters makes it much faster to get to my desired word in t9 input and address book search. yet, surely need to pay some effort to get used to it. just for your reference.
I used 20Key with program "AE Button" to map some keys for different application so it can get both advantage into one phone.

so did you manage to map any of the keyboard keys to other programs using AE Button or just the normal hardware buttons (camera, vol up, vol down)?
With the France SFR version, we have no choice 20 keys
My previous model was a Nokia NGage DQ, so jumping from phone keyboard like to computer keyboard like implies some time training.
But with the soft keyboard and the hard one we have the choice

Im looking at upgrading my wifes Nokia E65 to the Touch Dual.
Interesting point about the 16 v 20 key versions.
She likes to SMS so i guess that the 16 key with 4 app/launcher/utility buttons should suit her.
How many of you, use the software keyboard over the hardware keys?
Has someone tried to remap the calendar and messaging keys to soft keys. So it's no more necessary to press on the screen?
i use aebutton plus, http://ae.inc.ru
to remap one of the per key combos to left and right softkeys.
it works.
Plus you get 4x (or if you include the opt, 5x) remaps per hardware button.
Some minor anomalies though, due to the opt + hardware button OS level remap, two keys don't allow full remapping (4x instead of 5x)- the start and ok buttons.
The rest are ok. Hope this is not confusing.
I also use AeButtons - Awesome app.
My 'Start' button: 1 click = Start Menu, 2 click = Left Softkey.
My 'OK' button: 1 click = OK, 2 click = Right Softkey

Can you run this together with MagiKB, or does AeButtons replace all functionality of MagiKB?

Yes, you can run AeButtons along side MagiKB and PQZII aka Cntrl Key Pro,
I'm running all 3 and have had no issues.
AeButtons Does Not replace MagiKB.
Each app has features that I use.
I've had AeButtons since my first PPC.
Now I run all 3 - thanks to TC, levinda, you, and others who helped out in this thread:

Hello Guys,
How can i add an ongoing notification with 2 or 3 buttons... play stop next !?
Something like this
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
...When i tap a button i want to do an url post.
android 4+
Thanks
Its actually very easy to just add an expandable button to the bottom of your notification (android 4.1+ only I believe):
Code:
Intent mIntent = new Intent();
mIntent.setClass(context, MyClass.class);
PendingIntent mPendingIntent = PendingIntent.getService(context, 0, mIntent, PendingIntent.FLAG_UPDATE_CURRENT);
mNotificationBuilder.addAction(R.drawable.icon, "Test", mPendingIntent);
This call will simply add a button at the bottom of the layout with a little icon called "icon" from your drawables, the text "Test" next to it, and when clicked on will take you to the class that you set as the pending intent.
you can add up to 3 of these (i believe, someone correct me if i'm wrong) per notification.
To get layouts that have buttons on the side (or anywhere other then just under the actual notification) is little trickier though. you'll have to create a layout and then use remote views to get the job done and I dont have an example for that! check out here at the bottom of the page though and it talks about using remote views a little bit. Just be careful with the layout that it will work for different screen sizes and devices!
as for an ongoing notification, here is what you want to call:
Code:
mNotificationBuilder.setOngoing(true)
its also a good idea to set priority for ongoing notifications in my opinion so that they appear where you want them to in the drawer.
Code:
mNotificationBuilder.setPriority(Notification.PRIORITY_MIN); // there are lots of options other then PRIORITY_MIN as well to check out
Hope that helps get you started!
@klinkdawg what you are describing are the action buttons which appear below the notification. In the Google Music app the play/stop buttons are embedded within a custom notification design. You can set a RemoveView with your layout with SetContent function:
http://developer.android.com/refere...er.html#setContent(android.widget.RemoteViews)
However all this good stuff is only available in API level 11+, and the notification with bigger content in API level 16+.
How would I show a map in an activity with a customized marker that shows the current location of the device?
If you're planning to use Google Maps, it's pretty easy: https://google-developers.appspot.com/maps/documentation/android/
And for the device location: http://developer.android.com/training/location/retrieve-current.html

Look into using a MapFragment.
Stick one in your layout;
Code:
<fragment
class="com.google.android.gms.maps.MapFragment"
android:id="@+id/myMap"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"/>
Then in the onCreate of your activity, get a handle to the fragment and then get the map as a GoogleMap object from there;
Code:
final MapFragment mapFragment = ((MapFragment)getFragmentManager().findFragmentById(R.id.myMap));
final GoogleMap googleMap = mapFragment.getMap();
When you have the GoogleMap instance, it's easy to set positions and markers;
Code:
final LatLng position = new LatLng(100, 100);
map.setMyLocationEnabled(true);
map.moveCamera(CameraUpdateFactory.newLatLngZoomposition, 10));
map.addMarker(new MarkerOptions().title("Some place of interest").position(position));
Hope this helps.
Thank you so much! Going to play with it later today and see what I can produce!

Cool, remember that you need to get you API key's sorted to get it to work.

How do I do that (sorry so new to this whole thing)... Do you mean I need to apply for an API key?
Ok I have attached what I worked out in a zipped project file below this post, what it produces is this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Close, but no actual map is displayed... where did I go wrong?
Thanks for all the help
never-mind it appears I have fixed it ... what I did;
was missing a bunch of code, and the keystone had to match the one that was given to google api, I also had to enable the api from google develper control panel.
Seems to be working now! I am going to keep on tinkering with it, but this is the first map activity I have created... yaaaay
I have FireStick 4K, and it works great.
I have this remote:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
And it works great, now i am interested in this remote:
But i am a couple of questions:
1. Will all buttons works great?
2. Can i change some buttons, for example netflix button to kodi or youtube
3. Can tv button just change imput to tv and that simply it?
If your 4k stick is on a recent firmware all the buttons will work.
Only buttons '1'+'2' can be reprogrammed. The channel buttons can't be officially reprogrammed. A couple can be reprogrammed unofficially.
The TV button takes you to the LiveTV app in FireOS.
Personally I don't think the cost of that remote is worth it. At this point it's more expensive that the 4k Stick itself.
If you root the 4k Stick and use the Exposed Edge app, you can can remap all the buttons on your current remote. Including double taps and long button presses, on screen shortcuts, recent apps.
But you won't get the remote finder, BT listening and backlit buttons, if that's what you are primarily after.
Thank you for your answer.
What is most annoying for me is when i want to chance imput from firestick to tv, i must get tv remote to press this, i wanted this on firestick remote. Thats most annoying from me.

If mainly want to change the HDMI / input port you should already be able to do that with your current remote.
Go through the FireOS settings / equipment control setup. This will teach the FireTV how to switch HDMI ports. Then you can press the Alexa/voice button and say 'switch to HDMI2' or 'switch to TV' etc
How to switch TV inputs with the Fire TV or Firestick remote
Among the discussions of the new Fire TV remote that was just released, several people said they wished that Amazon added an input button for changing their TV's input.
