I have been using my nook color for over a year now. I tried to boot it in android using an sd card method.
Now when i switched it on after a few days it will power up, show the read forever logo and then the screen goes black.
I thought maybe the bootloader is gone or something. So I prepared an sd card with cyanogenmod in an attempt to flash it internally.
Even then when I press the power button it turn on, shows the loading screen and the screen goes black.
When I do this for seven times then the factory reset screen appears but when i select the factory reset it just gets stuck there and nothing happens. I left it there once for over an hour to see if something happens but without any luck.
Is there any solution for this or my nook is bricked completely??

So as the title says i currently have MIUI 1.6.10 demonSPEED v1.1 ROM and it is not booting, just completely unresponsive to everything i could think of. Im just throwing this out there to see if this has happened to anyone before or if there is a way of fixing this issue. I don't believe it has anything to do with thederekjay's rom just some unfortunate event. Anyway i fear it is possibly bricked and that i am gonna have to shell out the $150 to get a new mt4g from the insurance. Details follow...
So have had this rom for about a week now and has been working great. However this morning i was on the browser reading the news and it became unresponsive. After i let its display turn off (i just left it alone) i used the track pad to wake it. It was slow but it did show me the lock screen. When i attempted to unlock with a swipe down i felt the vibrations but the slide lock didn't budge. I then tapped the power button to turn the display off and tapped the power button once again to turn it on but nothing, just stayed black. I tried a soft reset by removing the battery, placing it back in, and powering back up. When i did so the t-mobile mytouch 4g boot image w/ the white background came on then went to an android image (lighting up a through d, looping) but then it just remained at the android image for five minutes! So i tried a soft reset again but the same thing would happen, act like it was gonna boot up completely but then gets stuck at the android image. So then i tried removing the battery and booting into recovery (via power, vol down, trackpad) that time the t-mobile mytouch 4g image would appear but after that the screen went black and after that every attempt with either the soft reset or boot into recovery wouldn't do anything at all, just a black screen as if the battery wasn't in at all. Its been like that all day and i can't figure it out so if anyone knows some info i would greatly appreciate it thanx
Have a nook color, cm7 - screen will not light. Power will cut on and off (i can tell because volume buttons produce noise when on). Screen gives no illumination when on.
Nothing software or programming updated or changed that would have caused it. I've charged it overnight and attempted to cut on while plugged in.
Plugged back into laptop via USB and I can see (nook color icon with yellow exclamation point) but still no screen.
I'm at a loss. Searched all posts but cannot find one similar. Thx!
I know that this happens and is fixable, although I cannot remember where I saw the "official" fix. If you have nandroid backups on a SD card, you could hard reboot the nook with the 8x reboot, and then reflash CWM and restore your backup.
Are you willing to lose your data and temporarily revert to stock?
I'll give anything a try.
Thanks for the idea. I'll try this in the morning and repost. I had thought about hard booting and taking it back but was worried they wouldn't replace it since it had been rooted. I'll go back and research the steps you mentioned. I'm not a techie so it will take a fresh mind and some coffee to pull it off. I was beginning to think it was a bad screen.
Power off nook, and power it back on. As soon as it begins to load, press n, power, and volume+ (I learned it with both volume keys, but I just heard it may only need the +) and hold for about ten seconds. The nook will flash off, release buttons. The nook will automatically restart, so after you release the keys, you want to repress them gain right as it starts to boot (where you would normally see the cyanogen logo). After the eigth time it will load into froyo firmware. If you. Misstime the sequence you will need Ronstadt over, so if it doesn't work the first time, just try again. Maybe a dark room, so you can see the slight illumination somewhat.
Bad screens do happen, I suppose, but the nook is unbrickable from a software standpoint. The primary boot is off the sdcard, so there is always a way to circumvent or preempt anything that may be corrupted internally. If you were to have a bad screen, after you hard reboot the nook, it will load the stock OS, but if you flashed CWM internally that will still be in your emmc. The way to get rid of the CWM is to follow the hard reboot with a factory reset through the froyo menu (standard nook OS for any future readers). If your screen is indeed bad, you can take your chances that they wont notice since they are replacing an obvious hardware issue, or you could hold it next to a working nook and base your touches approximately off that. There aren't that many steps, but you.do have to go through the B&N registration process, and your user name and password would be a *****.
I might just hard reboot and roll the dice myself, although I haven't personally heard of a bad screen yet. Good luck.
Solution worked!!
Thanks so much.....I couldn't get the 8x to work because the screen was not on and I couldn't time it right. The only way I could tell if it was on or off was with the power button making noises. So I held down power and N button together until flash. After the flash the cm7 open screen popped up. woot woot. and many thanks but I can only push the button once.
Hello:
As stated above, I've a NST 1.1 succesfully rooted with TouchNooter 1.11.20
It has worked fine for months, and it was working fine today:
The device was switched off
I turned it on
I read some with CoolReader
I switched it off
Later on (3 hours or so) I turned it on and since then it's stuck on the start screen, the one that says "nook tm by Barnes & Noble" and has a line of five dots below.
The black dot cycles through the white dots.
If I try to restart it using the power button, the screen flashes and then remains there, never pasing through the "Read forever" screen.
If I simply wait, the screen freezes, displaying "nook tm by Barnes & Noble" with the black dot in one of the five dots below, no longer cycling. If I then try to restart it using the power button, the screen flashes and then remains there, cycling through the white dots, never pasing through the "Read forever" screen... and then it freezes after a while.
If (with screen frozen or not) I try to use the power -> screen flash -> hold down left + right lower buttons it remains in the same screen.
If (with screen frozen or not) I plug it through USB to my PC it will flash the screen, the black dot cycling through the white dots; I do gain r/w acces to the local drive and SD Card
After removing the SD Card, I've tried all of the above, with no change.
So: it doesn't complete the start up and I can't shut it down completely.
Any suggestins on how may I unbrick my NST?
Awaiting your kind reply,
I have the strangest damn problem on my phone. Sometimes, when I press the power button to turn the screen off, the phone just shuts down completely and then when I try to reboot won't get past my splash screen. When this first happened I couldn't get the phone restarted at all, even by taking the battery out and waiting for over 10 minutes. Everytime I tried booting it would go to the splash screen and then blank back off. It would do this once and then I had to remove and replace the battery just to get it to boot to the splash screen again. I thought this might have something to do with having a custom rom installed (sacs custom), so I played around with the phone and managed to get it in Odin mode. I then brought the phone back to stock. Everything worked so I figured I had fixed it, but then after pressing the power button one time I got back the same problem. It shutdown and would not restart past the splash screen. In retrospect, I think when I pressed the power button the screen did not immediately go off and so I clicked it a couple times in a row before it crashed, that may be what triggers it, b/c sometimes i press the power/screen button and it goes off without incident.
So, now I had the phone back to stock and had the same problem. It turned off and would not boot past the splash screen. By a stroke of good fortune I figured out how to get the phone booting again past the splash screen. When the splash screen came up, I started repeatedly touching and swiping at the phone; drawing little circles tapping at it, etc... When I did this the phone continued to load and boot up normally.
I installed AVG antivirus, to see if maybe there was malware on my phone. Scans showed nothing. I updated all of the software as well. I now have an app installed for turning off the phone instead of using the power button. This of course is not an ideal situtation, why should pressing the power button crash my phone like this??
So i once took my phone to charge before going to bed and the next morning the screen was just black and the phone was "dead". The screen was black, nothing reacting. Rebooting was possible, but screen still black. I went through a whole night trying to figure out whats wrong and lastly i flashed the stock rom using the recovery tool and accidently ended up locking the bootloader with a non working screen.
Today the replacement screen arrived, i connected the new one, restarted the phone and still its just the screen lighting up a few seconds then turning off as soon as the redmi should appear. It does look like its not the screen but still something in the software. Is there anything i can still do to rescue the phone or is it just dead?
greetings

Try going into the stock recovery mode through hardware buttons (Hold Vol+ and Power) and try and factory reset.
