so i use the apple eaerbuds for listening to music and talking, but the only button that is working is the middle one wich i can accept calls; play/pause music, skip racks on double cliking, etc
i just want to find a way to make the two other buttons work, for ex it will be good if the up and down buttons change the volume.
now i read online that the apple earbuds are made differently from all others and dont work properly on android devices.
my question is can i tweak this thing with some kind of software or something????
No, it's a hardware issue, Apple uses a different method than standard phones for volume control, you are better off buying other earbuds, or use the ones that came with the note. If it's the style you like do a quick google search and you will find many reasonably priced headsets with a similar got and style

Apple standard is CTIA, Samsung standard SHOULD be OMTP - my previous Android phones had this standard, that's why I'm guessing but I never bothered to check
You can buy an adapter for a couple of dollars, if your headphones are worthy, but since we're talking about apple earbuds I wouldn't bother
There's the Sennheiser MM 30G (ones I use) or the pricer Bose SoundTrue in-ear headphones that gives you volume buttons on the cord that work with Samsung devices
Ok thnx a lot for your opinions.

All,
I have an HTC Desire, and I don't like the standard wired headphones that come with it. I find them uncomfortable at best. It also provides no volume control. Coming from the iPhone world myself, I am a bit disappointed...
I've searched for alternatives, but after reading every thread on this forum or AndroidForums on this topic, it appears clear that:
1. There is no wired headphones with 3.5mm jack that will allow pause/play/next/prev/vol-up/vol-down/answer-call functionality on HTC Android or Android in general. Not a single one!
2. There is no wired headphones with 3.5mm jack that will allow pause/play/next/prev/answer-call functionality on HTC Android or Android in general, apart from the original HTC ones, which I don't like. Not a single alternative! (Compare that to Apple's numerous alternatives...)
3. The iPhone compatible headphones or headsets are not compatible with Android, apart from play/pause and sometimes next functions.
4. Bluetooth headsets can be used as an alternative, but are not ideal due to non-optimal sound quality, drops, interference and battery drain. Not an option for me.
Very very disappointing :-(
Given that the iPhone-compatible headsets and the original HTC remote have the exact same standard 3.5 mm connector, I'm wondering why no-one's built an application for the Android that would effectively make the iPhone headsets compatible.
Does anyone know why that woudn't be possible?
Is someone up to the challenge? (unfortunately I'm not much of a programmer myself)
I am also wondering about this issue. I am coming from an iPhone and want to use the volume controls on my Android phone.
If you want to use the IPhone headphones go back to your precious iPhone, are you too lazy to use the on screen controls? Not flaming just seems pretty lame to complain about how your iPhone headphones don't work with Android....obviously it wasn't so important because you would have researched it before buying your Android.

I would also like that functionality on my phone. It would be great when I'm running. I just bought a new headset and it is iphone compatible.
This has nothing to do my "precious iphone", I've never even owned one. No need to be nasty and I'm really tired of all this attitude for or against iphones. Just a bunch of snobbery either way. I tried an iphone. Though I prefer to be using android I think the apple os is more slick and polished.
I would like this too. Nothin to do with the iPhone itself. Great headphones.

You can't flame someone and then defend yourself by saying you aren't.
It's a feature I too would love. I don't know if there is a universal specification or if the Apple implementation is entirely proprietary. I know the hardware on most Android phones supports it.
I bought some ibeats from best buy all excited of course, came home and unbox'd them. Apparently the headphones with the talk control in them sound like there's is a major Flanger effect in them unless you press the talk button.
and i tried it with the AT&T xperia's which were at best buy tried different pair and they sound exactly the same.
Anyone else out there using dre. beats with there xperia without any problems
I can only use the ones from x10 to get good sound others dont work on x10

My Solos never worked with my Xperia. Infact neither did regular iPod headphones. Quite annoying.

If you get the ones without the mic they should work fine.. tried it with a whole bunch of headphones so that I could choose the right one (ended up with Denon D1001 - great set, esp with X10)
Yeah, Sony switched the contacts around on the plug compared to how everyone else does it.
Should work ok if you plug the headphones into the clicker instead of directly into the phone. Well, the headphone part will anyways.

if your headphone has a mic, ie with 3 bands on your jack, it won't work. apparently , sony has its own thing concerning mic, but the regular 3.5 mm jack, with just 2 bands, it should work just fine.
The headphones I got with my Wildfire ****ed up, and I made use of them a lot with that double tapping button to change the song.
Now I got regular headphones, and in class I can't change or pause songs because if our teacher sees us with phones he takes them for a week or so.
Anyways, would it be possible/ or is there a music application that would let me pause/change song with the volume buttons?
Double tapping/triple etc.
You can get spares in htcs acessory store and the Samsung ones also work and sound better. I don't think the ipod ones do

I am using some headphones designed for the iphone (Zagg smartbuds) and they work on the wildfire. I don't know about double tapping to change the song... Never used it, but il try it and see if it works.
EDIT: My Zagg headphones, when double pressing the button, it calls the last number that I called.

Thanks.
I don't feel like paying $30 for a pair of headphones right now.
Astro Player from the Market has the capability, but, I havent personally tested it.
You may be able to get some cheap ones with the clicker from tesco / play / amazon

as people have said the headphones are iphone compatible, i have just ordered an iphone 3.5mm mic and headset adapter, for $6 off ebay, that i can then plug my monster beats into and have quality sounds and controls as well.
Can someone who already has an SGS II, test and comment on whether headphones with a mic *and* music controls (eg play/pause/ff/rw) work?
I have a pair of Moda's that don't work with my Atrix...it's the main annoyance I have with it...
yes it has mic but no music conrol.

I'm not asking about the standard headphones that ship with the SGS II. I'm asking someone with an SGS II to test aftermarket headphones that have the controls.
I think it same as original galaxy s, the media button for aftermarket earphone will not work with this phone, samsung 3.5mm jack really special...
Question...
Hey, for those already with SG2, can I use my iPod headphones w/ mic with this handset?
Please let me know, thank you.,

If possible also specify the exact make and model. There's at least two different pin-out for headsets (iPhone style and Nokia style) and at most one of those will work properly with any given Android phone.
I am wondering this as well. I'm hoping its the Iphone style so I can use my Etymotic HF-2's, or any other decent head set with this phone. I am thinking there is a good chance it is the Iphone style, seeing as that what the Nexus S had, but it would be nice for someone to confirm and not just speculate.
Thats shyttt... No audio controls with the Headphone? I gotta pull the phone out every time to switch the track?
WTF? this costs as much as an iphone and the headphones doesnt have music controls? that sucks bigtime!
oh stop whining! Samsung is just giving you an extra reason to admire that beautiful screen.

yup it sucks
don't buy this phone and get yourself an iphone
Don't matter to me as I don't use cheap phones. Custom shelled iem. Please don't tell me you folks use Dre BEATS, what a ripoff. I see alot of iPhone users using them and I just laugh. Got ripped off by apple and then by Dre. People are like sheep being led to the slaughter house.
Music controls, just what I don't need, another component in the way of my Galaxy pushing that Vodoo.

no, samsung uses 3 layer audio, while apple only uses 2, the headphones wont even sound right, youll need to ducttape the apple call button down permanently to have good sounding audio

when you say "samsung uses..." is that in reference to this device in particular, or Samsung in general? Have you tested the SGSII headphone jack yourself? Thanks for the info btw.
Oh you guys are silly!
I haven't tried headphones with music controls yet (gonna have to fish around for my old HTC's) but try double clicked and triple clicking the button on the one's Sammy give you. For me it skips tracks (at least in Spotify) and has done on all versions of Gingerbread I've tried.
I'm using the Griffin iTalk so I can answer calls and skip tracks with a decent set of 'phones.
htc desire's headphone works perfectly.
i use the bose MIE2 mobile phone headset with inline mic and single button, costs 140 bucks and the quality is superb on these things. its designed for generic mobile phones, and works just fine on the nexus one and most other phones that support the standard.
are we saying teh galaxys s2 will not support this? it just uses a single button, double tap to FF, triple tap to RW, etc. and then single tap to answer a call, pause music, etc. best headset ever to get for your phone. i'd imagine this would have to work with samsung, how could they leave this out when all other phones support this?
Tested with Ultimate Ears 5vi which are iPhone compatible.
With default music player only play/pause (single press) and next track (double press) works, this was tge same as the Nexus S.
PowerAmp has a setting to enable triple press which skips to previous track. This app is worth the cost as it has settings to customise the player anyway you could want. Best feature is auto resume on A2DP connect, when getting in the car no need to remove phone from pocket or bag or touch cars music controls, plays from where it left off

How very odd, I got my old headphones that I used with my SGS 1 and on my SGS2 I now need to hold down the call answer button to get good audio !
How can i use apple earbuds with ideos x5 because when i connect them i hear a tic tic and neither the microphone works....?
The same as Meizu EP20.
How to solve it?
Apple headsets have different TRRS wiring than one supported by this phone (actually I think that Apple wanted to differentiate itself even in this). There are adaptors sold that convert ground and mic (if I remember correctly these two are wired differently in in Apple headsets compared to regular) but result isn't guaranteed; it may or out may not work. You can find more information on the net, just search for Apple TRRS.
Oh, one more thing, I don't think that this is solvable by any software. It's a built-in TRRS plug.

but then how all the other earbuds working with ipod if it uses a differcet connection earbuds???
It has something to do with the placement of the rings on the jack (Standard = 2 rings, + mic = 3 rings)
My Jabra headset with mic doesn't work with the Huawei but it does with the Dell Streak, Palm Treo Pro and Iphone 4.
Also when I was searching I found that there were a lot of headsets which would not properly work with the Palm (but I never tried them with the Dell and or Iphone)
The best thing you can do is just to go to the phone/media stores and ask them if they want to test the headset with your device. You know when it all works correctly if the music you play sounds as it should be (no cracking noises through the ear buds etc.)
Hope this helps and good luck! =)

I think that Apple has grown into so big mover&shaker of electronics world that to manufacturers it's more profitable to go with their standard, than the regular one. Take stereo sets for example, every other has iPod-integration(I've been looking for a new one so I know, and it kinda pisses me off; why not micro-usb-integration with universal holder??)
