I bought some ibeats from best buy all excited of course, came home and unbox'd them. Apparently the headphones with the talk control in them sound like there's is a major Flanger effect in them unless you press the talk button.
and i tried it with the AT&T xperia's which were at best buy tried different pair and they sound exactly the same.
Anyone else out there using dre. beats with there xperia without any problems
I can only use the ones from x10 to get good sound others dont work on x10

If you get the ones without the mic they should work fine.. tried it with a whole bunch of headphones so that I could choose the right one (ended up with Denon D1001 - great set, esp with X10)
Yeah, Sony switched the contacts around on the plug compared to how everyone else does it.
Should work ok if you plug the headphones into the clicker instead of directly into the phone. Well, the headphone part will anyways.

if your headphone has a mic, ie with 3 bands on your jack, it won't work. apparently , sony has its own thing concerning mic, but the regular 3.5 mm jack, with just 2 bands, it should work just fine.

The headphones I got with my Wildfire ****ed up, and I made use of them a lot with that double tapping button to change the song.
Now I got regular headphones, and in class I can't change or pause songs because if our teacher sees us with phones he takes them for a week or so.
Anyways, would it be possible/ or is there a music application that would let me pause/change song with the volume buttons?
Double tapping/triple etc.
You can get spares in htcs acessory store and the Samsung ones also work and sound better. I don't think the ipod ones do

I am using some headphones designed for the iphone (Zagg smartbuds) and they work on the wildfire. I don't know about double tapping to change the song... Never used it, but il try it and see if it works.
EDIT: My Zagg headphones, when double pressing the button, it calls the last number that I called.

I don't feel like paying $30 for a pair of headphones right now.
Astro Player from the Market has the capability, but, I havent personally tested it.
You may be able to get some cheap ones with the clicker from tesco / play / amazon

as people have said the headphones are iphone compatible, i have just ordered an iphone 3.5mm mic and headset adapter, for $6 off ebay, that i can then plug my monster beats into and have quality sounds and controls as well.
Can someone who already has an SGS II, test and comment on whether headphones with a mic *and* music controls (eg play/pause/ff/rw) work?
I have a pair of Moda's that don't work with my Atrix...it's the main annoyance I have with it...
yes it has mic but no music conrol.

I'm not asking about the standard headphones that ship with the SGS II. I'm asking someone with an SGS II to test aftermarket headphones that have the controls.
I think it same as original galaxy s, the media button for aftermarket earphone will not work with this phone, samsung 3.5mm jack really special...
Question...
Hey, for those already with SG2, can I use my iPod headphones w/ mic with this handset?
Please let me know, thank you.,

If possible also specify the exact make and model. There's at least two different pin-out for headsets (iPhone style and Nokia style) and at most one of those will work properly with any given Android phone.
I am wondering this as well. I'm hoping its the Iphone style so I can use my Etymotic HF-2's, or any other decent head set with this phone. I am thinking there is a good chance it is the Iphone style, seeing as that what the Nexus S had, but it would be nice for someone to confirm and not just speculate.
Thats shyttt... No audio controls with the Headphone? I gotta pull the phone out every time to switch the track?
WTF? this costs as much as an iphone and the headphones doesnt have music controls? that sucks bigtime!
oh stop whining! Samsung is just giving you an extra reason to admire that beautiful screen.

Don't matter to me as I don't use cheap phones. Custom shelled iem. Please don't tell me you folks use Dre BEATS, what a ripoff. I see alot of iPhone users using them and I just laugh. Got ripped off by apple and then by Dre. People are like sheep being led to the slaughter house.

no, samsung uses 3 layer audio, while apple only uses 2, the headphones wont even sound right, youll need to ducttape the apple call button down permanently to have good sounding audio

when you say "samsung uses..." is that in reference to this device in particular, or Samsung in general? Have you tested the SGSII headphone jack yourself? Thanks for the info btw.
Oh you guys are silly!
I haven't tried headphones with music controls yet (gonna have to fish around for my old HTC's) but try double clicked and triple clicking the button on the one's Sammy give you. For me it skips tracks (at least in Spotify) and has done on all versions of Gingerbread I've tried.
I'm using the Griffin iTalk so I can answer calls and skip tracks with a decent set of 'phones.
htc desire's headphone works perfectly.
i use the bose MIE2 mobile phone headset with inline mic and single button, costs 140 bucks and the quality is superb on these things. its designed for generic mobile phones, and works just fine on the nexus one and most other phones that support the standard.
are we saying teh galaxys s2 will not support this? it just uses a single button, double tap to FF, triple tap to RW, etc. and then single tap to answer a call, pause music, etc. best headset ever to get for your phone. i'd imagine this would have to work with samsung, how could they leave this out when all other phones support this?
Tested with Ultimate Ears 5vi which are iPhone compatible.
With default music player only play/pause (single press) and next track (double press) works, this was tge same as the Nexus S.
PowerAmp has a setting to enable triple press which skips to previous track. This app is worth the cost as it has settings to customise the player anyway you could want. Best feature is auto resume on A2DP connect, when getting in the car no need to remove phone from pocket or bag or touch cars music controls, plays from where it left off

How very odd, I got my old headphones that I used with my SGS 1 and on my SGS2 I now need to hold down the call answer button to get good audio !
As using third-party headphones is random with Android mobiles, I decided to create this thread and ask what others use. Please post the type you use with the Huawei U8800 and maybe a short note saying what buttons work and if the mic also works, thank you

I only use the U8800 heaphones/mic and I must not change because the pinout is different (begining by the point):
Sound.L/Sound.R/Mic/Ground.
The others like Samsung, Lg, etc. the pinout is:
Sound.L/Sound.R/Ground/Mic.
If we chage it the sound is bad because it return by Mic, not by ground.
I use cheap 1.3$ costed ones.
Jawbone ERA Bluetooth - Works Great. Jawbone app doesn't work on the X5 yet though.
Nokia BH 505 Bluetooth - Does not work well. Connection drops out when listening to music.
Jabra Sport Corded Stereo Headphones - I have just ordered from Ebay to use in gym.
Skullcandy INK'd Earbuds.
And the sound is very good.

Thanks!!
Jabra bt3030 here with a nice pair of sony earplugs replace jabra ones.Works fine with u8800 as with any phone i used them, very rich sound with music and clear sound with calls.
I have only one thing with them...when a call is ringing, bt3030 has its own ringtone to headphones and not the one that phone has.The think is ,i use it riding my motocycle and if a call comes i wanna listen from my call announcer whos calling me.
Just got myself some Sennheiser IE7's and god.. the difference between my mp3 player and phone is astounding.
The sound in u8800 is just muddy with uneven bass and ****ty highs
Sennheiser PX-100II is excellent for me, but Ideos mic is turn off
Got the Sony MW600 recently on the back of some of the reports here and the Sound quality is much better than I thought it would be all things considered.
Happy with my MW600 but it doesn't work well with the Poweramp app...works much better with the stock music app.

What probs do you get? Play/Pause/Next/previous works ok as well as in call music pause and resume etc. Make sure you are on a gingerbread rom, as the bluetooth stack used in froyo roms is not really good compatibility wise.
If poweramp gives you problems on the BT Buttons, check its settings and disable bt support in other music apps. (i had experienced that problem while using poweramp and XiiaLive, with the latter taking over the bt buttons.)
I'm on the froyo stock....
The problem I was having was that on the BT set when I clicked next track, sure it changed to different track but on a different album. when I inspect the phone on pweramp it's still displaying on the previsous track. The PowerAmp will then freeze after a few seconds then FC.
I will try again using the BT settings for each music app I have as the Stock music app works perfectly...
I have found a possible fix for using third-party headphones, the Sony Ericsson Xperia 2011 range of phones have the same connector and are compatible with our Huawei U8800, so when buying just make sure it works on something like Ark, Play, Neo, Pro and others and it should be okay

Hi all,
Got my nexus 4 last week - very impressed with it (then again (as my username says) i came from Sony X10/Arc land so a big improvement was easy!)
Having problems using handsfree on the phone - i'm using my existing handsfree cabled (3 bands on connector).
If i plug in the headset before making a call and dial someone, the call instantly ends and goes to google now
If i make the call and then plug in the headset, the quality is genuinely terrible.
Anyone else have any experience with this? Call quality without handsfree is genuinely perfect...
Ta in advance.
I am also unable to use my sony headset with n4 and was searching for problem.
whenever I connect it opens googles now and sound quality is clear only if I keep the button pressed on my headset. Can you check if the same case?
I am finding someone with same situation. I want to know if this is problem with sony n4 match up?
Hi Ksavai,
Thanks for the response. I don't have the headset with me now but will check later...
I also have a sony headset (MH-500) so maybe should test with another. Would like to know that no one else has this problem though before i spend money on another brand/model!

Checked my phone tonight.
With the sony mh-500 headset, i now get volume through the earphones ok but the audio level is very low; when i press the handsfree button the audio level increases dramatically.
Really is a crazy problem!

Is there a list of tested handsfree headsets?
After lots of searching I found out headset prior to 2011 won't work as it was different standard now it is updated standard. (I forgot the name but if you are interested I can look that up for you)
Newer galaxy s2 onwards or 2012 and later will work.
Newer one comes with grey or white circles on on pin while older ones have black.

I was having the same issue and I found this: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=41860 I've used three different headsets: Samsung, Skullcandy, iPod headphones (newer model and the low mic problem persists throughout all of them).
It seems like the sound on the Note 4 has some dynamic EQ or compression going on, always trying to balance out the volume of the sound. Whenever I'm listening to a track that lacks bass for the first few measures - the song will be really loud, and then when the bass and drums come in, the song will abruptly go to half, and pretty much poorly adjust itself to the music.
It sounds awful. Is there any way to turn this effect off?

I'm using Subsonic, which doesn't really have any settings that effect the sound. I tried Google Play Music and seeing if Adapt sound was on, and it wasn't, so I'm not sure what's going on. I'm going to see if maybe my cables are going faulty or something. I might post a sample that demonstrates clearly what I'm hearing so others could pitch in. I'm an audiophile so I'm *really* picky about sound - the normal listener likely wouldn't notice what I'm talking about, but someone who's keen on audio knows exactly this effect and knows it's often turned on where it shouldn't be (like in many AVR setups).
I'm still experiencing this issue and can't find a solution. If I use the provided handset, the connection and sound seems perfect. But if I connect my phone to certain speakers using any old AUX cable, the sound volumes fluctuate and one of the channels seems to drop out depending on how the cord fits in.
My Exynos sounds good with Shures and DFX Player

I've tried 3 different aux cables, which work perfect for everything else, and I don't honestly see how another aux cord will fix anything. I'm pretty sure it's not the cord - aux cables aren't typically unreliable anyways. I think it's a poor analog "handshake" between my Note 4 and my A5's. If I plug any other phone into my A5's, or my computer, they sound great. And if I plug my phone into my receiver or the provided handset, it sounds just fine too. It's specifically when I connect my A5's to my Note 4 when it doesn't work fully.
The only new type of aux cord I would consider is one that's similar to the cord on my handset (3-ringed instead of 2). Do they make 3-ringed aux cords? That's the only thing I can imagine helping.
This dude is describing the problem I'm experiencing, but with his Note 3.
After trying the note 4 about 3 weeks...I had Xperia s before but even the time gone Sony the best of sound tech ..I installed today Walkman player ported from the new Z3 the sound get more better...try that app
As much as I hate to say it, the sound quality on note 4 is inferior to iPhone, Experia and HTC.
I have tried several scenarios and have always come to the same conclusion.

I think I have to take my phone back. My problem with doing this is that the problem seems intermittent and I might have trouble convincing the people at Sprint that I need a new phone. I think this because last time I had problems with my G3, despite me being able to reproduce the problem in front of the assistant, he basically brushed me aside as if it was unimportant and as if I should just buy their crappy overpriced headphones because they just so happen to work perfectly with the phone.
I don't get why my smartphone experience has been so poor when it comes to my speaker listening. My old crappy HTC 3D Evo worked perfectly for speaking listening (and that's a out it), but my G3 and Note 4 had been pretty weak.
Even if I did manage to convince the techies at Sprint that there's something wrong with my phone, aren't they just going to give me a refurbished phone that may not necessarily be brand new? The idea of that irks me. I'm also worried they'd charge me a deductible or something - even though I'm having a legit issue with my phone.
