I cracked the screen on my LG G2 and am having a hard time erasing it before I sell it!
I bought an OTG cable but my mouse and USB drives don't appear to show up. I'm guessing a specific mode has to be enabled for OTG cable support?
I tried booting into recovery mode and factory reseting, but after pressing the power button twice I'm just taken to the TWRP splash screen (and my hardware buttons don't allow me to navigate for a wipe).
I also tried remote installing Device Manager from the play store, but my device doesn't have a SIM and isn't connected to wireless!
Is it possible to wipe this thing via USB? Any other tips are much appreciated!

Just return the phone completely to stock, which will remove root, restore factory settings and ready it to be sold.
Go to http://www.lg-firmware-rom.com and enter your IMEI, then download your .kdz file.
Flash your .kdz via download mode using this tutorial.

Hi, right I have damaged my S4 with water to the extent that when I switch it on all of the writing is pink and the touchscreen is unusable. I am trying to hard reset it as I am going to sell it as a damaged handset. The problem I have is i'm trying to reset through the volume up, home and power key method to access the recovery menu. When it goes into recovery, the screen then has a series of white lines running from top to bottom and nothing is readable on the screen. Any suggestions as to how I can reset this so I can remove Facebook, Gmail and other account details?
If you are able to get the recovery menu (stock), steps for factory reset are:
Vol.down x3
Power
Vol.Down x7
Power
after a few second press Power again to reboot.
If the screen is totally unreadable and recovery is not usable you can try via Kies. Connect the phone via USB, open Kies and from Tools menu choose Firmware Upgrade and Initialization.

I never thought about using Kies actually, I'll give that a try tonight after work and see if I can do it through there. I take it the whole pink writing and unusable touchscreen is something that is not likely to sort itself out after further drying out?
Hard to say with this type of accident but if I had to bet I would put my money on "definitely dead".
Try the recovery menu also, if you are able to get the recovery menu means that Volume keys and power are working, you should be able to reset your phone from recovery.
Good luck
OK here is what happened. I am running zulu99 full android os. Worked great. I downloaded an app from the Google play store to change the dpi. After I made the change to the dpi settings the app ask me to OK a reboot. Now my Shield TV Pro is stuck on a bootloop and I cant get it into hardware recovery. Any ideas on how to enter recovery another way? I tried unplugging the shield plugged the power back in . Then I hold down the power button for 3 seconds let the power button go and press it down again for a second. I tried this many times and I just end up back in bootloop. Is there any other way to get into fastboot to flash back to stock ? Or do I now have a paper weight ?
Thank you

HowTo Flash:
==========
Before flashing images from this build to your SHIELD, connect your SHIELD
via USB to the PC where you built this tree.
Next, put your SHIELD into fastboot mode using following method:
SW method:
Boot to android home screen
Connect the device to linux system
Open terminal(on linux)
Type "adb reboot bootloader" in terminal
HW method:
Disconnect power cable
Insert USB OTG cable and make sure to connect other end to a host PC
Connect power cable to SHIELD
Quickly start pressing power button for ~3 seconds
Do not hold the button and connect power supply afterwards
HDMI TV should be always connected to SHIELD
Alternative method:
Perform software shutdown on SHIELD by holding Power button for 10 seconds
Connect USB OTG cable to SHIELD
Start pressing power button for 3 seconds
HDMI TV should be always connected to SHIELD

I suggest you keep trying those methods. There's some issues with the current bootloader, so if you can't get it to work eventually you'll be stuck with having to rma it. If you get it working, I suggest you stop messing with it until after the next OTA, which is supposed to fix the bootloader issues.
Some of the issues are mentioned here, with a response from nvidia: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/893616/bootloader-issues
The HW method worked .
Thanks For the help !
Hi all,
I have a particularly tricky case here. A OnePlus 3T with a broken screen (its black, can't tell if its registering taps) which I need to recovery data (photos) from. Normally I'd just use ADB but of course usb-debugging isn't enabled. I've tried rebooting into recovery... hold the power button and vol-down until the phone vibrates, keep holding for a few seconds. Then wait. Then vol down twice and power again to hopefully select English but the when I try
Code:
adb devices
nothing comes up on the list.
I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas how I can recover data/photos from this device.
One again the facts are:
-OnePlus 3T
-screen is broken, black, doesn't display anything
-usb-debugging is NOT enabled
-i can see the device in fastboot mode (boot w/ vol-up+power)
Thanks!
Maybe try a mouse with OTG. Would be horribly difficult i guess. But can probably work.
Also with any recovery, it would require your pin to enter the recovery (for decrypting the partitions); so that's a no go.
All you can try is to just boot the phone normally and try any input with an external mouse with OTG. Bring it to a point where the phone is powered on and unlocked so that you can copy data off the flash storage in MTP mode.
Ps: why don't you try to normally boot the phone and use fingerprint unlock?
did you trying with this link?

Using this tutorial in this case would make no sense, since the damage is physical and this way you're going to lose all the data currently stored on the phone.

if you have no usb-debugging and cannot see screen you are out of luck. same thing happen to me. the only thing that worked was I had twrp recovery and was able to boot into it. Recovery by default is in mtp so you will be able to see all your folders and transfer pics or backup files. last resort was to send it to oneplus repair which will cost about 100 bucks and you will get your phone back within 7 days remember to tell them to not reset phone because they will if you dont. good luck
You can also recover the data very easy through data recovery softwares. No usb-debugging and cannot see screen you are out of luck. I also have to face same problem the only thing that worked was I had twrp recovery and was able to boot into it.
You can try to flash TWRP in fastboot, then reboot recovery via fastboot command. MTP would work unless a pin is required in TWRP.
I can feel the situation, the phone doesn't work properly.
I installed LineageOS 14.1 but I was having some blue screens so I decided to go back to stock ROM but I had a brainfart and rebooted after wiping everything except microSD, and now I can't boot my phone normaly, nor enter recovery mode or download mode.
What is happening with TWRP recovery mode is that it seems to load properly but then it doesn't give me options or anything it just starts formatting cache or something for like 2 seconds and then just tries to reboot normally, but there's no OS so it just gives me a blue screen(im not at home right now but im panicking, i will upload a video for better understanding in a couple hours).
And with download mode it just stays on the charging screen.
Did I just brick my ****ing phone? Im on the verge of tears, I have been watching videos and reading for the past 2 hours and nothing seems to help

To boot into download mode, you must first turn it off then connect your phone to pc and then long press power up button.
As with the twrp formatting cache or something like that, you must have downloaded a buggy version. For now, if you have a pc nearby try to boot into twrp with adb.

Download mode still isn't working with the computer im trying, are you saying I just have to turn it off, plug it into the pc(charging screen appears), and just hold power button alone until I get to DL mode? Does my computer need a specific driver already installed for this?
And how would I go about giving my phone commands with adb if I can't boot it into anything? Should my pc recognize the device and be able to use adb when it's in the blue "Subsystem Crash" screen, or maybe when in the first 2 screens before booting into recovery where you have to press "Yes" twice, or when? Maybe when it's charging?
Thanks a lot for the help

Yes, you need to turn off your phone and plug the usb cable in your phone while holding volume up button until it goes into download mode( you must connect it to a pc or laptop). Also, you don't need specific drivers for that.
To boot into twrp with adb, you must first boot into os, or boot into twrp with hardware keys, assuming you can't do any of these then your only option is flashing a new kdz via download mode.
Edit: You need adb drivers installed on your pc if you're going to use adb commands on your pc.

OK I have added the fix in guide
Phone was dropped, black screen nothing to see. The phone however works. I can boot into recovery and even start adb sideload. When doing so, it shows up on my PC with adb devices. However, that is as far as I can go.
The device has a sim and pin lock, obviously I know both code. Is there any chance to recover data (contacts and images) from the phone. Grateful for any hint or a solid idea. There are plenty of posts on the web telling I should connect via adb and unlock the phone but when connecting in recovery mode it does not show up on adb devices or fastboot as the developer-mode was never enabled.
I did also try commercial software (i.e. dr.phone) but the phone doesn't show up their either.
I've the same problem. Did you were able to recover the data?
No, I ended up having the phone repaired in one of the repair shops. I was able to recover all data. Now I use the phone as a backup and for programming and experiments....

This site shows the option to connect A40, if still Android 9.0, via usb hub to external screen and mouse and unlock. For Android >10 this doesn't work anymore
I have the same issue and neither usb-debugging on nor fastboot enabled. A40 doesn't show up in adb. So I also read when putting A40 via Power and Volume up into download/recovery mode, at least a backup of data should work.
My current idea is I have to replace display in repair shop or unlock via usb-hub + mouse.
Something I don't get right. How do you power off the A40 without screen to get safely the SIM card out? Power and volume down 7 sec, then release power off, then volume down? When I do this the A40 reboots with vibration. Power and volume up apparently reboots to recovery mode. Long pressing Power also doesn't turn off A40. Also in the A40 manual nothing is written on this
